Wolves 2 Tottenham 1: More agony for Spurs as two-injury time strikes complete dramatic comeback for hosts

WHEN it rains, it pours.Ange Postecoglou, robbed of key men to injury and suspension, looked like he would pull of an impressive victory at Molineux with his patched-up side, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s early strike.

But their bad luck kept on coming as they somehow lost thanks to TWO injury-time goals.
The first was a stunner from supersub Pablo Sarabia, belting into the near post.
Sarabia then turned provider on 90+7 as he crossed for Mario Lemina to turn home.
It sent Molineux potty as the coaching staff ran onto the pitch in celebration as Postecoglou was forced to “cop it”, as the Aussie would say.

It was certainly rough, given how his injury and suspension-hit side had coped for the majority of the game.
All eyes were on how Wolves might expose the Aussie’s patched-up defence that was considerably slower without the jet-heeled Van de Ven.
But Gary O’Neil’s men barely had the ball in the opening exchanges, and could do little more than watch as Johnson completed a fine team goal for the visitors.
It was the £47.5million summer signing’s first Spurs strike and it was he who began the move when picking it up out wide.

Eventually the ball came to Dejan Kulusevski who slipped in Pedro Porro with a clever flick round the back of Wolves’ backline.
The Spaniard then picked out Johnson was lurking in the six-yard area to tuck away his first goal since netting for Nottingham Forest in their 1-1 draw with Wolves on April Fool’s Day.
Johnson was the man sacrificed around the half hour when Cristian Romero was sent off in Monday’s catastrophic defeat to Chelsea.
It was a shame for the Welshman who had looked to have justified his place ahead of Richarlison – who is now out for a month at least after groin surgery – with an exciting cameo down the left.
Every time the ball came to Johnson in those early stage against the Blues – before it all went so wrong – you could feel the electricity of expectation among the fans that the 22-year-old might make something happen.
His selection feels like the next progression in this Postecoglou side, though sadly he will have to do it without Maddison for the foreseeable future.
Postecoglou was asked on Friday if he would be tempted to rein in his attacking approach for this game given his lengthy absentee list.

His witty retort was that apart from chocolate, he was pretty good at resisting temptation, and indeed he stuck with his high line despite Dier and Davies’ relative lack of pace.
And really, that pairing was untroubled for most of the first half, barring the odd moment.
Davies put in a good block to deflect an Rayan Ait-Nouri’s shot, while the ever-dependable Guglielmo Vicario pushed wide Mario Lemina’s drive.
Postecoglou’s selection headache was made worse just before half-time as Yves Bissouma was booked for catching Mario Lemina.
You could tell from the Malian’s face that he instantly knew what it meant: a one-game ban for reaching five yellow cards, ruling him out of Aston Villa at home after the international break.
O’Neil’s men pushed for a leveller at the break with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde blazing over and Dier blocking well to deny Matheus Cunha.

Their best chance fell to the in-form Hwang Hee-Chan, who suddenly found himself with a clear sight of goal when Joao Gomes’ deflected shot fell to him, but the South Korean fired wide.
Bissouma was a tad fortunate not to pick up a second yellow with a late tackle and Postecoglou responded by subbing him for Gio Lo Celso.
The Argentine had been the most like-for-like replacement for Maddison but the fact he did not start here does not bode well for his long-term future.
Wolves brought on battering ram Sasa Kalajdzic towards the end and the 6ft7ins Austrian should have done better with a free header.
Jose Sa then pulled off a fine sprawling save to deny Lo Celso from wrapping up the three points.
It proved to be a vital intervention as just into injury time, sub Sarabia took centre-stage.
His goal was a thing of beauty, as he controlled Matheus Cunha’s pass with his right foot and then crashed in a volley with his left in the same movement.
Sarabia was mobbed by his team-mates in the corner of the Stan Cullis Stand – but there was more to come.
The Spaniard fired in a cross deep into injury time and Lemina got the faintest of touches to find the corner – and KO Postecoglou’s walking wounded.

I was one of the original Premier League foreign stars but retired to run a bar and was convinced I was a time traveller

ANDERS LIMPAR was one of the 13 original foreign players in the Premier League. And that is just about the most regular part of his incredible story – which includes ‘time travelling’ two years into the future for two bonkers days.

The Swedish winger came through the ranks at Brommapojkarna and then Orgryte in his homeland before spells with Young Boys and Cremonese.
His one season in Italy saw him crowned the third-best foreign player – behind only Diego Maradona and Lothar Matthaus.
And that earned him his £1million transfer to Highbury in 1990.
Limpar made an immediate impact in North London, scoring crucial goals including the one that prompted the famous Old Trafford brawl in October 1990.

Arsenal went on to win the First Division in his debut season in England under George Graham, which saw him score 13 goals in all competitions including a hat-trick against Coventry on the final day.

Sweden’s 1991 player of the year struggled with injuries in his subsequent seasons – although he did score a 40-yard chip against Liverpool.
Limpar was then just one of just 13 foreign players across the 22 teams when the Premier League launched in 1992 alongside Arsenal team-mate John Jensen and Manchester United pair Peter Schmeichel and Andrei Kanchelskis.
However, he was released when his contract expired in 1994 with 20 goals from 116 appearances, but he remains a popular figure for his impact across four seasons with the Gunners.

He described his time under Graham as like “living in Iraq under Saddam” in a furious blast.
Limpar then had three years with Everton where he won the FA Cup and a short stint at Birmingham before eventually finishing his career in 2001 back at Brommapojkarna in Stockholm.
And the 58-cap Sweden international soon swapped boots for bottles, opening up his very own bar called The Limp Bar.
It closed down a few years later, though, and he then dabbled in gambling – running his own betting site.
His most successful business venture, though, has been Super Lock, a company co-founded by Limpar and Mikael Crona that produces plastic boxes.
However, Limpar’s most incredible journey came when he was hoodwinked into believing he had legitimately time travelled in an actual time machine.
The former footballer was on the receiving end of an elaborate two-day TV prank that cost a staggering £200,000 – 20 times show Blasningen’s usual budget – and included paying to hire actors, fighter jet pilots and an entire airport.
Limpar told Ladbrokes Fanzone: “There were 20 guys involved, all to fool me, and I just bit. I was perfect for them.
We thought we were dead… we were told they’d had funerals for usAnders Limpar
“I believed I was flying in a time machine because we were already in an actual plane from Gothenburg to launch our new beer.
“There were these two ‘scientists’ on the flight who were talking about being able to time travel, and the plane was diving up and down all over the place.
“I can laugh at it all now, but at the time it was really, really scary. They involved actual jet fighters to guide us into Stockholm.
“We could hear everything over the radio, ‘Where have you been?! You’ve just shown up on the radar!’
“The whole production was so cleverly done. I felt it was all real. It was absolutely crazy. We had two doctors on board in case I flipped. I’m just thinking, ‘What the f*** is going on?!’
“This science guy just goes, ‘I’ve done it. I’ve flown two years in time.’
“I went into the pilot shouting at him, demanding to speak to the tower. He ordered me to go back and put my seatbelt on.
“We were fighting with them in the plane because we wanted to know what was going on.”

Limpar continued: “It was such a horrible feeling. We thought we were dead. When we landed, we were told they’d had funerals for us and everything.
“They showed us newspapers – which obviously weren’t real – where crazy things had apparently happened. They told us Norway had won the World Cup in 1998.
“I was so glad when the guy finally showed up to tell us it was all a prank. I felt like I’d had a rucksack full of stones just fall off my back, I was so relieved.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was happy, of course, but I felt ridiculous for something like half an hour afterwards, to even think that I was flying two years into the future.
“But for years afterwards I was angry with it all because it made me a laughing stock in Sweden. I wasn’t happy with that at all. That’s why, when they asked me if they could sell the whole thing as a DVD, I said no.
“Look, it was an incredible prank, so funny when I look back now, and I felt so many emotions at the time.”
Fast forward – or maybe backward – a few more years and at the tender age of 56, Limpar made a shock return to the football field.

Best football weekend away day revealed with Liverpool beating Man Utd while shock team comes out on top in London

LIVERPOOL and Newcastle have crushed the Manchester giants and the London elite in a Premier League table based on the whole away-day experience for fans. And Bournemouth and Brighton might be day-trip delights for holiday-makers but they seem to be shore losers with many supporters.
Liverpool’s Anfield edged out Newcastle and Brentford as top choice for away fans, judged on accessibility, affordability and social sceneCredit: Rex
Man Utd were only seventh but well ahead of neighbours City in the ratingsCredit: Getty

That’s according to new data that homes in on a travel hat-trick – ease of getting there, cost and the social scene.
In other words, cheap bars and a close train station are match-winners in this table, all of which left Treble winners but big chargers Manchester City THIRD BOTTOM.
Liverpool’s score of 65 out of 100 pipped the 64.3 for Newcastle on top of the pile.
The Reds roared to victory mainly thanks to having the cheapest match tickets –  just £9 for the upper main stand.

That was good enough to fend off Newcastle’s abundance of bars, cheap pints and famed night-life.
And although each team’s city plays a huge part, capital giants Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were only in mid-table.

Spurs suffer from being 8.1 miles from London’s central rail terminus at Waterloo in the data compiled by KingCasinoBonus.
Instead, Brentford – just 6.4 miles from Stamford Bridge – flies the flag for London in third place on 63.9.

Wolves came in fourth – courtesy of offering the cheapest city to visit overall, helped by an average hotel price of £88 a night.
And Sheffield United complete the top five – also scoring above 63.
Another major reason Wolves and the Blades  are shining – in this table at least – is that they are both just 0.8miles from the nearest rail station.
The Red Devils are seventh – a place about their position in the “real table” – while Birmingham’s sole Prem representatives Aston Villa are down in tenth.
And Liverpool’s neighbours Everton are only 12th on 53.4 – more than 11 points adrift of neighbours Liverpool.
Burnley paid for their relative lack of facilities with a lowly 14th placing in 14th.
Meanwhile, West Ham are the capital’s worst-performing Prem club, just 17th on 48.4.
Then come Pep Guardiola’s champs, only ahead of the Cherries and the Seagulls.
City charge £5.30 for a pint at the Etihad – a staggering difference from the £3.40 price at Old Trafford.
Arsenal supporters can enjoy their fine home record but the Emirates Stadium only comes in eighth-best on the list of Prem away-day venuesCredit: Getty
In fact, City’s amenities were 68 per cent more expensive overall than United’s.
But it’s Brighton who are bottom by far on 27.5 – 19.8 below south coast rivals Bournemouth.
That’s down to costlier hotels and a lack of take-aways, which might encourage both the cruel chant, “Is that all you can takeaway?” and the realistic answer: “At those prices, yes!”

Ionut Marin, Chief Editor of KingCasinoBonus said: “The Premier League is one of the most renowned events in football, with fans travelling from across the globe each weekend to cheer on their teams – and some spending a small fortune to do so.
“Big city clubs such as London and Manchester have often been the preferred destinations for fans looking to treat themselves to a weekend of football fun, so it was surprising to find clubs such as Liverpool and Newcastle topping the list.”  More

Prem referees chiefs advertise hardest job in football as they step up bid to end VAR chaos… with NO experience required

REFS’ chiefs have placed an ADVERT for people to take on football’s toughest job as VARs.The PGMOL are hunting for brave souls with little or no experience.

Luis Diaz’s legitimate goal was wrongly chalked off after a VAR howler
And the job ad is asking for people who can: “PROVIDE clear communication under pressure,” and are “capable of SELF-REFLECTION on how they have performed.”
“IDENTIFY when VAR needs to intervene,” and have the “ability to FOCUS and have great communication skills.”
An advert is circulating among around 75 refs at elite level in the men’s and women’s game to recruit new “Specialist VAR” staff.
It comes as VAR is under the biggest scrutiny since launching in 2016.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both issued strong statements this season, demanding reform.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta branded VAR calls “disgraceful” after Anthony Gordon’s Newcastle winner was allowed to stand last Saturday.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp demanded a replay after Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly ruled out for offside in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.
And Wolves boss Gary O’Neil accused VAR of huge blunders which have cost his side points.

PGMOL boss Howard Webb has made a number of apologies — including over the Diaz cock-up.
VAR has also been criticised for lengthy delays, including one of more than SEVEN minutes in Chelsea’s 4-1 win at Tottenham on Monday.
That game stretched to almost 112 minutes and included two sendings off and FIVE disallowed goals.
Insiders at the PGMOL say officials are taking longer to make up their minds on decisions because they are frightened of the public backlash should they make a mistake.
There is also a growing feeling among officials they are overstretched with the expansion of roles now associated with every Prem game.
    GIVEN A REF RIDE
This weekend alone four referees are doubling up and working on both Saturday and Sunday in the top flight alone.
Paul Tierney is VAR for Saturday’s lunchtime clash between Wolves and Tottenham before taking charge of Liverpool versus Brentford on Sunday at 2pm.
John Brooks is VAR at Bournemouth’s home game with Newcastle at 5.30pm on Saturday evening from Stockley Park in North-West London and referee at Brighton against Sheffield United the day after.
He will be in partnership over a two-day working weekend with Chris Kavanagh who is in the middle at Bournemouth before acting as VAR while Brooks referees at Brighton less than 24 hours later.
Relative rookie Michael Salisbury, who only joined the Premier League list last year, is VAR for Arsenal vs Burnley then referee for West Ham against Nottingham Forest at 2pm on Sunday.
