    Mystery as Man Utd send scout to watch Porto despite moving on from top transfer target

    MANCHESTER UNITED sent scouts to watch Porto play, according to reports in Portugal. Porto beat Gil Vicente 2-1 with Ivan Jaime and Eustaquio scoring their goals.

    And they did so in front of United officials, Lisbon-based paper A Bola report.
    It is claimed no player in particular were on the scout’s radar.
    But officials were said to be there spying ahead of the January transfer window.
    Erik ten Hag’s side were heavily linked with Porto keeper Diogo Costa as they looked to replace David de Gea in the summer.

    But they ultimately ended up signing Andre Onana for £47million from Inter Milan instead.
    So it could be unlikely that they were keeping tabs on Costa.
    United have suffered injuries at left-back this season with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out injured.
    They signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham as cover but it is possible United were scouting Porto’s Wendell.

    Another Porto player in-demand is striker Mehdi Taremi, who has been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and United in the past.
    Taremi – who scored against England during the winter World Cup – has two goals in his seven games so far this season.
    United did add to their firing line in the summer with the £72m signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

    And the reporter shared a clip showing her being accompanied by two Gooner friends who donned the Gunners’ jersey.
    Chowdhury posted on Twitter: “North London Derby vibes with the wrong crowd.
    “The bantz is friendly right now. It’s about to turn vicious.”
    However, it was all in good fun and set up a good example of North London rivals coming together.

    Chowdhury said: “So hello hello, off to the North London derby with a couple of mates.
    “Except, the couple of mates are [turns camera on them], look what they’re wearing [Arsenal shirts]. Look what they’re wearing.
    “This is just disgusting, these are like my brothers from other mothers.
    “Do you know what my mum said when I told her I was going with you two [in Bengali]? ‘You’re going with your two enemies?’ Which is basically what we’re doing.

    That was when Chowdhury’s friends started to jokingly boo and cheer for Arsenal.
    But the journalist’s fans rallied behind her on social media ahead of the big game.

    Fans took to social media to react, with one person writing: “Saka showing his savage side by copying Maddison’s celebration.”

    A third commented: “Saka absolutely roasting James Maddison and his celebration. We fully approve!!!”

    Some fans were also quick to point out that Saka also copied Marcus Rashford’s trademark celebration after scoring against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last season.
    Arsenal broke the deadlock in the 26th minute of the match, but they only had an advantage for 16 minutes.
    Just before half time, Maddison broke past Saka on the left before cutting inside and setting the ball to Son Heung-min, who fired the Lilywhites level.

    She posted on X: “Thank you to everyone who tuned into Football Focus your support for such an iconic show means so much to everyone who works across it.
    “Viewing figures double that of anything on TV at that time yesterday.
    “Have a bless Sunday and See you at the Emirates you gunners.”

    Walker was host of Football Focus for 12 years, but he was replaced by Scott in 2021.
    There were reports the iconic show faced the axe after a dramatic drop in viewing figures.
    But the BBC did deny that the fan favourite was at risk of coming to an end.
    Still, Walker posted online: “It’s hard to see Football Focus struggling. I loved it growing up and it was an honour to present it and I still miss it.

    Saka had cut inside from the right before going for goal from the edge of the box.
    However, his effort appeared to be going wide before hitting Romero’s outstretched leg and nestling in the corner.
    Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports, Neville fumed: “That’s the worst thing you could do,” as he reacted to Romero’s error.
    He also went on to add that Romero was “rash wafting his leg at that”.

    The own goal saw the Gunners break the deadlock at the Emirates Stadium, having been kept out by Spurs for the opening 26 minutes.
    Romero was again partnering summer signing Micky van de Ven in central defence for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
    The World Cup winner has started each of Spurs’ matches so far this season.
    He has even chipped in with two goals at the right end, scoring against both Brentford and Burnley already this term.

    According to The Athletic, West Ham have withdrawn their interest in signing the free agent.
    Lingard joined up with David Moyes’ side as he searched for a new club this summer.
    He has been a free agent since his one-year deal with Nottingham Forest expired at the end of June.
    The 30-year-old even featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Ipswich earlier this month.

    Lingard previously spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 matches.
    Wolves had also reportedly been interested in a move for Lingard but a deal never materialised for the former Manchester United star.
    West Ham’s withdrawal of their interest comes with Lingard now in Saudi Arabia to train with Al-Ettifaq.
    He has joined up with Steven Gerrard’s side and is expected to spend a month training with the Saudi Pro League outfit.

    Arsenal fans have now started to brand the club’s current situation as an “injury crisis”.

    Rabiot, 28, joined Juventus in a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and has since made 181 appearances.
