The match was stopped for 13 minutes while the 35-year-old was given oxygen.
Concerned manager Paul Heckingbottom broke protocol by entering the field of play and providing support for his player before the ace was then taken to hospital in distressing scenes.
Sheffield United confirmed that he had undergone surgery this week and now the player has spoken to worried supporters for the first time.

The club shared a picture of Basham giving the thumbs-up from his hospital bed that he had shared on Instagram.
And it came accompanied with a message from that veteran that read: “Had my two surgery’s done now and I can’t thank the surgeons enough for the fast response to me, the first surgery was for cleaning up the wound I suffered and dislocation, the second surgery was to repair the ligaments and to fit a plate on my bone where the fracture was.
“I’m in a cast now and it feel a lot more comfortable. Will be in London still for another few days but then be going home to recover in the right way.”
Basham added: “Trying to stay positive everyday with great family and friends around me. Still overwhelmed by the support I have received. Thank you Bash.”

He spent four years at Bloomfield Road until Sheffield United swooped to sign him in 2014.
He has since gone on to become a legend with the Blades, making over 350 appearances, and helping them to win League One in 2017 before twice being promoted to the Premier League.
He now looks certain to miss at least the rest of the season, which will come as a bitter blow to boss Heckingbottom.

Match of the Day fans could see Gary Lineker in just his pants again as he makes promise to Richards and Shearer

GARY LINEKER has made a promise that he will present Match of The Day in his pants again – on one condition. The presenter famously presented the show back in his underwear in 2016 after Leicester City won the league.

Lineker made the promise to do the show in just his undies if his hometown club won the league earlier that season – when Leicester started off as 5000/1 outsiders to take the title.
The Foxes ended up winning the league that year by a whopping 10 points ahead of their closest title rivals, Arsenal.
Lineker was speaking about the feat on his Match of The day podcast alongside Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
The trio began by talking about how good Leicester were that season with Alan Shearer saying: “They were deadly that season, weren’t they?”
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Lineker then said “I mean Jamie Vardy, that run he had…”
Richards then interjected by saying: “Is that when you came out presenting Match of the Day with your pants on?”
After Lineker explained that he did so after Leicester won the league, Richards asked if he would be doing it anytime soon if Leicester got promoted.
Lineker then made the vague promise: “If Leicester won the league again, I’ll do it.”

But with Lineker vaguely saying won the league, Shearer wondered if he meant the Championship title and said: “Even The Championship?”
Which led to Lineker reiterating that the promise only applied to if Leicester pulled off the miracle of winning the Premier League again.
A disappointed Richards said: “They’re not going to win the Premier League again are they?”

And Lineker quipped back: “Micah, do you want to see me in my pants in my sixties?”
Leicester have made a blistering start to the Championship season under Pep’s former assistant Enzo Maresca.
The club have 10 wins from their opening 11 and already have a 10 point lead on Ipswich, who sit in third outside of the promotion places.
So it looks like if Lineker was to make the promise apply to The Championship, it’s highly likely that viewers would see him in his undies again. More

Harry Maguire fires blunt warning to Man Utd & Ten Hag as he says ‘I won’t sit here my whole life playing once a month’

GARETH SOUTHGATE may not seem to mind either way but Harry Maguire knows his situation at Manchester United cannot go on forever. And if Erik ten Hag continues to limit the defender’s game-time to around a match a month, he will need to have a word with the club about his future.

Maguire completed the full 90 minutes — plus the considerable injury time — in Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford, teeing-up Scott McTominay’s 97th-minute winner.
But the 30-year-old was only selected because other defenders were injured and is set to be back on the bench when the likes of Raphael Varane return to fitness.
England boss Southgate would obviously prefer Maguire to be playing regularly.
But despite his reduced role at Old Trafford, Southgate has once again picked him for his squad for tomorrow’s friendly with Australia and Tuesday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.
    Read More on Man Utd
Yet Maguire is adamant his record under Ten Hag — where he has won 14 of the 18 games he has started during the Dutchman’s reign — is stone-cold evidence of his quality.
And that gives him confidence he can turn it around and still have a future at the Theatre of Dreams.
The centre-back, who joined United from Leicester for £85million in August 2019, said: “I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month.
“If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things.

“But at the moment I am focused on two big games for England.
“And then I am fully focused on fighting to try and win back my place at Manchester United and trying to help the team climb up the league to where we should be.
“I have belief in my ability and what I have done in my career.
“Every player who is on the bench should believe they should be starting otherwise they wouldn’t be playing at a high level.
“I am no different. It has been tough, I want to play games, I want to feel important to the club and to the rest of the team.
“I haven’t been playing nowhere near as much as I would like.
“I just have to make sure I am ready to take the opportunities when they come along.”
After a year of criticism from pundits and fans about his performances — as well as nasty abuse from online trolls — Saturday must have been a strange experience for Maguire.
Instead of the usual sniping, he was widely praised for his performance as an unconvincing United somehow turned it around against the Bees thanks to two injury-time McTominay goals.
And some United fans are now calling on Ten Hag to stick with Maguire, who revealed his gaffer told him “really well done” in the dressing room after the win.
Yet when asked if this can be a turning point for him to get back into the Dutchman’s team regularly, Maguire was unsure.
The former Foxes man — whose transfer to United is still the world-record fee for a defender — said: “It’s not my decision to whether I start the next game or not.
“If you look back on my last 15-20 starts for club and country, I would be happy to sit here and say I’m really happy with my performances.
“My record under this manager speaks for itself. I haven’t started as many games as I like but my win percentage when I’ve played is ridiculously high.
“Of course there are times when I could do more and could improve.
“I can only do what I’ve been doing when I’ve come into the team, bringing positive performances.
“I’ve started two games this season and come on in a few off the bench.
“The manager can only watch training and make his decisions from training in the games when I get the opportunity to play.
“I’ll keep working hard, I’ll keep pushing, I have great belief in myself and I’m sure there will be opportunities to come.”
Maguire would have played more had he left the club in the summer.
West Ham were very interested but the Sheffield-born star revealed it never got as far as him saying yes or no to the Irons because the clubs could not come to an agreement.
Ten Hag may not be convinced by Maguire but Southgate’s faith in him could not be stronger.
In fairness, he has rarely let Southgate down with his England performances and will hope to repay that loyalty again tomorrow if selected against the Aussies.
This week it was revealed England will co-host Euro 2028.

Maguire will be 35 by then so likely not in the reckoning — but his passion for his country means he will be involved in some capacity.
He added: “I’ll either be in the stands with my mates having a few pints or in the squad, helping the lads.”

Romelu Lukaku reveals he felt like he might ‘explode’ during nightmare summer amid Chelsea transfer saga

Lukaku is now with Roma and in sparkling form with seven goals in eight games and there are plans for a permanent deal at the end of the season.
But speaking ahead of Belgium’s clash with Austria, he said: “Most people in this room know me. You know that I don’t like to beat around the bush.
“I will speak when the time is right, but if I told you how things really went last summer, everyone would be shocked.
“There were moments when I felt like I could explode and five years ago I probably would’ve done.

“Now I am concentrating only on what I can do best, which is playing football. I worked hard all summer.
“I was a bit uncomfortable after the Champions League final but my mind was troubled because of what happened in the days leading up to it. I will talk about that later.”
Lukaku cost Chelsea a then club-record £97.5million two years ago but will likely be offloaded for around £40m next summer.
He was never settled back in London and upset then Blues boss Thomas Tuchel by giving an unauthorised interview about his frustrations with tactics.

He is reunited with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital.
Lukaku said: “As I have said in the past, the coach and I have a special relationship.
“He knows my family, he knows my children. He is someone I trust, as he has in me. He is also tough, as other coaches have been in the past, but it’s the only way I can grow as a player.’
Lukaku, 30, revealed he was one of a number of leading stars targeted by the Saudi Pro League in the summer.
Neymar, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez and a list of vastly experienced players are enjoying massive paydays in the Arabian desert.
Lukaku said: “I was honoured by their interest, but after the conversations we had, I was not completely convinced.
“The league will become one of the biggest in the world, but I didn’t want to leave Europe yet.
“I knew full well what was going to happen this summer and there were a few clubs I certainly would not go to.
“Ultimately, you have to consider what happened in recent years on a football and personal level, which is why I made my choice.
“I don’t like to talk too much off the field, but sometimes it’s good to tell people what really happened and what didn’t.

Ian Wright urges Arsenal to make big-money transfer for £80m-rated star who is the ‘last piece in the jigsaw’

IAN WRIGHT has urged Arsenal to sign Ivan Toney as he believes the striker is the “last piece in the jigsaw” for the Gunners squad. The Brentford star will not come cheap though as the Bees have slapped an £80million price tag on him.

Toney, 27, is currently serving an eight-month suspension for breaching betting regulations.
The forward returned to training last month but is not able to play competitively until January 17.
However, the Bees have rated their star man at £80million with Toney’s contract not due to expire until summer 2025.
But Arsenal legend Wright feels bringing Toney to North London is the key to helping the club take the final step to winning major titles this season.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
He said on the Stick to Football podcast by Sky Bet: “You know the thing with the way we play and how we spread goals about last season.
“Yes it took us to a certain place but I don’t think the Toney links will go away.
“I believe that Arsenal in what we’re trying to do now – the margins are so small now – you cannot afford to miss those chances and not win those games.
“The Toney links don’t go away because you can see that’s probably the last bit in the jigsaw.
    Most read in Premier League
“It’s obvious for everyone to see that this is the last piece. He will do it if it can be done.”
But Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham may join the race for the Bees main man, according to the Daily Mail.
A great sign for the Gunners is that Toney is keen on a move to the Emirates, meaning they are in prime position to snatch his signature, the report claims.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have led the line for the Gunners this season but have scored just three Premier League goals between them.
And Mikel Arteta is said to be aware of the goal deficiency in the team and claims Toney “ticks a lot of boxes” for the Spaniard despite his hefty price tag.
If the Gunners make the big-money transfer in January this will most definitely affect their summer spending next year.
But Wright’s pal Roy Keane vowed on the podcast that the Gunners need to recruit a striker now to the squad to take the top of the table.
He said: “Arsenal can win the league, but they would need that striker. It’s great when you’re watching a team that can play.” More
