Van Dijk, 32, said “there was only one team trying to win the game” as the Red Devils snatched a 0-0 draw at Anfield on Sunday.
He added: “We were superior in all aspects, they were hoping to hurt us on the counter and they are buzzing with a point.”
Keane slammed the defender for the “arrogance [that] backfired on him today” and the “disrespect” on display in a blistering rant.
And now Van Dijk has responded by rejecting the fiery Irishman’s comments.

The ex-Southampton and Celtic star said: “I like Roy Keane, if he said that then it’s fine.

“We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score and that’s the frustrating part.”
Van Dijk played the full 90 minutes of the stalemate at Anfield as the Reds failed to win a home Premier League game for the first time this season.
Liverpool racked up a whopping 34 shots to United’s six and enjoyed 68 per cent possession with 607 passes – more than double the 293 of their rivals.
Erik ten Hag’s side, who went into the game with 12 defeats from 24 matches this season, were forced into making 45 clearances and finished the game with ten men after Diogo Dalot’s double yellow card for dissent.
The goalless draw saw Liverpool slip from first to second this weekend as Arsenal’s win over Brighton helped the Gunners leapfrog Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Van Dijk added: “Maybe [we were] trying to force it a little bit at times and we could have made a better decision but it was hard to break the low block down.
“You push, you push, you push and try to do everything in your power but it was one of those days we couldn’t find the right decision to score a goal.
“At times – I won’t say every time – we forced it too much to find a solution which wasn’t there but that’s football.” More

The Premier League clash was abandoned at 1-1 as the defender was rushed to hospital.
Luton confirmed soon after that their captain had suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch.
The 16-cap Wales international was responsive when he was taken off on a stretcher and is stable.
The latest update from the Hatters confirmed he is still undergoing tests and scans in hospital before he can begin his recovery at home.

Lockyer collapsed at Wembley in May’s play-off final and had minor surgery before getting the all-clear to lead his team in the Premier League.
But now Eriksen has advised his fellow footballer to think carefully about his decisions and consider the wisdom of the experts treating him.
Eriksen, 31, had a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 and was given the green light to return to football after having an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device fitted to regulate his heartbeat.
The Manchester United midfielder, who made his Brentford debut eight months after his ordeal, told Betfred: “Well first of all, I hope he’s OK. I cross my fingers that he’s fine.

“I’ve read and seen what’s happened and I hope he’s OK, takes his time, is in a healthy way and his family are there to support him.
“My advice to him would be to make the best decision you can.
“If the doctors tell you to do something else then you’ve got to respect it and see what you can do.
“There’s nothing that’s going to hold you back, but in the end it all depends on how he’s feeling and what the doctors are saying.
“He has to make the decision with his family, but he should take his time and focus on himself.”
Following Lockyer’s cardiac arrest at Bournemouth, Luton manager Rob Edwards immediately sprinted on to the pitch to get the players to make way for the medical team.
The two teams returned to the dressing rooms as Lockyer received treatment from the medics, then the match was officially abandoned soon after 5pm and will be replayed in full at a later date.
The BBC were praised for how they handled the incident on Match of the Day.

Jose Mourinho gives brutal Premier League title prediction as Arsenal fans tell Arteta ‘play this in the changing room’

JOSE MOURINHO has ruled Arsenal out of the Premier League title race with a brutal prediction. The Gunners pose as serious contenders to win the Prem for the first time since their legendary Invincibles campaign in 2004.

In fact, the North Londoners are top of the table with one point separating them from second-placed Liverpool and five ahead of Manchester City, who are fourth behind Aston Villa.
However, Mourinho is adamant this season’s title race is a two-horse race between City and the Reds.
And the Roma boss, who knows all about the Premier League having won it three times with Chelsea, has zero confidence in Mikel Arteta’s men lifting the trophy in May.
Mourinho told The Obi One podcast when asked for his title prediction: “Man City 51 per cent and Liverpool 49 per cent [chance of winning the title].”

The Portuguese head coach was asked: “No Arsenal?”
Mourinho responded: “Nah… It is not the rivalry, is it the right moment?
“Honestly, rivalry apart, I would like them to win. Of course, Chelsea and Man United are not going to win it.
“Out of these three, I would be happy for Arsenal to do it. I would be really happy for them to break that thing.

“It is because when the cumulation of matches starts coming, Man City have two teams.”
But Arsenal fans are adamant their team should use Mourinho’s bleak prediction as fuel to push them to the title.

One fan tweeted: “Arteta is going to play this video in the changing room like he use that Toney tweet.”
Another commented: “We like it like that, underestimate us at your peril.”

I’m a long-suffering Aston Villa fan… but after best year in club’s 149-year history it’s not barmy to dream of title

These are strange times for Villa fans. Up to now their Premier League history is made up of odd flashy wins followed by long periods of despair – not title run ins.But Unai Emery is taking the club into a new normal. Perennially the bridesmaid and never the bride, supporters are used to being defeatist when considering the future.

If there is a defeat to snatch from a victory, the Midlanders have been front of the queue.
Whisper it quietly though, there is a feeling Villa being crowned in May for the first time as Premier League champs is not a completely barmy theory. World No1 Emi Martinez recently boasted “I’m a believer mate” when asked if the club could do it.
Meanwhile skipper John McGinn has banned the T word being mentioned and the boss won’t entertain the idea until week 30 to 32 of the season.
There is no doubt pundits fixated on the big six are beginning to reform their positions as Villa steamroller all opposition at home and previous records have tumbled.

Currently on a best ever home winning league run, they have beaten 15 teams at Fortress Villa Park including Manchester City and Arsenal in the space of a few days.
In the calendar year of 2023, they have 25 wins – their most in their 149-year history.
Comparisons are growing to Leicester’s incredible against-all-odds triumph and Villa have tracked their points tally so far this season.
But unlike Leicester’s lucky run, Villa have quietly been building a competitive squad since billionaire owners Nassef Sawiri and Wes Edens took over a near bankrupt club in 2018.

They now talk about creating a Great eight as opposed to a Big six. Aspirations are huge.
Their only blip on the road has been handing the manager’s job to Steven Gerrard who flirted with the relegation zone.
Their number one decision is then handing the reins to habitual winner Emery with his glittering trophy cabinet – who turned the ship around in October 2022 and it’s been going upwards ever since.
Laughed at as ex-Arsenal gaffer, he has now set out his tactical masterplan utilising the players who had looked dead and buried under previous managers.

Strong favourites to match West Ham’s feat of lifting the Europa Conference League feels like it is just the first step into the continent.
And if Villa beat Sheffield United on Friday, they would now climb to the top spot. A likely draw between Liverpool and Arsenal the following day would mean Villa is top for Christmas.
That feat which is always considered a good omen for where the trophy ends up.

Newcastle allowed to field Chelsea’s OWN player against them after using little known rule for Carabao Cup clash

Carabao Cup rules dictate that loan players are allowed to play against their parent club provided permission has been granted by the team that owns him.
And on this occasion, the necessary requirements have been met for the versatile 19-year-old to play in west London.
This comes after the England Under-21 international was ruled ineligible for Newcastle’s 4-1 victory against Chelsea at St James’ Park last month but the rules are different in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have extra reason to allow the left-back to compete against them.
    Read More on Football
The Toon signed Hall last summer on loan with a £34million obligation to buy this coming June.
However, that clause can only be activated based on appearances and other performance-related factors which have yet to be met.
Therefore, the more the Cobham academy graduate plays for Newcastle the closer Chelsea will get to selling him in the summer.
The London giants agreed to the deal last summer in order to raise funds after spending a whopping £1billion across the last three transfer windows.

The Blues also failed to qualify for Europe this season and could potentially miss out next term as well as they are currently 10th in the Premier League table.
Therefore, Chelsea have missed out on some essential funds from Europe.
Newcastle, on the other hand, couldn’t afford a deal up front and chose to spread the cost by making the transfer permanent in the summer.
This arrangement has also helped ease Financial Fair Play issues for both clubs. More

How Arsenal legend Ian Wright went from untouchable pundit frozen out by BBC and ITV to one of the nation’s favourites

IAN WRIGHT has opened up on why he was snubbed for years by the BBC and ITV before making his comeback in 2015. The much-loved pundit quit Match of the Day 15 years ago after falling out with TV bosses.

Wright is again set to step back from screens at the end of this season – but now on far better terms.
The former England striker announced he is leaving MOTD”to do a few more different things with my Saturdays.”
Wright made his debut on the iconic highlights show in 1997, while he was still playing in the Premier League with Arsenal at the time.
After retiring three years later, he began working as a regular pundit in 2002.

He lasted on Match of the Day for six years before being axed and frozen out by the BBC following a dispute with chiefs.
The Gunners and Crystal Palace legend was unhappy as he thought he was only being used for comedy purposes to stop tensions arising between fellow pundits.
Wright said at the time: “I feel like I am just there as a comedy jester to break the ice with Alan Shearer and Alan Hansen, who just do run-of-the-mill things.
“I can’t do that any more. People want something different.”

Wright has now lifted the lid on his 2008 departure from the BBC as he spoke to his Wrighty’s House podcast.
He said: “There was a time I wasn’t on the BBC for about nine years, they weren’t happy with a column I’d done about punditry and where it should be going, how it feels a bit sterile.
“And the fact that I said I feel like I’m on the end and I’m being like a court jester, I come in for the light comic relief.
“I said I’ve got more to offer.
“I remember being off the BBC for about nine years and I couldn’t get nothing at ITV because the guy that got rid of me on the BBC went to ITV.
“It’s funny because the guy I’m talking about Niall Sloan, he is like in the television world a father to me in terms of how he explains things to me, how he wants me to be.
“We’re very tight now. But I couldn’t get on any television.”
Desperate to continue his role in the media, the 1998 Premier League winner with Arsenal embarked on a career in radio and it ended up being the start of his comeback journey to tele.
It led to him getting the job as host of a documentary about Laurie Cunningham, who was a pioneer for black footballers.
Wright explained: “This is where Absolute Radio came in and everyone down there almost saved me, made me fall back in love with doing it.
“To get back onside with Sloan from ITV, he wanted to do a documentary about Cunningham and the people doing it said: ‘We can’t do a documentary without me speaking about Cunningham.’
“And so Sloan was like: ‘Okay he’ll do it, but he’ll do it if you give him a game again, let him get back on the TV.’
“So I done it, it done really well and they gave me a game.
“They gave me Chelsea against Brentford in the FA Cup and I was very fortunate because I was on with Martin Allen, who was somewhere else in space while he was on TV.
“Everything he was saying I was able to counter-attack it and say, ‘well that’s not right because of this.’
“I remember David Luiz really dived into somebody and I remember digging him out for that and then after that people were writing in saying: ‘Where’s he been? Why isn’t he on then?’
“And it just turned on its head, I was back.
“What it made me realise is you’ve got to put the work in.”
Wright ended up landing a more permanent role on MOTD in 2015 after helping to convince BBC chiefs while doing international fixtures on ITV.
Leaving once again is a tough decision – but Wright believes he has made the right one, explaining: “The time’s come for it I think.
“I don’t want to go too deep into what it means to me but the music, every time I hear the music, it takes me back to an unbelievable place when I first remembered what Match of the Day meant to me.
“Then to get myself into a position where I was able to be good enough to be on Match of the Day and then be a regular, it was more than I thought it was going to be.
“When I first went on, not very rehearsed in what I was going to say or what I was going to be, I was winging it and I remember Des Lynam, when he welcomed me on to the show, I said to him ‘this is my Graceland’.
“Match of the Day was my Graceland.
“When I first got the call for it, it does hit hard. You are nervous, because some people still don’t realise, It’s live.
“People still say ‘it’s live?’ Yeah. Obviously the games are highlights because we’re putting all the stuff on it.

“But while we’re sitting there, we’re live. It’s a live show.”
Wright says he is “really looking forward to my last months” on the show and is hopeful his time on MOTD will end with his beloved Arsenal winning the Premier League title.
