Kurt Zouma faces calls to be prosecuted for animal cruelty as more than 7,000 sign petition calling for justice

THOUSANDS of people have signed a petition calling for shamed West Ham ace Kurt Zouma to be prosecuted for animal cruelty. The defender was filmed kicking one of his two cats like a football and slapping it out of a child’s hands in disturbing footage filmed at his multimillion-pound mansion.
Thousands of furious Brits have signed a petition calling on the Met Police to prosecute West Ham ace Kurt Zouma
More than 7,000 people have signed the petition hours after The Sun exclusively shared footage of the player booting his cat like a football
He’s since issued a grovelling apology after the film, shared by his brother Yoan on Snapchat, was exclusively featured by The Sun.
But the Premier League ace could still face a criminal prosecution if the RSPCA deems the clip contains illegal behaviour.
The Met Police say they won’t be investigating, although the charity has its own powers to prosecute if it sees fit.
Now more than 7,000 Brits have signed a petition calling for the Met to launch a probe.
The Change.org petition, started by Matthew Dixon, says: “Professional football player Kurt Zouma was filmed horrendously abusing a defenceless animal.
“He should be prosecuted for his actions.”
    It comes as:

Mr Dixon wrote: “Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition.
“This ‘man’ cannot be allowed to get away with abusing this poor cat in this way.”
West Ham says the matter will be dealt with internally.
Zouma is likely to be dropped for West Ham’s clash against Watford tonight as the club disciplines the player.
It is thought the Hammers star man could be at least fined wages for the shamed clips, which fans have complained puts their season in jeopardy.
The club said: “West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.
“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”
    ‘PROSECUTE HIM’
Zouma, 27, last night apologised after the emergence of the sick clips.
The video was filmed at his £2million house on Sunday afternoon – a day after he appeared for West Ham in the FA Cup.
“I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret,” he said.
“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”
Thousands of people have contacted the RSPCA urging the charity to prosecute.
The issue has also been discussed on breakfast television.
    BRITS’ FURY
Susanna Reid told Good Morning Britain viewers: “There is something sickening about the defensive abuse of a helpless animal.
“Why would you do that? What on earth possesses you to mistreat an animal like that? And then thinking it’s a good laugh.”
Her co-star Richard Madeley replied: “Power and control.
“I think there needs to be a prosecution.”
Meanwhile, animal charity Blue Cross has also backed calls for a criminal investigation.
Chief executive officer Chris Burghes said: “The video is appalling and very distressing to watch.

“This kind of cruelty is unacceptable towards any living being, and for a child to also witness this is additionally disturbing.

Football manager Joey Barton in court today after ‘attacking Barnsley coach in tunnel after match’

JOEY Barton is set to go on trial accused of assaulting another football manager after a heated League One game. The Bristol Rovers manager, 39, denies attacking then-Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel back in April 2019.

He arrived alone this morning for a hearing at Sheffield Crown CourtCredit: PA
Prosecutors allege he attacked Daniel Stendel, then the manager of Barnsley
Prosecutors claim Barton – who was then managing Fleetwood – hit out in the tunnel after a Barnsley win.
Stendel was left with facial injuries after the alleged bust-up.
Ex-Premier League star Barton, of Widnes in Cheshire, was said to be furious after seeing one of his players sent off in a 4-2 defeat.
A steward and a cop stopped his BMW from leaving the ground.
He was later arrested after Barnsley complained to South Yorkshire Police about the alleged incident.
A trial will begin at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday after jurors were selected today.
The fracas was initially sparked after Fleetwood’s Harry Souttar was sent off midway through the second half.
Barton was furious that German manager Stendel had got involved and chased him down the tunnel at the full-time whistle.
The two managers were seen squaring up to each other on the touchline at the final whistle, with Stendel waving his finger at Barton.
Barton then shook hands with Barnsley staff and the match officials before racing off up the tunnel where the alleged brawl took place.
    BARTON IN THE DOCK
The former midfielder played more than 250 Premier League games for Newcastle United, Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers.
He began managing League One side Fleetwood Town in 2018, before moving to Bristol Rovers in February this year, shortly before the club were relegated to League Two.
Barton started his football career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system and went on to make 150 appearances for the club.
He then moved to Newcastle United in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007 before leaving for Queens Park Rangers in August 2011.

The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season before making his way to Burnley for one season – helping promote them to the Premier League.
Barton made one appearance for England in 2007.

Brighton star Yves Bissouma’s bail extended for five weeks after dramatic nightclub arrest

PREMIER League ace Yves Bissouma today had his bail extended for another five weeks following his dramatic nightclub arrest. The in-form Brighton midfielder, 25, was led away in handcuffs by uniformed cops in the early hours of October 6 after he was detained on suspicion of assault.
Brighton ace Yves Bissouma’s bail has been extended
The star was arrested in the early hours of the morning last month at a Brighton club
Shocked revellers at The Arch, on the seafront in Brighton, told how they saw Bissouma being marched out of a packed nightclub in handcuffs by police officers.
The Man Utd and Liverpool target spent a night in the cells with a pal in his 40s.
The pair were bailed until today.
But Sussex Police confirmed they’ve extended the date as investigations continue.
A spokesperson said: “The bail date for both individuals has been extended to Monday, December 6 while investigations continue.
“No further information is available at this time.”
Bissouma, a likely big-money target in the upcoming January transfer window, was filmed by revellers during his arrest at 2am.
An insider said: “The club was packed — it was a popular student night, especially with freshers in town.
    STAR BAILED AGAIN
“People were starstruck to see Bissouma in the club — he’s Brighton’s best player at the moment, so he definitely caught some eyes.
“They were even more shocked to see him later being led away in handcuffs outside the club.
“People were absolutely stunned by what was going on.
“The next thing we knew, two police officers were taking him away in cuffs. I couldn’t believe it.”
Brighton said at the time of £45,000-a-week Bissouma’s arrest: “Brighton & Hove Albion are aware that one of its players is assisting police with the investigation of an alleged offence.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment at this time.”
The star has been one of Brighton’s top performers this year.
He recently declared his aim to be the best in the top flight.
    SHOCK ARREST
Asked who was the Premier League’s top midfielder, he told BBC One’s Football Focus: “I don’t want to be arrogant, but it’s me because in my head I am working to be the best. So I cannot say another name.
“I know in the Premier League there are so many good midfielders, but for me, it’s me because that gives me the confidence and the energy to work hard to show people I am here and I am Bissouma.”
The player — born in the Ivory Coast but now a Mali international — signed for the Seagulls from French side Lille in 2018 for a reported £15million.
He scored his first goal for the club against Bournemouth in the FA Cup third round in 2019. Bissouma has since attracted the attentions of a clutch of Big Six clubs with a string of impressive performances.
One against Everton last season had Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher raving he was “the best player by a mile on the pitch”. He added: “You looked at him and he really does look like a top-quality player.”
Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has called him an “exceptional footballer”.
Among his highlights was a 30-yard strike he netted against Everton in October 2020, which won him the club’s Goal of the Month award.

Brighton had to fight tooth and nail to keep him over the summer amid fierce interest, and he started this season equally strongly before picking up a knee injury.
He has been tipped to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.
Brighton manager Graham Potter has branded his 6ft star “unique”, saying he “does not have a direct replacement” for him.

One of the alleged assaults is said to have happened days before he appeared in the dock.
Now Louis Saha Matturie, 40, has appeared before magistrates in Chester after he was this weekend charged with four rapes.
Matturie, who is originally from Sierra Leone and was described in court as Mendy’s “runner”, was arrested last month – shortly after the footballer’s first appearance.
The defendant, who wept during proceedings, spoke only to confirm his name and address.
His lawyer submitted a bail application – but it was rejected and Matturie was remanded into custody.
A Chesire Police spokesman said: “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge a second man in connection with allegations of sexual assault.
“Louis Saha Matturie, aged 40, has been charged with four counts of rape.
“The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between April 2021 and August 2021.

“Matturie, of Eccles, has been remanded in custody.”
He will appear alongside Mendy at Chester Crown Court on Friday.
The French World Cup winner was arrested after a 17-year-old girl alleged she had been sexually abused at his £5m mansion this August.
Mendy, 27, was immediately suspended by Manchester City after he was then charged with four counts of rape and one sexual assault.
The charges, alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021, relate to three complainants.
Mendy appeared in court on August 27.
The court was told he allegedly raped a teen during a party at his home.
The alleged offence took place while Mendy was already on bail.
    PAIR IN THE DOCK
He is accused of raping a woman last October, as well as a sexual assault in January.
The football ace showed no emotion as he was remanded in custody following the hearing.
Hours after his appearance in court, Cheshire Constabulary said a second man has been quizzed by detectives.
Cops said a 40-year-old man was being held “in connection to an ongoing investigation into sexual offences”.
French international Mendy was arrested last November at his £5million home in Prestbury, Cheshire.
He was then released pending further investigation before being re-arrested and charged last month.
Mendy, who earns £90,000 a week, has been remanded in custody.
    RAPE CHARGES
He arrived at court in a prison van with a police escort on August 27.
The player, who wore a red hoodie and black jogging bottoms, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
In a statement, the club said: “Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”
Premier League champions Man City spent a reported £49.2million signing Mendy from French side Monaco in 2017.
He last played for the club on August 15 during their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at the start of the season.
In September last year City boss Pep Guardiola revealed Mendy would be out of the game for at least a month due to an injury.

Avon and Somerset Police had been called to the Gloucester Road area of Bristol after reports of loud music coming from two houses.
Officers discovered more than 200 people outside of the property who were also blocking the entire road.
On their arrival officers then went into one of the houses and issued the hefty fine to its occupants for breaching Covid rules.
Supt Mark Runacres said: “Officers accessed one of the properties and the occupants were issued with a £10,000 fixed penalty notice for breaching COVID-19 legislation and sound equipment was seized.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify and issue an equivalent fixed penalty notice to those responsible for playing the loud music from the second property.
“It’s so positive to see the vast majority of people celebrating the incredible achievements of the England football team responsibly, but unlicensed music events cannot be tolerated.”

The police officer added that the parties had caused “significant disruption” to people living nearby and had “put public safety at risk”.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s final, he added: “We have well-practised plans in place for the conclusion of the tournament this weekend, including high-visibility proactive patrols, to allow people to enjoy themselves but more importantly, to stay safe.
“We fully understand people’s desire to watch the Euro 2020 final with friends and family.

“Few people have been able to attend games or socialise and watch matches together over the past year and we’re not trying to stop people having fun.
“However, we would ask the public and businesses to make sure they continue to comply with legal restrictions around COVID-19 and follow the current health advice.”
Those who are caught organising mass gatherings during the pandemic and breaching coronavirus legislation are being hit with £10k fines.
The have been 250 of the maximum penalty fines handed to organisers of mass gatherings of more than 30 people, including illegal raves, parties and protests, in England, with two in Wales.

The 47-year-old scored against Gillingham and Nottingham Forest in his best season inside the first-team and has fans recalling their memories while on the beat.
Wright told the Mirror: “Some people have obviously recognised that I played for Leicester.
“I’ve had it in custody as well, which was so funny.
“The custody sergeant had a Leicester City face mask on and straight away made a beeline to me as I was reading out the charges.
“And then the suspect’s appropriate adult had a Nottingham Forest face covering on, so he said, ‘I’ll tell him about your goal against us’.
“We had a bit of banter when it was appropriate, which I think can help tense situations like that.
“You see the initial look on their face when they notice and have a quick joke before getting back to the matter.”
The former striker also turned out for the likes of Barnsley, Aberdeen and Darlington before a spell as manager of the Quakers.

Snarling Man Utd fans pelt cops with bottles and shout ‘f***ing pigs’ in terrifying new video from protest front line

POLICE officers were pelted with bottles by swarming Manchester United fans shouting “f***ing pigs” in shocking new footage from yesterday’s protests at Old Trafford. Terrified cops were drastically outnumbered by a minority of violent demonstrators at the largely peaceful protest outside the ground, before fans karate kicked their way into Old Trafford.

The footage shows the ferocious gang launch bottles and other objects as they faced off with police, antagonising them with howls of “f***ing pigs” and “f***ing cowards”.
Officers drew their batons in attempt to fend off the mob, as glass shattered just inches from them and some were physically struck during the clash.
An estimated 10,000 fans gathered outside the Theatre of Dreams in protest of the club’s owners, the Glazer family, resulting in the Red Devil’s Premier League game against Liverpool being postponed.
Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation after two officers were injured during the disturbance on Sunday.
Assistant chief constable Russ Jackson condemned fans “reckless and dangerous” behaviour after one copper was attacked with a broken bottle and slashed across the face – requiring emergency hospital treatment.

“At different points, bottles and barriers were thrown, officers assaulted and people scaled the stadium structure creating risk for themselves and officers,” he continued.
Supporters chanted and let off flares outside Old Trafford before one protestor spectacularly karate kicked his way inside, much to the delight of fans who promptly charged indoors.
The club have vehemently denied reports that a door was opened by staff, releasing a statement explaining the throng of fans climbed the gates at the end of the Munich tunnel to gain access.
Others then opened an external door which allowed the herd to travel through the concourse area and onto the pitch.
Some slid down the tarpaulin sheets covering the empty seats or snuck through the disabled section to storm the pitch shortly before the scheduled kick-off.
But even after authorities managed to usher the crowds away, it was decided the match would not go ahead.
Staff inside the stadium were ordered to remain in offices with the doors locked for their own safety, before another invasion took place.
“A second breach occurred when a protestor smashed the door of a disability access lift, enabling a group to enter the stand,” Man U’s statement read.
Yesterday’s United statement explained: “Following discussion between the Police, The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest today.”
Players did not leave their hotel rooms amid further safety concerns, after hundreds gathered outside the Lowry Hotel – even blocking the squad from leaving the premises.

“This stadium, if you go behind the scenes, is rusty and rotting. The training ground is probably not even in the top five in this country.”
