Mauricio Pochettino admits Chelsea made MISTAKES after spending staggering £1billion on transfers

MAURICIO POCHETTINO admits Chelsea have made mistakes after spending £1BILLION on players. The Blues are languishing in 11th place with just three wins from 10 games this season.

Todd Boehly’s new-look squad showed early signs of promise in pre-season, avoiding defeats to Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham as they won the inaugural Premier League Summer Series.
But Chelsea are now struggling for form and goals after suffering a 2-0 home defeat to Brentford.
And Poch believes it’s down to the high number of ins and outs during the transfer window.
This summer’s overhaul saw a turnover of 40 players, with Chelsea signing 12 and offloading 28 to take their spending to £1bn.

Pochettino believes it’s playing a significant role in his side’s struggles.
And he reckons it will take time to get things right with his new team of youngsters.
But Poch has also warned Boehly that Chelsea can’t afford to repeat the “mistakes” of ripping things up root and stem.
He explained: “Things that go against you, you have to try to resist them and try to survive.

“You have to be quiet and be strong. And not to lose your balance, because it is easy to blame or say something that is going to affect other people and lead to division in the club.
“The important thing is to trust the ideas, the judgement and analysis of why certain things have not happened.
“To help the organisation to be better and to improve, and not to make the same mistakes again.
“The most important thing is to learn from the mistakes. At the moment I think we are a young team.
“A young team means too many changes in the summer because of the circumstances and we are suffering – sometimes good and bad results, but performances are consistent.”
Pochettino also jumped to the defence of Nicolas Jackson, who came under fire from supporters after a dismal day out against Brentford.
The striker was also criticised by Alan Shearer on Match of the Day.
But Poch said: “I think that Nico, if you watch the game against Liverpool or Dortmund in pre-season, or Luton, he was doing what the analysis was about and what we expect.
“But for different circumstances, Nico is not at his best today. For different circumstances, but we need to recover the player that was.
“It’s really dangerous, this type of analysis, because it’s one game. I cannot lie, it wasn’t his best, but we need to be fair. If you watch Luton, if you watch Dortmund in pre-season, if you watch Liverpool, you will see this is one player.
“The Brentford game was another player. I agree with the analysis, but it’s not fair to say he is not capable of doing what we expect of him.
“I believe in him. The only problem is time. I don’t want to give examples, but he arrived at Chelsea in situation that is not easy for him.

“Maybe players with more time than Nico, they are not performing in the way that we expect. We need to give time, for sure he has the conditions.
“Nico is young, he arrived this season, circumstances didn’t help him perform at his best. What can we do? Throw him in the bin and say he is useless? Come on, we need to give him confidence.” More

Some of the Red Devils’ aces have not worn the official socks since the second game of the season at Tottenham in August.
Andre Onana has had issues with his jersey as he had been wearing the shirt specifically designed for players with a closer fit than those made available to fans.
However, the summer signing found it too tight and has now switched to a looser replica version.
The Manchester giants’ 2-1 victory over Sheffield United two weeks ago was the final straw for the goalkeeper.

Bizarrely, United’s No1 last season David de Gea complained his kit was too BAGGY.
However, Onana has a larger frame than his predecessor and it appears the adjustments made with De Gea in mind have backfired.
Other United players have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the socks as they find them too tight on their calves.
Some cut holes in the back of their socks but the club ultimately switched to fan-issue socks as a temporary solution.

The club and adidas did not comment to the Daily Mail on the situation but the kitwear company are understood to be looking into a solution.
United fans, however, have been left furious with the latest issue amid a turbulent campaign that has seen Erik ten Hag’s men slumping to eighth place in the Premier League table.
One fan tweeted: “Holy f**k our club is a mess.”
Another commented: “We’ve already blamed VAR. The refs. The injuries. The schedule. The owners. The stadium. Only thing left was the kit and well… Here we are.”
A third posted: “What a disaster of a club from top to socks.”
This fan said: “We have become a joke club. What is this am I reading!!”
And that one wrote: “We should start keeping some news to ourselves. This club is highly embarrassing.”

According to The Mail, however, the Red Devils are likelier to trigger a one-year extension to keep the full-back until 2025 and reevaluate his situation in January.
The England international has recently returned to training after sustaining a hamstring injury in September.
And the Manchester giants want the 25-year-old to regain full fitness before making any final decisions regarding his future.
Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial’s deals also expire in June, which means they can talk to overseas clubs in January.

And it is unclear whether United will extend Lindelof or Martial’s deal at this stage.
Wan-Bissaka is fighting for a place in Erik ten Hag’s starting line-up at right-back with Diogo Dalot.
Lindelof, on the other hand, has managed to play more minutes this season following the injuries of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, who recently returned to full fitness at centre-back.
And Martial has dropped down the pecking order after striker Rasmus Hojlund’s £72million arrival from Atalanta last summer.

Ten Hag, though, is not looking as far as January following a turbulent start to the campaign.

Chelsea handed major injury boost as Mauricio Pochettino confirms return of ‘cursed’ star & reveals why another is in LA

The West Londoners have slumped to 11th place in the Prem but are hoping their fortunes will change with James set to start for the first time since the season opener against Liverpool in August.
The Chelsea captain recently overcame a hamstring injury and made two cameos off the bench against Arsenal, where he played six minutes, and Brentford, where he got 23 minutes, this month.
Pochettino said: “I can confirm he [James] is going to start. The captain is ready.
“It’s good for the team, it’s good for him to start from the beginning. We can see after, checking always how he is performing.”

This also poses as a major boost that could relieve Chelsea from the so-called “Reece James curse” as the England international has not won a Premier League game in 2023.
If Pochettino’s side beat Blackburn then that won’t break the 23-year-old’s hoodoo, but it could lead to the “curse” being finally lifted on Monday at Tottenham.
The Argentine tactician also confirmed Ben Chilwell is undergoing rehab on a hamstring injury in Los Angeles.
Chilwell was sent to LA to change scenery amid his prolonged rehabilitation.

Pochettino added: “The plan was to change the scenario for him. That happens in different clubs.
“When it’s a long period of recovery, sometimes we change the scenarios for them.
“Twelve hours here every day, it’s a fantastic training ground, but sometimes the player needs to change the atmosphere and the scenario to keep their recovery in a good way.
“It’s still difficult to know when he will be back.” More

However, Ten Hag is now under pressure at Old Trafford, which has continued to grow following Sunday’s loss to rivals Manchester City.
If the Dutchman is sacked, Scholes could again call for Hassenhuttl to take over, with the former Southampton boss still on the market.
Prior to Ten Hag’s appointment, the ex-England midfielder had highlighted the Austrian’s relationship with the interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Scholes explained: “Watching that interview, there is a closeness between them.

“As a sporting director, he was the right choice at the right time for Leipzig – he did brilliantly – and I’ve always liked him.
“I’ve always thought the football he plays at Southampton with not the best squad.
“The type of football has worked for them. His teams have been good to watch; I think it comes across really well.
“This would be a different kind of pressure; I think people around this club, and fans especially, are thinking more of possibly Pochettino or an Antonio Conte and what people have been at the bigger clubs.

“The more I think about it, I don’t think it would be a bad thing. The way he goes about his business, he looks good.”
Rangnick had been set to remain at Old Trafford in an advisory role at the time, before those plans were scrapped and he instead took over the Austrian national team.
Meanwhile, Hassenhuttl was later sacked by Southampton in November 2022.
He has remained out of work since, whilst the Saints went on to finish bottom of the Premier League.
Hassenhuttl had been lined up for a return to management earlier this year but talks with Hoffenheim in February collapsed.

The once Champions League regulars have only won one out of 11 league matches and have lost a staggering eight long the way.
To make matters worse, the 20-time Swiss champions haven’t scored a single goal this entire month.
Last season’s Europa Conference League semi-finalists have instead conceded a whopping 10 across their four matches this month.
Basel tweeted: “No goals in October = No goal of the month.”

That tweet sparked some intense reaction from the club’s fans but there were also some rival supporters who found the opportunity to poke some fun.
In fact, some of them even saw similarities with Chelsea’s turbulent season.
The Blues are still languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table.
And the West Londoners almost went the entirety of September without a goal until their 1-0 win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup just four days before October began.

Having made a sluggish start in Turkey, Ndombele, 26, reportedly found himself involved in a late-night bust-up with Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk.
Buruk, it’s claimed, was already furious with the Spurs loanee, who is Tottenham’s record £63million signing, over an alleged 6kg weight gain.
Turkish outlets Fotospor and Kamu Son Haber report that Ndombele has indulged in junk food at his house and ordered a burger to his hotel room following the recent 3-1 defeat to the German champions.
The reports claim the midfielder has been following a dietary programme at the club.

But the Galatasaray chief will not pick Ndombele until he drops his weight to 75kg, it’s claimed.
The midfielder, who signed to the Super Lig side after struggling in North London, was left out of the Galatasaray squad for Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Rizespor.
Buruk is said to be enraged with Ndombele for his alleged fast food indulgences and the club is said to be considering terminating his loan deal.

But having played just 93 minutes since his arrival in the Turkish capital – there has been speculation his time at the club could come to an end in January.
This would be bad news for Spurs who would find themselves back to square one looking for an exit route for the midfielder.
His fitness had been of concern prior to his move to Galatasaray as Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou confirmed in the summer.
He told Football.London: “The way we play there’s a bit that I need to be strong on and that is that you’ve got to be at a certain physical level to play this kind of football”.
The Aussie and Buruk are not the first to spot Ndombele’s weight problems as ex-Spurs manager Jose Mourinho publically called him out.
While ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit in 2020 slammed the midfielder and claimed he was overweight.
In contrast, Ndombele’s former Spurs team-mate Davinson Sanchez, who joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal in the summer has been a regular starter in their defence. More
