Premier League teams will be BANNED from European Super League thanks to legislation introduced by Rishi Sunak

ENGLISH teams are set to be BANNED from the European Super League. The controversial proposal could come back into the limelight after a court determined Fifa and Uefa acted against law when they blocked its formation in 2021.

Twelve clubs tried to form a breakaway division but after much backlash the sides pulled out one by one.
But following the court’s new ruling, the European Super League is back in the fold with Barcelona already revealing they are “satisfied” with the decision.
However, the British government could prevent Premier League teams from being involved in its possible comeback.
After the debacle two years ago, an independent football regulator has been put in place by the government from 2024.

They promise to stop clubs from joining “breakaway or unlicensed leagues.”
After this morning’s court decision a government spokesperson said: “We note the decision by the European Court of Justice’s judgement with regard to the European Super League.
“The attempt to create a breakaway competition was a defining moment in English football and was universally condemned by fans, clubs and the Government.
“We took decisive action at the time by triggering the fan-led review of football governance, which called for the creation of a new independent regulator for English football.

“We will shortly be bringing forward legislation that makes this a reality, and will stop clubs from joining any similar breakaway competitions in the future.”
Tory MP Tracy Crouch previously said: “I am pleased that the Rishi Sunak, a passionate football fan himself, recognises that fans throughout the pyramid want to see the long-term financial sustainability of their clubs and have a greater say in how they are run.
“On the pitch, English football is admired the world over, but it is important that measures are put in place to ensure our national game is fit for the future.
“This is exactly what an Independent Regulator will do.”
The latest idea put forward by European Super League chiefs is that up to 64 clubs should leave Uefa to form a new competition.
That would be without any Prem clubs and Madrid-based sports marketing firm A22 is using the success of English football as a justification for a rival tournament. More

Aaron Ramsdale urged to ‘take on a different role’ in Arsenal squad as Mikel Arteta continues to favour David Raya

AARON RAMSDALE has been told to “take on a different role” at Arsenal. The goalkeeper remains out of favour at the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta favouring summer signing David Raya.

Ramsdale has been limited to just four appearances since the Spaniard’s Gunners debut, with only one of those coming in the league.
Former England international David James has now urged him to take up a new role within the squad.
Speaking to instantcasinos.com ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday, James explained: “Arsenal have got a goalkeeper in David Raya who, from what I’ve seen, isn’t fully confident.
“If he’s not confident, then the Arsenal defence won’t be confident. His positioning is definitely questionable from my perspective, and if I’m Liverpool I’d be shooting from silly positions.

“With Raya’s positioning, there’s the opportunity to score from places that you normally would not, and with the ability of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they can definitely nick a 1-0 win.
“Unfortunately for Aaron Ramsdale, he’s had three or four games in the past couple of months.
“This is the tough thing about being the number two goalkeeper – you’re looking at your manager thinking, ‘I know you don’t fancy me’, and you have to take on a different role in the squad.”
Raya has established himself as Arteta’s first choice since signing from Brentford in the summer.

He has kept his place in the team despite several shaky performances, including in the recent victory at Luton.
However, the 28-year-old has claimed his battle with Ramsdale has made both goalkeepers better.
Ramsdale has been left out in the cold, though, with his opportunities limited to two Carabao Cup fixtures, the final Champions League group match and the league trip to Brentford, for which Raya was ineligible.
As a result, the former Sheffield United stopper has been linked with a shock January exit when the window re-opens.
Chelsea are the latest club to be interested, according to reports, following Robert Sanchez’s recent injury.

Premier League stars paying fortunes on ex-SAS security and panic rooms as foreign crime gangs fly in to raid mansions

PREMIER LEAGUE players are paying hundreds of thousands of pounds to install panic rooms in their houses amid reports of gangs flying into the UK to burgle their homes.Injured Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne had his 70-acre mansion raided over the weekend while he was in Saudi Arabia.

Cancelo shares pics of his injuries after raid on his house
England forward Raheem Sterling suffered a similar incident last year while he was at the World Cup in Qatar.
A number of other players have also been targeted including Jesse Lingard, Joao Cancelo, Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba.
Security services are said to be working with footballers and clubs to combat the issue.
According to The Mail, organised groups, many of which reside in Albania, are targeting wealthy individuals – including top-flight footballers – to rob before they flee the country, often wearing the stolen goods while going through airport security.

They are also known to be watching high-end jewellers to identify people to target.
And there are a number of other concerns regarding player safety.
The increased popularity of women’s football has led to worries over the presence of stalkers, while male players have reported they were followed home after games.
But now the problems are leading to players taking extreme measures.

Individuals are investing huge sums of money in steel-enforced panic rooms at their homes.
This enables them to swiftly enter a safe space which contains secure lines and panic alarms.
Virtual perimeters, known as geofencing, are also thought to have been installed – which are made up of an invisible wall monitored by CCTV and sensors.
Other provisions include bodyguards, house sitters and guard dogs.
Clubs have also given their players lectures on ways to avoid being targeted.
These include not posting on social media about holidays or events until after they have returned home, as well as not going to jewellers and instead making them come to their homes. More

Chelsea aim to beat Newcastle to big-money transfer of Salzburg ace Amar Dedic but could also face battle with Mourinho

CHELSEA must beat off strong competition from former manager Jose Mourinho to land Bosnian wonderkid Amar Dedic. But Newcastle are also in the transfer tussle for the 21-year-old Red Bull Salzburg star.

And Arsenal, Barcelona and Inter Milan have all made approaches for the exciting right-back, too.
SunSport can now reveal Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on Dedic’s progress ahead of the January transfer window.
The Blues sent a scout to all of his Champions League games this season – plus at least four league matches since November as well as Euro 2024 qualifiers for Bosnia.
Similarly, Newcastle are tracking 12-cap Dedic and had someone in the stands at Red Bull Salzburg’s last three Champions League games plus a few Bosnia fixtures.

Toon want to add a versatile defender to provide cover and competition for Kieran Trippier and the left-backs when needed – especially if Lewis Hall ends up returning to Chelsea in the summer.
And Eddie Howe could be boosted by the fact that Dedic has the same agent as Magpies ace Joelinton.
Dedic is a versatile right-back who can play across the defence – including on the left – and is already the club captain.
He came through the youth academy at Red Bull Salzburg and was on the club’s books when Erling Haaland spent two years with the Austrian giants before joining Borussia Dortmund – although Dedic was out on loan with Liefering throughout that time.

However, he is now impressing in the first team at the Red Bull Arena.
And his performances prompted a £21.5million bid from Roma last summer, with Mourinho a huge fan and desperate to land him.
Salzburg rejected the offer, though, and Dedic continues to be a key man in the team, helping Gerhard Struber’s side sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga once again.
However, they face a tough task trying to keep hold of their rising star in 2024.
Roma remain interested but could pull out of the chase because Mourinho’s current contract expires at the end of the season – and therefore the Serie A side will be hesitant to prioritise the Portuguese’s targets.
Dedic signed a new contract in January, tying him down with the Austrian champions until 2027.
The top talent has scored five and assisted three in 25 appearances this season – and is part of a defence that has conceded just ten goals in the league so far.
