    Ratcliffe tipped for bigger stake
Sir Jim Ratcliffe could pursue a bigger stake in United after a few years if his bid for an initial 25% share goes through.
That’s the view of Dr Rob Wilson, a football finance expert and professor of economics at Sheffield Business School, as Ratcliffe moves closer to a deal with current club owners the Glazers.
Dr Wilson told investment platform Saxo: “The Ratcliffe bid comes down to the basics of finance. The Glazers clearly want more than the perceived market value of Manchester United Football Club and it presents the idea that Sheikh Jassim’s [reported £6billion] bid was undervaluing the organisation.
“The Ratcliffe bid allows Jim to have a smaller investment at this stage and then look at using his knowledge investment to see where the club can go in the next five years, and I imagine he will then be able to take a bigger stake as things unfold.
“A lot will also depend on sporting and financial performance of the organisation and requirements for any stadium, redesign, maintenance or re-development.”
    Hurdles remain over Ratcliffe deal
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid for a 25% share in United still has significant stumbling blocks.
The Ineos owners hopes to control the sporting side and has reportedly voiced his concerned over the Red Devils’ transfer policies in recent years – such as Casemiro’s costly arrival in his 30s.
Ratcliffe is the only bidder left after Sheikh Jassim baulked at the “outlandish” £6billion valuation of United made by current owners the Glazers.
Issues that need resolving are thought to include how Ineos are represented on the Red Devils’ board and how the different groupings would work together.
That means more talks before any investment can go ahead.
Bat blow hits Red Devils for six
Sofyan Amrabat has become the latest Manchester United star to suffer an injury.
The Morocca midfielder was forced to withdraw from international duty this week.

Amrabat was a notable absentee from the 3-0 win over Liberia 3-0.
And he also missed Morocco’s friendly with the Ivory Coast on Saturday.
Al Ayam say the on-loan United midfielder was not involved due to an unspecified injury.
That makes him a serious doubt for Saturday’s Prem trip to  Sheffield United.
    VDB is ‘role model’
Ex-United defender Paul Parker claims Old Trafford outcast Donny van de Beek is a “role model” who can teach his squad-mates plenty.
But the former England star claims the ex-Ajax midfielder was “treated bad” by ex-United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and should move back to Holland.
    Credit: Kenny Ramsay
Parker told SpilXperten: “I feel really, really sorry for Donny van de Beek even though I’m sure he wouldn’t want me to feel sorry for him.
“I’m sure that not many bad words will be said about him when he leaves, because people are more disappointed by the outcome of his potential rather than the way he has acted at Man United.”
“It would have been so easy for him to go on Social Media and moan but he has never done that. Other players can learn a lot from him, despite him not being able to get his breakthrough at Man United. He is a role model.”
Parker added: “Solskjaer treated him bad with keeping him on the bench all the time. Obviously, it was a tough time for everyone in the world during the pandemic, but maybe even more for him.”
“He might be as low as he has ever been in football. The only place, in my opinion, where he can start again, is back in the Netherlands. He has to go back to the Netherlands.”
“People are saying that he has been given the chance but that’s not true. He has been given two minutes here and there, which doesn´t help him. He would love the opportunity to get away from Manchester United.”
    Man Utd star nearing exit
Anthony Martial has MONTHS to show his worth or risk walking away from Manchester United.
The Frenchman, who has a contract until the end of the season plus a one-year option, endured an injury-hit campaign last season.
Martial has slipped behind summer signing Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order this season, scoring one goal in nine appearances.
And according to recent reports, Erik Ten Hag and United are unsure whether to extend Martial’s contract.
United are keeping their options open with the French striker, with much depending on how he performs between now and the end of the season.
But his only goal this season was in the EFL Cup victory at home to Crystal Palace.
As such, they could let the big-money signing walk away from the club for free next summer.
    Man United stars’ initiations revealed
Mason Mount and Andre Onana both performed their initiation songs during Manchester United’s summer trip to Las Vegas, according to reports.
The summer arrivals both joined the Red Devils in time to link up with their US pre-season tour.
As is customary for new players, they both got up in front of their new team-mates to belt out a tune.
Mount’s Sin City performance has so far been kept under wraps.
According to the Mail, however, Onana’s song choice has been revealed.
They claim that the Cameroon star performed his favourite tune Alleluia by French group Les Medecins de Medeline.
    Man Utd legend mocked online
Gary Neville was savagely mocked by Jamie Carragher for his choice of jacket ahead of his interview with Eddie Hearn on Stick to Football.
Neville, 48, recently created the new YouTube show alongside Sky Sports colleague Carragher, as well as Roy Keane, Jill Scott and Ian Wright.
Neville was seen chatting to Hearn as Carragher entered the frame.
And he was quick to comment on the black and white jacket Neville had chosen to wear for the broadcast.
The Liverpool legend said: “What the f*** is that? Where’s he got this?”
Neville initially laughed it off, replying: “It’s a bit of product replacement.”
Carragher continued: “Is it Off-White? It’s offside.”

    Maguire compared with David Beckham
Dimitar Berbatov believes that Harry Maguire can have a Man United redemption story like David Beckham.
The former forward told Betfair: “Harry Maguire was good against Brentford. The only thing he can do is stay concentrated when given the chance to perform and not make silly mistakes.
“When he speaks, you can see that Harry is confident in his ability, when he was given the captains armband, his confidence obviously increased, but so did his ego.
“Now the captain’s armband has been taken away, his ego is hurt. He needs to start rebuilding his relationship with the fans again. The chance is there for him to show he can handle everything again.
“Maybe, like we saw in the Beckham documentary, Harry is going through that tough time right now but hopefully, in the end he can find redemption at the end of his own movie.”
    Former star on Ten Hag
Dimitar Berbatov believes that Erik ten Hag CAN handle big egos – contrary to what Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks.
He told Betfair: “I heard Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s comments about Ten Hag not being able to handle the egos at the club. In big teams like Man United, it’s impossible not to have big egos.
“Even as a player, if you don’t already have one, once you sign for a club like Man United, you’re going to get an ego. When you’re a manager of a team like Man United, you need to know to handle it.
“Back in the day, I was in a United team with plenty of egos, trust me. But then you had Sir Alex, and he knew how to control it all. He built his authority throughout the years with his success and his principles of how the club should be lead.
“Obviously, Ten Hag doesn’t have 20 years of experience with Man United, he has one. Having said that, I think he has the authority. He’s shown it before with Cristiano Ronaldo, and now Jadon Sancho.”
    Berba: Rooney wants United job
Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov reckons his former team-mate and new Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney wants to manage the Red Devils one day.
He told Betfair: Wayne was waiting for an opportunity like the one at Birmingham and he’s taken it straight away. He was preparing for something like this whilst he was in America.
I’m pretty sure he’s preparing for the top job because that’s the ultimate goal.
“When you have someone like Wayne, you can’t think he’ll stay at a smaller club all his life and manage them, he’s building step by step and I respect that.
“He’s climbing the managerial ladder right now I’m sure at one stage he will go for the Man United job. I think he’s preparing for the day his phone rings and he’s told that Man United are waiting for him.
“I’ll be curious as to how he does. I’ll be watching. It’s good to have John O’Shea by your side going into battle because I’ve been there with both of them and I know the connection they have.”
    Pellistri helps Uruguay beat Brazil

    Rashford on song for country
Marcus Rashford scored a brilliant goal for England last night.
The Man United forward was handed a start by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
With the score level at 1-1, Rashford arrowed a brilliant 57th minute shot into the back of the net.
Harry Kane went on to extend England’s advantage, with Rashford playing the full 90 minutes of the 3-1 win.

    Red Devils old boy update
Angel Di Maria has announced his retirement date from the Argentina national team will be after Copa America 2024.
The Manchester United flop expressed his gratitude to team-mate Lionel Messi, saying “I’m grateful to have seen you every day” at Paris Saint-Germain.
Di Maria told Todo Pasa: “I will leave Argentina national team after Copa America — it’s over for me.”
In 2014 Di Maria signed for Manchester United from Real Madrid in a then-British record deal worth £59.7 million.
But he would spend just one year at Old Trafford, later complaining about the bad weather and calling Louis van Gaal the “worst coach” he has ever had.

    Rasmus Hojlund on injury fears
Rasmus Hojlund has claimed San Marino “targeted” him after he was substituted by Denmark during their Euro 2024 qualifer amid injury fears.
The Manchester United forward, 20, was replaced in stoppage time at the end of his country’s 2-1 win over the minnows on Tuesday night.
Hojlund, who suffered a back injury at the beginning of the season, then gave his take as he accused the San Marino players of carrying out a planned attack on him.
He said: “I feel they targeted me, as you can see at the end. I understand Italian and I could hear them saying that they had the idea to crush me.
“You can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind.”

    Red Devils starlet left out
Alejandro Garnacho was an unused substitute as Argentina beat Peru 2-0 last night.
The Red Devils starlet travelled to South America to link up with the world champions at the start of the international break, but also failed to get on in their previous match against Paraguay.
This season, Garnacho has been limited to just five minutes of action for Argentina, coming last month against Bolivia.
He will hope for more opportunities to shine when back at United.

    Red Devils takeover latest news
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.35billion 25 per cent takeover of Manchester United has been delayed, according to reports.
The 70-year-old’s bid was initially expected to be given the green light in a Red Devils board meeting this week.
Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the race last week, clearing the path for Ratcliffe to agree a minority stake with the Glazer family.
But according to the Telegraph, there are still finer details with Ratcliffe’s bid that need to be ironed out.
They claim that a deal is still expected within the next fortnight, however, with Ratcliffe keen to get started.
The Ineos chief wants to be granted control of football operations at United.
He is hoping to have attained control ahead of the January transfer window.

    Man Utd star captains country
Scott McTominay wore the captain’s armband as Scotland faced France last night.
In the absences of usual skippers Andy Robertson and John McGinn, the Manchester United star was awarded the honour of captaining his country for the first time.
Things got off to a bright start for the experimental Scots as they took the lead in Lille via Billy Gilmour.
But two goals by Benjamin Pavard and efforts by Kylian Mbappe and Kingsley Coman consigned Steve Clarke’s side to a 4-1 defeat.

Manchester United are interested in Benfica star Joao Neves, according to reports.
According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are lining up a move for the 19-year-old at the end of the season.
Neves replaced Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez in Benfica’s first team.
But he is unlikely to leave in January as the Argentine star did.

    No Scott McTominay rush
Manchester United are in no rush to sell Scott McTominay ahead of the January transfer window.
McTominay was available in the summer transfer window with West Ham and Fulham interested.
However, a move did not materialise as the Hammers and the Cottagers held onto Lucas Paqueta and Joao Pahlinha respectively.
According to 90min, United would still be willing to sell the Scotland international if they received the right offer.
However, the Red Devils are in no rush now after the 26-year-old’s match-winning goals against Brentford.

    More on U-turn
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani pulled out of the takeover race over the weekend after almost 12 months of work to buy Manchester United.
Sheikh Jassim’s representatives had even been to Carrington to meet director of football John Murtough to get insight into how United were being run on the playing side, writes SunSport’s Neil Custis.
The Qatari delegation, just like second bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, were said to have been impressed and neither were looking to radically shake things up.
Ratcliffe is now left as the sole bidder and that is just for 25 per cent of the club for £1.4billion with a condition he can oversee football operations.
A board vote on Thursday will decide whether to accept Sir Jim’s official bid.
The news that there will be no full sale has dramatically hit the Red Devils’ share price with it down 11 per cent in early trading on Monday.
    Man Utd takeover U-turn
Manchester United senior staff have been left stunned by the takeover U-turn, reports SunSport’s Neil Custis.
United employees had been gearing up for a full buy-out of the club this month by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
A number of staff had even been told not to book any annual leave for this month to help see the takeover through.
Meetings were still going on last week to try and rescue Sheikh Jassim’s bid which was for a 100 per cent sale at £5billion.
It is understood a number of the six strong Glazer family who are on the Red Devils’ board were happy to sell.
But co-chairman Joel Glazer, who was in control of the process, was the one wanting to either keep a majority shareholding or accept an increased bid of £6bn from the Qatari banker.
Sheikh Jassim could turn to Tottenham
Sheikh Jassim could launch a bid to buy Tottenham after withdrawing his Manchester United takeover offer, according to reports.
The Qatari has been linked with purchasing a Premier League club since his interest in the Red Devils was first made public.
Sheikh Jassim is understood to have submitted a £5billion offer to purchase United – which he has now withdrawn after months of stalemate.
Rival bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to buy a 25 per cent stake in the club for around £1.4billion.
And Sheikh Jassim could now turn his attention to Spurs, as reported by The Mirror.
    Casemiro back in training
Casemiro is back in Brazil training ahead of their clash against Uruguay tomorrow.
The United midfielder picked up a knock against Brentford and was touch and go to play for Brazil.
But he is now expected to play a role in the friendly and could be back for the Sheffield United game.

    Ratcliffe to bring about change
The Telegraph have reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be a “hands off investor” should his 25 per cent stake in Manchester United be approved.
An INEOS insider told the paper: “Ratcliffe is not going to buy part of the club and then sit back and hope things improve without changing anything. He will not be a passive investor.””
Ratcliffe will learn if his takeover is approved on Thursday when the Manchester United board are due to meet.

    United cancel Fans Advisory meeting
Manchester United have cancelled their latest Fans Advisory Board meeting while the sale of 25 per cent of the club goes through to Jim Ratcliffe.
The board had this to say to The Daily Mail: “Following the start of that process there are tight legal and regulatory restrictions on what we can say about the strategic review.
“It would not be appropriate or productive for the owners to participate in these [Fans’ Forum] meetings when they are not able to talk about the main issue that fan representatives would naturally wish to question them on.”
    Victor Lindelof statement
Victor Lindelof has released a statement condemning the terrorist attacks that took place in the lead up to Belgium vs Sweden.
Sweden’s match with Belgium was abandoned at half-time after two Sweden fans were shot dead before the game.
Lindelof had this to say in a statement on his Instagram: “I’m shocked and devastated by the terrible incidents in Brussels with the cold-hearted attacks on our fellow Swedes.
“I’m lost for words for the cruelty and inhumanity, I want to send my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those affected. At the same time, my thoughts go out to all the supporters in Belgium last night, no one should ever go to a game of football and feel unsafe when supporting their team.”

    INEOS conflicts of interest?
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS already have a deal in place with another Premier League side in the form of sponsorship.
INEOS Grenadier, a car designed by the company is an official partner of Tottenham Hotspur.
However, there is a feeling that the deal can remain in place without causing a conflict of interest.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is reportedly in favour of Jim Ratcliffe’s overhaul of Manchester United’s football operations.

Ten Hag is in favour of this having been left frustrated with the club’s transfer policy so far.
    Ratcliffe changes
Senior figures at Manchester United have been left fearing for their roles following the prospective deal for Jim Ratcliffe to buy 25 per cent of the club.
The positions of Richard Arnold, the chief executive, and John Murtough, the director of football, are both thought to be under particular scutiny.
With Ratcliffe set to take care of football operations at the club, it is expected that his first move as the executive will be to bring in a new director of football.
    Ratified
Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of 25 per cent of Manchester United is set to be ratified by the board on Thursday, according to The Times.
The board are set to meet to approve the £1.3billion deal.
It is likely to take another eight weeks for the deal to be completed, with Ratcliffe also required to undergo the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test before he can officially join the board.
Other names in the frame for Ratcliffe
Ratcliffe is considering a number of names for the sporting director role should his 25 per cent purchase of United go through.
Other names in the mix are former Liverpool chief of recruitment Michael Edwards and former Spurs and Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell.

Blanc recently joined the board of Ineos, and his closeness with Ratcliffe could see him sounded out for the job.
Van Gaal made Bayern stars cry, says chief
A former Bayern Munich chief has claimed that Louis van Gaal made stars cry with his “merciless” criticism and “insane presence” while in charge.
Christian Nerlinger told Bild: “His analysis were respectful and not offensive, but so hard that one or two players even cried.
“Deficiencies were pointed out mercilessly, every bad pass was discussed.”
That led to players no longer wanting to take risks on the pitch as Nerlinger said they “were afraid that the bad passes would be dissected the next day”. More

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE could press Manchester United to overhaul their transfer policy after reportedly criticising the signing of Casemiro. The INEOS owner is expected to land a 25% share in the club after rival bidder rival Sheikh Jassim pulled out of the running for a buy-out.

And The Guardian say Ratcliffe has told United of his concerns over their spending tactics in recent years.
It’s claimed the childhood Red Devils’ fan was particularly alarmed by the huge fee and wages involved in Casemiro’s arrival from Real Madrid.
United paid £60million for the Brazil anchorman, now 31, in August 2022.
And the 73-cap star is on a four-year deal worth around £350,000 a week.

United’s board are due to vote on the entrepreneur’s offer for a quarter of the club on Thursday.

But after the game, Liverpool star Van Dijk – who scored the winner from the penalty spot – was fuming with the state of the pitch.
The centre-back lambasted the “terrible” state of AEK Athens’ ground and suggested that shouldn’t be allowed “at this level”.
Van Dijk said: “Have you seen the pitch? Terrible. It’s unbelievable that this is still allowed at this level.”
Hoffenheim star Weghorst took it up a notch by claiming that was the “worst pitch” he has ever played on.

The Burnley loanee, who had an unsuccessful stint at Manchester United last season, even claimed there were stones on the grass.
Weghorst said: “This was the worst pitch I have ever played football on.
“We knew it wouldn’t be an easy game here, given the conditions and the way the opposition played. The pressure was there.
“Not so much from the crowd, but mainly from the pitch which was very bad. There were stones on it. The conditions were difficult.”

The manager of Grassform Antonis Grimotsis, who supervises football pitches in the Greek Superleague, addressed Van Dijk and Weghorst’s claims.
Grimotsis stated that the turf at OPAP Arena is being reseeded, which is annual procedure that takes place when the season is paused and UEFA as well as the two teams were fully aware.
He posted on Facebook: “The pitch at OPAP Arena is in the process of being reseeded, of which the organising authority, the Dutch national team and of course the Greek national team are aware.
“It is a regular, annual procedure that takes place at the break of the championship, it’s just that in our case it doesn’t exist.

But he only played three times for his new side before Tuesday’s statement.
A post read: “Mainz have relieved Anwar El Ghazi of his training and matchday-related duties.
“The decision comes as a result of a since-deleted social media post from the 28-year-old that appeared on Sunday evening.
“In the post, El Ghazi took a position on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that was deemed unacceptable by the club.

“Prior to making this decision, the club and the player had engaged in an in-depth discussion.
“Mainz respect the fact that there are varying perspectives on the decades-long, complex conflict in the Middle East.

I’m an ex-Premier League star – now I own a luxury holiday resort in a tropical jungle with my former MTV presenter wife

But he is certainly living his best life as he runs a luxury holiday resort in the Belize tropical jungle with his former MTV presenter wife.
Andy and Simone swapped South London for Belize in 2001, months after Hunt’s final game for Charlton.
They sold their Greenwich home and purchased a property – then in 2005 decided to open the Belize Jungle Dome to the public.
Now more than 20 years from first touching down on that first visit, the couple are still based in Central America, more than 5,200 miles from Hunt’s Essex hometown of West Thurrock and where temperatures average mid-20s all year round.

The ex-forward said: “I’d had enough of football and to be honest I’d had enough of the British weather.
“Me and my girlfriend at the time started looking around and we really liked Belize.
“We visited the country and spent some time there. We found a property, bought it, sold the house in England and came out.
“We decided to set up our own business over here in 2005.

“It’s the most idyllic place and tourists can come out here and explore the ancient mines and the caves.
“There’s horseback riding, zip-lining along with waterfalls and wildlife rehabilitation centres.
“On the coast there are so many beautiful islands where you can go scuba diving and snorkelling.
“We bought a big property, which we turned into rooms, we also built a four-bedroom villa next to it then another three-bedroom place next to that, as well as three acres of land.
    “It’s going great.
“Our lodge is about an hour and a half inland, so we organise things for tourists and we take them here, there and everywhere.”
The Hunts’ stunning complex is described as a “true tropical paradise” for couples, families and individuals alike – and promises the holiday of a lifetime.
Guests can make the most of the stunning tree-top cafe, beautiful swimming pool, river-side BBQs, football facilities and even a nearby zoo before retreating to their colourful rooms.

And the in-house chef rustles up plenty of gorgeous dishes, including a host of local Belizean dishes using ingredients grown in the on-site garden.
The hotel also has links with local companies that provide tours and day trips, including along the Belize River through the rainforest.
Prices for an all-inclusive package range from £736pp for a three-night stay to a whopping £3,325pp for the 14-night reefs and rainforest trip.
But visitors are clearly delighted with the Belize Jungle Dome, with the Hunts’ holiday resort earning rave reviews on Tripadvisor.
It is ranked the No1 B&B in Belmopan, with a stunning five-star rating from 339 reviews.
One guest said: “Our stay at the Jungle Dome was absolutely fabulous. Simone and Andy are simply the best hosts. The riverside location also offers a substantial-sized pool and an immersive experience of nature at its finest.”
Another commented: “Everything about the stay was perfect. They always made sure we had everything we needed. I have travelled extensively around the world and have rarely been treated so well.”
And a third added: “We could not have been more pleased with the whole experience! Truly, staying here, is like visiting the friends in Belize that you didn’t know you had.”

It really has been a whirlwind journey for Andy and Simone and their two sons Lucas and Aidan – but one that the family have learnt to embrace.
Writing on their hotel website, the Dutch former TV host said: “We often get asked, ‘How did a professional footballer player and a former MTV VJ end up owning a jungle lodge in Belize?’
“Well, it wasn’t a conscious plan, we were simply looking for an adventure. So in 2001 we moved to the tropics without knowing what we were going to do once we got there.
“For a while we soaked up the sun, developed our property and did a lot of soul-searching and head-scratching.
“Then Andy came with the idea of turning the Dome into a small resort.
“I thought that sharing our personal space with strangers was a terrible idea. But, as in all things, I have learned to trust my crazy husband and so went with it.
“It turned out that his vision was a great one! Instead of ‘strangers’ invading our space, our guests became friends.
“It felt like being visited by family we never knew we had. Our staff become family too, and it is a continued pleasure working alongside them.”

But despite seemingly living the dream in Belize, Hunt joked there is one main problem of swapping England for the Belizean jungle.
He said: “I spend a lot of my time repairing my cars because the roads aren’t great over here!”
But despite scoring ten goals in 42 Premier League appearances, the major transfer into running a holiday resort did not come completely out of the blue for Hunt.
While playing in non-league at King’s Lynn and Kettering Town, he studied a business and tourism management course.
The striker signed for the Magpies in 1991, playing under Jim Smith, Ossie Ardiles and Kevin Keegan in two years before joining West Brom, initially on loan as he scored a hat-trick on his home debut against Aston Villa.
Hunt made the switch permanent and chipped in with 67 goals in 202 games before finishing his playing career at Charlton.
The Addicks suffered relegation in his first season but helped them go straight back up in 1999-2000.
Hunt started the next season with four goals before the end of September – but then had to step away amid his health struggles.

Simone, meanwhile, moved from the Netherlands to London aged 18 as she became the youngest video jockey at MTV Europe.
On top of her broadcast career, she even released four of her own singles and was a judge on German TV show Popstars – but left it all behind when she traded pop songs for birdsongs.

The former Chelsea youngster’s contract expires in 2026, with Bayern keen to extend it.
However, Musiala’s agents are currently not talking to Thomas Tuchel’s side about a new deal.

Kane said: “Jamal has been fantastic. There’s been a lot of talk about how good he is and how young he is.
