Ligue 1 star ‘remains a candidate’ for Man Utd transfer as Erik ten Hag desperately hunts for defensive reinforcements

NICE star Jean-Clair Todibo remains a candidate for Manchester United according to reports.German journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that the centre-back is a January target for United following interest in the summer.

Todibo, 23, is one of France’s top defensive talents and has become a regular in Didier Deschamps’ French squad.
Nice are understood to value Todibo at around £50million.
Plettenburg also reports that United’s interest in Todibo will not affect their rumoured move for Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva.
Silva is reportedly United’s “top target” in the summer and has an £85m release clause.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
If the moves are to go through, it will be bad news for Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire, with United potentially splashing out £120m on a pair of young centre-backs.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent minority investment in Manchester United is likely to help them in the race for Todibo – given he is the majority shareholder of Nice.
The failed Premier League vote on trading players between clubs with the same owner will do United a favour in that sense.
An alternative destination for Todibo could be Spurs, however.

Todibo is among Tottenham’s top targets as they desperately search for a new centre-back.
Micky Van De Ven remains sidelined until the new year at the earliest and Cristian Romero is only just set to return from a three game ban.
Meanwhile Eric Dier has been deemed surplus to requirements by Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs also have interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.
Liverpool are also rumoured to have an interest in Todibo. More

Supercomputer predicts final Premier League table with Man Utd in never-before-seen territory.. but who’s tipped to win?

A SUPERCOMPUTER has predicted how the Premier League season will end – and Manchester United fans should look away now. Bettingexpert’s supercomputer BETSiE simulated the season 100,000 times for its results.

It took account of all match results from last term across all competitions, pre-season and the current campaign.
And Betsie’s latest calculations see Manchester City retain the title, finishing on 83 points, six less than last season.
And Arsenal are again set to finish second, with Liverpool back in the Champions League places in third.
Rounding out the top four will be Newcastle, replicating last year’s finish.

But that sees United out of the Champions League places and instead ending up in TENTH.
Should that happen, it would be the club’s worst ever Premier League finish, having never landed outside the top seven.
After all, the results were taken following United’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle.
Chelsea would take some pride in finishing six, above rivals Tottenham, but it would be in-form Aston Villa in fifth.

Alonso, 32, has a contract with Barcelona that runs out in June and the Catalan giants are not expected to offer him a renewal.
The Spaniard is thinking about other options and according to the Spanish outlet Sport, he has received numerous offers from other clubs.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly interested in the defender and may offer him a move as early as January.
Meanwhile, Manchester United plotted a swoop for Alonso before the summer transfer deadline.

Heckingbottom’s expected departure as boss today will be the first Prem managerial casualty of the season.
Ex-Sheffield United manager Wilder achieved great success in his first stint between 2016 and 2021 which included guiding the Yorkshire club to the top-flight in 2019.
SunSport understands he is ready to take over until the end of the season.
After Wilder left United by mutual consent in March 2021, the 56-year-old has had spells in the dugout at Middlesbrough and Watford where he left at the end of last season.

Fans called for Heckingbottom, 46, to be sacked following the heavy defeat at Turf Moor – with chants of “Hecky out” being clearly audible from the away support.
And Heckingbottom’s two-year reign as manager looks set to end with the club bottom of the league after five points from 14 matches.
United have won just once – beating Wolves on November 4 – and lost 11 of those matches.
Heckingbottom defended his record following the game, clearly knowing his fate had virtually been sealed.

The club have been plagued by financial issues of late and had to let go of key players over the summer, despite being promoted to the Premier League.
They lost star man Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille and were faced with the cruel reality of former midfielder Sander Berge running the show for Burnley during Saturday’s 5-0 defeat.
Heckingbottom said: “I wanted to keep the group together but we couldn’t.
“We’ve been making financial decisions rather than football decisions. We’ve been cutting the wage bill, selling the best assets and they [Burnley] spent £200million.
“We’ve compromised but that’s not an excuse. It’s about finding performances out of players.”

“I’ve been a fan of the talkSPORT breakfast show since the days of Alan and Ronnie Irani and Beaky and Mike Parry.

He told SunSport: “I want to say to people that I am not retired. I am just doing something a bit different.
“My sons, who are 25 and 23, keep collecting fliers from the care homes in Winchester, adverts for stairlifts and things like that.
