Everton supporters felt that they may be given a reprieve, when a VAR check seemed to draw a line suggesting there had been an offside in the build-up.
But it was later revealed that they had been wasting time reviewing the wrong image.
Officials were examining the position of Brentford’s central forward… who was not active as they were looking at the previous pass to a different player 0 much to the Evertonians’ ire.
One tweeted: “So the 1st VAR check was Offside and then they realised, they were looking at a wrong frame.

A third fumed: “VAR officials tried to rule out the goal using the wrong frame.”
Another added: “Did the officials on VAR really just study the wrong phase of play for ages on that Brentford goal?

    “They really are abhorrently useless.”
Sean Dyche’s men went into the match chasing their first Premier League victory of the season.
Their solitary point to date came in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.
They took the lead on just six minutes via Doucoure’s sweet half-volley.
But Jensen’s strike pegged them back, just moments after Doucoure had struck the woodwork. More

Schade appeared on crunches at the start of the second half
But after taking a shot during the warm-up, he immediately went down in agony as the Sky Sports cameras caught the incident during their live coverage.
Schade appeared to be clutching his leg in what looked to be a thigh injury, but did manage to hobble off the field.
And he was swiftly taken out of the starting XI as manager Thomas Frank replaced him with Keane Lewis-Potter.
It was a major blow for Brentford – who are having to field an attacking trio without Ivan Toney as he remains banned until January.

Returning striker Neal Maupay was also unavailable for the game.
And defender Rico Henry faces missing the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury earlier this week.
Schade scored the opening goal in the Bees’ 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace earlier this month.
But Brentford’s unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign came to an end last weekend when they lost 1-0 to Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Frank appeared on Monday Night Football earlier this week.
And he hinted that Toney, who is serving a ban for breaching FA’s betting rules, could be sold if the club receive the right offer.
Speaking generally about selling players, he said: “So far we’ve only sold one in the Premier League, that was David Raya – or that’s a loan but probably will be a sale in the future, I guess.
“I think every club in the world are a selling club except five or six clubs. We are a selling club, if the right price is there.
“I think if it’s the right time for the player to go, from my perspective that’s not my decision that would be Phil [Giles, director of football] or Matthew [Benham, Brentford’s owner] in the end.
“Then I think if they have developed well with us, been on the journey, and now they’re proven good enough to go to the top clubs, then I think it’s the right thing, if it’s the right price.”
Then referencing Toney specifically, he added: “I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there about him.
“For me he’s one of the best strikers, as a striker No9, I don’t see many out there who is better in the world than him, of course you have [Harry] Kane, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Erling] Haaland and these types, but not many.

“He scored 20 goals in the Premier League last year, in, of course, a very good Brentford side but of course we are not creating as many chances as the top six or seven teams.
“So imagine him in a top team, he’d easily score 20, 25 goals, for me. I think he’s composed, he’s a good finisher, top mentality, so I understand why clubs are looking at him.” More

Mauricio Pochettino accused of turning into Eric Cantona with bizarre comment on Chelsea’s poor form

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has been accused of going “full Cantona” after bizarrely referencing lemons while discussing Chelsea’s poor start to the season. The Argentine, 51, has discussed using lemons in the past as he believes they absorb negative energy.

But he has now insisted they only began to have an effect at Spurs after two years.
And he has used that as an explanation for why they are yet to have any impact on Chelsea – who have won just one of five Premier League games so far this season.
Speaking to The Guardian, he said: “They [the lemons] started to work after two years at Tottenham. Give time to the lemons.
“It is a thing that we all believe. If you want to have good energy you need to implement all the things that you believe.

“I believe in the lemons but at Tottenham they started to work after one and a half, two years. They need a long time, they are not magic, but more than ever I still believe in them.
“Today in my office I have yellow ones, green ones, different types. From Spain, from Italy. I don’t want to lie, there is a big box of lemons.
“I always thought the yellow lemons worked much better than the green but now I believe in any colour – any colour can help.
“If I could get a blue lemon it would be even better.”

Pochettino was then asked about whether a green lemon is actually a lime.
To which he replied: “A lime is not a lemon. It is a brother, maybe with a different mother or different father.”
The comments have been met with widespread confusion on social media.
And one person said: “Mauricio Pochettino has gone ‘full Cantona’ in The Guardian this morning 🍋.”
This is in reference to Cantona’s famous “seagulls follow the trawler” speech from a 1995 press conference when he took aim at the media.
He said: “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.”
Meanwhile, other football fans were thoroughly amused by Pochettino’s comments.
One replied: “What on earth has happened to this guy?”

However, Klopp was their first choice for the dugout and were even willing to let him continue at Liverpool until June when he would take on the new role full-time.
According to The Telegraph, the German tactician was approached earlier this month to lead his national team ahead of the Euros which take place in his home country this June.
But the 56-year-old ruled himself out of the race as he remains committed to the Reds.
That led to Germany swooping in for Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich last season.

But the 36-year-old’s deal runs out after Euro 2024, which means the German FA could still go back for Klopp.
However, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss appears determined to honour his contract with the Merseysiders, which runs out in 2026.
The Liverpool boss is focused on leading the club’s major rebuild amid an all-time high relationship with club owners the Fenway Sports Group.
The former Mainz manager also praised Nagelsmann’s appointment as a “great solution”.

Klopp told RTL: “We’re building Liverpool 2.0 here, we want to attack again and not just look at how much longer can we go on.
“I have a loyalty to Liverpool. My heart is here in Liverpool. You can’t just cut out the eight years.
“I think Julian is a great solution because he is a great coach. He had already proven at 28 that he is a fantastic coach.
“He has eight years of experience. Others have that at 45 or 50 – at the highest level.” More

Fans online were unhappy with Lockyer, claiming he put Bellegarde in a “leg lock” before making the most of the subsequent kick out.
One wrote: “Absolutely pathetic. The Luton player put him in a leg lock and didn’t allow him to get up what do you expect him to do???”
While a second fumed: “What has happened to the sport I love? You put a dude in a leg lock then simulate pain when he slightly nudges you off?”
Another blasted: “Absolute cheat and even worse player.”
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Luton found themselves 1-0 down just five minutes after the break… with Lockyer at fault.
The central defender was burned for pace by Pedro Neto, who breezed by him before smacking the ball into the net.
Carlton Morris levelled for the home side from the penalty spot on 65 minutes.

Boyd, 40, was watching beloved former side Rangers in Europa League action against Real Betis.
With the Scot – dressed in a turtle-neck and blazer jacket – watching intently, Hendrie interrupted by accusing him of copying his fashion sense.
The former Aston Villa and England star cheekily jibed: “See how Boydy’s getting on.
“I’ve got to say, he has modelled himself on my fashion.

“So can we throw to the best dressed man in Scotland? Look at him, honestly he’s just messaged me asking what shoes I’ve got on.
“Get your own dress sense mate!”
As their fellow panelists laughed, Boyd chimed in: “I’m going to the hairdressers after this to get some highlights as well mate.”
The former Scotland striker then burst out laughing.

If Boyd was pleased with his comeback, he was even more thrilled with Rangers’ result.
Michael Beale’s side went on to grab an impressive 1-0 win courtesy of Abdallah Sima’s 67th minute goal.
Boyd enjoyed incredible success north of the border with Rangers and Kilmarnock during his playing days.

Everton hope to renegotiate Dele Alli transfer deal with Tottenham with brave star working towards return

EVERTON will attempt to renegotiate the deal with Tottenham that brought Dele Alli to the club, says boss Sean Dyche.American firm 777 Partners are currently trying to take over the Toffees, who are enduring difficult times on and off the pitch.
Dele Alli is currently sidelined for Everton after undergoing a groin operationCredit: AFP
Everton are yet to win in the Premier League this term while the financial situation at the club has left Dyche with a threadbare squad to choose from.
The potential return of England international Alli, 27, would no doubt provide a boost to the Blues’ attack after his recent struggles.
However, Dyche has admitted that director of football Kevin Thelwell will probably have to speak with Spurs to try and adjust the terms of the package that brought him to Goodison in January 2022 before he plays again.
Alli, who bravely opened up about being sexually abused as a child and his sleeping pill addiction this summer, has only made 13 appearances for Everton.

The Merseysiders will have to pay Spurs £10million once he plays 20 times – which could cause issues with money tight until the potential takeover is completed.
Alli recently suffered a setback in his attempted comeback from a groin operation when a stitch broke open in training seven weeks ago.
And offering an update on the whole situation, Dyche said the Everton chief will attempt to thrash things out with Spurs that will benefit everybody involved.
Speaking ahead of today’s trip to Brentford, he said: “He is not ready yet, when he’s fit and well I am sure Kev will go to Tottenham and say: ‘Right, how can we make this work for everyone?’

“It has never been at that stage so we have to wait for it.”
On his injury, Dyche added: “He was training with us, warming up and doing the drills, and he strikes the ball and is knocked back to square one. It was a real blow to him.
“He’d had an operation on his groin, they internally stitched it like an anchor inside his body, and one of them popped out having a shot and that was it.
“It was incredibly frustrating because he was feeling great. He is still a bit away yet, nowhere near training with us but is beginning to work with the sports science people.”
Alli checked himself into rehab after excessively drinking and consuming sleeping pills following his nightmare loan spell with Besiktas last season.
The former Mk Dons ace, who scored 51 top-flight goals in 181 matches during his six-and-a-half years at Spurs, said: “Now is the right time for me to tell people what’s been going on.
“It’s tough to talk about because it’s something I’ve hid for a long time. I’m scared to talk about it.
“When I came back from Turkey, I found out I needed an operation. I was in a bad place mentally and I decided to go to a modern-day rehab facility for mental health.
“They deal with addiction and trauma. I felt it was time for me.
