Chelsea 0 Brentford 2: Woeful Blues drop into bottom half after just THREE wins in ten… and they could fall to 15TH

JUST when Chelsea thought they had turned the corner, west London neighbours Brentford arrived to inflict even more pain and embarrassment.Defender Ethan Pinnock scored with a 58th minute header and Bryan Mbeumo rubbed salt into the wound with a second in injury time .

The stats from Brentford’s win over Chelsea
Incredibly, it means Thomas Frank’s side have won all three of their Premier League games at Stamford Bridge.
After 4-1 and 2-0 wins here, Brentford hung on for a win which was hugely frustrating for boss Mauricio Pochettino.
After scoring just one goal in September, Chelsea had struck eight times in their three Premier League games this month but the team’s old problems returned to haunt them.
Namely, that after throwing £1billion at new players under the new owners, they still don’t have a proper strikeforce.

Despite having all of the possession in the first half, they still failed to produce a killer finish with striker Nicolas Jackson looking completely out of his depth.
Just before half-time, boss Pochettino was involved in a spat with a home fan who had told Jackson to “wake up”.
Jackson replied by putting a finger on his lips while Pochettino urged the punter to support the team.
Chelsea were not helped by the fact that Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk were both missing after picking up muscle strains in training on Friday.

And the one plus for Chelsea was a bright performance from Cole Palmer although even he faded as the game progressed
Noni Madueke is still looking for his first Premier League goal since joining from PSV Eindhoven for £35million and he hammered a left-foot shot against the bar
Conor Gallagher had a shot pushed away by Brentford’s Mark Flekken while Marc Cucurella wasted a brilliant chance when unmarked but he volleyed the ball with his shin straight at the visiting keeper.
Although he did not make much of it, Gallagher had a claim for a penalty after being shoved to the ground by Nathan Collins
Chelsea went in at the break wondering how on earth they were not ahead yet in the second half, they ran out of ideas completely. Quite frankly, they bottled it.
Brentford, having soaked up a lot of pressure, fired one warning when slicing their way through the Chelsea team and Vitaly Janelt fired a shot straight at Sanchez.
Yet Chelsea were not so lucky in Brentford’s next attack when Pinnock, despite being surrounded by three defenders, delivered a late run to score with a header at the far post. Equally, Cucurella was guilty of yet more poor defending for failing to cut out the cross from Mbeumo.
Just before the goal, Brentford sub Neal Maupay, while warming up on the touchline, got booked for kicking the ball away. Unsurprisingly, after the opener, much to the frustration of the home fans, Brentford tried to run the clock down even more.

And as Chelsea became more frustrated, Pochettino’s assistant Jesus Perez was red carded after leaving his technical area for a spat with the Brentford bench.

Yet Brentford piled on the misery in the sixth minute of injury time.
Chelsea threw everyone forward for a corner, including keeper Sanchez, yet Brentford broke through Maupay and he squared for Mbeumo to roll the ball into an empty net. More

    All the gear, no idea
Chelsea dominated the game today, with more shots and more possession than Brentford, but were once again left wanting in front of goal.
Cole Palmer was fantastic in the build up, but often his creativity was wasted by those in front of him.
Nicolas Jackson looked toothless, and Raheem Sterling wasted a big chance in the first half, with Marc Cucurella missing two big shots too.
It seems the Blues do still need that marquee striker signing in January, the Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen rumours will be back in full swing this week.

The SunSport man of the match award today goes to Ethan Pinnock at the back for Brentford.
He opened the scoring, but was also solid at the back and helped massively in terms of shutting out the Chelsea attack.
Not bad for a lad who was playing in non-league for Forest Green Rovers just a few years back.

Pochettino ROWS with Chelsea fan at moody Stamford Brudge after hearing supporter yell at Nicholas Jackson

MAURICIO POCHETTINO could be heard telling a Chelsea fan to ‘support the team!’ after Nicolas Jackson came in for criticism from the stands.

Just moments before the half-time whistle – and with a Brentford player receiving treatment for a minor injury – Stamford Bridge was in near silence.

Mauricio Pochettino told a Chelsea fan to ‘support the team!’ after abuse was aimed at Nicolas Jackson

A fan said to Jackson ‘Wake up’ and ‘Why don’t you score a goal?’

Close to the press box, a Chelsea fan could be heard shouting: “Hey [Nicolas] Jackson, wake up!

“Why don’t you score a goal?”

Jackson appeared to put his finger to his mouth as if to silence the fan.

Then Blues boss Pochettino, whose dugout is just 10 metres in front of media members, turned around and had his say.

“Support the team!” Poch shouted in the general direction of the East Stand Lower.

Other Chelsea fans in that section then clapped the manager’s response, with the half-time whistle blowing moments later.

Chelsea crashed to a first defeat in four in all competitions against their local rivals, Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo scoring for the Bees.

Pochettino’s side registered a dominant 70% possession but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances – especially after going a goal down.

Chelsea slipped to a first defeat in four in all competitions as Brentford beat the Blues 2-0

Noni Madueke almost scored in the early stages, cutting inside Aaron Hickey and unleashing a swirling effort that rocked the angle of the post and bar.

Raheem Sterling had a penalty shout waved away by VAR before Marc Cucurella had Chelsea’s best chance but his soft volley from a Cole Palmer cross was easily collected by Brentford keeper Mark Flekken.

The Blues then had a reasonable shout for a penalty waved away by VAR after Raheem Sterling was shoved by Mads Roerslev.

However, their good work in the first half was undone when Ethan Pinnock arrived late to crash home a header at the far post and put Brentford 1-0 up.

Pushing for an equaliser late on, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez went up for a corner but the Blues were punished as Bryan Mbeumo raced through to score into an empty net.

Speaking about the incident after the game, Pochettino said: “It was a moment where we all felt frustrated. We had played well but we hadn’t scored.

“Jackson arrived to me to try and find a solution [in the game].

“One fan said ‘wake up’ and abused him a little bit – maybe not abuse but abusive – and Nico lost a bit of focus in that moment.

“So I said we need to support the players and stay behind the team.” More

Roma have replaced him with Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea and the Serie A side would consider making the move permanent.
This and manager Jose Mourinho’s expected exit from the club at the end of this season could lead to Abraham wanting out of Italy.
The striker is reportedly keen on a return to England.
Chelsea have always kept an eye on their former player and Lukaku’s potential move to the Stadio Olimpico could facilitate a swap deal.

They also supposedly have a £67m buy-back clause in his Roma contract.
Meanwhile, Brentford are also keen on Abraham and hope £45m will be enough to sign him.
TeamTalk report that he could be high on the Bees’ wishlist should they sell Ivan Toney in the summer.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are open to bolstering their attack and manager Unai Emery is a big fan of Abraham.

Chelsea fans rage as Raheem Sterling denied penalty with NO VAR after Brentford shove as fans say ‘refereeing finished’

CHELSEA fans were left fuming after VAR ignored Raheem Sterling’s shout for a penalty.

Blues fans flooded X with Tweets, with even an ARSENAL fan among those arguing it should have been called.

Raheem Sterling was seemingly pushed by Mads Roerslev, but the Chelsea winger’s penalty calls were dismissed by VAR

that’s got to be a penalty he’s literally just pushed sterling in the back, uno the refereeing is finished when i’m calling for a chelsea penalty.— jayden (@JayZAFC) October 28, 2023

JayZAFC wrote: “That’s got to be a penalty he’s literally just pushed Sterling in the back.

“[You know] the refereeing is finished when I’m calling for a Chelsea penalty.”

The incident came mid-way through the first half of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to local rivals Brentford – their first defeat in four games in all competitions.

Cole Palmer floated an excellent cross into the box with Sterling racing to get onto the end of it.

The English winger was then seemingly shoved from behind by Mads Roerslev, who made no attempt to play the ball.

The home fans cries went ignored and then VAR too waved off the penalty appeal after a short check.

The Blues huffed and puffed in the first half but failed to create another clear-cut chance, with Mauricio Pochettino also clashing with a fan who hit out at Nicolas Jackson.

Despite Chelsea having 70 per cent possession at home, Ethan Pinnock punished them with a towering header after an hour.
