Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher name biggest Premier League flops this season who have taken clubs ‘backwards’

JAMIE CARRAGHER and Roy Keane have named the biggest flops of the season in the Premier League. Two goalkeepers are said to be a massive disappointment in English top-flight football and have made their team go “backwards”.

Arsenal loanee David Raya has also been said to be a disappointment this termCredit: Getty
Both Arsenal and Manchester United felt the need to strengthen their goalkeeping position in the summer.
Erik ten Hag brought in Inter Milan’s Andre Onana for £43.8million but since his arrival, he has faced scrutiny from fans and pundits over his performance.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta recruited David Raya to rival long-time No1 Aaron Ramsdale which has divided many fans as to whether the Spaniard made the right call.
And on Gary Neville’s podcast Stick To Football by SkyBet co-hosted with Keane and Carragher, the pair revealed the two keepers have been the league’s biggest disappointment this season.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
United legend Keane said the Cameroonian shot-stopper has been “struggling” to fill in the gloves David de Gea left behind.
He said: “The biggest disappointment has to be Andre Onana.
“I think Manchester United were right to get rid of David de Gea, but for the club to have brought someone else in and for him to be struggling.”
Last term’s Golden Glove winner De Gea was let go as a free agent after 12 years at Old Trafford.

But his replacement Onana had a shaky start to the term conceding ten goals in his first five games.
And pal Carragher agreed but added that Arsenal loanee David Raya has been “quite poor”.
He said: “The biggest disappointments in the Premier League so far this season would be the two goalkeepers at Manchester United and Arsenal – Andre Onana and David Raya.
“They’ve been quite poor after coming in as ‘improvements’ from the previous keepers, and it’s almost stayed the same or even gone backwards with them coming in.”
Fans are yet to be convinced if Raya is a better goalie than Ramsdale who has been sidelined for most of the term.
And his performance on Tuesday night against Luton did not persuade fans that he should have the No1 spot after his two howlers led the first-time Premier League contenders to score.
But thanks to Declan Rice’s last-minute winner the Gunners managed to scrape a 4-3 victory. More

Tottenham reject approach from Swansea for Ange Postecoglou’s assistant manager Chris Davies

TOTTENHAM have rejected an approach from Swansea for assistant manager Chris Davies.Swans are looking for a new boss after sacking Michael Duff earlier this week.

Former Welsh youth player Davies is among their top targets to succeed Duff.
But they have been rebuffed in their goal to take Ange Postecoglou’s No2 by Spurs.
Davies, 38, was assistant to Brendan Rodgers at Swansea before joining the Northern Irishman at Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester.
In June, he was appointed senior assistant coach to Postecoglou at Spurs.

His influence at the North London side has been clear from the way he regularly instructs the players from the technical area during games.
The players are also understood to love his training sessions with Davies receiving a lot of praise so far this season.
That means Tottenham will likely tell Swansea to look elsewhere in what would be another blow for the Welsh club.
Ex-Birmingham boss John Eustace and former Luton and Southampton chief Nathan Jones have already been ruled out of the running for the vacant post.

Martinez, who won the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony last month, put on a stellar display to keep the treble winners at bay.
But his stand-out moment came in the 11th minute when he pulled off an outstanding double save.
After Phil Foden split the Villa defence with a clever pass through to Erling Haaland, the goalkeeper managed to stop the striker’s close-range shot before parrying the ball away.
However, Bernardo Silva latched onto the rebound and crossed the ball back to Haaland in the six-yard box.

Man City break two unwanted Pep Guardiola records in shock Aston Villa defeat as Unai Emery tears champions to shreds

    Aston Villa dominated the champions
City failed to produce a shot after the 11th minute
Unai Emery’s side moved above City thanks to the three points and were unfortunate not to have won by a bigger margin.
They dominated City from start to finish with Guardiola’s side managing just TWO shots – both of which came in the opening 11 minutes.
That is the fewest ever by a Guardiola team in a game in one of Europe’s big-five leagues.
Bailey grabbed Villa’s winner with a deflected effort in the 74th minute but City’s goal had lived a charmed life up until that point.

Goalkeeper Ederson kept his side in the game with a series of brilliant saves while wayward finishing also spared City’s blushes.
The European champions faced 22 shots in total – the joint-most any Guardiola team has faced in his 535 games as a manager.
Villa’s 13 first-half shots is also the most ever faced by a Guardiola side EVER.
City even failed to win a single corner – that has never happened before in the Premier League during the Spaniard’s reign.

City are now winless in four Premier League matches for the first time in SIX AND A HALF YEARS and they failed to win for the fifth time on the spin in all competitions when midfielder Rodri was unavailable.
Guardiola said: “With Rodri we could not win against Liverpool or Spurs. Of course he is important but it’s my job to find a way to do it without him.”
But they could not find a way last night at Villa Park.
The City chief added: “They were better and we have to accept it.
“I know the players tried and wanted it because they have proven it to me and everyone many times.
“But now the results are not good, when previously they always were. The way we played in the past we won ? but today, we are not able to.
“We are not consistent enough to win games. I have to think about it. I have to sleep, to reflect.”

The Citizens are four matches without a win and trail league leaders Arsenal by six points.
Incredibly, they are just three points above rivals Manchester United but have a chance to end their poor run when they visit relegation-threatened Luton at the weekend.
Defender John Stones said: “We have to use the hurt and the pain that is within us, our stomachs, our brains, wherever it might be, as motivation and fuel to put things right.

“I think everyone has that desire. We’ve been in these positions in previous seasons.
“I don’t think we or everyone should be hyping about what is going to happen. I think we have to stay calm as a team, which we will do tomorrow once we’ve analysed it and settled down emotionally.” More
