We hate living near major Premier League ground… parking is a nightmare, our cars get damaged by fans & cops won’t help

RESIDENTS living near a major Premier League ground say that parking is a nightmare and that fans keep damaging their cars – but cops won’t help.Chaotic parking, road closures and a mass of noisy sports fans near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have left residents furious.

One local, who wished not to be named, has been affected first hand by rowdy crowds when her car wing mirror got knocked off by football fans.
The resident lives along Bromley Road, which is often used to herd football fans as security tries to separate the home and away supporters.
She said: “This road is sometimes where they herd fans through so it is always very busy with people.
“They can be trouble. Our car wing mirror got whacked and broken and when we went to the police they just said ‘you have car insurance’.”

For events, the roads around the area are closed, making it difficult for residents to get out or in.
The local added: “My husband had to go to work one day and he couldn’t get out.

“He had to argue with the stewards because he had to go to work and they wouldn’t budge.
“In the end he was allowed to go but it shouldn’t have to take him arguing to go to work.”
Parking also is challenging during game days, when some residents are forced to park far from their houses because visitors take over the spaces.
The disgruntled local said: “You can get permits to park but it is normally not near the house and it is hard to find spaces.”
As the chanting football fans or concert goers meander past, it’s impossible to not hear them.
She said: “It’s extremely noisy when the fans are herded down the road but they are not always too bad. It depends on the game really.
“The times we worry is when we have a football team that is kind of local like Arsenal. Then the crowds can be bad.
“We complain but nothing really happens.”
Another resident said: “The road is closed all the way to Seven Sisters so I see that it can be inconvenient.
“And the tubes and trains are completely over crowded making travelling anywhere from here difficult.”
“There are sometimes some crazy people and when they congregate together they can be more boisterous.”
Local Codon Traian, 40, dreads big game days.
He said: “There is a lot of noise and it can be dangerous because there are fights.
“People smash those Corona bottles so it is bad sometimes.”
While the construction worker does not feel worried going out on game days, he does fear for his son.
He added: “I don’t feel scared but I do have a son and I would be scared for him.”
One resident, who didn’t want to be named, shared this opinion and simply said: “It’s absolutely terrible.”
Not all residents mind living next door to Spurs.
Sarah Ring, 30, said: “I think it’s great having it there.
“There are so many events available for residents – they even do career days.
“It’s great going down there when events are on as they have lots of markets so it’s really fun to take the kids.
“It’s very safe during big events. There are so many stewards. It feels very safe.”
The mum said: “It’s a really good system. They put letters through our doors about upcoming events so we are prepared.
“Road signs are put up too telling us which roads will close and they are very quick when the event has finished to move the barriers and put everything back to normal.
“When the new stadium was built they ensured that there was a level of sound proofing.”
Sarah added: “It’s not as loud with the new stadium, you can’t hear it really and when you can it doesn’t bother me.

“The club has really boosted the area and I’m sure pushed up the value of houses as more is going on here now.”

However, the match was DELAYED by ten minutes following the late arrival of the German giants.
They turned up nearly 30 minutes late due to major congestion around Stamford Bridge, which was in part caused by thousands of fans of both teams walking through the streets of West London.
Dortmund’s late arrival left them with less than an hour to prepare for the second leg of the tie – which was delayed by ten minutes.

Supporters were spotted “scrambling over the barriers outside the ground in chaotic scenes” prior to the match.
And an unknown number appear to have gained entry into the stadium without a ticket.
Manager Edin Terezic said of his side’s later arrival: “We had a bit of a delay but we are here and ready to fight for the next round.
“We didn’t know if we would start on time or if there will be a delay to kick off, it is disturbing a lot.”

However, tensions began to mount outside the stadium according to those on the scene as they were held by police before later it emerged a number had stormed the cordons.
Journalist Matt Pearson tweeted a photo of the jam-packed streets and wrote: “Thousands of Borussia Dortmund fans being held behind a police cordon ahead of #CHEBVB.
“Couple of little skirmishes, it’s been a long wait.”
Meanwhile, Potter has made two changes for the showdown.

Moment Rangers fans attack pub after cup final before being chased off by ‘Celtic maws’

THIS is the moment a mob of Rangers fans attacked a pub before being chased off by a group of “Celtic maws”.The CCTV camera footage shows the group, mostly dressed in all black with hoods and balaclavas on, charging at the Glasgow boozer.

It also shows people throwing traffic cones and pyrotechnics at the PJ Neeson pub on Allison Street in the city’s Govanhill around 5:15pm on Sunday.
We previously told how lit flares were thrown into the boozer and a man’s shirt caught fire after Sunday’s Old Firm League Cup final where Celtic beat Rangers 2-1.
But the newly-emerged security footage shows how a group of women rushed from the under-attack pub to challenge the footie yobs.
One woman – holding what appears to be a pool cue – ran out to confront one of the masked hooligans.

She was filmed kicking at him in the middle of the road as others rushed to get between the pair.
Other women ran from the pub and into the road to fend off the yobs and pulled the first woman back to the pavement.
The footage went viral after being shared on social media, gathering over 3,000 likes.
And the women who ran out to confront the hooligans have been branded “Celtic maws” by social media users.

Fans were quick to react to the clip, with one playing a pun on a classic song by The Clash, joking: “I fought the maws and the maws won.”
Police were called to the area after the trouble flared up following the final.
But officers confirmed that the crowds were dispersed and no arrests were made.
P.J Neeson previously declined to comment when approached by the Scottish Sun.
It comes as four people were arrested after the match as cops probe an alleged pre-match ‘hooligan brawl’.
Police confirmed they nicked four people for disorder-related offences in response to a number of alleged incidents.
It followed a street battle between hooligans from both sides hours before the final.
The fans were seen in Glasgow’s southside after swarming towards each other at the west and north sides of the ground before breakfast time.
It’s believed cops will crack down hard on the two groups of ‘ultras’ and will use social media videos to help find those involved.
But the brawl has led to a top cup saying footie ultras should be BANNED from getting early access to stadiums to lay out banners.

The match in the Southern League Premier Central – the seventh tier of English football – saw Tamworth beating their opponents 2-0 before fan trouble forced the game to be abandoned.
A Tamworth club statement read: “A keenly contested football match between two local rivals was being enjoyed by the vast majority of the 2156 crowd inside the Lamb ground on Tuesday evening.
“The date of this fixture was selected by the Southern League following the original date not being available due to Tamworth’s involvement in the FA Trophy.
“In line with league rules, this game had to be played within 42 days of the original date.

“Unfortunately, a very small minority of Nuneaton supporters in their segregated area instigated ugly scenes by throwing flares and other objects onto the pitch and into a group of Tamworth supporters when the home side scored their second goal.
“The stewarding team, which had been supplemented by an outside company, worked very hard to restore order.
“At that point, the Tamworth supporters were asked to move away from the top end of the ground to create a sterile area from the halfway line and we would like to thank them for their orderly manner and swift evacuation to other parts of the ground.”
Staffordshire Police had sent officers into Tamworth town centre an hour before kick-off to escort fans to the ground amid reports of “emerging tensions between a minority of fans.”

Police, who were aware of the fixture, were also informed of damage dealt to the away end toilets at the ground.
Tamworth’s statement added: “Tamworth Football Club totally condemns this behaviour which spoiled a very good evening and should have been a showcase for Non-League Football.
“We are now working with the Police to identify the perpetrators of this behaviour using CCTV, social media and still photographs.
“The incident is being investigated by the authorities and we will update supporters once we are aware of the outcomes.”
No arrests were made at the time of the incident, but Police confirmed they had identified a number of suspects and “will be taking appropriate action.”
The force also confirmed that two stewards reported being assaulted while another fan suffered a non-life-threatening head injury following a fall.
Nuneaton also released a statement condemning the acts seen at the game and confirmed they would be working with the relevant parties to ensure it would not happen again.
It read: “Nuneaton Borough FC are deeply saddened and disappointed at the turn of events that led to the abandonment of last night’s Southern League Premier Central fixture at the Lamb against Tamworth FC.

“In what should have been a showcase event for non-league football as a whole, the actions of a small minority of ‘so-called’ football fans has turned this into a worst-case scenario outcome for both clubs…

‘Kid called me a ‘f***ing Chinese p***k’ – Neil Etheridge joins Troy Deeney in revealing impact of shocking racist abuse

IN the space of 17 days, Birmingham team-mates Troy Deeney and Neil Etheridge have been victims of racial abuse from fans at English football grounds. And, yes, you can check the dateline at the top of this story, the year is 2023.
The recent experiences of Neil Etheridge and Troy Deeney show how much work still has to be done to curb racism in footballCredit: Roland Leon Sun Commissioned

Britain has been a multicultural  society for decades and its national sport has been surrounded by anti-racism campaigns, slogans and gestures for several years, too.
Yet here we are, discussing the serious impact on two experienced, “thick-skinned” pro footballers who  suffered vile racial slurs from the terraces.
In this interview, Birmingham captain Deeney and keeper Etheridge describe feelings of degradation,  worthlessness, numbness — even shame — after they were victims of sickening slurs on the basis of their ethnic origin.
A high-profile black man, Deeney suffers dozens of instances of racism every week — mostly online, but  occasionally in person.
    READ MORE TOP FOOTBALL
And, most recently, from a supporter of his own club after Tuesday’s 2-0 home defeat by Cardiff.
Etheridge is half-Asian — his father is white British, his mother Filipino.
Other than one incident at school in an “affluent, white area that wasn’t multicultural”, he had never suffered racial abuse until the dying moments of a 2-2 FA Cup draw at Blackburn Rovers on January 28.
When I asked Deeney whether he wanted to write about Tuesday’s incident at St Andrew’s in his weekly SunSport column, he suggested that Etheridge joined our conversation.

It felt like I’d been stabbed with a hot knife in an area of my body I didn’t even know I had. You feel numb, degraded, worthless.Neil Etheridge
Deeney suggested some people might be tired of hearing him “banging on about racism again”. It’s sad he fears such attitudes, but perhaps he is right.
He felt Etheridge might offer a different perspective. To prove racism wasn’t exclusively a “black issue” and also to hear how it felt to be racially abused from the terraces for the first time.
Recalling the incident, Etheridge says: “We scored a last-minute equaliser  at Ewood Park, I’d celebrated by the  halfway line and, as I walked back towards the goal, I  heard the normal sort of abuse you get used to.
“Then, all of a sudden, there was a person standing out in the crowd and it got very nasty. He was saying, ‘You f***ing Chinese p***k’.
“He then pulled his face back to  give the impression he had ‘Chinese’ eyes, as people might say. I was really taken aback.
“It felt like I’d been stabbed with a hot knife in an area of my body I didn’t even know I had.
“You feel completely numb, completely degraded and worthless, which is a really weird sensation. It cuts you deep.
“Mentally, it’s affecting you. Then you start questioning yourself.
“When the police spoke to me, I’m thinking, ‘Has this really happened?’ Although the CCTV footage made it pretty damned clear it had.
“I reported it to the referee, he  dealt with it well and the FA got involved. The police found the culprit.
“The culprit has admitted the offence. It was a 15-year-old.
“The kid said he didn’t believe it was racist — that is what we are  dealing with, a complete lack of education and understanding. That’s why we both wanted to speak . . . ”
Striker Deeney reported abuse as Birmingham lost 2-0 at home to Cardiff in the Championship on TuesdayCredit: Rex
Deeney intervenes: “You’re not going to offend me, mate, we have discussed this . . . the idea of a ‘black agenda’, as if racism is solely a black issue.”
“That’s what I mean,” says Etheridge. “There are fewer Asian people in English football — as a half-Asian player, it’s not being talked about,  then people can say “it [anti-Asian discrimination] isn’t racist, is it?”
As for Tuesday’s incident, Deeney explains: “I’d come on 15 minutes  from time, at 0-0, and Cardiff scored two late goals.
“At the final whistle, we go around the pitch and clap — win, lose or draw.
“Then we came to the tunnel, it’s the kids and disabled area, and you  often hear, ‘Troy, can I have your shirt?’
“In this instance, I’m hearing  swearing and abuse aimed at everyone. Then I spot this guy on the concourse.
“He is leaning over, we’ve made eye contact, and it is, ‘You black c***, you f***ing n*****’. I asked, ‘What did you say?’ and he repeated it. I’m like, ‘Wow, you really don’t give a f*** do you?’”
I ask Deeney how this made him feel. I apologise if the question sounds trite but, as a white man with no experience of suffering racism, I want him to differentiate between this experience and that of an angry fan shouting abuse without racial connotations.
Deeney says: “You know what? My first thought on Tuesday was to question myself, almost as if I’m trying to justify what he’s said. I’m asking, ‘I wasn’t that bad was I?’
“Then the rage comes. And after that, I can only describe it as shame. You feel embarrassed. You feel ‘less than’.
“You end up looking at yourself, thinking, ‘Am I what I thought I was?’
Deeney and Etheridge revealed the distress caused by racismCredit: Roland Leon Sun Commissioned
“You have to be a bit arrogant to  be a professional footballer. But I’m  asking, ‘Am I actually good at football or just what this bloke says I am?’
“You build a tolerance to being called a c*** or fat or s**t or rubbish.
“I’ve been called every single word about my footballing ability, I’m used to it and I will wear it. But if you have to go racial and cultural, I’ll never understand that. I am a big-headed, fat c***, I don’t care, but when it was racial . . . ”
Etheridge intervenes: “I discussed  it with my old man and he said  ‘uneducated people’.
“But those guys at Chelsea who abused Raheem Sterling a few years ago, who can afford to buy tickets for Chelsea v Man City, I’m guessing, but they might not be that uneducated.
“I didn’t fully understand until  it happened to me. Until you have been through it, you can’t. I want to make sure it doesn’t happen to the next generation of players.
“I’m 33, if that happened to a 21-year-old, they might not be able to control themselves to go to the ref . . . it’s not an easy process.
“I can only imagine what those lads went through being abused after the Euros final — Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho — it’s a  complete mindf***.”
I’ve been called every single word about my footballing ability, I’m used to it and I will wear it. But if you have to go racial and cultural, I’ll never understand that.Troy Deeney
Deeney says: “Neil has been around racism but until it  specifically hits you, you really can’t  comprehend that shameful feeling.
“It’s not that we are ashamed to  be black or Asian, of our heritage,  it’s the way people can make you  feel ‘less than’. No one has any control over what colour they are.”
Etheridge agrees: “As senior players we have thick skins, we’ve played at the highest level in front of big crowds.
“You gain a certain tolerance to abuse but when you are being abused racially, you just can’t imagine how degrading it is for one human being to say those things to another.”
Deeney believes racial abuse is  part of a wider feeling of “entitlement” among football supporters.
He says: “We’ve created a herd  mentality. As soon as you go through the turnstiles there are no rules, no respect, a feeling of entitlement, ‘I pay my money and  can do what I want’.
“You’re a Chinese p***k, you’re a black c***, in the street or at work people are aware they can’t say this stuff.”
Etheridge says: “It’s like the other night at Arsenal with Kevin De Bruyne, the same herd mentality.  People chucking missiles.”
“Yes, I was at the Arsenal-City game,” says Deeney, “Nowhere else in life would you see someone launch a bottle and get 15 more people saying, ‘That’s a good idea, I’ll lob a bottle, too’.
Kevin de Bruyne had bottles thrown at him by Arsenal fans, but hit back by winking at the perpetrators as Man City won 3-1
“But if Kevin launches one back, he’s in the wrong. If Neil goes into the crowd and grabs the kid at Blackburn, the FA would be on him like a ton of bricks.”
On the evening of the Blackburn game, Etheridge was scrolling through Twitter.
He says: “A woman who’d been at the game had written, ‘This is what  he thinks of that crybaby Birmingham goalkeeper’.  And then there is a  video of, presumably, her son, no  older than ten.
