The FA are claimed to be compiling a list of potential candidates to replace Southgate, when he eventually leaves his post.
Newcastle boss Howe is believed to be among the strongest contenders.

Instead he hopes to be at Newcastle for the long-term.

But it’s claimed that Howe will not be under pressure if his side fail to finish in the top four this season.
With Howe not keen, two other obvious English candidates are believed to be in the running.

Man Utd on track for worst season in 34 YEARS and Sheff Utd predicted to set unwanted record according to damning data

MANCHESTER UNITED could be set for their worst ever Premier League season.United have been in transition since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, which was when they won their last Prem title.
Manchester United are predicted to endure their worst ever Premier League season
Man Utd are experiencing their worst ever start in the Premier League
Sheffield United are facing the prospect of breaking Derby’s dismal points tally record
And the Red Devils have been trying to find their feet in this post-Fergie era for the last 10 years but have proven to be quite inconsistent.
The Manchester giants finished seventh in their first season after Sir Alex’s departure, which is their worst ever Prem tally to date.
But they also managed to show signs of their former glory under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who led them to second place in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
Even current manager Erik ten Hag hinted he can turn things around when he led them to third place on his debut season despite a turbulent campaign and Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious exit.

However, United have suffered their worst ever start in the Premier League that has seen them drop to 10th place after losing four of their opening eight matches.
According to Grosvenor Casinos, things can go really bad if their run of bad form continues based on aggregate data from the current and past three seasons.
Because that will see Ten Hag’s men finishing 10th, which will mark their worst finish in a season since the 1989-1990 campaign – before the Prem’s inception in 1992 – which saw them dropping to 13th.
Sheffield United are also facing the prospect of breaking Derby County’s record for lowest points tally in the English top flight.

But it’s all smiles for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou who could finally end his team’s near 16-year trophyless run in style by winning their first league title since 1961.
Arsenal are looking at another second-placed finish with the same points as their north London rivals.

Arsenal may finish second with the same points tally as rivals Tottenham
Current Treble winners Manchester City’s reign of dominance could come to an abrupt end by finishing in third place.
Liverpool are predicted to complete the top four and returning to the Champions League next season.
Aston Villa and Brighton are looking at Europa League qualification, while the world’s richest club Newcastle are facing the prospect of Europa Conference League football after a shaky start.
Crystal Palace complete the top 10 by finishing with about four points ahead of United.
Chelsea are looking at another poor finish that would see them in 11th place despite owner Todd Boehly’s staggering £1billion investment in transfers alone since taking over last summer.
Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Brentford are predicted to be below the Blues.

Everton and Luton, on the other hand, just avoid relegation by making it to 16th and 17th place respectively.

Mohammed Kudus’ agent slams ‘ridiculous’ Chelsea transfer chiefs for bizarre summer bargaining tactic

MOHAMMED KUDUS’ agent has slammed Chelsea for their “ridiculous” bargaining tactics. The Blues were linked with the Ghanaian ace during the summer transfer window.

Kudus, 23, agreed personal terms with the West Londoners, and is even claimed to have spoken with Mauricio Pochettino.
The move fell through, however, because Chelsea would not offer Ajax more than £17million – less than half of the £38m fee he eventually went to West Ham for.
Speaking to RMC Sport about the Blues’ bizarre pursuit, Kudus’ agent Jen Mendelewitsch said: “We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done.
“He talked with the coach but in the end it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.

    “There was no counter offer.
“Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted.”
Mendelewitsch then revealed why she thinks the Blues behaved so strangely.
She added: “The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of (Moises) Caicedo which took up all their energy.”

Kudus, 23, is yet to start a Premier League game under Hammers boss David Moyes.
But he managed to bag his first goal from the bench last time out, netting a last minute equaliser against Newcastle.
The attacker has started both of West Ham’s Europa League matches so far this term, scoring against Backa Topola.
After that match, Moyes lifted the lid on his plan for Kudus, saying: “We’re getting used to us and we’re still getting used to him, as we’ve said about a lot of our new players who have come to the Premier League.
“We’re going to give Mo the opportunity to settle in, but he made a good contribution on Thursday night.”

Arsenal star Ramsdale reveals his dad ‘had a few too many’ during boozy golf trip in Spain before Carragher row

AARON RAMSDALE reckons his dad had a few beers before having a go at Jamie Carragher on social media. And the Arsenal goalkeeper can smile about that.

But Ramsdale is deadly serious about how he is “hurting and suffering” after being dropped to the Gunners’ bench – and worried his Euro 2024 dreams will “fall by the wayside”.
Nick Ramsdale called Sky Sports pundit Carragher “a disgrace” for accusing his son of playing up to the cameras when he applauded rival David Raya’s wondersave in the North London Derby.
Ramsdale junior said with a grin: “It doesn’t help that my dad does it.
“But it was on a golf trip in Spain with 19 other lads from the local pub.

“To be honest, I wasn’t too mad at him, he didn’t say anything out of turn. It just wasn’t helpful for the situation, he knew that.
“He obviously just had a few too many on the golf course!”
Ramsdale has found it tough being replaced as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper by Raya – although boss Mikel Arteta claims he doesn’t have a No 1.
The former Sheffield United goalkeeper said: “Because it’s one of the first times it’s happened with the situation, it has been difficult.

“Whether it is me or David who plays we need to be able to just focus and play but at the same time, it’s a strange, big headline and it’s one that we’re working through as a club.
“And it’s one that the manager puts in front of us and we have to deal with it and that is what we are doing.”
Raya has said publicly that he and Ramsdale get on well, despite their rivalry.
Ramsdale said: “We are with each other for three or four hours a day – there are four or five of us in that group so if we don’t get on it wouldn’t work.
“We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up.
“And if for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down, and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him and make sure he’s ready for the weekend if he’s picked to play.”
Ramsdale knows not being picked for Arsenal could hurt his chances of going to the Euros in Germany next summer, let alone his ability to challenge Jordan Pickford for his starting spot.
England boss Gareth Southgate has kept faith with players like Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips despite their lack of game time for their clubs.
But Ramsdale, who was on the bench alongside Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone for the Three Lions’ win over Italy, admits he is worried.
Ramsdale said: “Of course, it is the first time I have found myself in this situation.
“The manager here is brilliant, he trusts the players he’s worked with before as we’ve seen in different types of ways.
“You’ll see Kalvin and Harry haven’t played the most amount of minutes but when they step up for England and are given the opportunity, they perform.
    Read More on The Sun
“So if that’s the case for myself and I do get shown that trust to play another game if I haven’t played for my club, then I will have to repay him.
“But of course I want to get into my club team and be able to give the manager a headache rather than just have Jordan as the No 1 and me fall by the wayside.”

William Gallas fears Kai Havertz is ‘in trouble’ as he singles out £65million transfer who has ‘done nothing’

The versatile playmaker joined Mikel Arteta’s side from London rivals Chelsea last summer following a £65million deal.
However, the Germany international has struggled to live up to expectations with only one goal and one assist in 12 appearances.
But the 24-year-old created Gabriel Martinelli’s winner against Manchester City two weeks ago and Arteta initially tried to use him as a central midfielder to fill in for Granit Xhaka.
Nevertheless, Gallas is not at all convinced and claims Arsenal should have never signed Havertz.

The ex-Chelsea and Tottenham star insists the German needs to adapt immediately.
Gallas told Lord Ping: “I’m not impressed with Kai Havertz so far.
“He’s done nothing since he joined Arsenal. He may have scored, but that was only because Martin Odegaard let him take a penalty!
“Havertz hasn’t done anything yet, and I think he’s in trouble.

“I don’t think Arsenal should have signed Kai Havertz. I think that was a mistake. If you spent £60million on a striker, you expect them to score at least 15 goals in a season! I don’t think that’ll happen
“Arsenal don’t have time! The season may be long, but clubs need results straight away.
“Havertz was at Chelsea for three years and knows the Premier League well.
“It may take a while to settle into a new team, but he already lived in London!
“Players need to adapt immediately – they don’t have time.” More

How Newcastle could line up with Kalvin Phillips after January transfer window as Toon prepare for life without Tonali

How Eddie Howe could line up his side in the second half of the season
The Italian is being investigated by authorities in his home country over alleged illegal betting, including on old club AC Milan while there.
In Italy players can receive gambling bans of up to three years, which can increase to five if they have bet on their own team’s games.
Reports in Italy claim that Tonali has confessed to placing bets on Milan games while there.
Admitting the offence could halve a potential ban, while working with authorities may reduce it further.

But if found guilty, Tonali could still be in line for a longer ban than the seven months received by Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli.
The 23-year-old remains in contention to play for the Toon this weekend, when they host Crystal Palace.
But should he receive a ban in the coming weeks, Newcastle could turn to Phillips to bolster their midfield ranks.
In the Toon’s brilliant recent 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain, Tonali played on the right of a midfield three alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff.

Club chiefs may hope that Phillips could fulfil a similar role within their 4-3-3 system.
The 27-year-old impressed in Leeds’ high-octane game under Marcelo Bielsa, but has failed to make an impact at City.
Despite Rodri’s recent ban, Phillips has failed to start a Premier League game this season, making three substitute appearances.
He has continued to be selected by England boss Gareth Southgate, but Phillips is well aware that he needs to start playing more regularly at club level.
The Yorkshireman recently reflected: “I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend.
“I’m going to have to make a decision over the next months. I’m very competitive but I want to play football.”
Phillips could fit in well in Newcastle’s XI alongside fellow England internationals Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope, with Callum Wilson in reserve behind Alexander Isak.
While Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn and Longstaff may be pushing for senior call-ups.
