Nottingham Forest demand £10m transfer fee from Sheffield United for unwanted star who was exiled after paperwork mishap

SHEFFIELD UNITED must cough up a hefty £10million to buy Lewis O’Brien after Nottingham Forest snubbed a loan.Forest will not help out their newly-promoted Premier League rivals with a temporary deal for the 24-year-old midfielder.

Forest poached O’Brien from Huddersfield after beating the Terriers in the 2022 play-off final.
But he failed to nail down a regular spot as Forest signed an incredible 30-plus players for their Prem return.
O’Brien was left exiled for the second half of the season after a paperwork issue meant a loan to Blackburn fell through on January deadline day.
He had already been left out of Forest’s Prem squad.

O’Brien ultimately moved across the pond for loan spell with Wayne Rooney’s DC United in the MLS.
But he is back now and could go out for the season if a Championship club comes in.
Blades are still waiting on an answer from Manchester City about James McAtee returning on loan.

Harry Redknapp: Premier League title will stay in Manchester… but it will be Ten Hag’s United celebrating this year

PEP GUARDIOLA always loves a challenge and not many have got the better of him over the years. But, you know what? A fourth Premier League title on the trot with Manchester City this season might just be his biggest of all.
Erik ten Hag won the Carabao Cup last season and could get a bigger trophy this yearCredit: Reuters
Rasmus Hojlund might not have been United’s first choice but he could have a huge impactCredit: Getty
That may seem a strange thing to say for a side that won the Treble and obviously City will be the ones to beat again.
But when you’ve got everything in life, sometimes it’s a case of, ‘What more can we do?’
And Pep has a hell of a job on his hands to keep them as hungry and bang at it again. Let’s be honest, as brilliant as City were last time, the title was in Arsenal’s hands and they let it slip.
Mikel Arteta has signed very well in the summer — as have others, which I’ll come to in a minute — while Pep has lost one or two.
    Read More Football News
Ilkay Gundogan’s gone to Barcelona, Riyad Mahrez is in Saudi and there are still doubts about Kyle Walker, who is a fantastic right-back.
City were on the ropes last season and came out fighting when it mattered.
Well there’s no doubt they are in a genuine fight again… and I can see this one going the distance.
Arsenal will no doubt still be kicking themselves at not seeing it through from such a strong position. The bookies actually made them favourites at one stage.

So they’ll be determined to go one step better and Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and especially Declan Rice are fantastic buys who will make them even stronger.
But while it wouldn’t be the greatest surprise to see Arsenal as champions, I’m actually tipping the Premier League to stay in Manchester. Just not with the team everyone thinks.
Erik ten Hag did a great job in his first season at United and he’s another who has had a decent summer in the market.
I’ve always liked Mason Mount and he is a great addition to the midfield while Andre Onana is one of the best keepers in the world.
Rasmus Hojlund might not have been their first choice for a new striker at the start of the summer but he looks a great prospect.
I think United are fantastic value and in my book they will be a real threat to everyone this season.Harry Redknapp
As good a season Marcus Rashford had last time, United have been after a goalscoring centre-forward for ages. This lad could be the answer.
I must admit, I’d fancy them even more if they’d have gone out and spent £100million on Harry Kane.
That would have been very hard for Daniel Levy to turn down.
But, even so, I think United are fantastic value and in my book they will be a real threat to everyone this season.
Eddie Howe has been very sensible in how he’s building something special at Newcastle and has made a couple of very shrewd signings in Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes.

They will be stronger and could be even closer this season… which means that Chelsea and Liverpool have a real fight on their hands just to make the top four once again.
To be honest, I think that’s the best Mauricio Pochettino can hope for because there is so much work to be done.
He’s lost quite a few, they still want a genuine goalscorer and does anyone really know what their best side is yet?
Liverpool did a great bit of business in getting Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai comes with a big reputation from Leipzig.
But the Reds have lost a couple of key players from the dressing room in Jordan Henderson and James Milner.
Let’s be honest, as brilliant as City were last time, the title was in Arsenal’s hands and they let it slip.Harry Redknapp
Both of them were a real driving force behind the scenes and you can’t put a price on that, whatever their age. Those are huge boots to fill, however good the replacements may be.
It goes without saying that Kane is key to everything for Tottenham, and if he stays, I fancy them to win a cup. The ball is in Harry’s court and I just don’t think he’ll go.
Yes, he could win the German title at Bayern Munich, but if he doesn’t want to leave, it wouldn’t matter if they offered £300m!
There will be a queue a mile long in 12 months and I can see him negotiating a huge signing-on fee and then going on to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record.
You never know, he could end up with a title medal as well.
But as far as this season goes, it’s United to edge it for me, with City and Arsenal filling the places.
    BIG JOB FOR ROB
ROB EDWARDS pulled off a minor miracle in getting Luton to the Premier League — keeping them there would be even greater.
When Nathan Jones left halfway through last season, I did think it could fall apart. But Rob came in, they kept beating the odds and look where they ended up.
I love seeing British bosses do well, so what Rob did was fantastic — the same goes for Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United.
But I think the pair of them have a huge job to survive. And selling their best player — as United did with Iliman Ndiaye last week — makes it no easier.
I think Burnley, who went up as champions, will survive so I’ll go for Wolves — just ahead of Everton — as the others to go down.
Losing Ruben Neves is huge for Wolves, Joao Moutinho’s gone as well and they have a heck of a fight on their hands.
Sadly for Molineux fans, I can’t see them winning it, either.
    VIC GETS MY VOTE
I’LL be having my usual each way yankee on all four divisions but if only one comes up, I really hope it’s Notts County… for Vicky McClure’s grandad, Ralph.
I got to know Vicky well when we did Soccer Aid together — she’s a lovely girl — and we’ve stayed in touch since then.
She did a programme called Vicky McClure: My Grandad’s War which told the story of Ralph, a Royal Navy signaller on D-Day.
If you haven’t seen it yet, get it on catch-up. I guarantee there won’t be a dry eye in the house at the end.
Ralph is a huge County fan and she texted me this week to say how much he’s looking forward to this season.

I’d love to see them win League Two for him.
So, here’s my tips for all four divisions: Manchester United for the Prem title, Ipswich in the Championship, Derby to win League One and Notts County for League Two. More

Olise’s form for Palace has attracted interest from Chelsea and Treble winners Manchester City.
And according to RMC Sport, the star has now agreed personal terms with Chelsea.
The Blues have approached Crystal Palace with a £26m offer.
But Chelsea’s initial bid will most likely be rejected given the player’s £35m release-clause.

Last season, he became the first Palace player ever to record more than 10 Premier League assists in a single term as he led the south London club to safety.
The midfielder – who won the club’s Player of the Year – is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury picked up during this summer’s European U21 Championships.
But Mauricio Pochettino is keen to sign the England-born Frenchman after selling Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech this summer.
He would become Chelsea’s seventh summer signing following Robert Sanchez, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, Lesley Ugochukwu and Angelo Gabriel.

MANCHESTER CITY fans fear “we’ve signed the Croatian Michael Owen” after new defender Josko Gvardiol’s interview went viral. The Treble winners confirmed the signing of Gvardiol for £78million from RB Leipzig on Saturday morning.

But the pressure of signing for arguably the best team in the world appears to have got to the young Croatian.
The defender was doing a get-to-know type feature for City’s social media content.
But in a rather cringe moment, Gvardiol was asked: “What’s your all time favourite movie?”
To which he awkwardly replied: “I don’t have it”.

The bemused interviewer asked: “None at all?” before following it up with: “What about a TV series?”
Gvardiol replied: “No, I don’t watch it.”
City fans have not held back in their response to the hilarious clip.
One supporter stated: “Crying, we’ve signed the Croatian Michael Owen”.

A second added: “These answers man. What the f*** does he do in his spare time?”.
One sarcastic fan jested: “Wait until you hear these fascinating revelations”.
Another wrote: “No thoughts, just football. Guardiola’s perfect player”.
Another added: “Was he created by AI?”.
Of course, the fan who made comparisons with Michael Owen was referring to the hilarious admission from the ex-Liverpool striker that he’d only ever watched seven movies during his lifetime.
Owen, now a BT pundit, has also been mercilessly mocked on social media for being ‘boring’ and ‘stating the obvious’.
Former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Joe Allon described Owen as having “the personality of a flip-flop”.
Nonetheless, City fans are happy with their new defensive recruit.

Man Utd complete impressive turnaround to beat Lens in penultimate pre-season friendly after Andre Onana concedes howler

MANCHESTER UNITED turned on the style to hit back against RC Lens and claim victory at Old Trafford. It was all smiles after a comical first half from the Red Devils saw them go into the break 1-0 down.
Erik ten Hag saw his side come from behind to beat Lens
Andre Onana was lobbed during the first half
But second-half goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro sealed the win.
What a day it had been for the new signings up to that point though.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund was introduced to the new crowd just as it was revealed he will miss the first two games of the season with an injury.
Mason Mount continued his ropey pre-season since a £60million switch from Chelsea by missing a sitter.

Meanwhile Andre Onana proved that being a sweeper-keeper can leave you vulnerable as he was lobbed from 45 yards.
But a fired up United dominated last season’s La Ligue runners-up after the break.

They were level just three minutes from the restart when Antony released Rashford with a fine ball from the right and last season’s top scorer found the back of the net with the aid of a deflection.
Ten Hag’s men were ahead just five minutes later when a great touch by Rashford sent Alejandro Garnacho flying down the wing.

The Argentinian international fired a crossfield ball for Antony whose first touch was poor but whose second beat Brice Samba who was slow off his line.
Casemiro was credited with number three on 58 minutes but didn’t know much about it.
Luke Shaw delivered the ball from the left, Rashford’s flick header was going wide until it his Casemiro on the forehead and beat the ‘keeper.
    But what of the first-half?
It was the 15th minute when Mount’s chance presented itself.
A superb ball with the outside of his boot by Bruno Fernandes sent Garnacho away.
Mason Mount endured a frustrating afternoon
His first touch was poor but he managed to hook it back across goal and slightly behind Mount who swung and completely missed with the goal at his mercy.
Then on 23 minutes Onana found himself in the back of his own net.
He was out on the edge of his area when a loose pass by Diogo Dalot was seized upon by Florian Sotoca.
Spotting Onana well off his line he hit a brilliant chip that United’s new £47million goalkeeper tried to claw away as he back-peddled. He could not reach it and ended up in a heap in the netting with the ball beside him.
At that point you were wondering if a fourth successive pre-season defeat was on the cards after going down to Real Madrid, Wrexham and Borussia Dortmund in the US.
