Chelsea fans say ‘I’ve never heard of this’ as Hakim Ziyech completes Galatasaray transfer on baffling terms

CHELSEA fans were left stunned by Hakim Ziyech’s baffling move to Galatasaray.Ziyech struggled to stand out at Stamford Bridge after joining from Ajax in 2020 as he only mustered 14 goals and 13 assists in 107 appearances.

However, the winger has moved on as he joined the Turkish champions on loan.
But the terms of that deal have left the Blues’ faithful absolutely bewildered.
Fans were stunned to read reports from the Evening Standard that the Morocco international would leave on a free loan deal with a free buy option.
Though later further reports suggested that the buy clause is mandatory and Galatasaray could pay some performance-based fees.

And most of the 30-year-old’s wages are off the West Londoners’ books.
But Chelsea fans were still left absolutely confused by that arrangement for a player the club signed for £37million three years ago.
One fan tweeted: “I have never heard of a free loan with option of a free purchase ever. Ziyech should be embarrassed.”
Another commented: “He’s a better player than that, some poor management there.”

Man City 1 Newcastle 0: Champions edge cagey clash as Nick Pope blunder allows Julian Alvarez to score the winner

PEP GUARDIOLA asked the fans for a helping hand – and got an unlikely one from Nick Pope instead.Pope has been one of the real stars of the show in the Saudi-backed rebuild, and last season no-one conceded fewer goals than the Toon keeper.

The Argentine celebrates with Phil FodenCredit: Getty
But in this clash he was anything but a hero, when he failed to get off the ground and flapped a hand at the Julian Alvarez drive which sealed the champions’ win.
Manager Guardiola had feared the worst for his weary warriors, on the back of their exhausting midweek Super Cup exploits in the searing Athens heat.
Hence his pleas for the Etihad supporters to drive his troops over the line. He should send a special thank you to Pope as well, because for an international keeper it was poor.
Thank Heavens, then, for the driving force that is Phil Foden, and the eye-for-a-goal of Alvarez.
Although had the Toon made the most of their late possession, they would have left here with at least a point.
How City missed their crocked inspiration Kevin De Bruyne. It will be a long five months without the Belgian, believe me.
At least they had enough left in the energy tank to make sure their first home game ended in another celebration. They are becoming something of the norm at the Etihad nowadays.
And when City began like a side intent on staging their own version of keep-ball, you wouldn’t have staked much on it being anything other than party central yet again.
PADDY POWER WELCOME OFFER – Get £20 back as cash if your first bet loses
True, there wasn’t the cutting edge of some displays. As we saw when Alvarez trod on the ball to KO one thrust, and Haaland miscontrolled to wreck another.
You always felt, though, that it was only a matter of time before the champions picked the lock. That’s what they always do, after all.
And sure enough, little over half an hour in, bosh, there it was. City one up, Newcastle heads down and a case of “here we go again.”
How ironic, too, that for all their ability to slice through the most stonewall and solid of backlines, the Toon all but ushered this one into their own net.
The outstanding Foden fed Alvarez in the box, left in far too much space than a World Cup winning striker should be allowed.
He took a touch and arrowed an angled drive to Pope’s right…and the keeper’s efforts to save can only be called disappointing at best.
It was a boot in the backside that would have seen plenty of black and white sides of old crumble. The 2023 oil-fuelled version, though, is different.
These days there is a belief and, perhaps even more importantly, a backbone about Newcastle.
A confidence that even when things aren’t going to plan, even when they aren’t producing the flowing, fluent football manager Howe demands, they will find a way.
They have a spirit, a sense of the streetwise, a savvy-ness…and on occasions a spite. Just ask Ruben Dias.
Twice he was on the receiving end of late and, in the one instance at least, ludicrous snaps from Anthony Gordon.
To be honest Newcastle’s Scouse winger was lucky only to see yellow for the first, leaving a late foot in on the City centre back.
When he produced another only slightly less naughty ten minutes after the break – a challenge that referee Rob Jones frankly bottled out of punishing – Howe gave him the hook.
Not that sub Harvey Barnes failed to fill his boots, mind. Within two minutes he was in the book as well for hauling back Kyle Walker.
Yet they were still only a goal down. They were still in touching distance. They could still head home with something.
Certainly with City – and, amazingly, Erling Haaland in particular – for once not finding a laser-guided route to goal.
Twice Haaland had a clear sight, and twice he failed to make proper contact as he dragged left footed strikes wide.
Then a magnificent last-ditch sliding challenge from Fabian Schar denied him, just as the Striking Viking saw the whites of the Newcastle goal.
When Haaland did finally get a decent strike in, with his right foot, Pope came up with a stonewall block with his and another chance went begging.
And as each opening came and went, so the tension grew amongst home fans and hope rose with the visiting ones.
It should really have come to something when Rodri, of all people, gave the ball away and the Toon had an advantage in numbers as they broke.
Yet Barnes chose to shoot with others screaming for a pass, Ederson dropped to his left to save, and the opportunity passed.
It was to be the last genuine sight of the City goal Newcastle managed, for all nerves were frayed almost to breaking point by the final whistle.
For the Toon it was definitely a chance missed. For City another glimpse of why they are champions.
Far from at their best, but still too good for a side with dreams of nicking their crown. No chance…

Man Utd boost with Dean Henderson set for bidding war as Premier League rival enter transfer race

CRYSTAL PALACE are making a shock move for Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson.Eagles have been told that the Old Trafford No 2 is available on a loan-to-buy basis and he is high on their list as Vicente Guaita looks set to leave Selhurst Park.

Palace would take Henderson if the deal is right — and they have a chance as Nottingham Forest back away from targeting the stopper who had last season’s loan at the City Ground cut short by injury.
United wanted cash or a guarantee that Henderson, 26, would move to Forest permanently if he played enough games this season. But that became a hard deal to broker.
Palace will also find it tough to sign Henderson but are trying to find a solution and have two loan spaces free.
Roy Hodgson’s men are also looking at Southampton’s Alex McCarthy and have asked about Daniel Iversen at Leicester.

Henderson and current Palace No 1 Sam Johnstone are close pals and would be battling for the first-team jersey.
Dane Iversen has been the subject of a Palace inquiry — along with Foxes striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
SunSport revealed earlier this month that Man Utd expected a transfer to Nottingham Forest to go through.
However, both the Red Devils and Steve Cooper’s men were concerned that undergoing a premature medical could see the goalkeeper aggravate his injury.

During a frantic first half, Fernandes produced a sumptuous rabona cross.
Marcus Rashford missed the subsequent header, but that didn’t stop Lineker gushing over the piece of skill.
He tweeted: “That rabona from Bruno was so good it gave me a boner….which is quite something at my age.”
KSI was among the first to react, replying: “You gotta be hacked.”

Fernandes’ evening peaked with his rabona.
He subsequently missed a sitter, heading high over the bar from close range while unmarked.
The United skipper was also booked for dissent during an eventful opening 45 minutes.
He was made to regret his miss, with Spurs producing a sensational second half display to win the match 2-0 courtesy of Pape Matar Sarr’s first goal in English football and Lisandro Martinez’s OG.
After the match, Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane tore into his old side.
He said: “Man United are the new Spurs. Desperate. Absolutely desperate.
“The biggest insult I always think about is teams who can’t do it away from home, players who aren’t up for it away from home.
“They’re a good team, they fancy it when their home fans are in front of them, they’ve got that support and energy. United go away today.
“Second half, weak, no leadership, gave bad goals away. Spurs were lovely. All credit to them. It’s easy to play against Man United also.”

Keane, 52, said Spurs were “lovely” – but only after slamming the Red Devils.
Appearing on Sky Sports after the match, the Irishman fumed: “Man United are the new Spurs. Desperate. Absolutely desperate.
“The biggest insult I always think about is teams who can’t do it away from home, players who aren’t up for it away from home.

Keane wasn’t finished there, also laying into Red Devils forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
He continued: “I said before the game they were poor against Wolves but they got the result and will be better today. They weren’t.
“They were fine in the first half an hour but the game is over 90 minutes. You’re not going to dominate that long but you’ve got to show some belief, desire, fight.

“They’re bringing on Martial – you might as well bring on Frank Stapleton and Norman Whiteside. Martial is not going to get you out of trouble.
“Rashford played through the middle again. Usual stuff. He’s like a child up there. He’s obviously not happy playing there. His body language and his first few touches suggest he doesn’t want to play through the middle.
“But you have to. You’ve got to do a job for the team. You’re looking at the captain, the senior players, established international players – easy to play against. That’s the biggest insult I can give to these Man United players.”
He later went on to add that Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes looked like “schoolboys”.
Gary Neville was also scathing of United in commentary.
He said: “Manchester United were out-played, out-fought, missing in midfield, not good enough up front and at the back they gave away goals.
“Well done to Spurs. Manchester United have a lot of work to do.”
On Tottenham’s new dawn, the 48-year-old added: “There will be some thrills here this season under Postecoglou.”

Tottenham 2 Man Utd 0: Sarr and shocking Lisandro own goal hand brilliant Spurs deserved win over lacklustre Red Devils

THE last time Pape Matar Sarr started a game for Spurs he was hauled off after 23 minutes of the horrific 6-1 defeat at Newcastle. He had been so far off the pace on that occasion that his team were already five down when stand-in boss Cristian Stellini decided to put him out of his misery.

So it was no surprise that the 20-year-old Senegalese international was so keen to show the fans what he is truly capable of.
And when he settled this barnstorming match with the first goal of his Tottenham career he was more than entitled to believe that he had achieved that aim.
The standing ovation he received when he was replaced 15 minutes from the end would have been music to the ears of the rookie midfielder who hasn’t exactly set the Premier League alight since his £14.6million arrival from Metz two years ago.
But handed his chance to shine by new boss Ange Postecoglou, he brought an energy to the Tottenham engine room which flagging United simply could not match.

And alongside a revitalised Yves Bissouma in the middle of the park, it’s just possible that Spurs have stumbled upon a combination to steady the ship following Harry Kane’s £104million departure.
Watching their former idol scoring on his Bayern Munich debut on Friday had not exactly lifted the mood of apprehension swirling around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of this match.
But the way Postecoglou’s men scrapped for every ball suggests that it’s not all going to be doom and gloom this season.
United, though, clearly have major issues to address and Lisandro Martinez’s late own-goal only added to their problems.

Erik ten Hag will wonder just how his team finished on the losing side after carving out numerous chances to build on Monday’s fortuitous win against Wolves.
But Marcus Rashford and Antony squandered a hatful of chances, Mason Mount was completely anonymous and captain Bruno Fernandes veered from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Now they will be counting down the days until £72million Rasmus Hojlund is finally fit enough to make his United debut after arriving from Atalanta carrying an injury.
Because right now they look pretty toothless up front and in urgent need of some inspiration.
Sarr’s moment to remember arrived in the 49th minute when Dejan Kulusevski’s cut-back deflected off the luckless Martinez and dropped right into his path.
It was too good an opportunity to turn down and the youngster didn’t disappoint as he buried his powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Mind you, plenty of easier openings had gone begging during a breathless blood and guts encounter which could easily have ended 5-5.
Spurs might have been ahead with less than a minute on the clock when Son Heung-min stole in unmarked to connect with Kulusevski’s cross.
But fortunately for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was completely oblivious to Son’s presence, the new Spurs captain shanked his attempted volley which almost went out for a throw-in.
Right from the off it was clear that neither team was going to be sitting back and hoping for the best.
Antony fired a decent opening over after two minutes and Rashford was only denied by a smart reaction save from Guglielmo Vicario.

Man United found themselves frustrated for much of the matchCredit: PA
Alejandro Garnacho was thwarted by a last-ditch block from Cristian Romero and a second crucial intervention from Micky van de Ven was required to keep out Rashford.
Another glorious opportunity came and went when Fernandes’ outrageous rabona presented Rashford with a free header which he sent over the bar.
But an even worse miss followed in the 36th minute when Fernandes was granted the freedom of the Spurs penalty area to convert Luke Shaw’s pinpoint cross yet somehow missed the target by a yard.
Even the Manchester United captain couldn’t believe that one as he stood with his head in his hands wishing for the ground to swallow him up.
Yet it wasn’t all one-way traffic and Spurs also had plenty of chances to break the deadlock in a  breathless first half.
Kulusevski and Sarr both tested Andre Onana’s reactions with fiercely struck shots before Pedro Porro’s 40th minute piledriver rattled the bar and Sarr’s pull-back from the rebound was deflected against his own post by Shaw.
Throw in Garnacho’s appeal for a penalty which struck Romero on the arm but was rejected by VAR Craig Pawson and it was remarkable how we reached the interval with the game still goalless.

And though Antony struck an upright and Casemiro was denied by a brilliant flying save from the impressive Vicario, Ten Hag will still be concerned at the way his team ran out of steam in the second-half.
Their fate was finally sealed in the 84th minute when Ben Davies took a fresh air shot at Ivan Perisic’s low cross into the box and the ball struck Martinez before rolling agonisingly over the line.

BRUNO FERNANDES produced an early contender for miss of the season during Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham. The Red Devils captain was heavily involved as his side took on Ange Postecoglou’s side in North London.

Bruno Fernandes had acres of space to pick his spot
The Portuguese ballooned his header over the bar
In the 36th minute, Fernandes endured a moment to forget.
The Portuguese ace beat Spurs’ offside trap to get on the end of Luke Shaw’s cross.
Despite having the freedom of the penalty area, Fernandes somehow conspired to balloon his header miles over and wide.
The miss prompted loud jeers from the Tottenham fans.

His miss wasn’t the 28-year-old’s only big involvement in the half.
He produced a stunning rabona cross for Marcus Rashford.
