Johnson scored eight goals and registered three assists in 33 league appearances during his debut season in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old is in line to make his Tottenham debut this weekend as Spurs welcome Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Wales captain and former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey has already described Johnson’s potential as “scary” but admitted that he wished the forward hadn’t signed for Tottenham.
Bale echoed Ramsey’s praise for Johnson when talking to Sky Sports at the PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth.

On Johnson’s potential, the former Real Madrid winger said: “He’s doing well, he’s doing well.
“I think the more he plays now in the top flight, the better he’ll get. Like you said, the sky is the limit.
“I think as long as he’s playing football and improving, it’s good for Tottenham and it’s good for Wales also.”
Reacting to Ramsey’s comments, Bale also managed to get in a dig at his former North London rivals, saying he was happy with Johnson’s choice of Premier League club and saying it was: “Better than Arsenal.”

Bale also revealed that he was a fan of new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and said: “Yeah it’s great, they’ve got their style back. I think that’s something that the club was looking for as well after seeing how he performed and played at Celtic.
“[It’s a] Great start and hopefully there’s more to come from the team and then there’ll just keep getting better and better with the new manager and the new kind of style.
“Hopefully they can put themselves up there and give themselves a chance.”
Bale was also asked about Jude Bellingham, who has had an electrifying impact at Bale’s former club Real Madrid since joining this summer.
The 20-year-old has five goals and one assist in his four LaLiga games so far this season.
And Bale has backed him to continue that success, saying: “He’s obviously had a great start at Madrid. He’s scoring goals which is important, especially at a club like that.
“To get off to a good start at a club like Madrid is obviously important. He’s doing well and hopefully he can keep doing well and keep doing Britain proud.” More

Peter Crouch reveals Premier League cult hero was ‘weird guy who didn’t like football’ and always ate same bizarre lunch

PETER CROUCH has revealed former Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto ‘didn’t like’ football and used to eat a peculiar lunch before games.Assou-Ekotto, 39, spent nine years at Spurs from 2006 to 2015, racking up 202 appearances for the club.

Two of those seasons were spent playing with Crouch, 42, who featured as one of Harry Redknapp’s strikers while they competed for the Champions League places.
Yet despite impressing with many of his performances, Assou-Ekotto was not actually a football fan.
Speaking to The Mail, Crouch said: “He [Assou-Ekotto] would tell us straight out that he had no interest in football whatsoever. He genuinely didn’t like it.
“At 1.30pm on a Saturday he’d have no idea which team you were playing. ‘But Benoit, we’ve been talking about them in training all week…'”

Crouch also spoke about the bizarre lunch the ex-Cameroon international used to eat prior to a match.
The former England target man continued: “And so to his pre-match meal. Now none of us are adventurous. It’s pasta, chicken, no sauce, and has been for the past 20 years.
“Benoit would turn up with a Tesco’s bag containing the same four items every time: a croissant, a hot chocolate, a full-fat Coke and a packet of crisps.
“The croissant I understood. He is French-Cameroonian. The hot chocolate: same cultural backstory. He used to dip the first into the second.

“But the crisps, and the Coke — it was like two discrete lunches, one belonging to a middle-aged Parisian and the other a 12-year-old on the Seven Sisters Road. And it worked. He was always in great shape and rarely injured.
“We accepted it, along with all the other weirdness: the random cars he would turn up to training in, sometimes a Smart car, then a Lamborghini; the way he would refuse to take ice baths for recovery, on the rather basic premise that they were ‘too cold’.
“Benoit was a really weird guy but we loved him a lot.”
As well as his dislike for football and unique eating habits, Assou-Ekotto also enjoyed taking the tube.
While a Spurs player, he often used the underground to navigate London.
At the time, he told the Evening Standard: “I really like London. When I go back to France, 24 hours is enough. I like the mentality here. I have an Oyster card and can use the tube stations without a problem.
“The people on the tube are very friendly. Sometimes they ask me about the last game, sometimes they ask me if I’m really Benoit Assou-Ekotto… and sometimes I say no, he is my little brother!
“Or they ask me why I use the tube and I say why not? They say it’s strange because I play in the Premier League and use the tube. It’s funny to speak to people who are surprised with how you live.

“Not many people in football have the same attitude as me. Nobody is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. When you know where you come from, it’s easier to map out where you want to go. You shouldn’t forget that.”
After leaving Spurs eight years ago, Assou-Ekotto spent one year at Saint-Etienne and two years at Metz, before hanging up his boots in 2018. More

I’m a former Premier League star turned international manager – I used an ASTROLOGER to help me pick line-ups

FORMER Premier League star Igor Stimac has been accused of taking the Pisces – after using an ASTROLOGER to help him pick a national team. The ex-Derby County and West Ham defender has been India’s national coach since 2019.

Former Croatia international Stimac has also managed his home country as well as clubs in Croatia, Iran and Qatar.
But Stimac, 56, has come under fire since Indian media revealed he repeatedly consulted stargazer Bhupesh Sharma before picking his teams last year.
Former Indian FA chief Kushal Das said he introduced Stimac to Delhi-based Sharma in May 2022.
Das said: “I met him at a meeting. He (Sharma) had worked for a lot of telecom companies and Bollywood personalities.

“What they presented was that astrological timings and the current phase of players can help motivate people into taking the right decisions.
“I was worried whether India would qualify for the Asian Cup, and so was Igor. I told Sharma I’d put him in touch with Igor and if he liked the idea he could get back to me.
“Igor was very convinced, and they were in Kolkata throughout.
“We used Sharma’s professional services for two months, and we paid him around £15,000 – 1.5million rupees.

“That didn’t seem such a huge amount, since India qualified for the Asian Cup.”
Stimac told Indian Express: “Bhupesh was recommended to me and I was convinced (by others) that I have to check upon his possible effects in sports…No more than that.
“I requested another foreign assistant coach which was never even considered and was shocked to find out the size of Bhupesh’s contract.”
The newspaper claimed over 100 messages were sent between Stimac and Sharma before matches last summer.
The Croatian boss reportedly asked the astrologer to check the star charts of the players in his squads, and selected his teams based on Sharma’s feedback.
The astrologer replied with remarks against each name like: “Good”; “can do very well. Needs to avoid over confidence”; “a below average day”; “a very good day for him but might get over aggressive”; and “not recommended for the day”.
After beating Afghanistan 2-1 in June, Sharma also said to Stimac: “Do let me know how close we were in this match with player analysis as per charts when you get free.”
Stimac replied: “Everything was spot on, I will explain to you when we meet.”
Stimac played for Derby between 1995 and 1999, then spent the next two seasons with West Ham.
He made 127 league appearances, scoring four goals, before re-joining former club Hajduk Split.
He hit back at his critics, writing on social media: “Target, or honest fighter for the betterment of Indian football?

I’m a former top footballer who was compared to George Best but I quit at 23 to become a Jehovah’s Witness

NOBODY expected Peter Knowles to actually go through with his decision to retire from football aged just 23 in 1969.His club Wolves, for whom he was something of a rising star, kept laying out his kit each day – ready for his return.

    But he never came back.
Knowles had played four times for England’s Under-23s and had even drawn comparisons with Manchester United legend George Best.
A trip to the United States to play games on loan at Kansas Spurs would change everything for Knowles, however, when two local Jehovah’s Witnesses knocked on his door.
“At the time, I was an atheist. I didn’t believe in a God. I was happy to be a professional footballer, to play for Wolves,” Knowles said in 2018.

“I am not bragging here. But I loved it and I was good at it. One day, two Jehovah’s Witnesses knocked on my door. I said to them: ‘Why did my dad and my two sisters, who’d done nowt wrong, die?’
“They came in and answered that question. They answered another question and then another I had never got an answer to.
“That’s how I became a Jehovah’s Witness. If I hadn’t met them I’d have carried on playing football.”
Upon his return to the UK Knowles went back to Wolves, but his heart was no longer in the beautiful game.

He banged in three goals in his side’s opening four games of the 1969-70 season and even had a chance at making Sir Alf Ramsey’s Three Lions squad for the following summer’s World Cup.
But he abruptly called it quits, giving up football for good.
Everyone at Wolves thought he’d be back, and even kept contracts for him until he turned 36.
His brother Cyril, then a star of Bill Nicholson’s Tottenham side, also felt it was only a matter of time – but Knowles held firm.
    NO GOING BACK
When his former striker partners Derek Dougan and Frank Munro were suspended later that season, Knowles popped into Molineux to grab his old football boots as he prepared to coach local kids.
Boss Bill McGarry made an impassioned plea for Knowles to return in his old team’s hour of need, and Wolves’ former star was tempted.
But feeling that he wouldn’t be able to give it all up a second time, Knowles turned his old boss down.
Rather than return to football, he performed a variety of odd jobs; a milkman, a window cleaner, a tile salesman, an M&S warehouseman.
While it may seem an extreme career change for most, Knowles has no regrets.
He continued: “Everybody – the manager, the players, my family, all the Wolves supporters – they all said, ‘He’ll be back in six months.’
“My family couldn’t cope. My mum was upset, so angry. My brother Cyril (who played for Spurs) said: ‘Give him six months.’ They couldn’t cope.
“Wolves put my strip out for about a year. Contracts were sent to me for ten years. They thought I’d sign it.
“It’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. I’ve never regretted it. Not once.”

    ‘I’VE DONE ALL THAT’
Knowles subsequently spent over 50 years preaching the word of God with wife Jean – and he has enjoyed every second.
“When I was younger I used to do all that, the nightlife, the cars. Well, I’ve done all that,” he added.
“Basically I work, preach, read the Bible and go to meetings – that’s my life. And I am dead chuffed with it.”
    NOT A LONE WOLF
Knowles isn’t the only former Wolves player to give up football for the church.
Striker Richard Leadbeater, who came through the Molineux side’s academy in the 1990s, retired at 26 to become a reverend after studying theology at the University of Brimingham.
Asked about Knowles by Wolves Heroes, the 42-year-old said: “I think you can be a Christian footballer, just as you can be a Christian lawyer or a Christian professor. But it should change the way you think.
“You see things through Christian lenses. To get to the top, you have to sacrifice a lot, make it the most important thing.
“But being Christian is a case of putting others before self, doing things to the honour of Jesus and not yourself.
I can understand how Peter Knowles feltRichard Leadbeater
“The amount of time, dedication, energy and ambition to get to the top is very difficult for a serious Christian. You see life as about not being for your own pleasure but about proclaiming a different message.
“It is possible – and needed – to be a Christian footballer. We need Christians in the football world. We need Christians everywhere. But I can understand how Peter Knowles felt.
“I had a professional footballer friend in Scotland who stopped because when he played, he could not do it in a Godly way. Of course it may be possible for some.”
    ‘THEY IDOLISED ME’
Juggling the adulation that came with fame with his faith was something that Knowles struggled to reconcile with.
He said: “The Bible says ‘All men are created equal’.
“But when I put a football shirt on, there was a difference. People began to worship me. They idolised me.
“They treated me differently to an ordinary person. So, I thought: ‘What am I going to do?’
“The biggest problem as well was becoming a Jehovah’s Witness.

“People would say: ‘Why don’t you mix the two?’ I said to them: ‘I can’t. I’ve got to give one up or the other.’ And I decided to give up football.”
He scored 61 goals in 174 games in total for Wolves – before becoming one of English football’s great “What if?” stories.

He was joined on the trip by Playboy models Jo Guest and Leah Newman – who he would later marry in 2013.
They were taken to a British base in Baghdad – a camp which was previously the home of former Iraqi president Hussein.
And after a tour of the premises, Ruddock took the opportunity to use a gold toilet he had spotted in one of the bathrooms – before he was later joined in there by Leah.
Recalling the story in his autobiography, ‘The World According to Razor’, he said: “We’d been told about this beforehand and as soon as we found it I asked Leah to leave the room. ‘Why?’ she asked. ‘Because I want to take a dump in Saddam Hussein’s bog’. She didn’t need asking twice.

“When I was halfway through I got lonely so I asked Leah if she’d come in and take a photo of me reading a newspaper on this bog and she very kindly obliged.”
    Afterwards, things got weirder.
Ruddock proceeded to engage Leah in a bit of wrestling.
He continued: “Once I’d washed my hands we went into the bedroom that was adjacent to Saddam’s gold toilet and, just for a laugh, I pushed Leah onto the bed.

“Actually, it wasn’t just for a laugh. I wanted to see if she was up for a quick wrestle, if you see what I mean, and after jumping on after her and trying a hold or two it appeared she wasn’t. Yet! She was definitely weakening though.
“When me and Leah stepped out of the lift into reception there were about a hundred squaddies and as soon as they saw us they all started cheering and gave us a massive round of applause.
“It turned out there were CCTV cameras everywhere apart from the bog, thank God, and my failed wrestling match had been broadcast for all to see. Thank God she said no, that’s all I can say! Imagine having your own sex tape before you’ve even had a date.”
Ruddock and Leah remain married to this day, while the ex-footballer is still occasionally seen on TV as he has become known for his larger-than-life personality.
Concluding the story, he added: “Just as I suspected, Leah did eventually succumb to my charms (no woman could resist them for long), and when we arrived back in England we started seeing each other.
“I always describe her as being my best mate and that’s no exaggeration. She makes me laugh like nobody else I know.”
Ruddock enjoyed a 17-year professional career which saw him feature for a host of English clubs including Millwall, Tottenham, Southampton, Liverpool, QPR, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Swindon.
His only major trophy came with Liverpool in 1995 when they claimed the League Cup.
Ruddock’s solitary England cap came under Terry Venables in 1994 when he started in a 1-0 friendly win over Nigeria.

Ronaldo, 46, is one of football’s most iconic players thanks to his glittering club and international career.
The former striker netted 414 goals while starring for the likes of Real, AC Milan, Inter, Barcelona and Brazil.
Ronaldo, now owner of Spanish club Real Valladolid, won numerous trophies including TWO World Cups.

According to journalist Tony Banks, Ronaldo once accidentally agreed to play for Fulham.
During his Real Madrid Galactico days, he ended up in London doing a book-signing event at Knightsbridge superstore Harrods – owned at the time by Al Fayed.
The billionaire, who passed away this month aged 94, cheekily asked Ronaldo to turn out on the pitch at Craven Cottage.
And due to the language barrier, Ronaldo accidentally agreed to play.

Banks told the Fulhamish podcast: “Ronaldo comes to Harrods for a book signing.
“He’s at Real Madrid at the time knocking in the goals.
“He’s signing his autobiography in Harrods and Al Fayed wonders into the room and says ‘you can come and play for Fulham’.
“Ronaldo’s not very good with his English and says: ‘Yeah, yeah, sometime’.
“Two weeks later, Andy Ambler (Fulham’s then-finance director) gets a call in the office.
“(Al Fayed tells him): ‘Get Ronaldo in for Saturday’. Ambler replies: ‘What do you mean?’
