Todd Boehly was NOT behind the big calls to sack Tuchel and Potter with Behdad Eghbali in ‘ultimate control’

TODD BOEHLY was not behind the big calls to sack Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter last season.Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali is said to be the one in “ultimate control” at Stamford Bridge.

The duo have spent over £1billion on transfers in just three windows following last year’s £4.25bn takeover.
Chelsea are also on their fifth touchline manager in that time, having whizzed through Frank Lampard, Bruno Saltor, Potter and Tuchel.
Blues chairman Boehly is the face of the club and is assumed to have had the final say on the latter duo’s respective departures.
However, the Telegraph claims it’s Eghbali who ultimately calls the shots.

He is the joint-founder of private equity fund Clearlake Capital.
The investment company has funds worth an incredible £60bn under its control, and owns 65 per cent of the consortium heading Chelsea.
It means Eghbali is in “ultimate control” of the Londoners.
And he was reportedly behind the huge call to axe Tuchel a year ago, before pulling the plug on successor Potter months later.

Eghbali also spent time in London overseeing all of Chelsea’s transfer dealings this year.
Along with Boehly, he is the driving force behind the new policy to sign players under the age of 25.
Eghbali is also a big believer in long-term contracts to maximise market value.
And he takes no prisoners either, happily selling the likes of Mason Mount to avoid missing out on a transfer fee. More

Jadon Sancho lined up for shock switch to Premier League strugglers with Man Utd outcast ‘open to January transfer’

Sancho issued a statement, which has since been deleted, denying Ten Hag’s claim he had been left out because he wasn’t training well enough, and insisted he was being made a scapegoat.
The winger was subsequently banished from first-team training after Sancho refused to apologise for his outburst, with his days at the club looking numbered
According to Manchester Evening News Sancho is open to a January transfer – and there is no shortage of interest.
Nottingham Forest are the latest club to be linked to the 23-year-old, who signed Anthony Elanga from United in the summer.

Inside Chelsea’s plan to create super 100-point team as Boehly and Eghbali target Sporting Lisbon as second feeder club

The Blues are into their second season under the American and fellow co-owner Behdad Eghbali, who took charge last year in a £4.25bn takeover from Roman Abramovich.
Their first term was an unmitigated disaster by any club’s books, with Chelsea working their way through FOUR pitch-side managers before settling on Mauricio Pochettino.
The Blues won just 11 league games as they finished 12th.
But Boehly and Eghbali won’t be too concerned for now as they continue following their blueprint to build a squad capable of reaching 100 points per season.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
The duo are determined to turn Chelsea into the league’s dominant force.
They believe that by signing the best young talent now, they can foster and nurture a winning culture that will eventually result in a record-breaking side.
Only Manchester City have ever reached 100 points, achieving that feat in the 2017/18 season with 32 wins and just two defeats.
Chelsea are certainly showing they’re investing for the future, spending well over £1billion in just three windows to create a squad with an average age of just 23.

Chelsea’s signings under the new regime
A source told the Telegraph: “[The owners are] continuously thinking about what that 100 point team looks like.
“And putting together the right players who will make that 100 point team.”
It now remains to be seen if Boehly and Eghbali have invested in the right stars, with players like Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo not going anywhere soon with eight-year contracts.
In the meantime, Chelsea will continue to develop youngsters outside the first-team squad by potentially moving for another feeder team.
The Blues’ owners have already taken control of French side Strasbourg, loaning them Brazilian winger Angelo.

Mauricio Pochettino has been tasked with getting things rightCredit: Getty
And they now have European giants Sporting Lisbon in their sights, with the 19-time Portuguese league winners providing a bigger platform for youngsters to develop.
Chelsea also plan to match their growth on and off the pitch by upgrading Stamford Bridge.
The process has so far proved difficult due to its location and site size.
Should it prove untenable to expand Chelsea’s home since 1905, Boehly and Eghbali are not afraid to look elsewhere for a ground move.
The duo feel they “have an asset unlike any other in sport”, and plan to “maximise” all commercial aspects of the Chelsea brand.

Premier League close to agreeing £130m new funding package for EFL, but parachute payments could be at risk

PREM clubs are set to finally agree a new extra £130million-per-year funding package for the EFL.But the cash boost will be conditional on lower division clubs accepting strict financial control rules.
Burnley achieved promotion back to the promised land of the PremCredit: PA
In contrast, Leicester went down, and clubs dropping to the Championship in future must now must wait to see the fate of parachute paymentsCredit: Getty
And there is STILL no agreement on the future of parachute payments for relegated teams
EFL chiefs have been pushing for a massive increase of £1bn from top flight TV revenues over a three-year cycle, in addition to the current £1.6bn over the period.
That demand was fiercely resisted by Prem club chiefs, who pointed out that many EFL club owners had deeper pockets than they did.
But with growing pressure from the Government for the Prem and EFL to reach a deal before being ordered to accept a figure, a compromise is being hammered out ahead of next week’s meeting of the 20 top flight clubs.
    READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWS
The proposal to be put before the clubs will be for the extra cash to be distributed on a “merit” basis, determined by the final position in each of the three EFL divisions.
As part of the agreement, clubs will also agree to costs limits of their own, limiting spending on wages and transfers to a fixed percentage of revenues.
That will mirror – most likely at a higher threshold – the rules being introduced by UEFA over the next three seasons, which will see a maximum of 70 per cent of revenues allowed to be spent by 2025-26.
The supposed deal would see teams at the top of the Championship nearly doubling their current annual £5.2m Prem windfall to nearer £9m.

But many of the Prem clubs outside the Big Six remain determined to keep the principal of parachute payments and only accept a limited reduction in their value.
Parachute payments are currently worth up to £106m over three years for established Prem clubs like Leicester who fall out of the top flight.
And some of the smaller Prem clubs are arguing that they should have less tight spending restrictions in the event of relegation and the clubs they join in the Championship. More

Ten Premier League stars who have been banished from club training including Sancho and Aubameyang

FIERCE, feisty and free-spirited – this list includes players who could strike trepidation into their own managers as well as rival teams. Each of these ten big names in Premier League history have the same claim to fame – or shame.

Paul Pogba’s second spell at Man Utd was far longer and filled with more drama but he was barred from training during his first stint thereCredit: Getty
Some – like Paul Pogba and Luis Suarez – are legends whose careers in England were marred by controversy amid their brilliance.
Others – such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – had long spells inspiring awe blotted by sudden revelations.
And a few – step forward Virgil van Dijk – have long-forgotten incidents in their Prem CV.
There’s also the public spats – none more dramatic than Jadon Sancho’s with his Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

But all of them have been banished from club training at some time.
The numbers easily run into ‘trouble figures’ – but here’s our guide to how ten of these players were forced into solo practice and the effect it had on their careers.
    JADON SANCHO
The England winger’s Old Trafford future was threatened by a remarkable exchange with Ten Hag.

Sancho’s omission from a match squad at Arsenal in September 2023 was put down to poor training by his Dutch manager.

The 23-year-old hit back on social media at the “completely untrue” claims and added: “I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time.”
Sancho deleted his post days later during an international break – when United players were given a week off training.
The Red Devils then gave him an individual training plan – as club chiefs reportedly discussed if he should play for them again.
    PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG
From iconic goalscorer and skipper to sudden outcast – the Gabon hero’s Arsenal stint deteriorated rapidly after what boss Mikel Arteta called his “latest disciplinary breach”.

The striker was stripped of the club captaincy for reportedly returning late after being given a day’s leave to visit his family in France back in December 2021.
But amid other claims of dodgy time-keeping, the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace was promptly barred from first-team training.
Aubameyang moved to Barcelona just two months later before an unhappy 2022-23 season with Chelsea.
    LUIS SUAREZ
For a player banned for biting three players on three separate occasions, the Uruguayan’s training banishment at Liverpool seems tame by comparison.
Suarez reacted angrily in the summer of 2013 after claiming the Reds had broken a promise to sell him to Barcelona.
Then-Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers denied the suggestion – and made him train alone.
But in a way the outcome was perfect for both parties.
Suarez went on to hit 31 goals and SAS strike partner Daniel Sturridge 21 – as the first Liverpool frontpair to notch 20 apiece in one campaign since Ian St John and Roger Hunt in 1963/64.
The Reds missed out on the Prem title to Manchester City by just two points.
And Suarez was sold at the end of the campaign to Barca – where he formed the all-time great MSN link-up with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
    AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES
The versatile Englishman paid the price for an Instagram post on transfer deadline day in August 2021 revealing he wanted to quit Arsenal for Everton.
The Londoner wrote: “All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play.”
Gunners’ chief Arteta swiftly told the wideman to train on his own.
Maitalnd-Niles was, however, brought back into the Arsenal squad for the season, although he never became a regular starter and joined Lyon in August 2023.
    JOEY BARTON
The hothead midfielder blasted Newcastle on Twitter in August 2011 – and as a result, in his own words, was “predictably” barred from training with the rest of the squad.
Joey Barton has been involved in many hostile encounters on and off the pitch but it was his words that led to a training ban at NewcastleCredit: AFP
Four years after winning his only England cap, Barton chose social media to attack the Magpies on their transfer policy and even suggested Toon players were unhappy.
Boss Alan Pardew isolated Barton in training ahead of a move to QPR the same month.
    DIEGO COSTA
Best-known for winding up opposition defenders, the hardman forward could be pretty adept at irking his own managers too.
Then-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte sent the Spain star back to his birth-country Brazil following a row with one of the Blues’ coaches.
Conte allegedly told Costa by text he was no longer wanted.
And soon, in September 2017, the targetman got the return to Atletico Madrid that he admitted he wanted.
Costa was later forced to do a solo spell of training back at Atletico – when manager Diego Simeone ordered him to lose weight.
    SPORT FEATURES
    PAUL POGBA
Despite the soap opera of his second spell at Old Trafford, it was during the Frenchman’s first stint from 2011-2012 when he got banned from team training for a week.
It summed up the awkward relationship Pogba and agent Mino Raiola had with legendary United chief Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Red Devils eventually allowed the midfielder to join Juventus.
United brought him back for £90million in 2016 but Juve re-signed him six years later.
    HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
Arguably Jose Mourinho’s least successful recruit for Manchester United, the Armenia winger was an outcast just four months after arriving from Borussia Dortmund in June 2016.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was signed by Jose Mourinho for Man Utd but his Old Trafford career soon nose-divedCredit: Getty – Contributor
Mourinho made Mkhitaryan train alone at Carrington.
Yet his United career somehow continued until January 2018, when he switched to Arsenal as the make-weight in Alexis Sanchez’s move the other way.
    PAPISS CISSE
The Senegal attacker put his principles first when controversial payday loan company Wonga became Newcastle sponsors in 2013.
Standing by his Muslim faith, Cisse refused to wear the club shirt with the firm’s name on it.
Toon chief Alan Pardew made him train on his own.
But Cisse revived his Newcastle career impressively before joining Shandong Luneng in 2016.
    VIRGIL VAN DIJK
Southampton ordered the Dutchman to train away from his club-mates when he tried to force a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.

Former Man Utd boss ‘ready’ to replace Hansi Flick as Germany manager after nine months unemployed

Van Gaal has been out of work for nine months since his third stint in charge of the Netherlands.
The 72-year-old went on to lead his nation for the third time – the first from 2000-2001 then the second from 2012-2014.
He returned in 2021 for just a year – then stepped down after the Netherlands exited last year’s World Cup.
The Dutchman in between his international spells spent two years at Old Trafford between 2014-2016 and led the Red Devils to FA Cup glory.

Van Gaal was known for his humour, witty behaviour and memorable quotes during his time at United which turned him into somewhat of an internet meme.
He went viral for thinking Chris Smalling’s name was “Mike” during a press conference, telling his squad to “get horny” and his infamous dive in front of fourth official Mike Dean on the touchline.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Van Gaal is “ready to take over” from Flick.

He has had 25 radiation treatments to treat the aggressive form of prostate cancer and hopes that another medical procedure will provide him with good news.
Meanwhile, the DFB are reported to be considering Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann who is believed to be the current top choice.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was the DFB’s dream signing as they aim to secure a head coach before the country hosts Euro 2024.
Klopp was born in Stuggart and has managed Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Mainz before making the move to Anfield in 2015.
He has previously revealed he would be honoured to manage the German national squad, the Metro claims.
But his agent Marc Kosicke was quick to decline the offer as his Liverpool contract remains in place until 2026.
Meaning, that the 2014 World Cup champions still remain on the hunt for a manager.
