SunSport expert says Tottenham star Romero should have been sent off for shocking lunge.. and fans agree

CRISTIAN ROMERO was extremely lucky not to be sent off against Newcastle. The Tottenham defender’s second-half challenge endangered the safety of Callum Wilson with excessive force.

I wouldn’t blame referee Chris Kavanagh for showing a yellow card as Ben Davies appeared to block his viewing angle.
But Romero, just back from a ban, went over the top, caught Wilson twice and this was a case for VAR intervention and a red card.
Brentford’s Frank Onyeka and Jacob Brown of Luton should have also been red-carded this weekend for similar challenges which went unpunished.
We need to eradicate them from the game because a player will get seriously injured if we continue to allow them.

Romero has just returned from a three-game ban for a straight red card earlier this season.
So that means, had he received the same punishment on the pitch this time he would have picked up a four-game suspension.
Most fans were incredulous at what seemed his fierce follow-through on Wilson’s ankle did not lead to his instant dismissal in Spurs’ 4-1 win.
One viewer hit out: “How is that not a red? Wtf!”

Another argued: “Red card definitely. Looking at similar situations this is obvious. Have some consistency for once.”
A third fan suggested some officials are hesitant to dish out straight reds – because of video replays.
He wrote: “The referee gave a yellow cos he knows he has VAR to fall back on! This has been the referee mentality since VAR has came in! They don’t make the decisions and wait for VAR!”
Many observers reckon Romero is a “beast” – but opinion is split on whether he can, or should, be controlled.
One claimed: “He might not be the same player if you tame him.”
Another fan made a similar point: “Romero’s style might be untameable, an innate part of his game.”
But this post summed up the alternative thinking: “He’s a beast, but he needs to chill. Too many cards, too many fouls.” More

Forgotten ex-Man Utd star ‘told he’s CURSED as furious agent launches sickening campaign of threats and violence’

FORMER Manchester United player Eric Bailly has said he has fallen victim of sickening threats by an agent claiming he has put a curse on him.Bailly spent seven years at United, one of which was on loan at Marseille, and amassed 113 appearances until his departure in September when he joined Besiktas.

According to The Mirror, however, his time in Turkey kicked off on a sour note as an agent claiming he helped complete the centre-back’s move to Istanbul has accused him of owing him money.
The Ivory Coast international’s camp said that the unnamed abuser has sent him dozens of disturbing messages on WhatsApp.
Some of them include threats of legal action as well as physical violence as he warned him he will “send people” round to him.
The agent has also told the 29-year-old he has successfully cursed him after Besiktas’ recent 3-1 loss to Fenerbahce, which saw the defender being penalised for handball and conceding a penalty.
    Read More on Man Utd
One of the abusive messages read: “I am happy to see what my curse is doing to you. You are not a man. You are a big Mickey Mouse.”
Another said: “I will not let you f*** me in my own country. You will see what happens after I open a fraud case against you.”
The issue has been reported to Besiktas who promised to report it to the police and Fifa could also get involved as they oversee agents.
Bailly is officially represented by his uncle Severin Bohui, who is a fully licensed agent, and is adamant the person abusing his nephew was in no way involved in the deal with the Turkish giants.

Bohui told The Mirror: “He’s not stopped sending him threats, messages and blackmails.
“He is insinuating Eric owes him some money, because he was part of the people who brokered his move to Besiktas. Therefore Eric should pay him some money.
“I asked Eric if he signed any intermediation contract with this guy, he said no.
“I also asked the club if they knew this guy or if they asked him to speak to Eric on their behalf, they also said no. Same old story of agents trying to barge in deals.
“One thing is for sure this guy has not stopped harassing Eric. He even sent him a message today after their defeat to Fenerbahce.
“He’s threatening to send people out to him so I don’t think blocking him will solve the problem. This is more of a security issue than a Fifa one.” More

Spurs and Newcastle stars scrap after awful Romero hack but fans can’t help spot ‘another classic Gary Neville ‘ooo’

CRISTIAN ROMERO escaped a red card for a horror tackle that sparked a mass scrap in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat of Newcastle. But fans were distracted from the controversy by the “weird noises” of what one called “another classic Gary Neville oooh”.
The flare-up came near the end of a comfortable Spurs win
“I don’t think he’ll learn. I think it’s in him. Some players you can’t tame them. He’s one of those”The Super Sunday panel discuss Cristian Romero’s yellow card 🟨 pic.twitter.com/x6opwq33gx— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) December 10, 2023

Players squared up and others had to be kept apart
“It’s a lack of respect!” 👀Callum Wilson explains his clash with Guglielmo Vicario towards the end of their 4-1 loss 😳 pic.twitter.com/lPIrRb0Cl0— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) December 10, 2023

Romero would have got a four-game ban had he earned a second straight red this season for the challenge on Callum Willson near the end.
But after the final whistle it was Wilson who reacted furiously to Guglielmo Vicario as he accused the Spurs keeper of showing a “lack of respect” by “pulling faces” in the closing minutes.
Vicario later hit back on his Instagram story, sharing a clip of the Toon striker’s words and writing underneath: “Respect is given… to everyone that respects me!”
Spurs wideman Pedro Porro also had to be shoved away by team-mates amid a hostile finale to Sunday’s Prem match.

Viewers, however, were mainly angry with the initial tackle from centre-back Romero.
One claimed: “That Romero challenge looked a fairly clear cut case for VAR to step in and advise an upgrade from yellow to red card.”
But Sky Sports pundit Neville diverted attention for some viewers with his response.
As the Manchester United legend verbally winced at the on-field exchange, one observer posted: “Another classic Gary Neville OoOoOoO for the history books there.”

But another fan insisted: “Neville has such an agenda against Romero. The noises!!!! So weird.”
A third supporter agreed: “Slipped on 1st challenge which made 2nd contact inevitable. But Neville hates him so much.”
However, other viewers labelled Romero’s foul as “shocking” – with the strongest verdict being the “most malicious tackle of all time”.
Spurs were 3-0 up at the time – through Destiny Udogie and a double from Richarlison – with just ten minutes left.
Son Heung-min then added a penalty to his two assists before Joelinton replied for the Magpies.
And at the end Wilson couldn’t contain his contempt for Vicario “messing round” – like his England squad-mate Jordan Pickford did when Everton beat Newcastle 3-0 last Wednesday.
Wilsoin told Sky Sports: “There’s a way to win, isn’t there.
I think we’ve seen it in the week when Everton were winning and Pickford was messing about.
You know, the goalkeeper, for the header, he starts pulling faces and messing around.

That was the West Londoners’ third loss in their last four league matches, which saw them drop to 12th place in the table.
Pochettino admitted this was yet another “really disappointing” result for Chelsea fans.
And the Argentinean tactician hinted at even more additions in the upcoming January transfer window.
Pochettino said after the whistle: “I’m really disappointed. This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check.

“We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”
Some Chelsea fans didn’t take kindly to Pochettino’s statement as new owner Todd Boehly has splashed over £1billion since taking over in the summer of 2022.
In fact, Boehly broke the Premier League transfer record twice with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo arriving for a staggering £107million in February and £115m in August respectively.
Some supporters have had enough of the constant signings and instead want the former Tottenham boss to work on building team cohesion.

One fan tweeted: “Just insane. How do you build any team cohesion if new faces arrive every six months?”
Another commented: “It’s not about new signings. We need to make the team a unit and not just add to it.”
A third wrote: “You need more players?”
This fan said: “Lol extra 1billion to spend.”

And as City trailed 1-0 at Kenilworth Road, home supporters chanted at Grealish: “He’s just a sh*t Harry Cornick.”
That niche comparison – between two players who have so much in common yet have endured such contrasting fortunes – dates back a few years.
And fans online loved the “amazing” chants in Sunday’s Prem clash.
But the shouts were silenced midway through the second period when Grealish made the biggest impression himself – by sliding in to complete City’s 2-1 comeback victory.

Cornick has the same controversial buzzcut as the England ace.
But matching crops merely top off what many Hatters’ supporters consider to be their dead-ringer appearances.
They are both 28 and generally found on the wing.
But while Grealish won the Treble with City last season, Cornick departed Luton for Bristol City in January.
