According to the Washington Post, Lingard held talks with the American club this summer after becoming a free agent following his departure from Nottingham Forest.
The versatile midfielder was seeking a guaranteed long-term contract and that led to negotiations hitting a snag.
Rooney also cited salary cap issues during a recent press conference and confirmed DC United were unlikely to add any free agents.
The 30-year-old had been spotted training across from Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium as he revealed he was “considering all options”.

Lingard told Sky Sports: “I’m considering all options. I’ve never ruled out any team or club out, so for me it’s just picking the right team and it’s got to be right for me.
“I just want to play football at the end of the day and that’s all I want to do.”
Rooney also tried to bring United cult hero Morrison back to his team during the summer.
The playmaker joined DC last year and amassed two goals in 14 appearances.

The 30-year-old also trained with Rooney’s side during the summer as both sides searched for an agreement.
The former England international said Morrison has been “brilliant” but the club initially declined to bring him back for a second season.
Therefore, the MLS giants bought out the Jamaica international’s $850k (£675,000) contract this summer. More

Salah has been the subject of two offers from Al-Ittihad, worth £150million and £170m.
And that interest is showing no signs of abating with rumours that Al-Ittihad will return with another offer worth £200m.
Jurgen Klopp said after the game that he was confident that Salah will still be at the club come the end of the Saudi window.
Sky Sports asked Szoboszlai, who opened the scoring in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa whether the dressing room had been talking about Salah’s proposed move.

Szoboszlai said: “Everyone is talking about it and of course we are talking about it to each other. But he wants to stay and be here so we are happy. He is a great person and we need guys like that.”
The Saudi league are desperate to make a move for Salah as they look to make him the face of the league.
The state will reportedly offer the winger £2.4m-a-week to join the Saudi Pro League.
He currently earns around £350,000-a-week at Liverpool.

The staggering numbers on offer has led Jurgen Klopp to admit the Premier League is powerless to stop its best players from leaving.
But Liverpool have drawn a line in the sand on Salah, with the club unable to bring in a replacement for him now the British transfer window has slammed shut.
Speaking about the game, Szoboszlai said: “I am really happy to score my first goal and hope there will be even more to come.
“In the first home game [against Bournemouth] we did not start so well and also at Newcastle, we did not start so well. So after a team meeting, we were told to start well and finish with 11 men. So we scored a quick goal and that was good. Hopefully, everyone will stay healthy.
“As a midfielder, we need time. We do not know each other so when the games come we will be even better and better.” More

Man Utd new signing already in Roy Keane’s bad books just hours after joining club ahead of Arsenal showdown

Man Utd signing Sergio Reguilon was put on full blast by Keane
Reguilon and Andre Onana shook hands with Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale
Before the Red Devils took on Arsenal at the Emirates, Reguilon made a bad first impression in the eyes of the hard Irishman.
The full-back, who joined United on loan from Tottenham on transfer deadline day, was spotted shaking hands with the Gunners’ captain Martin Odegaard inside the tunnel.
Fellow signing Andre Onana did the same with William Saliba and Aaron Ramsdale just before the two teams made their way to the pitch.
Keane insists this show of sportsmanship is best saved for after the full-time whistle.

That is because the two sides need to focus on the serious task at hand that will see them “kicking lumps out of each other”.
Keane told Sky Sports: “All jokes aside, I’m just looking at the tunnel there.
“Everyone thinks I’m old school but I don’t know why you’d want to be chatting to people when you’re about to go to battle because you’re going to be kicking lumps out of each other.
“So why shake? I’ll shake your hand after the game but not before you go into a battle.

“But listen, maybe these younger players will educate me.”
Arsenal hero Theo Walcott agreed with Keane as he also admitted he wasn’t feeling too friendly before kick-off.
Walcott said: “To be honest, I was never one to be saying hello massively.
“I get the goalkeeper side of it but bar that there’s no friends when you cross that line. There really isn’t.”
It didn’t turn out well for Manchester United, with the match finishing 3-1 to Arsenal after two late goals. More

    37. Anthony gets on to the ball on the right, and cuts inside.
    “Trickery!” screams Peter Drury.
The Brazilian then hilariously slices a shot so wide that it ends up behind him.
    Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd
    36. United take possession of the football and look for ways to probe the hosts.
Arsenal slip back into formation 31 of the 43 that Mikel Arteta likes to use.
    Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd
    34. Back in January, it took Arsenal seven minutes to cancel out Marcus Rashford’s opener.
This time, it was jus 35 seconds.
    Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd
    32. Oh, Bruno Fernandes!
The Manchester United captain takes the ball of the foot of Wan-Bissaka, just as the right-back was about to let fly from the edge of the box.
    Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd
    30. The game has burst into life in a blink of an eye.
Suddenly both teams are going for it full throttle.
    Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd
    28. Thirty-five seconds after the restart, and Arsenal have their equaliser!
Gabriel Martinelli makes inroads on the left, exchanges passes with Eddie Nketiah, and squares low across the penalty area for Martin Odegaard.
Head down over the ball, the Gunners captain sweeps his first-time shot left-footed past Andre Onana and into the bottom corner.
    What a response!
    An immediate response!

    Arsenal 0-1 Man Utd
    27. Astonishing!
Manchester United have not going as an attacking force, but now they have the lead.
Christian Eriksen intercepts a sloppy pass deep in his own half, and unleashes Marcus Rashford down the left.
The England man has time to run at two back-tracking Arsenal defenders before cutting inside on to his right foot and letting fly.
Aaron Ramsdale gets a touch to the ball, but can’t stop it from thumping the inside of the post and finding the net.
The away end of the Emirates erupts.
    Against the run of play!

    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    25. More frustration from the home fans and their players too.
Antony kicks the ball away after being pulled up for a foul on Gabriel, and doesn’t receive the customary yellow card.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    23. Martinez goes back to take a goalkick, and – not for the first time – Anthony Taylor runs forward to indicate that he won’t tolerate any time-wasting.
Surely, Manchester United aren’t time wasting in the first half of a Premier League game when it’s 0-0.
    Surely.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    22. It’s getting a bit spiky out there.
Consecutive tackles leave Havertz and White on the deck, and lead to a lot of gestures to calm things down.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    21. Boos are ringing out from the home fans in the direction of Anthony Taylor.
They’re not happy that the referee has penalised Saka for a trip on Dalot that had left the Arsenal player through on goal.
It’s the right decision, of course.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    20. “Andre Onana has been Manchester United’s best outfield player so far,” bemoans Gary Neville on co-commentary.
“That in itself tells you that they have a problem.”
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    18. The home side push forward again, and it requires a defensive header behind from Martinez to deny Saka.
Arsenal’s right winger goes across to take the corner himself, and his whipped delivery is pinpoint for the head of Rice.
The former West Ham man, however, gets underneath the cross and sends his effort over. He runs back, visibly frustrated with himself.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    16. The game is being played predominantly in the Manchester United half.
Even though the visitors have seen a fair share of the ball, they’ve not been able to link anything together in the final third.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    14. Martinelli fires the corner straight into the nearest United defender at the front post.
Perhaps he’s just trying to make Havertz feel better.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    13. Oh, what a mess!
Martinelli’s cross into the area from the left is headed by Fernandes straight into Martial.
It subsequently drops to the feet of Havertz ten yards from goal, but the German inexplicably miskicks.
The ball still looks as though it could spin into the path of Nketiah though, and it takes a desperate slide from Martinez to put it behind for a corner.
    A huge chance goes begging.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    11. Sure enough, a sharp break down the right sees Saka go at Dalot for the first time.
He ultimately squares to Odegaard, who is dispossessed by a perfect Fernandes tackle.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    10. Arsenal keep possession at the back, slowing the game down after a frantic start.
You get the feeling it won’t be long before they opt to go at United again though.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    8. Havertz clatters into Antony and sends the winger somersaulting into the air.
It’s not a great-looking challenge from the German, but somehow the United player still manages to overdo it with his reaction.
Referee Anthony Taylor keeps his cards in his pocket on this occasion.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    7. Onana has just come so far out of his goal to play a pass downfield that he was actually in front of Lindelof and Martinez.
That seems to be asking for trouble.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    5. On closer inspection, that United kit is dark green and white stripes.
My eyes are so bad I’m thinking of becoming a Premier League referee.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    3. It’s been a whirlwind start from Arsenal and Martinelli in particular.
The winger wins the game’s first corner after taking on Wan-Bissaka, and then almost wins a penalty by dribbling beyond a dozing Fernandes.
The Manchester United captain thought about having a nibble at the Arsenal man, but pulled out at the final second.
    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
    2. In fact, it was the Gunners that had an opportunity to grab an early lead.
Martinelli got in behind his man on the left, but with Odegaard and Nketiah awaiting in the area, the Brazilian was caught in two minds and crossed between the pair. More

Brighton hat-trick hero Evan Ferguson could still switch international allegiance to ENGLAND like Rice and Grealish

EVAN FERGUSON could still switch his allegiances from Ireland to England, according to reports. The Telegraph report that Ferguson remains eligible to play for England despite making six international appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

Ferguson, 18, qualifies for the England national team due to his mother being English.
But the Brighton sensation has no intention of switching allegiances having grown up in Bettystown, Meath.
He has represented the Irish national team from Under-15s level all the way through to the senior side and is in Stephen Kenny’s squad for Ireland’s upcoming qualifiers against France and the Netherlands.
Ferguson is expected to lead the line for Ireland in both games and needs just one more appearance in a green shirt to close off the possibility of playing for England.

Fans might be perplexed as to how Ferguson could STILL change his allegiance to the England national team despite appearing six times in an Ireland shirt.
That’s because Fifa rules on changing nationality were relaxed in 2020.
Players are now eligible to switch nationalities until they have played four competitive games for their country.
As only three of Ferguson’s six Ireland appearances have come in qualifiers, he could, in theory, switch to the England national team right now.

The rule on playing four times for a country only apply if the player made those appearances before they turned 21 – it was brought in to protect players that are called up to a national team at a young age in order for countries to lock in access to the player.
As Ferguson is just 18, he is eligible to switch.
Declan Rice made use of the rule when he changed national teams from Ireland to England in 2019 after making three senior appearances for Ireland.
Jack Grealish also changed allegiances to play for England after representing Ireland at youth level.
Ferguson has been asked about the prospect of switching allegiances to England before in an interview with Sky Sports and said: “That’s not gonna happen, no.
“My mam is English, so that’s where the tie comes in. But I’ve seen a few saying oh, will he? Will he? But I can tell you now it’s a no.”
Presenter Melissa Reddy then said: “I don’t think your Dad would let you.”
To which Ferguson said “I wouldn’t be allowed back.”

The Telegraph report centred around the fact that Ferguson snubbed interest this summer to sign a new deal at Brighton.

But with his contract due to expire in December, attempts to reach out to the owners to discuss an extension have failed.
And now the ex-England striker, who wants to remain in Washington, has spoken out about the situation.
Talking to the Washington Post, Rooney said: “I am slightly disappointed and frustrated there has been no contact for two months.
“We asked about a new deal. We can sit down and talk about it. We haven’t heard back.

“Either way, I can take whatever the situation is. I was hoping we would have, either way, at least spoken about it. That hasn’t been the case.
“We asked to sit down and speak because planning for next season needs to go ahead.
“So we asked two months ago where everything was at, are we moving forward or not moving forward — if that’s the case from their point of view — and we haven’t heard back.
“That’s frustrating because, either way, I’d rather know what’s the plan because we have to plan for next season. We need to do it earlier rather than later.

“The fact we haven’t heard back is probably signalling one thing, but I’m sure they’ll have their reasons for that. So I’ll wait and see.”
The Liverpool-born coach also opened up about how he misses his wife, Coleen, 37, and four children Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass.
His family have not been out in America with him during his time at DC United.
Rooney added: “Of course, you miss the kids and you miss your wife, but it’s been as good as it can be.
“I’ve been settled here. The family has been settled at home. It hasn’t been an issue at all.”

Arsenal vs Man Utd could be left unwatchable for fans due to potential kit clash

ARSENAL’S clash with Manchester United had some fans fearing it would be unwatchable due to a major kit problem. The Gunners were hosting the Red Devils at the Emirates for the 4.30pm kick-off in the Premier League.

And the mammoth showdown is being broadcast live on Sky Sports – FOLLOW ARSENAL VS MAN UTD WITH OUR LIVE BLOG.
However, supporters feared they would be unable to tell the two teams apart.
That is because Arsenal will wear their regular red home kit.
United obviously cannot play in their red home kit – so are instead are turning out in their dark green away strip with white stripes.

But for colourblind viewers, the two shirts may well look very similar.
United, though, are going to wear black shorts and socks which will contrast the white shorts and socks of the home side.
Twitter user Museum of Jerseys posted a version of the impact of protanopia on today’s kits – with red and green often confused and indistinguishable.
United do have a white third kit this season – but that shirt is supposed to be worn with red shorts and socks which would cause an overall clash with Arsenal’s red and white kit.

Interestingly, the Premier League handbook does instruct clubs to consider colourblindness when selecting kits for matches.
This includes notifying teams of potential colour clashes and encouraging them to use different patterns – such as striped kits – and contrasting shorts and socks, but the Premier League clubs have first choice on which kit they want to wear for any given match.
Fans, though, took to Twitter to blast United’s decision.
One said: “Not sure what would be wrong with our third shirt with the black alternate home shorts.”
Another wrote: “Really bad for colourblind viewers. The Premier League should be better a this.”
A third added: “By the way, this does not show what it’s like watching a game at all, the reality is far, far worse.”
Another said: “This kit clash is not ok for us colourblind folk.”
And a final user hilariously quipped: “If you aren’t sure the red No8 [Martin Odegaard] is stood up with the ball and the green No8 [Bruno Fernandes] is rolling around somewhere like he’s been taken out by a sniper.”

Supporters were also frustrated that Tottenham decided to wear their navy away kit to take on Burnley in their claret home strip yesterday.
