Blunder VAR officials Darren England and Daniel Cook’s Premier League return confirmed after Liverpool shambles

VAR blunder officials Darren England and Daniel Cook are returning to Premier League duty this weekend. The duo hit the headlines last month following their glaring error in the clash between Tottenham and Liverpool.

England and Cook were the VAR and VAR assistant when Liverpool forward Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside as the Merseysiders went on to lose 2-1.
The Colombian international thought he’d put the visitors in the lead in the 34th minute with a nifty finish just inside the 18-yard box.
However, on-field ref Simon Hooper and VAR official England bizarrely ruled out the goal with Cook also failing to intervene – despite replays clearly showing Diaz was onside.
Prem chiefs came down hard on VAR man for the day England and VAR assistant Cook by removing them from their next proposed outing – Nottingham Forest vs Brentford earlier this month.

But the pair are both returning for the next round of fixtures after weeks in the spotlight.
England is fourth official for Brentford’s home game against Burnley on Saturday.
Cook will be assistant referee for Sheffield United’s match against Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Hooper is the designated VAR for Newcastle’s clash with Crystal Palace.

The expletive filled audio of the VAR gaffe behind Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal was released after the farce.
The clip reveals VAR officials England and assistant Cook drew the lines showing that Diaz was onside.
The indication was then given by the officials that the check was complete, with on-field referee Hooper heard saying: “Well done boys good process.”
However, the officials then realised play had resumed without the correct call being made on field after the replay operator queried the decision.
Upon being asked again by the replay operator about the outcome of the decision, the VAR team then became aware the incorrect call had been made.
Assistant video referee Cook then backs this up by saying: “That’s wrong Daz.”
Upon realising the error, England be heard saying: “Oh ****.”
The replay operator can be heard requesting to delay the game, but since it had already resumed there was no way to pull it back.
England can be heard saying: “I can’t do anything”, before swearing once again.
PGMOL chief Howard Webb explained why VAR failed to rectify the clear mistake during an episode of Match Officials: Mic’d Up.

He said that England “lost sight of what the on-field decision was” after going through his processes “pretty quickly” and claimed that efficiency is key but “not at the sacrifice of accuracy”.
Webb also then confirmed that the laws of the game, as set out by Fifa and IFAB, did not allow the officials to intervene to rectify the mistake. More

England boss Gareth Southgate had 25 players for the final training session but only 23 can be named in match-day squads.
Nketiah made his debut in England’s 1-0 friendly win over Australia on Friday, coming on as a substitute for match-winner Ollie Watkins.
Tomori – who left Chelsea for Milan in 2021 – has made four senior Three Lions appearances.

And tonight’s match gives Southgate’s side another chance to avenge their heartbreaking Euros final loss in 2021.
But Southgate – who led England to World Cup quarters last winter – claimed he is a better manager for the heartache.
He said: “You are managing big matches all the time in one of the most high-profile jobs in football, so of course, like every manager, you are improving every day.
“I’m sure every coach would be saying they are better than six months ago; they know more, are more experienced and have encountered more situations.

“I hadn’t managed a European final before, so the next one I am in I will have another reference and you have more experience.
“It’s as simple as that. You can only gain experience by being in those moments.
“People have asked what I would do differently that night but if I had done something differently I don’t know how that would have played out.
“You make decisions with the information you have at a given time and it’s played out in front of everybody.
“Everybody can then, in hindsight, say what should have happened but that tape is never played and nobody really knows the answer.”

Chelsea in major stadium breakthrough as they BUY 1.2 acres of land next to Stamford Bridge for £80m

CHELSEA have received a huge boost in their quest to transform Stamford Bridge into one of the world’s best stadiums. The Premier League giants have purchased the majority of a 1.2 acre site next to Stamford Bridge from the Stoll Foundation.

Chelsea are believed to have paid around £80million to secure the land, which they won’t take possession of until 2025.
However, we reported last month how the stadium revamp was put on hold after old soldiers declared war on the plan that could leave them homeless.
The land that Chelsea wanted included the historic Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions where around 100 military veterans and war widows live and fuming vets applied for an injunction to stop the Stoll charity trustees who run the block from selling it.
However, that has proven to be unsuccessful after Stoll confirmed the sale today.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
A statement from them read: “The Board of Trustees for Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for veterans, has made a final decision, following resident consultation, to sell the majority of its Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions site in Fulham to the Chelsea FC ownership group. The sale is subject to contract with completion expected in early 2024.
“The Board of Trustees received 13 bids which were reviewed over a period of six months. Today’s announcement follows a nine week consultation with residents, the responses to which were taken into account by the Board, along with other considerations, before making its final decision.
“The Board carefully considered refurbishing the site or rebuilding part of it, and concluded that any refurbishment would require funds that the charity simply does not currently have, and would also require current residents to leave their homes.
“The sale will enable Stoll to establish new properties which would provide higher quality, more sustainable housing with greatly improved grounds, accommodation and facilities, while also securing the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation and enhancing its services to veterans. Stoll will retain 20 flats on the Fulham site.”

Stoll’s statement continued: “The resident consultation report clearly showed the need to enhance resident support services throughout this process, which Stoll is doing as a matter of priority.
“The charity will organise additional 1-2-1 and group meetings for residents with Stoll staff and Board of Trustees to ensure residents remain informed as the sale process proceeds.
“Residents will not have to leave their homes straight away; the offer includes a leaseback period, meaning that the land would be temporarily given back to Stoll after completion of the sale.
“This will allow the charity to support residents to move to alternative, suitable accommodation.”
The Sun revealed previously that the Blues have committed to a massive redevelopment of their current home that ended fears they would relocate to a new stadium.
American owner Boehly, who bought the Premier League outfit last year for £4.25billion, made promises to the stadium freeholder to expand the ground rather than move the club to a new location.
Now he and Clearlake have secured the land next to their ground and can start to push ahead with their plans.
    PREVIOUS PLANS TO MOVE
Chelsea had appointed a committee to look at potential new locations and had considered a shock move to a 60,000-seater stadium in Earl’s Court.
A switch to Earl’s Court, where the Exhibition Centre once stood, was previously explored under Roman Abramovich with land at a premium around Stamford Bridge.
However, that idea was abandoned in 2010 when Hammersmith and Fulham Council squashed the idea.
Abramovich also looked at a potential relocation to Battersea Power Station and made a bid to buy it 2012 as he plotted to keep the building’s four chimneys as part of a design which included a 15,000 seat single-tier south stand.
But that plan ended when a Malaysian consortium bought the site for £400m.
    NEW GRAND DESIGNS
Now Chelsea want to build a new 60,000-capacity ground to keep up with their rivals commercially with the new owners hoping for a staged rebuild of the Bridge, with the stands replaced and upgraded one by one.
That transformation would also see the hotel behind the Shed End bulldozed.
    Read More on The Sun
Architect Janet Marie Smith, who has worked on a host of stadium renovations in America, has been hired to oversee the monumental task of rebuilding Chelsea’s famous ground.
Smith’s projects include Baltimore’s Oriole Park, Atlanta’s Olympic Stadium, the Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium in LA. More

The Red Devils looked like they were on the ropes as they trailed Brentford 1-0 going into added time last time out.
But Scott McTominay’s late one-two punch salvaged an incredible three points, much to the relief of Ten Hag.
The truth remains that United are yet to produce a convincing performance this season.
If they could pick any fixture to have in a time of difficulty, however, they would probably choose this one.

Sheffield United have suffered a wretched start to life back in the Premier League.
Having gone their first four games without a win, Paul Heckingbottom’s side thought they were just moments away from a huge triumph against Tottenham last month.
Spurs subsequently produced the latest comeback in Prem history to win, with the Blades being hammered 8-0 by Newcastle the following week.
They have since lost to West Ham and Fulham and sit rock bottom of the table with just one point from eight games.

Should Man Utd fail to win this one, storm clouds may begin to swarm around manager Ten Hag.
But the Red Devils should surely have enough to beat their struggling Yorkshire opponents.
    What is their form like?
Man Utd’s form leading up to the international break was patchy at best.
McTominay’s late, late show saw them scrape past Brentford 2-1 after they had been beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Prior to that, Ten Hag’s men had slumped to a 1-0 home loss to Crystal Palace.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, have been dreadful and are yet to win a game this term.
Since their 8-0 hammering by Newcastle they have been soundly beaten by West Ham and Fulham on the road.

What is the team news and any injuries to worry about?
Paul Heckingbottom will continue to deal with a lengthy list of absentees and Chris Basham’s horrific ankle injury did not help the Sheffield United boss’ woes.
Ben Osborn (groin), John Egan (ankle), Tom Davies (muscle), Daniel Jebbison (muscle), Rhys Norrington-Davies (hamstring), Max Lowe (ankle), William Osula (knock) and George Baldock are all doubts for this huge encounter.
Elsewhere, Ten Hag has a few injury issues of his own as this match has come too soon for Lisandro Martinez (foot), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (hamstring), Amad Diallo (knee), Kobbie Mainoo (ankle), Tyrell Malacia (muscle) and Luke Shaw (muscle).
However, the United boss will be delighted to welcome the potential returns of Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon.
But there is still no confirmation on when Jadon Sancho will play for the Red Devils again.

Who will be the star men?
Summer signing Gustavo Hamer has been a shining light for Sheffield United this season.
The Brazilian, recruited from Coventry in August, has scored in matches against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.
Man Utd, meanwhile, found an unlikely hero in McTominay.
The Scotland star scored an amazing late double against Brentford and will surely be rewarded with a start this time around.
McTominay will also be buoyed by Scotland’s qualification for Euro 2024 and should be oozing with confidence.
Gus Hamer has been a shining light for the Blades
Scott McTominay was the hero of the hour against Brentford
    SunSport prediction?
Despite their poor displays this term, Man Utd should surely have too much for their struggling opponents on Saturday evening.
SunSport predicts: Sheffield United 1 Man Utd 2
When is Sheffield United vs Man Utd?

What TV channel is it on and can it be live streamed?

Sheffield United vs Manchester United will be broadcast LIVE on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Man Utd fans in meltdown after learning how Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25% takeover will affect January transfer plans

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left raging after finding out Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent takeover of the club will NOT have an impact on their transfer spending.Sheikh Jassim’s withdrawal of his £5billion bid for complete control of the Red Devils appears to have paved the way for British billionaire Ratcliffe, 70, to purchase a minority stake at Old Trafford.

The deal will leave the Glazers in charge of the club – an unpopular move among Man Utd supporters.
And they have been further enraged by claims that Ratcliffe’s involvement will not lead to any kind of spending spree.
According to The Guardian, the Ineos businessman’s takeover will not change Man Utd’s ability to spend in the transfer market.
This was unwelcome news to fans on social media – who believe Ratcliffe’s investment will go straight to the Glazers.
