Premier League ‘set for huge change to prize money split giving top clubs MORE cash’ days after Everton punishment

THE Premier League’s “Big Six” are in line to receive an even bigger chunk of prize money, a report claims. England’s top flight operates on a system of 1.6:1 and Manchester City last season took £161.3million in prize money for winning the league.

This means they earned 1.6 times the £100.3m that 20th-placed Southampton did.
But according to the Daily Telegraph, this format could now be ripped up – and the Big Six stand to profit under a revised model.
The report claims from the 2025-26 season, Premier League prize money is set to be distributed via a 1.8:1 ratio.
It would pave the way for potentially tens of extra millions going to the league’s biggest sides.

The revised “calibration” is down to the Consumer Prices Index and the international growth of the Premier League.
This comes just days after Everton were hit with a ten-point deduction for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
As a result, it plunged the Toffees into 19th and facing a relegation battle.
They could also face a further nine-point deduction if three clubs are successful in £300million worth of compensation claims.

The report does add that a higher rate of inflation could mean smaller clubs get a more favourable rate next season.
All Prem clubs are preparing to radically change the league on Tuesday when they are due to vote on a New Deal For Football.
The EFL is due to get an extra £130m in funding – but the exact nature of how that money is made up remains undecided.

Arsenal travel to face Brentford at 5:30pmCredit: Getty
City vs Liverpool was originally set to be broadcast on Sky Sports at 5:30pm next Saturday, but it has been moved forward to 12:30pm.
That means Brentford’s clash with Arsenal, originally set to be shown on TNT Sports at lunchtime, has been pushed back to the evening slot.
Traditionally, TNT Sports will broadcast the first Premier League match of the day every Saturday while Sky Sports show the 5:30pm fixture.
However, that will change next week when Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp come face to face at 12:30pm on Sky Sports Premier League.

Brentford will then host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal later that evening – live on TNT Sports.
Why have the fixtures been swapped?
The two Premier League fixtures were swapped because a local safety advisory group in Manchester – which includes members of the police – were concerned about the prospect of an early evening kick-off.
There have been several issues with fan trouble and behaviour surrounding the fixture in the past, so Premier League chiefs made the decision to bring the match forward.
Amid concerns about fan safety at the Etihad Stadium, Liverpool’s ticket allocation was cut by 20 per cent from 3,000 seats to 2,400 last season.

Man City vs Liverpool: Treble winners host Klopp’s red-hot men in a tasty lunchtime Prem battle for top spot – team news

PREMIER LEAGUE football is back with a bang as Manchester City host Liverpool at the Etihad – and top spot is up for grabs. Some would argue that the Treble winners haven’t been firing on all cylinders this season having already lost twice in the league.

And that evidence was further supported when Pep Guardiola’s men were forced to share the spoils in a 4-4 thriller against Chelsea just before the international break.
However, City still find themselves sitting pretty at the summit of the table – reclaiming top spot from Tottenham who had occupied it for a number of weeks.
But breathing down their necks is a Liverpool side with the joint-best defence in the division and the Reds are fresh from thumping Brentford 3-0 at Anfield.
With just a point separating the two English giants, it promises to be nothing short of entertaining, especially if VAR makes its unpopular appearance.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and are at risk of crashing out of the Champions League in the group stages.
Erik ten Hag is now eager to strengthen his squad in January, with several stars already on his transfer wishlist.
And according to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Griezmann is considered a top target.
United officials have travelled to Spain to hold discussions with the Frenchman’s entourage over a potential transfer.

In an attempt to lure him to the Premier League, they have allegedly offered to triple Griezmann’s Atletico Madrid salary, which will see him earn around £350,000 per week.
The report also adds that the striker has a £21.9million (€25m) release clause, making him an affordable target.
Griezmann first joined Atletico Madrid in 2014 after completing a £24m transfer from Real Sociedad.
He left to sign for Barcelona after they activated his £105m buy-out clause in 2019, but experienced a dip in form.

Man Utd fans hail ‘agent’ Bruno Fernandes as he publicly plants transfer seed into Portugal team-mate’s head

MANCHESTER UNITED fans hailed “agent” Bruno Fernandes for publicly planting a transfer seed. The Red Devils captain, 29, is currently on international duty with Portugal.

And during the camp, he openly discussed the idea of linking up with Portuguese sensation Joao Neves for club as well as country.
Fernandes told Sport TV: “I would love to have him at United.
    “But it’s Joao choice…
    “He has top quality.

“He’s a great player but it depends on the coach’s ideas.
“He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else.”
And the comments to the media got plenty of United supporters very excited indeed as they heaped praise on their skipper for tapping up teenager Neves.
One said: “Agent Bruno, you have one thing to do.”

Another wrote: “Agent Bruno doing his thing, expect to see the player at MUFC in the summer.”
A third added: “That’s why I love him so much.”
A fourth said: “Come to Manchester United.”
And a final user commented: “Something is cooking here.”
Neves only turned 19 in September but is already one of the brightest talents for boyhood club Benfica and is being eyed by Erik ten Hag.
After coming through the academy, the midfielder broke into the first team following Enzo Fernandez’s £106million exit to Chelsea in January.
He forced his way into the starting XI by the latter stages of the 2022-23 season as Benfica won the league title and scored his first goal in the Lisbon derby against Sporting.
Last week, the 5ft 9ins technically-gifted talent – who signed a new contract in the summer until 2028 – repeated the trick against Benfica’s arch-rivals with a 94th-minute winner.
Neves represented Portugal through the youth levels and made his senior debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.

Member of ‘secret’ Premier League panel caught blabbing about verdicts as former international breaks vow of silence

But the former international has been taking it further by putting  opinions on X and backing up the decisions.
There have been a number of controversial incidents in the Premier League this season.
Arguably the biggest occurred during Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in September.
Luis Diaz thought he’d opened the scoring in the 34th minute, but his goal was wrongly disallowed when he was deemed to be offside.

The PGMOL were then forced to issue an apology after the match, sparking outrage from fans.
Wolves also felt aggrieved when they were denied a late penalty in their first game of the season against Manchester United.
With the score 1-0 to the Red Devils in the 96th minute, Pedro Neto sent a cross into the box.
Sasa Kalajdzic jumped up to win the ball, but United goalkeeper Andre Onana clattered into him.

PGMOL chief Howard Webb later admitted that it should have been a penalty to Wolves.
There was another catalogue of VAR checks during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Arsenal earlier this month.
Anthony Gordan’s second-half goal was all that separated the two teams in the end, but Mikel Arteta was adamant that it shouldn’t have stood.
Three VAR checks took place in the build-up to the goal, with the first checking that the ball was in play.
The second check looked at a potential offside and the third – and arguably most controversial – checked for a foul from Joelinton on Gabriel Magalhaes.
Webb has since revealed that the decision to give the goal was correct.
Arteta has also been charged with a breach of FA rules for his furious post-match rant.

Cameroon confirmed Onana was forced to withdraw from the squad after undergoing tests with the medical team.
The team said in a statement: “The Cameroonian football federation informs public opinion that player Andre Onana, injured and out injured during the match against Mauritius on November 17 in Douala, is not part of the delegation of the Indomitable Lions currently in Benghazi.
“The medical imaging carried out by the doctors of the national selection revealed a condition in the pubis.
“Fecafoot (Cameroon FA) wishes a speedy recovery to the Cameroonian international.”
It is a big blow for Onana who was beginning to find his feet at United.
He could face weeks on the sidelines which means Erik ten Hag could have to call upon No2 Altay Bayındır.
The Turk is yet to make his Red Devils debut since arriving from Fenerbahce in the summer.
United signed Bayindir in a £4.3million deadline day move.

West Ham to make new transfer bid for one-cap England star after having £40m offer knocked back as Moyes hunts strikers

The Irons made a £40million approach for Solanke in August but were knocked back.
And it would take a much bigger bid for the Cherries to even consider letting their star forward leave.
Solanke, 26, has scored six goals in 12 Premier League games this term, including against West Ham on the opening day of the campaign.
The player — capped once by  England — still has more than three  years to run on his current deal at the Vitality Stadium.

Hammers chiefs would love to bring him to East London but if they cannot persuade Bournemouth to sell, they will look at other targets.
Paris Saint-Germain misfit Hugo Ekitike, 21, and 27-year-old former Chelsea striker Timo Werner are among the names on Moyes’ wish list.
Ekitike joined PSG in a permanent transfer from Reims this summer following an initial season-long loan, but he has been limited to just one appearance.
Meanwhile, Werner enjoyed a successful return to the Bundesliga after re-joining RB Leipzig last summer.
