Eddie Howe breaks silence over controversial Ruben Neves transfer as Prem rivals eye rule change to block Newcastle deal

EDDIE HOWE hinted Newcastle will fight Premier League rivals over a proposed ban on them loaning players from Saudi Arabia – after admitting he admires Ruben Neves.Premier League clubs will vote later this month on whether to block January loans between teams with the same owners.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund owns four Pro League clubs in the Gulf nation as well as Newcastle.
The Toon are scouring the market for midfield reinforcements following Sandro Tonali’s ten-month suspension for illegal betting.
Neves, 26, plays for PIF-controlled Al-Hilal and is believed to be keen on a Prem return less than five months after leaving Wolves for £47million.
And Toon boss Howe said: “He was a player we liked when at Wolves.

“We are open to signing players from anywhere if they’re good enough and make us better.”
When asked if Newcastle would fight the changes, Howe added: “You can make that assumption.”
Premier League chiefs will meet on November 21 to discuss the rule changes, with 14 votes needed for the proposal to be passed.
They could also restrict Newcastle’s potential to strike sponsorship deals with PIF-owned companies unless they table other bids of the same value.

And Howe – who returns to Bournemouth tomorrow – added: “We have to wait and see what the result of that vote is.”
Elsewhere, the Magpies have been linked with Copenhagen’s brilliantly-named winger Roony Bardghji.

I was Bournemouth chairman and a lifelong fan until I got BANNED from the club… now I want Newcastle to beat them

EDDIE HOWE’S former chairman Eddie Mitchell is a Newcastle fan now — after being booted out of Bournemouth. And Mitchell admits to being “devastated” that he will not be able to watch Howe’s second return to the Vitality Stadium today.

Howe spent the best part of 12 years at the Cherries, leading them from the bottom of League Two to the Premier League in two spells.
It was Mitchell who negotiated Howe’s return from Burnley in 2012 during his four-year spell in charge.
That history-making decision came off big time and Howe drove the side into the top-flight for the first time in the club’s history — backed by Russian money.
Local property developer Mitchell, 69, was responsible for introducing major share-holder Maxim Demin to the South Coast club.

But soon after the Russian bought the Cherries, Mitchell was banned from Bournemouth and told never to return.
And now Mitchell has switched allegiance to Howe’s Toon, saying: “What happened at Bournemouth left me devastated.
“I am a lifelong Cherries fan but I am not allowed to watch them because I am banned.
“I was banned within two weeks after I sold the club to the Russian.

“I got a letter from a solicitor saying that I was no longer welcome and, if I turned up for a match, I would be escorted out of the ground and the police would be called.
“I was born in Bournemouth and still love the club that has given us Ted MacDougal, Harry Redknapp and Steve Fletcher — people who have made a name for themselves.
“For me Eddie is at the top of the list though — and is now doing a fantastic job, which is why I am a Newcastle supporter now.
“I love the football they are playing and you can see they are playing through him.
“You see the energy they are putting in and his enthusiasm and knowledge must rub off on everyone around him.”
Mitchell is a full-on member of the Eddie Howe Fan Club having seen him at work in his formative managerial days.
The former Portsmouth and Cherries defender, whose career was cut short by injury, became interim boss on New Year’s Day in 2009 after Jimmy Quinn was sacked.
Howe led the cash-strapped League Two strugglers to safety having put his hands in his own pocket to help the club survive.

And Mitchell soon found out what a workaholic he was — which sometimes put his nose out of joint.
Mitchell explained: “I was Eddie’s chairman for his first full season in management and we had our ups and downs.
“Eddie and his No 2 Jason Tindall were chalk and cheese but their relationship worked.
“I remember one day we were  losing 3-0 against Notts County and I said to my friends, ‘I’m going home, I can’t be doing this’.
“I was new to league football and didn’t really know what I was doing but when I walked past our dressing room I went in and told the team what I thought of them.
“Eddie looked at me in disbelief and the next day he phoned me up to say he and Jason were resigning.
“About ten minutes later I thought, ‘Oh s**t, this is not right’.  I phoned his back and said, ‘I’m not accepting your resignations’.”
But Mitchell soon saw what a wise move it was keeping Howe. He said: “Eddie is very clever, very honest, and that doesn’t always suit people.
“But he’s also very hardworking and dedicated to achieving.
“He was the only person at the club who would pee me off in the mornings when he would get into work before me.
“I liked to lead from the front being the first one in and letting everyone know that was the case.
“But sometimes I’d drive around the corner around 7am, or earlier, and would go ‘f***’ when I’d see his car already there.”
Mitchell now owns Poole-based Elite Skills Arena, manufacturing hi-tech football training products used by the likes of Barcelona.

But he still misses his days at the Cherries when Howe was king.
Mitchell added: “We were both of a similar make-up  and he is a really loyal person — I really miss working with him.” More

Chelsea and Newcastle eyeing transfer swoop for brilliantly-named Champions League wonderkid who broke Man Utd hearts

NEWCASTLE have reportedly joined the transfer race chasing Manchester United’s brilliantly-named nemesis. But they could face competition from mega-spenders Chelsea for the talented teen.
Roony Bardghji is attracting transfer interest from around Europe – including Newcastle and ChelseaCredit: Rex
Roony Bardghji stunned the Red Devils in the Champions League on Wednesday night with his dramatic 87th-minute winner for Copenhagen.
That prompted superb chants of “Roony, Roony” from the home fans in a cheeky dig at United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
But the 17-year-old sensation was already gaining plenty of interest – and not just because he is a Football Manager wonderkid.
Chelsea were linked with the exciting winger back in 2021 – as were Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
And now, according to Jeunes Footeux, Newcastle – who look set to miss out on Ruben Neves in January – have sent scouts over to the Danish capital to watch Bardghji in action.
It is understood a Magpies scout was even in the crowd for Wednesday’s magic moment as he came off the bench to seal the memorable 4-3 victory.
Brighton, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leizpig are also said to be monitoring his incredible progress.
The fine finish past Andre Onana was Bardghji’s 11th goal in 24 appearances this season – and 15th in 57 games overall.

Born in Kuwait in 2005, he moved to Sweden seven years later and shone in Malmo’s academy before transferring to Copenhagen in 2020.
Bardghji made his Copenhagen senior debut just six days after his 16th birthday – then got his first goal just a week later.
The Sweden Under-21 international – who already has two Danish Superliga winner’s medals and lifted the Danish Cup last season – is under contract until December 2025.
But it seems inevitable he will have plenty of offers from some of Europe’s top clubs to leave before then.
Speaking after the youngster’s breakthrough in 2021, then-Copenhagen boss Jess Thorup said: “It is not the intention that they (Copenhagen’s young stars) should just be here for a few matches and then move on.
“They should preferably stay here for a few years and help Copenhagen achieve good results.
“But when the time is right and the really big clubs are there, then that can be the springboard.
“But right now, he’s just going to play a hell of a lot of games for Copenhagen and make a difference, and that’s hopefully what we’ll see.”

He scored 11 goals for the club and won the Premier League title in 2003 and 2007.
He was also part of the Manchester United team that won the FA Cup in 2004 and the League Cup in 2006.
After leaving United for Sunderland, he then went on to play for Fulham, Aston Villa and Cardiff.
The defender, 39, has embarked on a very different career path since leaving the game, however.

He now buys and sells luxury watches to a very exclusive clientele.
Kieran Richardson spoke about his new venture to the Steven Sulley Study podcast.
Richardson looked very different on the pod compared to his playing days, sporting a long man-bun and beard.
His identity appeared even further obscured by the designer sunglasses he was wearing.

Richardson spoke of the need to keep his clients private because of the risk of them becoming targeted by thieves.
He said: “You have to make sure you trust your dealer.
“I find with my background and who I am, people don’t feel I’m going to rump them and run away with £100,000 because I don’t need your £100,000.
“I get a lot of customers from the trust side and that’s fine. I have a lot of clients but don’t like to tell the big names – I don’t want to open that can of worms, these watches are proper assets.
“I’m private. I have massive clients, trust me – it’s different if they want to put it out there.
“I am thinking about people, not the pound notes. Safety.”
Richardson also told Sulley about his reasons for hanging up his boots in 2017 and the fact that he supports Arsenal despite coming through United’s youth set-up.
He said: “By the end of my career, it became a job, I fell out of love with it and lost that spark. I still enjoyed it but lost that love,” he explained.
“I watch football so much now – I didn’t watch it much as a footballer, I didn’t really care.
“Now as someone not playing, I enjoy being an Arsenal fan, I’m buying a season ticket next season.
“I don’t think there was a conflict of interests.

Mauricio Pochettino says CHELSEA to blame for Reece James asking to be left out of England squad after Southgate warning

England face Malta and North Macedonia in Euro 2024 qualifiers next week, having already secured their spot in Germany next summer.
And Blues boss Poch took responsibility for James’ omission – despite the defender’s recent return from injury.
James suffered a hamstring injury in training in August and was sidelined for two months.
The new Chelsea captain made his comeback as a late sub against Arsenal on October 21 then came on in the Brentford defeat.

He managed an hour as Chelsea beat Blackburn in the Carabao Cup and 77 minutes of Monday’s chaotic 4-1 victory at Tottenham.
But he is still not back to full match fitness and his club were keen to manage him closely in the final stages of his recovery.
Pochettino said: “It’s never the decision of the player.
“The medical staff, sports science and coaching staff always take the decisions, not the player.

“Reece is desperate to go to the national team and I only think this will be good for the national team and Chelsea also.
“But it’s not a decision by him, he is desperate to go.”
Southgate confessed he had planned to call up James for the final squad of 2023 to reintegrate him back into the side – especially after he missed the World Cup through injury and now with the pressure off the upcoming games.
And though the national team gaffer admitted he “understood” Chelsea and James’ decision, he also said it was a “risk” amid the strength in depth in his position.
Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier were included in the 26-man England squad named by Southgate on Thursday, with Trent Alexander-Arnold in and classed as a midfielder.
Southgate said: “I was hoping to call up Reece James but he doesn’t feel he’s quite ready.
“I understand that, he’s had a long path back from a number of injuries. He’s probably a bit cautious in that respect, but I can understand why.
“There is [competition for places] and that’s the risk. He’s only got one more squad before the Euros. So he knows that. We’ve got belief in what he can do.

“He completely understands [the risk]. He has only really been able to be with us in March for the first part of the camp. But that’s been because he keeps having these moments where he breaks down.
“He was very keen to make clear, ‘Look I don’t want you to think I don’t want to be there’. We had a really good long conversation and exchange of messages after that as well. But I’m very understanding.
“We want to have a fit Reece James that can play consecutive games, because we can only take 23 to a finals.
“Physical reliability is going to be really important. I think we will always manage a player as well as we can but there is a reality around his training at the moment. He plays and there’s a couple of days’ recovery.

“We would have loved to have him with us, don’t get me wrong. But I’m perfectly calm with the conversation.”
James’ Chelsea team-mate Raheem Sterling was overlooked once more by Southgate while Ben White also failed to convince Southgate he deserved a call-up. More

Mauricio Pochettino will NOT decide on Chelsea transfers in January with board keen for boss to ‘focus on coaching’

CHELSEA manager Mauricio Pochettino will not have influence in the club’s transfer activity this January. The Blues have already spent over £1billion in the last three transfer windows after owner Todd Boehly took over in the summer last year.

According to transfer insider David Ornstein, the West Londoners will go back in the next market for more reinforcement.
This time Chelsea are hoping to sign an “elite” striker but may have to opt for a versatile forward that can spearhead the attack instead.
However, recruitment will be handled exclusively by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart with support from Boehly.
Pochettino will have “an input” but very limited as he won’t even be able to veto Winstanley and Stewart’s choices.

That is because the Chelsea hierarchy want the Argentine tactician to focus on coaching the team after a turbulent start to the season.
Pochettino’s side has already been linked with the likes of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
However, the ex-Tottenham manager is also set to welcome Christopher Nkunku back from knee injury for the second half of the season.
Ornstein wrote for The Athletic: “Lautaro Martinez, Benjamin Sesko, Evan Ferguson and Victor Boniface are mentioned to me a lot by people who work in recruitment.

“The demand continues to outstrip the supply. It’s not absolutely guaranteed that clubs such as Chelsea end up signing a pure No 9… Maybe they instead go for a more flexible forward who can contribute goals.
“Chelsea also have Christopher Nkunku coming back, although they will probably lose Nicolas Jackson to the AFCON.
“Their recruitment will be led by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, with support from the owners.
“My understanding is that Mauricio Pochettino will have an input but that’s about it; no veto, increased power or anything like that.

“Chelsea want him to focus on coaching the team and despite some of their results so far this season, I think he’s showing promising signs and will do a really good job.
“There is a very good chance they will recruit somebody in attack this January and if it’s going to be a No9 the idea would be for it to be an elite one, because they already have Jackson and Armando Broja who will continue to develop.
“It’s clear they need more potency up front if they are to start scoring more goals, so you can understand why they’re looking to the market.” More
