“And then you gotta keep it going Chappers because City will just keep going, keep doing what they’re doing, they wear you down.
“But you’ve got to try and wear them down.”
Chelsea did exactly that in Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit 10th in the Premier League with 16 points, starting the season with four wins, four draws and four losses in their opening 12 games.
But their best games have been against the top sides.
Chelsea have drawn against Arsenal, Liverpool and now City plus beating Tottenham 4-1 last week.
Meanwhile, Poch’s side struggle to break down the defences of the teams outside the top six who do not give them a lot of space to run for the goal.
They lost 3-1 to West Ham, 2-0 to Brentford and 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. More

Jackson came under fire from Shearer following Chelsea’s home defeat to Brentford at the end of October.
He has since scored four goals in three matches for the Blues, including a hat-trick against Tottenham last week.
Meanwhile, the club reached out to Shearer regarding his comments, although he claims they agreed that what he said was not “over the top”.
“I mean the game just had everything from start to finish,” he said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“It was entertaining and there were so many impressive performances, particularly from the guys in a Chelsea shirt.
“Jackson I agree, I was critical of his lack of movement a few weeks ago.
“I got a text from Chelsea to say that they didn’t think it was over the top and that they have been working on one or two things in and around that.
“He was a lot better today and full of confidence after what happened earlier in the week and that showed today.

“It was a great game for everyone to watch. I think for the fans that is important to see those small steps. The coaching, we all know what Poch is like, he is a very good coach and he is the right man.
“They are definitely improving and they seem to be understanding what he wants.”
Jackson added to his hat-trick against Spurs with a goal in Sunday’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Manchester City.
Shearer’s previous comments had also caught the attention of Chelsea captain Reece James.
The defender came to Jackson’s defence ahead of the City clash and declared he never doubted the forward.
Jackson now has seven goals to his name following his £32million move from Villarreal in the summer. More

How Chelsea won big as £40m Cole Palmer dazzles while £125m Mason Mount and Kai Havertz toil at Man Utd and Arsenal

CHELSEA’S transfer business has been heavily criticised since Todd Boehly took over as owner in May last year. But just 11 games into his Blues career, the club seem to have made one of the signings of the summer in Cole Palmer.

Mason Mount has not yet scored for Man UtdCredit: Getty
Chelsea bought the attacking midfielder for £40million after selling struggling duo Mason Mount to Manchester United and Kai Havertz to Arsenal for a combined fee of £125m.
Palmer has more than filled their boots and is making an attack that struggled for goals last season exciting to watch.
The 21-year-old has already found the back of the net four times and registered the same amount of assists in Chelsea blue this campaign.
He has recently been the bright spark in victories over Burnley and Tottenham, while also impressing against Arsenal.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
In the 4-4 thriller at Stamford Bridge versus Manchester City, Palmer was superb and came back to haunt his former employers by converting a last-gasp penalty to earn Chelsea a point.
He is showing Pep Guardiola why he would no longer wait to get more first-team opportunities and he is proving that Chelsea have upgraded.
The Man Utd man has struggled with injuries this term, playing eight matches and just 401 minutes in the Premier League.
But Mount is yet to show his new fans his best form, failing to get a goal or assist.

Palmer’s stats are far more impressive than Havertz’s and Mount’s this term
He has also created just five chances, which is nine fewer than Palmer has managed and he averages one less per 90.
Mount isn’t playing as far forward as his rival and has won plenty more tackles and duels.
He’s also completed way less passes in the opponents’ half than Palmer, highlighting that he is being used in deep build-up by Erik ten Hag.
But Mount is yet to settle into the role and has completed far fewer passes, averaging 20.65 in comparison to Palmer’s 42.1 per 90 minutes.
It’s a similar story for Havertz, who only has one penalty goal and one assist since joining Arsenal for £65m.
He’s created nine chances to Palmer’s 14 and has completed one dribble showing he can’t carry his side up the pitch with weaving runs like the Chelsea man can.
It’s also a damming read for Havertz as he has had 19 more touches in the opposition’s box than the Englishman but is struggling to get shots on target with one only testing a keeper this season.
The ex-Bayer Leverksuen man is like Mount impressing in the tackle and winning duels when deeper.
But the ex-Chelsea duo are both no longer viewed as goalscorers or creative forces by their managers.
In fact, both Mount and Havertz are yet to create a big chance for their new teams.
And this is no surprise after the Arsenal man created only five big chances and the United midfielder just three last term when at Chelsea together.
    Read More on The Sun
Palmer’s creativity and ability to produce high up the pitch has led to Gareth Southgate giving him his first senior England call-up.
And Mauricio Pochettino’s exchange of Mount and Havertz for a more direct attacker is paying off.
Palmer is far more effective per 90 than Mount and Havertz More

It is hoped Osimhen can solve the club’s striking woes and replace Nicolas Jackson in attack for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Osimhen is currently out of contract in 2025 despite firing Napoli to the Serie A title last season as top scorer with 26 league goals.
He has continued his form this term, scoring six goals in eight Serie A matches before a hamstring injury sidelined him in October. More

It’s also understood that Ten Hag would be willing to listen to offers for Antony, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho as he looks to refresh his attacking options.
A United source explained Ten Hag’s eyes remain “very firmly” fixed on securing a Champions League place – something he is convinced his squad can achieve, especially after the weekend win over Luton.
Our source said: “January will be a big month for United. The deal involving Sir Jim should be done by then, and this will free up funds for Ten Hag to reset his squad.
“He’s targeting a forward who can play on either flank and a right full-back.
    Read More on Man Utd
“There’s a massive question mark over Sancho and Martial – neither are thought to be a part of the manager’s long-term plans. Both could move on.
“Despite the difficulties of the first few weeks of the season, Ten Hag remains very confident and will be using the international break to try and work with the wider squad.
“He’s convinced they can finish in the top four. Even though their form has been erratic, they are still within touching distance of those places. Now they have to kick on.
“Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team won’t be coming in and demanding changes to the management. Ten Hag will get time to prove he’s the person to take the club back to past glories.”

Meanwhile SunSport can reveal that Scott McTominay has now “secured his future at the club” having almost left in the summer.
Our source added: “Ten Hag needs Scott in his team. There’s no chance he’d let him go now.
“Scott is a key part of the side now as is Harry Maguire. In fact they are two of the first names on the team sheet. Things change fast in football.” More
