The 23-year-old couldn’t find his way back to the first team and that led to a return to Dortmund on loan.

Keane’s managerial career at Sunderland started off as a success leading the Black Cats’ to promotion into the Premier League in his debut season in 2006-07.
He spent two and a half years at Sunderland before he was sacked and headed to Ipswich.
But before his exit from the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2008 Keane was desperate to bolster his squad in fear of regulation and signed Chimbonda.
Keane ignored the red flags not to sign the right-back who over his career struggled to stay in nearly all of the clubs he was at for more than two years.

He said on Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast by SkyBet: “I brought Pascal Chimbonda in when people said to not touch him.
“But I didn’t listen to them because I thought we needed him, and he had Premier League quality and experience.
“He came in and was hard work, and I’m being really polite.”
After spending two terms at White Hart Lane where Chimbonda made 98 appearances before he was sent out the exit door.

Keane recruited the one-cap France international because of his top-flight football experience in the hope of assisting his side out of the relegation zone in the 2007-08 season.
He continued: “I didn’t listen to people, I thought we needed him.
“I remember, I left Sunderland and got a phone call from someone on the coaching staff at Spurs, they were thinking of bringing in Chimbonda and he’d already been at Spurs.
“I said, ‘I wouldn’t be sure.’ Next day, they bought him. Why ring people and get feedback, sometimes you have to take a gamble, and pressure can make bad decisions.”
Chimbonda spent just one season at Sunderland appearing just 16 times across all competitions.
He then returned to Spurs the following term before his short stints at the likes of Blackburn, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster and Carlisle. More

In October, the German outfit suspended him after he reacted angrily to being substituted during a Champions League clash with Napoli.
Fofana, who joined Chelsea for £8million 12 months ago, snubbed a handshake from Union manager Urs Fischer for which the club issued him with a one-week ban.
He later apologised for his actions.
Now Chelsea have confirmed he has returned to West London, but he is expected to leave on loan again before the end of the month.

Last week, it was reported Sevilla are keen to bring Fofana in for the rest of the campaign.
The LaLiga side are down in 16th place in the Spanish top flight and have scored just 23 goals in 19 matches.

He finally got off the mark in the Bundesliga by scoring against Koln in the last game before the winter break last month.
Fofana has been capped three times by the Ivory Coast but failed to make the cut for their Africa Cup of Nations squad.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is still searching for a top-level striker to lead the line despite the Blues having spent £1billion over the last 18 months.
Cole Palmer, Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson have all been used up front in recent weeks.
Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League table, 12 points adrift of the top four.

Sancho is looking to revive his career after spending four months in exile at Manchester United.
He has not played any football since his public fall out with Ten Hag.
Sancho was left out of the squad for United’s trip to Arsenal in September with the boss citing his “performances in training.”
The attacker then took to social media and claimed he was made a “scapegoat” by Ten Hag.
He then refused to apologise and was banned from training and all first-team facilities.
Sancho returns to Dortmund after spending four years there from 2017 to 2021.
The fans’ favourite scored 50 goals and got 64 assists in 137 games, earning him a £73million move to Man Utd.
But he has suffered a nightmare at Old Trafford, struggling to hit top form as he found the back of the net just 12 times in 82 games.
The 23-time capped England star also managed a paltry six assists.
Ex-United star Louis Saha slammed him as one of the club’s “biggest transfer failures” ever when speaking to Paddy Power.
Sancho’s Red Devils contract runs until 2026 and his parent club are reportedly paying £100,000 of his weekly £290,000 salary while he is in Germany.
Dortmund supposedly do not have an option to buy included in the loan deal.

Maurizio Sarri’s side punched their ticket to the semi-finals thanks to Mattia Zaccagni’s winner in the 51st minute following a controversial VAR review that led to a penalty-kick.
Tensions then flared up with Lazio’s former Chelsea star Pedro being shown a second yellow card following a scuffle with old Roma team-mate Gianluca Mancini in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The Giallorossi then lost Sardar Azmoun only four minutes later after a rough challenge on Nicolo Rovella.
Mancini became the final player to be shown a red card due to dissent, but that took place after the final whistle.

Referee Daniele Orsato had his hands full on the pitch but also had to deal with the benches.
And that led to yet another red card for Mourinho, who was fuming with VAR and the decision to award Lazio a spot-kick.
This comes after the ex-Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea boss was also sent off against Atalanta on Sunday.
That one was his fifth in Serie A in the past two seasons, more than any player.

The Biancocelesti were awarded a penalty after Roma’s Dean Huijsen appeared to have clipped Valentin Castellanos’s heel while they challenged for the ball inside the area.
Mourinho told Mediaset after the match: “It’s a modern football penalty, the sort that wouldn’t have been given before VAR.
“The referee didn’t give it when he was three metres away but with VAR he then gives it.”
Mourinho’s contract with Roma runs out in June and the Portuguese tactician has yet to agree a new deal. More
