Man Utd fans fume ‘this club is a joke’ after finding out who they snubbed on free transfer this summer

MANCHESTER UNITED fans branded their club “a joke” after learning that Erik ten Hag snubbed a move for Marcus Thuram this summer. The French international was available as a free transfer but joined Inter Milan after the Red Devils declined the offer to sign him.

Thuram, 26, was left unemployed this summer after not renewing his contract at Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach.
He is the son of World Cup winner Lilian and joined Gladbach in 2019 from French outfit Guingamp.
The forward scored 44 goals in 134 appearances during his four-year spell at the German side.
Thuram’s performances in the Bundesliga drew attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including United.

But Ten Hag’s side quickly snubbed a chance to sign him and went for a more “traditional number nine player” in Rasmus Hojlund, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano said: “Marcus Thuram decided to join Inter but was an option for Manchester United last January.
“Thuram was going to be out of contract in the summer and they could have had the opportunity to anticipate a deal in January which United considered.
“But Manchester United thought they needed a different kind of player, a more kind of traditional number nine, and that’s why they decided to go for Rasmus Hojlund.”

However, fans were not impressed when they heard the Red Devils turned down a deal for Thuram and took to social media to express their thoughts.
One fan said: “This club is a joke. He’s a serious baller.”
Another fan added: “The scouting team pathetic and they will miss alot of players.”
A third said: “Man we missed out big time.”
United signed Hojlund for £72million but he missed the first few weeks of the season due to a stress fracture in his back.
But he eventually made his debut in United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal and has since made six appearances, scoring one goal in their 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Thuram has made eight appearances for Inter since signing in July and has scored two goals. More

Liverpool set to appeal Curtis Jones’ red card after controversial defeat to Tottenham

LIVERPOOL are set to appeal Curtis Jones’ controversial red card. The Reds midfielder, 22, was initially shown a yellow for his over-the-ball tackle on Yves Bissouma early on in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Tottenham.

The midfielder went over the ball and caught his opponent on the shinCredit: Sky Sports
But after an on-field VAR review, referee Simon Hooper upgraded the decision to a straight red with the youngster catching the Spurs man on the shin with his studs.
That should see Jones handed a three-match ban – missing October’s Premier League games against Brighton, Everton and Nottingham Forest.
However, Liverpool want a review of the decision in the hope of getting it overturned and are reportedly ready to lodge their official appeal.
Manager Jurgen Klopp was furious at Hooper’s decision and aimed a few words at the official as he brandished the red to the England Under-21 international.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Afterwards, the Kop boss – whose side were reduced to nine men when Diogo Jota picked up two quickfire yellows – fumed: “I never saw a game like this with the most unfair circumstances, crazy decisions.
“The first red card, Curtis steps on the ball and goes over. Not a bad tackle.
“It looks different in slow motion. He steps full throttle on the ball and goes over the ball. That is unlucky.”
Both Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp felt the decision to send Jones off was harsh.

Neville said: “I know when you’re doing someone, I’ve done it myself. He wasn’t there to do someone.
“He’s showing him the end motion which looks bad but that’s not how it’s ended up there. His foot has just slipped over the top of the ball.
“I think he’s gone to try to tackle the ball. It’s not for me a red card.”
Redknapp added: “I think it’s extremely harsh. He’s trying to nick the ball away from Bissouma.
“It doesn’t look good don’t get me wrong but for me it’s not a red card. A yellow card would have sufficed in that situation.”
But football fans on social media do not believe Jones’ punishment will be rescinded.
    ‘GOOD LUCK’
One said: “For the ankle breaker? Good luck with that.”
Another added: “Why on earth would that be overturned.”
A third replied: “That’s not getting overturned. Some said yellow, some said red. It was somewhere in the margins between the two but no one said it was an outrageously wrong decision.”
Klopp and Liverpool’s mood was worsened when Luis Diaz’s opening goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside thanks to a monumental VAR blunder.
VAR Darren England FORGOT to tell Hooper to change the decision and allow the goal to stand in what the PGMOL described as a “significant human error”.
Liverpool released a statement promising to “escalate” the issue as they did not accept the PGMOL’s apology – although the match will not be replayed.

To make matters worse, the Reds were slapped with a £25,000 by The FA for their ill-discipline in North London.

How the world looked the last time Man Utd were this bad with one current player born and Lethal Weapon 2 in cinemas

MANCHESTER UNITED have gotten off to their worst start to a season since 1989.The last time they were this bad Sir Alex Ferguson, long before his days as a knight of the realm, nearly paid with his job.

Erik ten Hag’s crisis club have picked up just nine points from their opening seven matches – slumping to a dismal 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Back in 1989 Ferguson’s men managed just seven points in a period that included a shocking, infamous 5-1 defeat to Manchester City at Maine Road.
The United squad wasn’t short of players that would go on to deliver success at Old Trafford, with the likes of Paul Ince, Bryan Robson, Gary Pallister, Steve Bruce, Bryan McClair and Mark Hughes all there.
But to this point, Ferguson just couldn’t recapture the magic that had seen him shock Real Madrid to win the Cup Winners’ Cup with Aberdeen six years earlier.

While the Red Devils were toiling, just two of their current players were even born.
Jonny Evans was a one-year-old, with veteran back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton three.
Boss Ten Hag, meanwhile, was breaking into the FC Twente side as a 19-year-old and even sported a messy head of dirty blond hair.
His assistant Mitchell van der Gaag was getting his maiden taste of senior football at PSV, while first team coach Steve McClaren was playing in midfield for Oxford United.

Off the pitch, fans were lapping up Ride on Time by Black Box – which was enjoying its fourth of six weeks atop the UK singles chart.
While at the pictures, Lethal Weapon 2 starring Mel Gibson was No1 at the UK Box Office.
Over in Westminster, Margaret Thatcher was in her tenth year in No10, with Neil Kinnock the leader of the opposition.
Around the time of United’s struggles, Thatcher visited Germany just a day after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
It would be her final full year on Downing Street, later being ousted by her own party in 1990 with John Major taking over.

As for Joel Glazer, the current Man United co-owner was fresh out of uni.
He graduated from American University with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in 1989 and would go on to help his dad Malcolm by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995, and United a decade later.

Long before the days of the Glazers, United were owned by Martin Edwards.
In the summer of 1989, Edwards accepted a £20million takeover bid from Michael Knighton.
United’s would-be new owner performed a series of keepie-uppies on the pitch ahead of their 4-1 opening day win over Arsenal.
But his backers soon pulled out, leaving his takeover attempt in tatters.
The triumph over Arsenal was one of just two wins Ferguson’s men accrued in their opening seven games, the other coming courtesy of a Hughes hat-trick in a 5-1 triumph over Millwall.
They drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace, before losing to Derby, Norwich, Everton and City.
Ferguson’s side came 13th in the Prem table and crashed out of the League Cup at the third round stage.

United found solace in the FA Cup, however, with legend having it that Mark Robins’ winner against Nottingham Forest in the third round saved Ferguson’s job in January 1990.
The Red Devils went on to lift the trophy, Fergie’s first at the helm, before embarking on one of the most successful periods in football history – the Scot lifting 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups, four League Cups and a Cup Winners’ Cup.

The Dutchman desperately needs to reinforce his backline with the news that Lisandro Martinez will need an operation on his foot that could keep him out for months.
Harry Maguire’s future at the club remains in doubt while Raphael Varane’s fitness record means more depth is required.
United re-signed veteran defender Jonny Evans in a short-term deal during the summer but are desperate for a long-term option.
And they already have three names on their shortlist, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

He posted: “Manchester United considering to invest on new important defender in 2024 as internal discussion start.
“Todibo remains on the list, Tapsoba and Antonio Silva also tracked by scouts — more names could be added in the next months.”
The Red Devils remain interested in the Bundesliga ace centre-back Tapsoba after summer interest in the Burkina Faso international.
But they may face a battle with rivals Tottenham, who are ready to rekindle their efforts to sign the defender, who they showed an interest in in the summer.

United scouts are also keeping an eye on Silva, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising defenders after breaking into the Benfica team last season.

The pair are joined on the list by 23-year-old former Barcelona ace Todibo, who has made over 100 appearances for French giants Nice since his arrival in 2021.
Ten Hag is on the hunt to make serious changes to his squad after United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday after beating the Eagles 3-0 in the Carabao Cup just a few weeks ago.
They will hope to get back on track when Galatasaray visit Old Trafford on Tuesday night for a Champions League clash. More
