Richards eventually departed the Etihad in 2015 for Aston Villa following a loan spell at Fiorentina, but the Argentine striker stayed and cemented his status as one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
Aguero was unable to produce a fairytale ending to his Man City career as he left the Champions League final field in tears after defeat to Chelsea in 2021.
But he left a City legend as he departed as the club’s record scorer with 260 goals in all competitions in 389 appearances.
Aguero also won 12 major pieces of silverware, including five league titles, before joining Barcelona on a free transfer.

However, the now retired 35-year-old rarely spoke to the media throughout his decade at the Etihad.
And now Richards has revealed why – it was because he pretended he could not speak English.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast alongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, the former England international claimed that the complete opposite was true regarding the language barrier.
After Lineker stated he had interviewed him once in Spanish as Aguero’s English was not great, Richards replied: “This is the thing Gary – Aguero was lying.

“When they were asking him to do interviews, he was saying ‘I don’t speak English’. But he spoke brilliant English.
“He knew exactly what the slang terms were, all the terminologies, and of course, speaking with your friends and having an interview is two entirely different things, but he just played on that so much.
“He got away with it. Muggins like me, James Milner, Joleon Lescott, all the English lads had to do the media because Kun just said he didn’t speak no English.” More

Andre Onana could be BANNED from playing for Man Utd by little-known Fifa rule as keeper considers Afcon snub

He retired from international duty after quitting the team during the World Cup last year, but has since returned to the squad after repairing his relationship with manager Rigobert Song.
However Onana could decide to sit out of Afcon in a bid to focus on United, as his form has suffered since joining the club.
He made a blunder against Galatasaray which allowed the Turkish side to mount a comeback in the 3-3 draw.
But if Cameroon demand he plays and Onana refuses, the goalkeeper could be prohibited from playing for the Red Devils by Fifa.

The official Fifa line reads: “A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released pursuant to the provisions of this annex, plus an additional period of five days.”
Liverpool defender Joel Matip avoided a ban after failing to represent Cameroon at Afcon in 2017 and 2020 – though he has not played for his country since 2015.
Onana could miss six United games with Afcon running from January 13 to February 11.
The shot-stopper has struggled since his summer move and Premier League legend Ruud Gullit believes Erik ten Hag will have to start asking questions of his keeper.

He said: “He knows these are horrible mistakes, he knows that. He’s going to talk in private with his goalkeeper and ask what the hell are you doing, what is going on?
“Maybe he has to make a decision, you never know. The problem is you want to give your goalkeeper, as much as you can, confidence.
“Not immediately after a mistake get out. With goalkeepers it is hard. He was in a difficult situation.
“He saved them once but I feel for him I know he’s a good goalkeeper but he cost them a lot of games.” More

But his replacement Andre Onana has not met expectations and instead made several errors which have resulted in goals conceded – including one of Galatasaray’s goals in the 3-3 draw.
Sharpe believes releasing De Gea was a mistake as he was one of United’s most consistent performers in his spell at Old Trafford.
He 888Sport: “It’s certainly looking like an error now. It was a bit weird the way they shuffled De Gea the door – I know he made a couple of high-profile mistakes last season, but he was so consistent in the time that he was there.
“He would keep United in games and win them matches by himself, so it was a little bit disappointing the way they let him go.”

Sharpe was more positive when discussing Alejandro Garnacho, who has impressed in recent games with goals against Everton and Galatasaray.
He has tipped the youngster to become a superstar and expects him to play for the Red Devils for years to come.
Sharpe added: “Garnacho’s goal and recent performances are a huge positive moving forward. I think we’ve all seen his potential and what he’s capable of doing.
“He’s an incredible talent and one of those players who you pay your money to see. He takes people on and is more of an old-fashioned winger – he’s very direct and can score goals, so hopefully he can maintain those performance levels.
