Man Utd star Rasmus Hojlund fires Wayne Rooney warning to City ahead of £72million signing’s first Manchester derby

RASMUS HOJLUND wants to emulate the greatest goal in Manchester derby history and bring the house down at Old Trafford this Sunday.Hojlund was just eight when Rooney scored that magical overhead kick against City back in 2011.

He’d like to emulate Rooney’s derby day cracker from 2011Credit: PA
And he has no hesitation in marking that out as the best ever in this famous encounter.
He said: “The bicycle kick from Wayne Rooney, of course! Everybody remembers that, don’t they?”
Now it is on the 20-year-old striker from Denmark to break his Premier League duck for the Red Devils with something similar.
Mind you even a tap in would do. But what would it mean to score in the derby?
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
Hojlund said:“It would be a big experience, so I am looking forward to it. It is always special to play a rival and if we win the game, we can get closer to the top, so it would be nice.”
So far Hojlund’s three goals for United have come in defeats, scoring once away to Bayern Munich and twice at home to Galatasaray.
With a £72million transfer fee paid to Atalanta for his services a return is expected and much needed from Hojlund with United struggling for goals.
Hojlund said: “I know my worth. I know I have to perform every day because I play for Manchester United. In the end, I am only 20 years old and I am not the finished article yet. I still have a lot to improve and I am getting there slowly.

“I reckon I have had a fine start to the season and now we have to keep building and the goals will come in the Premier League.
“I’ve tried my best every time I play, and I still need to find the rhythm. We have been struggling a little bit, but we are getting there now. We have had three wins in a row, so that is very positive.”
He is not the only one struggling for goals right now with Marcus Rashford missing more chances on Tuesday night to add to his single strike for the season after racking up career best figures of 30 in the last campaign.
Hojlund believes there are signs of the two of them building a relationship on the pitch which can only be beneficial to the Red Devils.
He said: “You can see we are trying to find each other. In the Sheffield United game, he nearly got an assist to me, and I think he has already assisted me twice in the Champions League.
“We are definitely trying to find each other on the pitch and I also tried to find him with a deep pass today, so we have a good connection.
“I improve every day and my team-mates are starting to see my patterns in the game as well, so it is getting better and better every day.”
It needed centre-back Harry Maguire to get the win for United on Tuesday night against FC Copenhagen with his 72nd minute header before Andre Onana’s injury time penalty save maintained the three points.
Hojlund says he and Rashford are developing a better understandingCredit: EPA
It was their first win in Group A after those two opening defeats.
The day was something of a family affair for Hojlund on Tuesday with his 18-year-old younger twin brothers Oscar and Emil also in action.
Emil had played earlier in the day for the under-19 side against United and came out a 1-0 winner.
On to Sunday’s derby and inevitably comparisons will be made with Erling Haaland, 23, given the Norwegian’s incredible impact at Manchester City after costing them an initial down payment of £51million thanks to a buy out clause with Borussia Dortmund.
    Read More on The Sun
But Hojlund said: “I don’t want to be compared to him. He is incredible and probably the best striker in the world right now. We can keep that on the low for now, but I hope I can improve and then we will see what I am capable of.”
If he can get that spectacular derby winner, a comparison with Rooney will do for now. More

Premier League call for Everton to face 12-point deduction if found guilty of breaching FFP rules

EVERTON are facing a 12-point deduction if they are found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The Premier League has called for the punishment after Everton recorded heavy financial losses over the past three years.

The Telegraph claims the Toffees are down £371.8million over that time period.
The Prem’s permitted amount is £105m – less than a third of Everton’s losses.
And the Merseyside club is now staring down the barrel of a heavy points penalty, with their case currently being heard by an independent commission.
A points deduction would be a huge hit to Everton’s survival hopes, with the club narrowly escaping relegation over the past several seasons.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
They are currently 16th in the table with just seven points from nine games.
A 12-point hit right now would leave them five points adrift of bottom-place Sheffield United, and nine from safety.
It would be the first points deduction of its kind in the English top flight.
But a decision is unlikely to be made until later this year, with Everton also facing other potential punishments.
    Most read in Football
These could reportedly include fines and a transfer embargo.
News of Everton’s FFP breaches first came in March.
A club statement at the time read: “The club strongly contests the allegation of non-compliance.
“Everton is prepared to robustly defend its position.”

Meanwhile, owner Farhad Moshiri is attempting to sell Everton to 777Partners in a £500million deal.
But the Premier League could block the deal amid concerns over whether 777’s managing partner Josh Wander would pass the Prem owners’ and directors’ test. More

Rio Ferdinand reveals Sir Alex Ferguson ignored TWO of his transfer pleas including begging boss to sign ex-Leeds pal

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that two of his transfer recommendations were duly ignored by Sir Alex Ferguson. The Premier League Hall of Fame defender pleaded for the Red Devils to sign Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe.

And also recommended Jermain DefoeCredit: Rex Features
Ferdinand had the chance to see Lennon in action before many others, given the winger was part of Leeds United’s academy at the time when Rio was starring in the first team at Elland Road.
The pair also spent plenty of time alongside each other within the England set-up, both making the 2006 and 2010 World Cup squads, though Ferdinand missed the latter through injury.
But despite his efforts to persuade United to nab Lennon, boss Ferguson simply ignored his requests.
He told his YouTube channel Vibe with Five: “Like Fergie, I’ve said to him, ‘from what I’ve seen in training, if he can replicate it in games, we need to get this guy’.”
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
“But Fergie just never moved on it. We had so many players.”
Soon after, it was revealed that the ex-England ace also recommended a move for Defoe.
The 44-year-old added: “The one player I always used to say to Ferguson if you want to buy someone from our England team it should be Defoe.
“Because he wouldn’t have started for United all the time, but he would’ve been another type of Chicharito.

“Defoe could come on and all he cares about is scoring, and if we’re winning 5-0 he’ll want to make it 6-0.
“We would’ve got him in so many positions to score it would’ve been a joke.”
But the Scotsman never did follow Ferdinand’s tip with either Lennon or Defoe.
Lennon eventually left Leeds in 2005 and joined Tottenham for a fee of £1m.
The winger spent the bulk of his career at White Hart Lane, scoring 30 goals and providing 79 assists in 364 appearances for Spurs.
He then joined Everton for three-and-half seasons, before joining Burnley on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Meanwhile, striker Defoe played for a host of Premier League sides, including West Ham, Spurs, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Bournemouth.
United had paid £30 million to sign Ferdinand in 2002, which broke the British transfer record at the time.
The most successful British manager knew his way around the transfer market and rarely miscalculated.

Newcastle are beginning to prepare for life without Tonali.
The Italian midfielder, 23, is expected to receive a ten-month ban after being investigated for alleged illegal betting on football matches.
And that leaves boss Howe with a major hole to fill, just four months after the signing the Italy midfielder for £55million from AC Milan.
Manchester United star McTominay has been a long-term Toon target.

And the Athletic say Howe thinks he could be the man to fill Tonali’s role in both defensive and central midfield positions.
Scotland star McTominay has been a goalscoring sensation for both club and country this season.
And Erik ten Hag does not want to lose the star who has netted three times in his last two games.
But despite his exploits in front of goal, McTominay has not been a regular in his boss’ first XI this season and may be tempted by a move to a top-four rival

Fulham star Palhinha has also been on Newcastle’s radar and could feature again in the recruitment list in the January transfer window.
But they will face competition from a host of European giants.
The midfielder was on the verge of making the move to Bayern Munich in the summer for a £56million move.
Yet the deal collapsed as the Cottagers failed to find a replacement before the window shut.
Bayern will be expected to launch a fresh deal for their top target again in January.
However last month Palhinha agreed to a new contract with Fulham up until 2028 meaning he will not come cheap to the German side or Premier League rivals.
Howe confessed last week that the news about Tonali came as a “total surprise to me, to everybody.”
The summer signing has made a tremendous start for the Magpies and has shown his capabilities in the league against Aston Villa and in Europe against Paris Saint-Germain.

    Kobbie boost
Kobbie Mainoo has finally returned to Manchester United match action after injury.
The midfielder, 18, started for the Red Devils’ under-19s against Copenhagen in the Uefa Youth League on Tuesday.
The whizkid made his first appearance since hurting his ankle on the club’s USA tour back in July.
He played 45 minutes before being replaced by Jayce Fitzgerald at half-time.
Reacting to Mainoo’s inclusion in the starting line-up, one United fan commented: “Kobbie is back finally!”
Another added: “Lovely, this is fantastic.” Meanwhile, a third supporter wrote: “Mainoo back in the squad, nice!”
The 18-year-old midfielder had impressed in pre-season before suffering an injury setback.
He returned to training earlier this month, with footage from Carrington exciting United fans.
    ‘Tyrell training again’
United’s left-back curse could be easing as Tyrell Malacia is reportedly back in training.
England star Luke Shaw has been out injured since August.
And although Sergio Reguilon arrived from Tottenham on loan, centre-back Victor Lindelof had to fill in on the left of defence in Saturday’s 2-1 Prem win at Sheffield United.
But the Manchester Evening News say Holland ace Malacia is now training individually and did ball-work yesterday.
The Holland ace has been out with a knee problem.
Prem giants queue up for Nico
Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have reportedly all recently asked Athletic Bilbao about winger Nico Williams – so will United follow suit?.
The 10-cap Spaniard, 21, is out of contract next summer.
Williams is thought to have turned down Aston Villa in the last transfer window.
But 90min say Premier League clubs are keener than ever on the starlet.
Athletic are said to be optimistic Williams will extend his deal.
But his list of admirers is growing – especially after four assists in seven LaLiga games this season.

Here’s why I say ‘Can’t believe we let Ronaldo go’
United fans suddenly rue Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit 10 months ago after his latest stunner for Al-Nassr.
The Portugal legend’s 25-yard cracker on the 38-year-old’s weaker, left foot left completed his double in a 4-3 win over Al-Ahli.
One Red Devils’ supporter “can’t believe we got rid of him” ago – while another fan claimed even left-footed GOAT rival Lionel Messi had never scored such a great goal from the same boot.

Ronaldo followed a free-kick special at the weekend with an even better display as Al-Nassr made it five straight wins in the Saudi Pro League.
And in fact both goals in a spelllbinding top-four clash against Al-Ahli came with his left foot.
But one armchair observer said of Ron’s contribution: “Say what you want about the league he’s playing but for a 38 year old, he’s amazing.”
Another wrote: “Messi is left footed and I’ve never seen him do that.”
And amongst the many GOAT claims – including a “Best of all time” assessment – was this measured verdict: “Still one of the top five players in the world.”

Scuff justice for ‘wonderful s***house’ Garnancho
United sealed a crucial Champions League win over Copenhagen thanks to a last-gasp penalty save from Andre Onana.
But some fans noticed that his team-mate influenced the spot-kick.
Alejandro Garnacho appeared to scuff the penalty spot while the referee wasn’t looking – just moments before Jordan Larsson’s shot was saved.

Fans took to social media to react, with one person writing: “Garnacho you wonderful s***house.”
Another added: “GARNACHO I LOVE YOU.”
A third person wrote: “Bro went straight into business as soon as referee whistles for penalty.”
While a fourth joked: “HAHAHAHA MY S***HOUSE STARBOY.”
Man Utd went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to Harry Maguire’s second-half strike.
The Red Devils have now jumped up to third in Group A, behind Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

And after some brutal criticism, Maguire sealed United’s first Champions League victory with a stunning defensive display and clinical header.
    Sergio Reguilon – 6
He only returned from injury and showed promising signs for the difficult matches ahead.
However, he did also show signs of nerves throughout the game.

Who could have scripted Onana & Harry as the heroes?
It was Sir Bobby Charlton himself who famously called this legendary ground the “Theatre of Dreams”, writes NEIL CUSTIS.
But nobody could have dreamed this one up. Not Harry Maguire, not Andre Onana.

The outpouring of emotion on the pitch and in the stands showed what it all meant.
Maguire the goalscorer in the 72nd minute.Then in the seventh minute of injury time and with the last kick of the game substitute Jordan Larsson – son of ex-United striker Henrik – had a penalty saved by the much-criticised United No1. Incredible, just incredible.
What of Maguire. Dumped out the team last season and then humiliated when the captain’s armband was taken off him.
He was up for sale if there were any takers. Maguire was not going quietly.

He wanted a proper pay off to go and Manchester United could not reach an agreement. So he was staying and that inner determination that got him to Old Trafford in the first place has shone through since.

I lived in a homeless shelter for EIGHT YEARS before sealing life-changing transfer to Man Utd

ONE STAR went from living in a homeless shelter for EIGHT years to lining-up for Manchester United. After being spotted at the Homeless World Cup, Sir Alex Ferguson stumped up £7.4million to sign Tiago Manuel Dias Correia, nicknamed Bebe, back in 2010.

The Portuguese attacker, now 33, was recommended to him by No2 Carlos Queiroz.
And Sir Alex activated the player’s release clause at Vitoria Guimaraes despite having NEVER seen him play.
That move should have been the ultimate rags to riches fairytale but it ended in Bebe being regularly labelled one of the biggest failures in the Premier League’s history.
He left in 2014 having made just seven senior appearances in four years and when he found out he was being sold to Benfica he said it was the “best moment of my life”.

But despite his failure to make it on the big stage at Old Trafford, the fact he even got to play for the Red Devils given his early upbringing is a remarkable feat.
Bebe, now 33, spent almost a decade in a homeless shelter after being abandoned by his parents.
Speaking previously to the Daily Star, he explained how he was taught to read and write and reluctantly learned how to play football: “I had eight years in an orphanage. There, I did not like football. But my friends always wanted to play and I had no choice but to join in.”
He soon took to the game like a duck to water on the pitch at Lisbon’s Caso do Gaiato and soon Bebe’s first big break came when he was convinced to represent Portugal at the Homeless World Cup.

He said: “They asked me to go to the Homeless World Cup, and I accepted.
“I went there as a joke, but scored 40 goals in six matches.”
Those performances soon had clubs sniffing an eyeing a bargain – but Bebe says he wanted to stay HOMELESS.
He explained: “I didn’t want to sign for a team because I did not want to have to leave the orphanage.
“It was difficult to leave. But I carried on going back there to sleep whenever I could.”
Bebe admits he thought it was a joke when he learned of United’s interest just weeks after he had left third tier Estrela de Amadora for top-flight Vitoria Guimaraes.
Bebe did manage to score in back to back games against Wolves and Bursaspor in the Champions League but it soon became apparent he did not have what it takes to cut the mustard alongside his star-studded team-mates.
After starting just three games for the club and then loans at Besiktas, Rio Ave and Pacos de Ferreira, he left for Benfica in 2014 for £2.4m.
Things failed to work out for him back in his homeland either as he made just six appearances before being shipped out on loan to La Liga sides Cordoba – that produced no goals in 18 games – and Rayo Vallecano – where he got three in 34 league games.
Then, in 2016, Eibar offered him a permanent Spanish home and he lasted 18 months there and grabbed three goals and four assists in 29 La Liga outings.
He returned in January 2018 to Vallecano on loan in the Spanish second-tier and he helped them to secure a return to the top flight.
That earned him a permanent deal there and he is still turning out for the Madrid-based club in LaLiga these days despite spending the second half of last term on loan at Real Zaragoza.
And he can even call himself a full international now.

He was called-up for African nation Cape Verde in March 2022, who he qualifies for through his ancestry, and celebrated his debut with a goal in a 2-0 win over Guadeloupe.
He has gone on to score another three times for his adopted nation in his 12 caps.

But after a series of responses from Jorginho, he was finally asked: “Favourite stadium you’ve ever played at?”
The camera shows Jorginho scratching his head contemplating his answer.
But rather than including whatever Jorginho says, the Arsenal social media team cropped the clip – with no answer given.
And supporters are convinced it is because the ex-Chelsea man gave an unpopular answer.

And a final user replied: “He answered Stamford Bridge on the last one. Is that why it cut off?”
Others, though, suggested he may have said the San Siro.
Either way, it is pretty clear he did not choose the answer the Gunners were hoping for, the Emirates.
Jorginho’s other answers included Ayrton Senna as his greatest sportsperson ever, beach holidays over city breaks, tennis as his favourite other sport and his mother as his inspiration.
He named Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Martinelli as his best friends at Arsenal – while his best moment for the club was the dramatic goal at Aston Villa last season.
But there were quite a few answers he “didn’t know” – prompting plenty of witty responses.
One quipped: “Bro doesn’t know about himself.”
Another joked: “Looks like most questions are difficult for him…”
