Premier League legend Ledley King reveals secret behind never being sent off in 354 games and highlights amazing stat

TOTTENHAM legend Ledley King has revealed staying on his feet was key to never being sent off.The former centre-back, 42, racked up 354 appearances across a 13-year career despite being plagued with knee problems.

He featured more than 300 times for Spurs and earned 21 England caps between 2002 and 2010.
Yet despite playing at the top level for more than a decade, King was never red carded.
And it was even a rarity for the defender to be booked by a referee – with just eight yellow cards to his name.
King has now spoken about why he believes his disciplinary record was so clean – and even insists it should have been better.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “I always tried to stay on my feet as much as possible.
“If someone went past me, I’d try to use my speed to rescue the situation.
“The funny thing is, you say I’ve got eight [yellow cards]; in my head, I still think it should be only three or four.
“Actually, I remember one stat: in one season, I hadn’t made a foul in seven or eight games.

“They highlighted it, and I got a yellow card for the first foul that I made – which wasn’t even a yellow card.”
King’s only major trophy came in 2008 when he lifted the Carling Cup as Tottenham captain.
He went to two major tournaments with England – Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup.
Towards the end of his career, he was known for playing games despite not training all week.
This was in order to manage the inflammation in his knee.
King would often work alone in the swimming pool and gym, but did very little on the training pitch.
He would then start Spurs games on a weekend and frequently be one of their best players. More

It is the England international’s FIFTH hamstring problem in two years.
And it was confirmed on Thursday that he faces months on the sideline as he recovers from his latest setback.
It comes after a frustrating 2022/23 campaign – in which James started just 14 Premier League games.
An incredible stat reveals that 36 per cent of his career league starts came in his one-year loan spell with Wigan in the Championship.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
The right-back only failed to make Wigan’s starting XI in two of their 46 matches during the 2018/19 campaign.
But that makes up 44 of just 122 league starts across his entire career.
James has only managed 78 starts for Chelsea in more than four seasons.
And those on social media could not believe his lack of game time since that spell at Wigan.

A third replied: “It’s a shame that whilst he’s a good player, we’ll probably never get to see exactly how good he could be due to all these injuries.”
A fourth responded: “This is some stat. Obviously sad reflection on his injury record since.”
And a fifth said: “It’s a sad stat. What a player though.”

Haaland, now 22, scored a record staggering 38 league goals in his debut season in English football.
And he’s already got this campaign off to a flyer – netting a double against Burnley in the season’s opener.
He signed a five-year contract until 2027, after arriving for £51million in June, and City are already preparing an extension offer.
The Norway striker has always idolised the once-capped Spaniard – he used to tag himself as Michu in some of his footy Instagram photos as a teenager.

And ex-Prem forward Michu told Cadena SER about meeting the young Haaland in Germany before his big move.
Michu said: “I gave him a Burgos shirt and he gave me a Borussia [Dortmund] shirt.
“I’m glad he’s having that impact in England, he’s going to be a star at European level with [Kylian] Mbappe. They’re going to reign like [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo] did.

City sources have confirmed their interest although it is not yet clear if he would go straight into Pep Guardiola’s squad if they win the race.
Other young players have arrived at the Etihad and been shipped out to join one of the other clubs in the City Football Group stable on loan.
City are likely to be without a senior specialist left-back this season but have options in Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol.
Barco is believed to be keen on finishing the club season with Boca before moving later this year.

Inside Brighton’s money-making scouting system that’s made £369m… with three stars set for massive transfer next

FIRST they came for Ben White and they sold him for £50million.Then they came for Marc Cucurella and they sold him for £60m.

Chelsea also splashed £60m on Marc CucurellaCredit: AFP
Then they came for their manager and his entire coaching staff, and you know what happened next.
And now they have come for Moises Caicedo and they’ve flogged him for a British transfer record.
If anyone epitomises the concept of Keep Calm and Carry On, it’s Brighton owner Tony Bloom and his chief executive Paul Barber.
Because the remarkable work they are doing in good old Sussex by the sea is an object lesson in how not to make a drama out of a crisis.

Any other club in football would be tearing their hair out at the loss of nine senior players, the manager, technical director and head of recruitment in the space of just two years.
Yet this flock of Seagulls have not only survived the mass exodus, they have actually thrived.
They should have collapsed when Graham Potter packed his bags for the Chelsea circus last September but simply identified an even better coach and have gone from strength to strength under Roberto De Zerbi.
The same thing happened when they sold White, Cucurella, Dan Burn, Neal Maupay, Yves Bissouma and Leandro Trossard.

Now they have cashed in on Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and Robert Sanchez to take their player sales income over the past couple of years to an extraordinary £368.7M.
And yet they still thrashed newly-promoted Luton 4-1 on the opening day as they look forward to their first ever season in Europe.
The key to everything they do at the Amex is buy low, sell high.
Midfielder Caicedo, 21, was an absolute unknown who cost them £3.6m when they signed him from Independiente del Valle. Now they’ve sold him in a deal that could net them £115m.
Mac Allister arrived unheralded from Argentinos Juniors for £7m and Cucurella cost them £15.4m from Getafe.
Yet these deals flew so far under the radar at the time that even Albion fans didn’t realise what was going on right under their noses.
And that’s not the end of the Amex production line as Kaoru Mitoma, Julio Enciso and Evan Ferguson attract envious glances from Premier League rivals who don’t have the patience to develop their own stars.

But everyone knows they are not going to come cheap because Bloom and Barber have forged a well-deserved reputation as the toughest negotiators in the business.
They never haggle and they never blink first.
They simply set a price and stick with it. And it’s proving to be a spectacularly successful tactic.
Southampton learned to their cost last season that it’s all very well to sell your best players but you will eventually come unstuck if you don’t bring in decent replacements.
Brighton are not going to make the same mistake because they are always planning ahead and preparing for any eventuality.
They already know that De Zerbi is top of every other team’s wanted list in the event of them sacking their manager.

The impressive Italian tactician is under lock and key for the next three years and will not be going anywhere on the cheap.
But no one is irreplaceable at Brighton because there is always another diamond just waiting to be unearthed. More

Kevin De Bruyne flies to Belgium for surgery on injured hamstring which would rule Man City star out for months

Scans showed that an operation was the best option – even though it could see him ruled out until the New Year.
Pep Guardiola said a final decision would be taken in the next few days but admitted all the experts they had spoken to had the same opinion.
Now KDB is back in his homeland and is expected to go under the knife soon – with all parties agreed there is no point putting it off any further.
That means he is likely to be out for at least three months and possibly longer – leaving Pep on the hunt for a replacement.

Prior to the Super Cup triumph over Sevilla, Guardiola said: “It’s serious, the injury.
“We have to decide if it’s surgery or not surgery, but it will be a few months out.”
He then added, on City’s specialist doctor: “Ramon (Cugat) saw the images.
“He didn’t personally (do anything) and they have two or three doctors have the same opinion, more or less, what they have to do.”

But in 2013, a 24-year-old Aubameyang was trying his best to leave Ligue 1 and there was no shortage of admirers.
Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Paris St Germain, and – most importantly – Newcastle were all interested.
His 19 league goals for Saint-Etienne left him second in the goalscoring charts, only behind PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Joe Kinnear had just been installed as Newcastle’s director of football and Aubameyang became one of his top targets.

The Magpies made a bid of £15million, with the hope of securing a double deal with Kurt Zouma for £26m.
It was rejected, prompting Aubameyang to make a public statement about his desire to move to the Premier League.
He said: “My dream has always been to play in one of the top two leagues in the world.
“Newcastle is a good club and St James’s Park is a monumental stadium where there is passionate fans.”

However, he ended up signing for Dortmund – then managed by Jurgen Klopp – who reached the Champions League final the previous season.
Explaining his decision in 2016, he said: “We opted for Dortmund, finalists in the Champions League, because my father studied Klopp’s game”.
During his time at Dortmund, Aubameyang became one of the hottest strikers in Europe.
While Newcastle embarked on a three year decline which would eventually witness them relegated from the Premier League in 2016.
Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign the forward from Dortmund in a £56million deal in 2018.
He won the FA Cup with the Gunners, and scored 64 goals in 114 leagues games before the 2021/22 season – when everything stumbled.
Aubameyang’s behaviour as captain and role model to the club’s younger players began to vex manager Mikel Arteta – and a very public fallout led to the striker’s sudden exit.
Barcelona snapped him up in January 2022 and Aubameyang made a solid start, scoring 11 goals in 17 La Liga matches.
Chelsea then decided to sign the 34-year-old in the summer of 2023.

It turned out to be a bad decision as he returned one Premier League goal and barely featured during a nightmare campaign for the club and the player.
