France boss Didier Deschamps takes cheeky dig at Arsenal as he reveals major issue with William Saliba

FRANCE boss Didier Deschamps appears to have taken a cheeky dig at Arsenal while discussing an issue with William Saliba. The French defender, 22, has finally become a key man at the Gunners under Mikel Arteta after his initial struggles.

He has struggled to become a regular starter for France under Didier DeschampsCredit: AFP
He arrived at the Emirates in a £27m move from Saint-Etienne in 2019 but was instantly loaned back to his former club.
He then spent the following two years back in his homeland with further loan stints at Nice and Marseille before Arteta made him a first-team regular last term.
Saliba’s displays helped Arsenal mount their impressive title challenge, which ultimately ended unsuccessfully, to Manchester City and he has continued to shine this campaign.
And his performances have also been rewarded on the international stage, winning ten caps for France so far having made his debut in 2022 and going to the Qatar World Cup.

But, despite Raphael Varane’s retirement from Les Bleus, Saliba is struggling to become a regular in his country’s starting XI.
He has been selected for France’s upcoming matches with Gibraltar and Greece, but ahead of them, Deschamps explained that the star does not face the same level of competition for a place at Arsenal as he does for his country.
He said: “He hasn’t had a lot of game time with us.
“He is performing well for his club. At international level, he hasn’t always found himself in the best conditions in matches where I’ve rotated a lot.”

Deschamps then added: “He isn’t in the same psychological situation with his club, where he doesn’t ask himself if he’ll play at the weekend.
“When he has game time with us, he tells himself he needs to play well because there are others behind him.
“He is not in a psychological situation that is the same as at his club. He has everything he needs to take the next step.”
Saliba will be battling with the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, Jean Clair-Todibo, Benjamin Pavard and Ibrahima Konate for a start on Saturday when his nation take on Gibraltar. More

Ahead of their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, those unavailable included Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Harvey Barnes, Sandro Tonali and Jacob Murphy.
Miguel Almiron was then replaced after half an hour with an injury of his own.
And Swiss defender Fabian Schar withdrew from international duty on Wednesday due to a knock.
It leaves Newcastle in a desperate situation with regards to the depth of their squad heading into a busy schedule.

They are still in all four competitions – the Premier League, Carabao Cup, Champions League and FA Cup.
According to Tutto Atalanta, Newcastle are preparing to address those issues with a £35million bid for Brazilian holding midfielder Ederson, 24.
The Magpies are understood to have made the “first approaches” to sign the player.
And Atalanta are said to be calm about the situation as they eye a profit for the man they brought in from Salernitana for around £18m in January 2022.

The Italians will listen to “monstrous offers” that are “impossible to refuse”, but will not be entertained by any proposal less than £35m.
It remains unclear whether a January sale is on the table, with Newcastle keen for mid-season reinforcements.
Ederson has contributed five goals and one assists in 16 appearances so far this season.
He is yet to make his debut for Brazil’s senior side, but has earned one cap for the U20s. More

I’m ex-Premier League star who was forced to train with Jude Bellingham as a punishment, then I became his driver

KEEPER David Stockdale has turned the clock back 20 years and returned to York City – the league club who gave him his debut on May 3, 2003 at Oxford. The 38-year-old is between the sticks at his old club again but is also part of manager Neal Ardley’s management team as head of recruitment.

Bellingham is now considered one of the world’s very best playersCredit: Rex
In between his two stints at York, Stockdale has been on quite an adventure.
His career has involved 18 clubs (11 on loan) and playing in each of the top seven tiers of English football.
He came within a whisker of playing for Fabio Capello’s England in 2011, made 441 league appearances in the top four tiers including 59 in the Premier League.
It was also during a bleak personal career low at Birmingham in 2017 when he was banished by the management to play with the Under-18s, where this proud Yorkshireman took it upon himself to help the kids in the Brum academy.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Each morning he was told he had to be in at 8am – and was being ‘clocked in’ and checked by Birmingham management aids – where he would go and collect a budding teen called Jude Bellingham en route to training.
He built up a wonderful friendship with the Bellingham family that remains as strong today.
Stockdale said: “Being thrown into train with the Under-18s at Birmingham, I embraced it and worked with them. I was never once late.
“Obviously Jude couldn’t drive, so I was more than happy to pick him up and take him into training. As a result I became friends with his mum and dad and the rest of the family.

“I cannot speak highly enough about them as a family. They are so grounded.
“Even more impressive is that despite what Jude has done over the past four years, all of the family haven’t changed one bit.
“I’m delighted to see his brother Jobe’s progress at Sunderland too. What the boys are doing at the moment is an extraordinary story. I am so proud of them.”
Stockdale’s move to Birmingham turned sour after he was frozen out by manager Garry Monk and told to train with the kids at Wast Hills.
He said: “I switched from Brighton to Birmingham where I was offered a three-year contact.
“It meant a lot to me because it gave me the stability for my children who were just about to start their key secondary school education.
“There are many who maybe thought my move from Brighton to Birmingham was money motivated.
“The truth is that it was all about my family. I was being offered a three-year contact at St Andrew’s rather than one year at Albion.
“In hindsight my move to Birmingham ended up being a nightmare, but my daughter, Molly, has absolutely blitzed her way through her ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels and now has got to be able to pick the university of her choice, so that has been a huge plus factor.
“It was very frustrating because I wanted to play, but the manager didn’t want me in the squad.
“I tried to switch clubs, but the finances always seemed to break down. I did get loan moves to Southend and then Wycombe.
“It was like a breath of fresh air working with Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe. In the end it came to a head and I actually agreed to lose £1,600 a week to play at Wycombe.”
Humble Stockdale has a refreshing attitude when reflecting on the last two decades in the game.
“For me, it’s far more important that I am remembered at the clubs I have been with and the players and staff I have met and worked with that they have thought of me as being a decent lad rather than a decent player.
“Throughout my career I have dedicated myself to being as professional as possible.
“Football is wonderful for a mix of players enjoying the banter and camaraderie, but it’s knowing the line between the fun and joking and the serious side of playing.
“Over 20 years I have played for 18 clubs (11 on loan) and I have made so many life-long friends. It’s been a great journey.
“It may seem like I have played for a lot of teams, but I have made a lot of the loan moves because I’ve wanted to play football.
“I try to impress on so many youngsters the fact that a football career is short and in years to come you will want to look back and remember playing rather than sitting on the bench.”
He came within a fraction of playing for England – having been called up for several of Capello’s Three Lions squads.
“Manager Fabio Capello had promised that all the players would get minutes during England’s friendly against Sweden in 2011.
“During the second half, both myself and other sub keeper Scott Carson agreed to run up the touchline to remind Fabio and get in his eyeline!
“Scott went one way and I went the other. The next thing, Scott got the nod to go on. To this day I always think if I had gone where Scott did, I would have had an England cap!
“But putting aside the fact I didn’t get any game time, the fact I was in several England squads was something no one can ever take away.
“I was in awe of playing alongside some of this country’s greatest ever players – it was an absolute privilege.”
“Stocky” can be summed up by his reaction after he was part of Wycombe’s play-off final defeat against Sunderland in 2022.
He said: “As you can imagine, everyone was gutted – including my son Billy who was in tears.
“But I made sure we stayed to the end and watched Sunderland lift the trophy. I told him that in defeat you can watch and appreciate even more where they are lifting the trophy.
“It was lovely at Sheffield Wednesday last season and being part of the club winning the League One play-off final.
“The Wednesday players had known about my story with Billy at Wycombe, so it was lovely when Barry Bannan felt a wonderful extra emotion for my lad with tears of joy this time.”
Outside York City, Stockdale set up MDB13 Properties Ltd in 2017, running it with his wife Katie.
    Read More on The Sun
He also owns 50 per cent of local football club Droitwich Spa in the West Midlands.
And Stockdale has realised a big ambition to take the club back to an improved Droitwich home after years of having to play outside the area with poor facilities. More

Jadon Sancho could replace superstar in Saudi Arabia transfer as Man Utd ‘snub Steven Gerrard’s side’

The winger no longer trains or interacts with Ten Hag’s senior squad as reports suggest he has refused to apologise to his head coach even though that could have reinstated him in the team.
And according to Caught Offside, the England international could go to Saudi Arabia to replace Neymar at Al-Hilal.
The Saudi giants are prioritising a replacement for the Brazil international after a serious injury ruled him out for 10 months.
Jorge Jesus’ side isn’t necessarily looking for a “like-for-like profile”.
    Read More on Man Utd
Sancho has failed to stand out at United ever since his £73million arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
The 23-year-old has only amassed a mere 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances.
But the forward shone bright during his four-year stint at Dortmund as he registered a staggering 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 matches.
Sancho, though, hasn’t shown much interest in moving to Saudi Arabia any time soon.

Saudi clubs, on the other hand, showed interest after he fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq made an enquiry but United wanted a loan with a £50m obligation to buy.
Sancho has also attracted interest from Europe with Juventus keeping tabs, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
But many teams prefer a straight loan or similar deal with an option to buy. More

Chelsea face prospect of playing AWAY from Stamford Bridge for at least four years after latest new stadium blow

CHELSEA face the prospect of having no home ground for up to FOUR years after Todd Boehly suffered another blow. The potential plan to rebuild at nearby Earls Court has gone down like a lead balloon.
Chelsea owner Boehly is considering both options of revamping the Bridge or moving away completely
The hopes for a new stadium in Earls Court will not materialise
Todd Boehly aims to continue his limitless spending on either a revamped Bridge or new ground altogether.
The American owners were considering a cutting-edge state-of-the-art stadium in Earls Court to go alongside their brand new team.
However, this is now out the question.
The Athletic reported that Chelsea are not in talks to purchase the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre site for a potential relocation.
    READ MORE CHELSEA NEWS
Earls Court Development Company (ECDC) published the updated version of their masterplan for the 40-acre multi-billion pound project in south west London on Wednesday.
In fact, the site will be used to construct 4,000 new homes, an extensive retail and office space, three large performance venues and an urban park.
This follows reports in March that the ECDC publicly rejected suggestions that the Premier League side’s owners could purchase it.
And they’ve now double downed, stating: “We categorically deny that there are any talks taking place with Chelsea FC about a stadium relocation to the Earls Court site.”

As a result, Chelsea will be forced to renovate Stamford Bridge.
But construction of a new stadium on the same site is expected to take four years to complete, as they plan to jump from the current capacity of 41,000 to 61-000.
As a result, Chelsea would be forced to play elsewhere for at least some of that time.
But there is no credible space within three miles of their current home.
The club have not committed to building on the current stadium, despite finalising a land deal to purchase the 1.2-acre area adjacent to the ground from Stoll Veterans Housing Charity last month.
Any plan to build on site requires permission from the Chelsea Pitch Owners, a group of 13,000 fans who own the freehold. More

According to Tipsbladet, the Toon are preparing an offer worth more than £58million for Diomande as the winter market fast approaches.
Sporting, however, have set a £70m release clause for the centre-back.
Newcastle, though, are looking to test the waters for the Ivory Coast international, who is considered the best African prospect playing in Europe.
And the 19-year-old’s former club Midtjylland are looking at a cash windfall from a potential deal.

That is because the Danish giants included a resale clause in the deal with Sporting after they sold him for £6.5m in January.
In fact, Midtjylland will make 20 per cent of the final price if the Portuguese giants sell Diomande before his contract runs out in 2027.
Manchester City as well as Arsenal have also been linked ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal make fringe player ‘untouchable’ as Champions League giants ‘make approach’ for defender

He has played 16 times for Mikel Arteta’s side, scoring one goal.
But although he has started two Premier League games so far this season, he remains a fringe player as Gabriel and William Saliba are the trusted centre-back partnership.
As a result, Calcio Mercato journalist Daniele Longo has claimed both AC Milan and Roma are interested in bringing him in on loan.
It is understood they have proposed January deals to Arsenal.

However, the Premier League side have made it clear he is not for sale.
Arteta’s men are light in the centre of defence.
This is because of the long-term injury to new signing Jurrien Timber – who was ruled out in August with an ACL tear and is not expected back any time soon.
Ben White can fill in as a fourth-choice centre-half if two of Saliba, Gabriel and Kiwior are unavailable.
