Man Utd legend Patrice Evra spots major hint ‘something is wrong’ for Raphael Varane at Old Trafford

The centre-back hasn’t started for the Red Devils since October’s Champions League win against Copenhagen.
The former France international was on the bench during Saturday’s loss at Newcastle with left-back Luke Shaw filling in for him at the back next to Harry Maguire.
However, Ten Hag reinstated Shaw in his natural position against Chelsea and had Victor Lindelof team up with Maguire at centre-back.
Evra believes the recent team selections make no sense when it comes to his fellow Frenchman.

The former full-back insists the Dutch tactician can’t just omit a four-time Champions League winner like Varane unless there is a serious reason.
Evra told Amazon Prime: “Something is wrong.
“Luke Shaw, no matter if he plays good or bad, I don’t want to see him at centre-back.
“He’s a left-back. when you play for a club like Manchester United and have defenders like Lindelof, Maguire, Varane, and you still have to use Luke Shaw at centre-back, there’s something wrong.

“I played centre-back in some games for United but because of an emergency. I played centre-back for Juventus because I was old.
“Luke Shaw is still young, the movements are completely different so you can get injured really easily.
“I’m really happy that Luke Shaw is back in his real position, we’ll get more balance.
“I don’t take away any credit when he plays centre-back because he was fantastic against Newcastle.
“But you have a four-time Champions League winner and he’s not in the team.” More

Awkward moment Jurgen Klopp argues with ‘ignorant’ Amazon Prime Video presenter on live TV after Liverpool clash

JURGEN KLOPP let rip at an ‘ignorant’ Amazon Prime presenter after he made a joke about Liverpool’s latest 12.30pm kick-off time.Klopp saw his team beat Sheffield United 2-0 with goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai but the German then revealed a crushing blow that defender Joel Matip has ruptured his ACL.

It led to an awkward exchange live on TV
And the Reds boss hit the roof when Amazon’s Marcus Buckland mentioned that Liverpool’s visit to Selhurst Park on Saturday features another lunch-time kick-off, something Klopp has complained about.
Buckland said: “You got to Crystal Palace in your favourite kick-off time?”
Klopp said: “That’s really brave to make a joke about that.
“We go home, I don’t know exactly what time we will get home, we will arrive, maybe 1am-2am tonight and then play again. We have two sessions.”

Klopp added: “I realise that you don’t understand it as well, even when you work in football, so why should I explain again?
“If you make a joke of that you are completely ignorant. But it’s good, football is entertainment and it’s all good.”
Buckland said: “I don’t mean to be disrespectful.”
Klopp added: “You were already. All good, you can say what you want.

“I cannot say what I want because that would be really different. If you make a joke of that you are completely ignorant.”
Klopp admitted Liverpool struggled to break down United, who welcomed back Chris Wilder as boss.
But Matip looks as though he will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee against Fulham.
Klopp said: “It is an ACL rupture. It looks like that. It is very unfortunate.
“But I am really pleased with the result. I don’t want to be overly critical as I know we can play better football but this time of year you play, hopefully win and hopefully recover.”
Boss Wilder got a warm reception on his return to replace Paul Heckingbottom.
He said: “It will stay with me forever and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
“It has been a long-time away. I understand some supporters think it is a mistake, me coming back, so I have to earn their support.

Alejandro Garnacho also shone for Erik ten Hag’s side as they bounced back from their defeat at Newcastle.
However, captain Bruno Fernandes had a mare from the penalty spot before McTominay opened the scoring, with his effort saved by Robert Sanchez.
Here is how SunSport’s Martin Blackburn rated the United performances…
    Andre Onana – 6
Great stop to deny Jackson as he went clean through in the first half will do his confidence the power of good. Well beaten by Palmer for Chelsea goal.

    Diogo Dalot – 6
Picked ahead of Wan Bissaka at right back and justified the manager’s decision this time. Did his bit defensively and pinged over a couple of useful crosses.
    Harry Maguire – 8
Had a hand in opening goal as his shot was saved. Brilliant interception to stop Jackson racing clear. What a return to favour the England man is having.

    Victor Lindelof – 5
Could not get a foot in on Palmer as he equalised for United. The home side looked open to Chelsea breaks in the first half and the Swede did not reappear for the second half.
    Luke Shaw – 7
Needless booking for kicking the ball away early on but showed his versatility by moving to centre back second half. United look a much better team with him back in the side after long lay off.

    Scott McTominay – 9
Again proved to be United’s matchwinner and should have had the match-ball. Steered home to put United ahead and rose at the back post to nod the second.
    Sofyan Amrabat – 8
Lost possession badly early on and it almost proved costly but otherwise an impressive game for the Moroccan. Looks much better in the middle than at left back.
    Antony – 6
Won the penalty after foul by Fernandez Poked a deflected shot just wide second half but United fans would still like to see more for the money they spent on him.
    Bruno Fernandes – 6
Disappointing penalty was too easy for Sanchez and a couple of other chances too – but the Portuguese never hides and he kept the team ticking.
    Alejandro Garnacho – 8
Provided the crosses for both United goals.  Tried another of his bicycle kicks but this one was miles off. The fans will forgive him though.

    Rasmus Hojlund – 6
Got the nod ahead of Rashford. Offside for opening goal but luckily was not interfering. Shot over in first few mins his only chance of note. Standing ovation when he was subbed late on.

Offering a further update on the Argentine’s status, Klopp added: “Macca, it was a shame. Early, he stepped on his knee, there was a cut.
“As long as the wound was open, we just strapped it, obviously it was painful but he could play.
“Then we stitched it but then obviously it got a bit tighter there and then he couldn’t move anymore. Now we have to see how long that will take. I hope not too long.”
Liverpool won tonight’s match via goals by Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai.

How £40m Anthony Gordon is having last laugh and proving Newcastle supremo right after being chased out of Everton

EVERYONE thought that Newcastle had their pants pulled down by Everton after splashing £40million on Anthony Gordon in January. And they were howling when, in Toon’s Amazon Prime documentary, co-owner Amanda Staveley insisted the “extraordinary” Scouser would be “one of the best players in the league”.

Well, fast forward 11 months and the Magpies are having the last laugh as demands for a first England call-up grow.
Hounded out of Goodison Park, Toffees fans were convinced they had offloaded a supposed bad egg.
But after six goals and three assists this term the winger is well on his way to justifying the fee — as well as Staveley’s prophecy.
A first return to his boyhood club came in April as a late sub with the Toon 4-1 up and Goodison half empty.

But the home fans will be baying  for blood tonight with the  forward’s acrimonious exit still fresh in the memory.
After a 2-1 January defeat by Southampton, a furious mob — who did not think he was up for the relegation fight — chased his car following what was his last Everton game.
And Magpies boss Eddie Howe urged the red-hot Gordon to block out the noise and silence the boo boys.
Howe said: “It will be an explosive atmosphere.

“Anthony has to be prepared for whatever reception he gets — but just focus on his football. That’s all he can do.
“If you think about things you can’t control, you take your mind off of what you can.
“He needs to control the things that make his performance as good as it can be, which he has been doing  on a consistent basis recently.”
Gordon, 22, struggled to adapt to Howe’s demands but started this season on fire  having been named Player of the Tournament as England won the Under-21 Euros over the summer.
Howe added: “I had no issue with him when he first signed, he just wanted everything there and then.
“He wanted to play, score goals and do well, which I understand and is natural but going to a new club is never easy. There’s always a transitional period, no matter how experienced you are.
“This season we’ve really seen him grow and develop because of his fitness levels being so high due to his work with England in the summer.”
Martin Dubravka replaces Nick Pope in goal tonight after the England keeper was ruled out for at least four months with a dislocated shoulder.
Toon may look for a replacement, with free agent David de Gea an option.

Chelsea ratings: Cole Palmer shows quality but Mykhailo Mudryk wasteful again as Blues lose at Man Utd

The Ukrainian struggled to make an impact, missing two glaring chances.
After Scott McTominay’s Man Utd opener it was Palmer who conjured up a brilliant equaliser, wriggling free in the box before caressing the ball into the bottom corner.
McTominay struck again in the second half to consign Chelsea to defeat, and ease pressure on their beleaguered boss Erik ten Hag.
On a dramatic night at Old Trafford, SunSport’s Etienne Fermie rates and slates each Blues performer on another disappointing night for Pochettino and Co.

    Robert Sanchez – 6
Tipped a Rasmus Hojlund shot wide on three minutes. Brilliantly got down to save Bruno Fernandes’ ninth minute penalty. Excellent double save to deny McTominay a second on the half-hour.
Made some terrific saves but also put his team in trouble with some really poor passes out from the back.
    Marc Cucurella – 5
Bamboozled down Chelsea’s right flank time and again by Alejandro Garnacho.
Stuck to his task but lacked the required quality and was hooked at half-time for Reece James.

    Axel Disasi – 6
A few clumsy moments on the ball, well tested by United’s lively front line.
If anything was fortunate that Man Utd weren’t more clinical.
    Thiago Silva – 5
Made a superb last-ditch block to deny Antony early on. As the game wore on the Brazilian veteran began to look exposed.
Perhaps it should be time for the Blues to try Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill together at centre-back.

Young England international didn’t produce his best performance and could benefit from being tried at his preferred centre-back.
    Moises Caicedo – 5
Big-money summer signing really struggled to impose himself on the game.
Seldom got his team going and was hardly noticeable in Chelsea’s engine room.
    Enzo Fernandez – 5
Conceded an early penalty by treading on Antony’s foot.
Like his midfield partner Caicedo, Fernandez didn’t manage to grab the game by the scruff of its neck.

    Raheem Sterling – 6
Went down in the vicinity of Victor Lindelof but his pleas for a penalty were ignored.
Squared for Jackson in the first half only for the forward to be denied by Andre Onana.
    Cole Palmer – 7
Boyhood Man Utd fan got plenty of stick for his former City allegiances. Quietened the home faithful with a smart shot passed into the bottom corner.
Conjured Chelsea’s best moment of quality by a mile but couldn’t drag his side to a point.

    Mykhailo Mudryk – 4

Showed the odd flash of quality but is far, far too wasteful for this level.

Chelsea need to start looking the part
Since arriving as the new owner of the West London outfit, Todd Boehly has spent in excess of £1bn.
However, watching their performances, this does not look like a side that has been compiled to set the world alight.
Defensively, they look terrible and are opened up too easily by teams and constantly look capable of conceding goals.
Aside from that, in the final third, they look wasteful and do not capable of a clinical edge.
Mauricio Pochettino has his work cut out at Chelsea, whether he is given the time to do so, only time will tell.

United need to use win as springboard
Man Utd go into a tough run of fixtures now that could define their season ahead.
Looking to do what they can to stay in Europe into the New Year, they also have some tricky league fixtures.
Victory over Chelsea should give them confidence heading into this run of games however.

    Scotty Too Hotty for Chelsea
Man Utd’s Scottish midfielder is having a season to remember.
Goals have been a rare sight in previous seasons and now he finds himself as the club’s top scorer.
Two goals against Chelsea has sealed all three points for Erik ten Hag’s side amidst lots of pressure on their performances.

    88. Time is running out for Pochettino’s side now.

    80. Reece James is looking like a liability defensively.
Another weak header gets United on the attack and Reguilon’s cross picks out Garnacho.
He hits it first time but his effort is always curling away from goal with Sanchez at full stretch.
    Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
    78. Broja replaces Mudryk for Chelsea.
It looks like they are lining up in a plain 4-4-2 for the rest of the game.
Palmer has come out to the right wing with Sterling on the left.
    Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
    76. Mauricio Pochettino has his work cut out now coming up with a change to turn the tide in this game.
It looks like he is getting Broja ready to join the action.
James swings a ball into a great area but Jackson is blocked off.
    Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
    74. Chelsea are starting to realise they need to get forward more now if they want anything from this game.
Reece James tries to head the ball back to his keeper but gets it all wrong and Garnacho is clean through.
He manages to recover and get a block in to deny the Argentine youngster.

    72. McTominay now has six Premier League goals for the season.
That makes him Man Utd’s top-scorer this season.

    Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
    70. Finally we have a goal in this second half.
Garnacho lifts a ball into the back post and McTominay runs onto it to head the ball past Sanchez.
A bullet of a header that give the Chelsea keeper no chance.
Goal – Scott McTominay (Man Utd)
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    68. McTominay tries to cross into the box but it is blocked for another corner.
Fernandes comes over to take it, looking to swing it in towards the near post.
If I had a pound for every time Bruno Fernandes failed to beat the first man with a corner today, it would be a good Christmas this year.
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    66. Garnacho is the one player really standing out for Man Utd.
Whenever they get the ball to him, he is causing the Chelsea defence problems with his pace and trickery.
Sadly, neither side are looking very potent in front of goal in this half.
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    64. Garnacho does well down the left and finds Fernandes on the edge of the box.
He drags the ball back, losing Caicedo and looks to get a shot away.
It is well blocked and goes behind for a corner.
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    62. The ball comes to Antony on the edge of the box and he looks to get a shot away.
It strikes a Chelsea player and goes out for a corner.
As the cross comes in, it drops to Shaw on the edge of the box who lets fly.
It again strikes a visiting player, with the hosts screaming for a penalty but the referee is not interested.
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    60. Man Utd are struggling to get going again in this half.
They do not look the attacking threat they did before the interval.
All too often players get into good positions out wide and then fire in wasteful crosses, not beating the first defender.
    Credit: Getty
    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
    58. Amrabat has looked nothing like the player we saw in the World Cup in Qatar for Man Utd.
Maybe they need to start wearing the Morocco top as their home shirt to get the same performances out of him.
Caicedo is penalised for a foul, he was all over Hojlund then.

    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea

    56. The ball is crossed into the Chelsea box and comes to Garnacho in the air at the back post.
He tries to replicate his goal from Goodison Park but on this occasion it is high, wide and not so handsome,
To be fair, he could try that shot a hundred times and it would only come off like it did against Everton once of twice at best. More

Goals from Marcos Senesi and Kieffer Moore proved the difference as the visitors left Selhurst Park with all three points.
The atmosphere around the ground turned toxic as the match progressed, with boos and groans heard inside the stadium.

The defeat to Bournemouth leaves Palace with just one win from their last eight league matches.
Hodgson’s side have also lost three of their four matches since last tasting victory against Burnley on November 4.
Asked about the incident after the match, Hodgson said: “I wasn’t aware of it. You’re saying there is a fan out there who doesn’t like me? I won’t lose any sleep over that.
“Obviously it wasn’t good enough. The fact is that the expectations are high hence the boos.
“The fact is the fans have been spoiled here in recent times, they’re used to seeing us do very well at home and get good results and this year we’ve not been able to do that.
“They’ve come here today, of course, thinking after our good point at West Ham that we would run all over and blow Bournemouth away but unfortunately they are false expectations because Bournemouth are not an easy team to blow away.
