Santos, 19, has failed to make an impact at the City Ground since his move from Chelsea at the start of term.
The Brazilian midfielder cost the Blues £11million last January from Vasco Da Gama.
But the midfielder was sent out on loan to Nottingham to earn more game time this term.
However, he has only made two appearances for Forest and the Blues are not happy as they are expected to cut his contract this month, Nizaar Kinsella from Standard Sport claims.

And despite a “huge competition” of midfielders at Chelsea from Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, the youngster could return.
As CaughtOffSide’s Ben Jacobs reported, “The Blues can break the loan arrangement should Santos fail to reach a certain number of appearances by January”.
And Jacobs claimed Newcastle have reignited their interest in Santos.
The Rio de Janeiro-born star was strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge in 2023.

After losing 4-2 to Liverpool on Monday night, Howe’s side has been sliding down the Premier League standings in the past few weeks.
The Magpie’s interest in Santos is said to be “long-standing” and the Englishman could do with midfield reinforcement as Sandro Tonali is suspended until next season.
Newcastle has also been linked with forgotten Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips, who only has two starts for the European champions since joining for £45million 18 months ago. More

Left-back Zinchenko has started 14 Premier League games this term but surprised fans as he was not included in Arsenal’s matchday squad at Craven Cottage.
Arteta confirmed the Ukranian was suffering from a “slight calf issue”.
As he said to reporters after the game: “We don’t know. He felt something in his calf. We will scan him tomorrow and see how far he’s going to miss games.”
According to the Express, the Spaniard may be forced to bring Tierney back if Zinchenko is likely to be out for an extended period.

Jakub Kiwior started in place of Zinchenko on Sunday but was subbed off at halftime for Takehiro Tomiyasu.
But both defenders failed to stop Raul Jimenez and Bobby Decordova-Reid’s stunning two strikes.
Meanwhile, left-back Tierney made the move to Spain last summer to get back in the ranks at the Emirates.
The 26-year-old has made eight appearances in LA Liga and featured twice in the Champions League.

Despite being hit with a hamstring injury in the autumn, the report claims the Real Sociedad ace’s leadership style could be the missing piece for Arteta’s side right now.
And the Scotland international may be keen to reunite with his English side.
Before Zinchenko made the move to North London in the summer of 2022, Tierney was a key player under Arteta and was tipped to become the next captain.
The former Manchester City star ended up pushing Tierney out of Arteta’s starting XI and played most Premier League minutes at left-back last season. More

West Ham have extended his current deal, which was due to expire in the summer, by another year after activating an option in the contract.
But the 31-year-old’s representative, Karol Kisel, says the Czech Republic international “deserves better”, calling for a longer deal on bigger money.
Speaking to Czech site inFotbalu, Kisel said: “Cuf certainly deserves a better salary from the club and a new, improved, longer-term contract for his long-term performances in the West Ham jersey, in addition to the title in the Conference League.
“So far, even after negotiations, West Ham’s management sees it differently and has only exercised the option of a one-year extension.

“Cuf is not happy about it as we expected a better offer.”
West Ham yesterday confirmed that Coufal’s close friend and compatriot, Tomas Soucek, had agreed a new deal until 2027 on improved terms.
Coufal has made 132 appearances for the Hammers since his bargain £5million signing from Slavia Prague in 2020, helping the club win their first trophy for 43 years, the Europa Conference League, in his home country last June.
Had West Ham not taken up the option to extend his contract, Coufal would have been able to discuss terms with overseas clubs ahead of a free transfer in the summer from this week.

Meanwhile, West Ham are waiting on the results of a scan on Mohammed Kudus after he picked up a hamstring injury in the win over Arsenal.
Kudus would have missed the Premier League clash with Brighton regardless of injury as he was set to join up with Ghana in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The expectation is that the former Ajax winger will still be able to take part in the tournament, although he has been delayed in joining up with Chris Hughton’s squad. More

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher pick Premier League teams of the season with pair rowing over omission of HUGE star

GARY NEVILLE and Jamie Carragher saw in 2024 by rowing over their Premier League teams of the season so far.Neville, 48, and Carragher, 45, were part of Sky Sports’ broadcast for Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day.

Following the match, the pair revealed the 11 players they believe make up the best Premier League side this term.
Surprisingly, they agreed on eight stars, with just three differences between the teams.
The names they shared included the entire back four – Trent Alexander-Arnold, William Saliba, Virgil van Dijk and Destiny Udogie.
There was also no surprise that they went for Arsenal man Declan Rice in midfield.

And they selected three of the same forwards – Mo Salah, Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min.
But their discrepancies began with the choice of formation as Carragher picked a conventional 4-3-3, while Neville went for an attacking 4-2-4.
In goal, Carragher chose Tottenham shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario, while Neville picked Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.
But it was in midfield where the pair started bickering.

Rodri has been an integral part Manchester City’s side this seasonCredit: Getty
That’s because Carragher put Cole Palmer and Bernardo Silva in his midfield, snubbing two of Manchester City’s biggest names in Erling Haaland and Rodri.
And while the omission of top scorer Haaland would have shocked many, it was the absence of Spanish midfielder Rodri that left Neville utterly bemused.
Neville, who claimed his XI would “steam roller” Carragher’s side, said: “Rodri is the best midfield player in the world in his position.
“They’ve won two trophies already and are about two points, three points off the top of the league. I can’t believe you’ve not picked Rodri in that midfield.”
He then went on to add: “I love Bernardo Silva and I think Cole Palmer’s a great talent. I couldn’t pick any one for Chelsea or United, I just wrote them off.
“But Silva, I couldn’t get him in ahead of any of my front four players; Haaland for me is the best striker in the world along with Harry Kane, he’s the top scorer in the league.”
Man City’s three league defeats have been the only matches Rodri has missed in the Prem this season – highlighting his importance to the team.
Meanwhile, Carragher, who labelled Neville’s team “too narrow”, took umbrage with Neville leaving out both Silva and Palmer.
He said: “I can’t believe you’ve not picked Bernardo Silva, I just think he’s sensational every season. And Cole Palmer, you said you can’t pick a certain player because a team hasn’t done so well, but that for me elevates Cole Palmer.
“His performances this season, he’s been Chelsea’s best player by a mile, yes that’s not too difficult. But I think Palmer has been one of the players of the season.”
Palmer, 21, has contributed eight goals and four assists in 17 Premier League games since joining Chelsea from Man City in the summer.
Silva, 29, has five goals and four assists in 16 league matches for the champions.

But after disagreeing on a couple of their picks, Neville and Carragher came to a consensus over their Premier League manager of the season so far as they both went for Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.

Alan Shearer and Ian Wright slam ‘f***ing embarrassing’ Diogo Jota after Liverpool star wins penalty vs Newcastle

Liverpool dominated throughout the Premier League contest but looked set for a nervous finish when Sven Botman pulled one back for Toon on 81 minutes to make it 3-2.
However, moments later Mo Salah was able to secure the victory from the spot with his second of the game after the Merseyside outfit were awarded a penalty.
That came when Jota was played clean through and the star rounded goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
But just as the 27-year-old Portuguese forward looked set to slot home into an empty net, he went flying to the ground following minimal contact from Dubravka.

Afterwards, Arsenal legend Ian Wright took to social media to question Jota, writing: “Would rather go down for a penalty than put the ball in an empty net! Seen it all.”
And that led to a response from his fellow Match of the Day pundit and Newcastle’s all-time top scorer Shearer.

He labelled Jota as “f***ing embarrassing” in his reply.
Meanwhile, even Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher admitted that he “couldn’t fathom” why a forward would go down when presented with an empty net to score.

Liverpool 4 Newcastle 2: Mo Salah nets twice after early penalty miss as Reds go 3 points clear and Toon slump continues

ON a night of chaos and confusion at Anfield, it was Mo Salah who gave Liverpool the clarity of a three-point lead at the Premier League summit. Now Jurgen Klopp must keep the Reds on top of the pile while his Egyptian magician makes a disappearing act to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah scored twice and set up two more, having been denied from the penalty spot by Newcastle’s outstanding keeper Martin Dubravka in the first half.
His opener, which set up a manic six-goal second half, was his 150th goal for the club.
How the league leaders will miss him when he heads off to the Ivory Coast, in search of international honours – missing up to seven club matches.
Newcastle’s visits to Anfield are usually a recipe for bedlam and this was no exception – two disallowed goals in the first half adding to the mayhem.

But after peppering Dubravka’s goal for so long, Liverpool began 2024 with a flourish.
They have lost just once in 30 Premier League games – and that sole setback was a highway robbery courtesy of VAR at Tottenham.
Eddie Howe’s Toon, meanwhile, have lost seven times in eight matches in all competitions and have plummeted out of Champions League contention.
The Magpies haven’t won away in the Premier League since September and they haven’t won at Anfield in three decades.

This is not what Howe’s Saudi paymasters signed up for.
Buoyed by Arsenal’s festive nosedive, and against out-of-form opposition, Liverpool knew this was a night to seize the initiative.
And they were soon at their visitors’ throats, Trent Alexander-Arnold drilling a shot which was deflected wide and Darwin Nunez seeing a scuffed shot saved from Dubravka.
Liverpool were swarming all over the Magpies in the frantic tempo which is the trademark of a Klopp team.
And twice in quick succession, the Reds thought they had made the breakthrough.
First, Curtis Jones scalpelled open the Toon defence to release Nunez, who slipped a pass to Luis Diaz to fire past Dubravka.
Yet linesman Gary Beswick correctly flagged Nunez narrowly offside – VAR catching up with the naked eye several minutes later.
Unperturbed, Klopp’s side launched another attack, Diaz darting into the box and being upended by Sven Botman.

Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot but Salah snatched at his spot-kick, which was too close to Dubravka, who saved.
From the rebound, Alexander-Arnold skied a close-range shot and the Magpies were off the hook again.
It was the fourth time Salah had missed from the spot in ten attempts – so perhaps one disguised blessing of the Egyptian’s absence is that Klopp can choose a more trusty penalty taker.
Next, it was Nunez’s chance to be wasteful, out-muscling Botman as he went for a long punt but thwarted by Dubravka, who stuck out a leg to save his shot, then denied the Uruguayan again from the rebound.
Just when it felt Howe’s men were being smothered into submission, they broke upfield and found the net – only to be frustrated by another offside flag.
Dan Burn nodded home a Lewis Miley cross but linesman Adam Nunn scrubbed it out for a razor-thin offside against Alexander Isak in the build-up.
Alexander-Arnold, with extreme audacity, then crashed a shot against the far post from the narrowest of angles – and the shot count read 18-1 in Liverpool’s favour, the hosts rattling up the highest number of goal attempts by any team in the first half of a Premier League match this season.
Yet none had counted and by half-time, Klopp and side began to lose their cool – Diaz booked for dissent after Joelinton twice avoided entries into Taylor’s book, while Klopp, typically, was doing his conkers at fourth official Andy Madley.

Still, within four minutes of the restart all of that frustration subsided as Salah struck.
Nunez drove forward and fed Diaz who angled a pass back to the Uruguayan, who squared unselfishly for Salah to stroke home his landmark goal.
Dubravka was soon back to denying Nunez, smothering at point-black range after a delicious volleyed centre from Salah and then pushing the Uruguayan’s powerful shot wide.
Nobody saw a Newcastle equaliser coming but that’s exactly what we got.
Anthony Gordon played a cute through-ball down the left flank and with Van Dijk playing him onside, Isak latched on and tucked it past Alisson into the far corner.
Dubravka beat away a Diaz shot, then Nunez screwed a header wide from six yards out and promptly made way for Cody Gakpo, as part of a triple change from Klopp.
Salah had a curler pushed away by Dubravka, who soon blocked a fierce Gakpo drive.
But inevitably, the Slovak was eventually beaten again, Diogo Jota driving forward and collecting a sweet return pass for Salah before he squared for Jones to tap home.
Soon it was 3-1, a gorgeous pass from Salah with the outside of his boot, allowing Gakpo a simple finish – only for Botman to crash home a header from a Sean Longstaff corner to keep it bubbling.

LIVERPOOL star Trent Alexander-Arnold produced what some fans dubbed the “miss of the season” against Newcastle this evening. The full-back, 25, was presented with a golden opportunity to score during the first-half of the match.
Trent Alexander-Arnold missed a golden chance
The 25-year-old couldn’t believe he failed to score
Referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the penalty spot when he adjudged Luis Diaz to have been hacked down in the box.
Mohamed Salah stepped up to take the spot kick, but his 23rd minute effort was saved by Martin Dubravka.
Alexander-Arnold was quick up to the rebound with the goal at his mercy.
But he somehow shanked his volley harmlessly over the bar.

With Alexander-Arnold’s technique usually so reliable, Gary Neville couldn’t believe his eyes as he botched his strike.
The Sky Sports analyst said: “I don’t know what I’m more surprised by, Salah’s penalty or Trent missing the rebound.”
    Fans were also stunned.

While a second commented: “How’s Trent missed the follow up ffs.”
A third fumed: “Trent rebound miss was worse than the pen.”
And another asked: “Wait… how’s Trent missed that?”
Fifteen minutes after his miss, Alexander-Arnold nearly redeemed himself in spectacular fashion.
With the ball seemingly floating harmlessly to him by the byline on the right flank, the England star launched a speculative effort towards goals.
He caught the ball beautifully, with only the crossbar denying him what would have been an absolute beauty.
Liverpool went on to win 4-2, courtesy of goals by Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and a Mo Salah double.
The victory saw Jurgen Klopp’s side move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
