Football betting tips: Cavani debut goal, Arsenal vs Leicester plus Bale to mark return – Premier League predictions

ANOTHER week, another packed Premier League schedule to get our teeth into.
We’ve got betting tips for you from three top-flight matches, starting at Old Trafford where Manchester United welcome Frank Lampard’s inconsistent Chelsea.

Man Utd host Chelsea in a crunch game on Saturday eveningCredit: The Mega Agency
Man Utd vs Chelsea – Saturday, 5.30 (Sky Sports)

It’s hardly dull following either of these teams at the moment.

Manchester United and Chelsea both seem to be in a period of transition, lurching from grinding lows one week to unreal highs the next.
Look no further than the Red Devils’ awful defeat to Spurs, a horrid afternoon for Ole’s men which could have haunted them for the winter to come.
Two weeks on and they’re celebrating a Champions League win in PSG’s backyard. Football, eh?
Chelsea are similarly unpredictable and despite a huge summer outlay on attacking talent were unable to break down a stubborn Sevilla in midweek.

Frank Lampard’s side had no problem finding the net against Southampton the other weekend.
It was at the other end where the real issues were.
Edouard Mendy returned in midweek and kept a clean sheet, with veteran Petr Cech seemingly now preferred over calamitous Kepa.
Despite Mendy’s solid performance in Europe, we’re backing another Prem goal fest here.

Neither team is good value on the win market and you’re really risking your cash plumping either way with these sides involved.
United’s games this season are averaging a whopping 5.3 goals per match. Yep.

And Chelsea’s own stats aren’t far behind, with games involving the Blues featuring 4.4 per game.
With five of the last eight H2H’s featuring three or more goals, that’s the basic play here at Old Trafford.
PSG wasted a number of chances in midweek and we’re not quite sure how Phil Jones – as much-maligned as he is – can’t even make it into United’s 25-man Premier League squad.
They are so short in defence and it shows – back Chelsea to score over 1.5 goals at 11/10 which they’ve done in both their away matches this campaign.
Edinson Cavani is expected to play after being forced to sit out the victory in Paris.
It remains to be seen if he’s at peak condition after playing just 20 games for club and country last season.
But if United do get him fit, he knows where the goal is.
Cavani netted in his first home starts for Paris Saint-Germain back in August 2013 and Napoli in 2010 – back him at 13/8 anytime to repeat the trick.
    SunSport’s best bets

Arsenal vs Leicester, Sunday 7.15pm (Sky Sports)
It’s back to fortress Emirates as Arsenal look to return to winning ways after defeat to Man City.
Mikel Arteta’s men kick-off this Sunday night clash level on points with the visitors and without a Premier League defeat at home in 2020.
They’re proving solid, if unspectacular, this campaign and have got the job done in North London against West Ham and Sheffield United.
Leicester meanwhile continue to be wildly unpredictable.
Their poor form after the lockdown period saw them throw away a Champions League berth for this season – but they’d looked to have turned a corner after three wins from three to start the new term.
That included the 5-2 thrashing of Man City at the Etihad, but ever since then the wheels have fallen off slightly.
They’re trying to avoid a third-straight defeat here after going down meekly to the Hammers and then Aston Villa last week.
The Foxes scored 12 in their opening three games, but have drawn a blank since.
Luckily for them, we reckon that run ends at the Emirates.

Despite Arsenal’s good form here, they are leaky at the back and haven’t kept a home clean sheet since hosting Norwich back in July.
Speaking of which, that month was when Leicester visited last and then picked up a point in a 1-1 draw.
We see a very similar game for Sunday, with Brendan Rodgers men determined to put an end to this losing run.
History isn’t on their side though and Leicester have lost on 12 of their last 15 visits to North London.
They’ve scored on six of the last seven H2H’s here though and we reckon they do again, with both teams to score our banker of the weekend at 8/13.
The Foxes needed the international break to regroup and we reckon they give the Gunners a real game here – take the 17/20 on them getting either a draw or a victory on the double chance market.
Jamie Vardy has five Premier League goals already this season and will be a popular choice for those of you punting on the goalscorer market. The latest updates suggest he should return from injury for this game.
But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got the Gunners goal in this matchup back in July and is currently on a four-game dry spell.
He went through a similar run twice last season – and both times ended it with a goal in the fifth match.
We reckon he’s the man to be on for the opener at 14/5, or 19/20 anytime if you’re playing things safe.
    SunSport’s best bets
Both teams to score at Emirates: 8/13 (BET HERE)
Leicester double chance (draw or Foxes win): 19/20 (BET HERE)
Aubameyang to score first: 14/5 (BET HERE)

Burnley vs Tottenham, Monday 8pm (Sky Sports)
Oh to be a fly on the wall of the Spurs dressing room last week.
Tottenham let a three-goal lead slip in the final eight minutes against West Ham, capitulating in stunning fashion to Jose Mourinho’s horror.
That didn’t however stop them being made third-favourites for the Premier League title this season, regardless of the freak comeback.
In Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, they currently have the most dangerous double-act in the division.
And Gareth Bale could be added to the fray for this Monday Night clash under the lights. Tasty.
Burnley started last season slowly and eventually picked up some form, but Sean Dyche will still be concerned by their start this time around.
One point from a possible 12 and no victories from games against West Brom, Southampton, Newcastle and Leicester is not ideal.
Concerning for the Clarets too is their paltry three goals so far, two of which came on opening day.
They need to find their shooting boots – and fast.

Harry Kane is now joint-seventh in the list of players with the most hat-tricks

Tottenham are the league’s top scorers and if Burnley are to get anything out of this, we reckon they’ll need to score at least twice.
When meeting on this ground back in March, the teams played out a tepid 1-1 draw with Spurs playing no recognised striker.
It’s all change this time round and with their form going forward, they’re the ones to back on the goals market.
For a start, Tottenham are a great price of 8/13 to win the game and we think they will have learnt from the embarrassing Hammers debacle.
Spurs to win and over 2.5 goals is a terrific 6/4 and our biggest fancy for this one.
And to play it safer with another excellent price, take Tottenham to score in BOTH halves at a massive 31/20.
Plenty is expected of Bale since his return from Real Madrid and all eyes were on the Welsh superstar as he played against LASK on Thursday night.
He looked sharp and provided the assist for the second goal, showing that old magic is still there.
Kane is evens to net at Burnley and that’s a great price, but we prefer a fairytale punt on Bale marking his return to the Premier League with a goal at a huge 9/5.
    SunSport’s best bets
Tottenham to win and over 2.5 goals: 6/4 (BET HERE)
Spurs to score in both halves: 31/20 (BET HERE)
Gareth Bale to net first goal since return: 9/5 (BET HERE)

Leeds vs Wolves betting tips: Bamford to continue hot streak, both teams to net tonight – Premier League predictions

LEEDS UNITED face Wolves tonight to cap this weekend’s Premier League action.
West Ham pulled off a miraculous comeback, Manchester United got back to winning ways, Arsenal failed at Man City while Liverpool and Everton played out a Merseyside derby thriller.

    2

Leeds vs Wolves, Monday 8pm (Sky Sports)

The league’s great entertainers are back.
We expected Leeds to hit the ground running this season with their high-intensity style, but even the most optimistic of fans in West Yorkshire must be delighted with this start.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men held Man City last time out in a pulsating 1-1 encounter at Elland Road, with both sides having chances to snatch the three points.
Wolves got back to winning ways against Fulham, which was needed after an uncharacteristic thrashing at West Ham.

Nuno Santo’s side pride themselves on their ability to bounce back and it’ll be fascinating to see how they approach the tactical dilemma of this swarming Leeds outfit.
They will be targeting a European place again this season and can kickstart a run here with Newcastle, Palace, Leicester and Southampton to come next.
We see goals under the lights at Elland Road – and plenty of them.

Two of Leeds’ four top-flight games have featured three or more goals so far, but that doesn’t tell the entire truth.

Their 1-0 win over Sheffield United could and perhaps should have finished 3-3, while you could say something similar about the wide open draw with City.
Bielsa won’t change his style for the opposition and expect Leeds to be at it from the off after a fortnight to regroup.
Over 2.5 goals is a massive 23/20 and we think it should be an odds-on shout. As decent as Wolves’ defence is, Leeds are hardly brilliant at the back and have conceded eight in four games.
We can see another score draw and as well as three or more goals, so back both teams to score in the first half at a very generous 17/4.
That was a winner in Leeds’ games with Liverpool and Fulham, while Wolves showed when they visited South Yorkshire in their season curtain raiser that they can start fast.
On that occasion, they led 2-0 after six minutes. Rapid.

    2

Expect goals and expect them fast – there’s big profit to be had.
Patrick Bamford is riding on the crest of a promotion wave and continues to be preferred by Bielsa over big summer signing Rodrigo.
We’re not convinced that stays the case for the remainder of the campaign, but right now the softly-spoken frontman is showing a clinical side he lacked over the past two seasons in the Championship.
Get him while he’s hot – another Bamford goal is 21/10, which is £31 return for a tenner.
    SunSport’s best bets
Over 2.5 goals at Elland Road: 23/20 (BET HERE)

Football betting tips: Aubameyang goal for Arsenal plus Newcastle vs Man Utd – Premier League predictions

THE Premier League is back after the international break – and we’ve betting tips to bring you from four huge top-flight matches.
It’s been all about goals in this bizarre behind-closed-door season, and that trend continued in the Merseyside derby.

    4

Lampard’s side got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Palace last time outCredit: AFP or licensors
Man City vs Arsenal, Saturday 5.30pm (Sky Sports)

It’s the Master vs the Apprentice at the Etihad.
Think back to June and the whole drama surrounding Project Restart, with Arsenal arriving to face Man City as fans were buoyant to see the return of Premier League football.
A disasterclass from David Luiz later, Gunners fans were taking to social media demanding the season be cancelled.
That all seems a long, long time ago and it shows on the team-sheet with Eddie Nketiah, Matteo Guendouzi and Pablo Mari all starting for the away side that night.

Arsenal have won three of their opening four matches and will be buoyed by the FA Cup Final win over City back in July.
The international break came at a good time for Pep Guardiola, with his side held at Leeds and still reeling from a 5-2 home defeat to Leicester.
One thing is for sure – you can’t trust either of these teams in the win market.
Man City are heavy odds-on favourites, which we won’t be going anywhere near.

    4

How Thomas Partey compares to Arsenal’s other central midfielders
They might have won the last four Premier League meetings here, but the Gunners have netted in three of those defeats.
We see them doing the same again, but it’s best to play on goals with the Premier League proving a real basket case at the moment.
Arsenal seem to have a renewed focus under Arteta, more bite, and Thomas Partey will provide some real grit in the centre of the park.
Games involving the Gunners this season are averaging more than three goals per game and over 2.5 goals is priced up accordingly at 4/9.
We do however like over 3.5 goals at an excellent 11/10, which would be a winner in the four of the last seven H2H’s at the Etihad.
And with goals on the menu, both teams to score in BOTH halves is a huge 9/1. Definitely worth a small play.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the FA Cup hero and he’s had nearly a fortnight with his feet up after pulling out of the Gabon squad.
He’s a massive 7/4 to net anytime, or 11/2 if you fancy him to bag first.
With City’s leaky defence, you take those prices.
    SunSport’s best bets
Over 3.5 goals at the Etihad: 11/10(BET HERE)
Both teams to score in BOTH halves: 9/1 (BET HERE)
Aubameyang to net: 7/4 (BET HERE)

Newcastle vs Man Utd, Saturday 7.45pm (Sky Sports)
Two weeks on from the Spurs shambles, it’s time to see if Man Utd can pick themselves up off the canvas.
Jose Mourinho’s men ran riot at Old Trafford before the international break, tearing United apart in a 6-1 drubbing which leaves Ole’s men languishing in 16th.
Reports over the past fortnight suggest Ed Woodward is ready to pull the trigger – and Solskjaer needs three points here to stem the tide.
That will be easier said than done though against a Newcastle side who have proved themselves to be a resolute unit already this season.
Two wins from four, just one defeat and only five conceded – that’s an excellent start from Steve Bruce’s men.
They showed last season that they can beat the Red Devils on home turf, as Matty Longstaff fired in a late winner last October to hand Toon a 1-0 victory.
One criticism we can level at this Bruce side is you’ve no idea what you’re going to get.
Against Burnley, they were strong, committed and clinical in putting away one of the division’s most difficult teams to break down.
But against Brighton, they were timid and tired as the Seagulls romped to a comfortable 3-0 win at St James Park.

    4

Toon are 4/1 to win the game and that’s high, we won’t put you off backing that but it’s not our recommended selection.
Instead, go for Newcastle to win EITHER half – so playing it safer – at a mammoth 7/4.
United have failed to keep a clean sheet so far this season and we reckon they concede again, with no major defensive reinforcements picked up in the transfer window.
Both teams to score is an excellent 7/10, while we also liked Newcastle to score first a massive 9/5.
Toon were fast starters last time out against Burnley and that’s a big price for the same to happen again.
For United, they have the weapons going forward but it’s a case of keeping things out at the other end – and they could be without Harry Maguire who looks completely out of sorts following a dire half hour for England in midweek.
Marcus Rashford was on target for the Three Lions last weekend and will once again be trusted with leading the line in the absence of the suspended Anthony Martial and a quarantined Edinson Cavani.
At 7/4, he’s the value pick to net anytime.
    SunSport’s best bets
Newcastle to win EITHER half: 7/4 (BET HERE)
Both teams to score at St James Park: 7/10 (BET HERE)
Toon to score first: 9/5 (BET HERE)
Marcus Rashford on the scoresheet again: 7/4(BET HERE)

Leeds vs Wolves, Monday 8pm (Sky Sports)
The league’s great entertainers are back.
We expected Leeds to hit the ground running this season with their high-intensity style, but even the most optimistic of fans in West Yorkshire must be delighted with this start.

    4

Leeds are the top tacklers and hardest workers in the PL
Rapid.

Football betting tips: Werner to end drought, Aubameyang goal plus Newcastle vs Man Utd – Premier League predictions

THE Premier League is back after the international break – and we’ve betting tips to bring you from four huge top-flight matches.
It’s been all about goals in this bizarre behind-closed-door season, with plenty more expected as Southampton travel to West London for a Saturday afternoon clash.

    5

Lampard’s side got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Palace last time outCredit: AFP or licensors

    Chelsea vs Southampton, Saturday 3pm

The international break came at just the right time for Frank Lampard.
Although his Blues side got back to winning ways with a flattering 4-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out, you felt he needed to hit a reset button after a sluggish start.
It’s now two wins from four in the new Premier League season for a Chelsea side trying to bed in a number of new faces.
One of those is Edouard Mendy – who is already in the treatment room.

This then could be the redemption – or the final nail in the coffin – for the much-maligned Kepa between the sticks.
Southampton began the campaign with two defeats to Palace and Spurs, but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side showed last season they’re not ones to linger on a loss.
As such, they’ve stormed back with two impressive victories over Burnley and West Brom, so will see this one as a free hit.
In Danny Ings they have one of the most lethal strikers in the English game at the moment, with his overhead kick for England against Wales showcasing his fearless attitude.

And will Saints have anything to fear at an empty Stamford Bridge? No chance.

    5

They won here WITH fans last season after all and are unbeaten on their last two trips to West London.
Four of the last five meetings between the sides on this ground have featured two goals or less, but this is no ordinary season.
Goals are flying in all over the place and there have been SIXTEEN in Chelsea’s four matches so far.
With Saints on the march and Kepa most likely back between the sticks, both teams to score is our favourite bet of the entire weekend at 4/6.
The 4-0 win over Palace looks emphatic on paper, but it wasn’t a fluid performance from Frank’s men.
It was goalless at half time and we like the look of that again at a massive 29/10, with the game to open up in the second half.
Timo Werner has made a slow start to his Chelsea career and plenty of Blues’ fans want him to be more involved through the middle of the pitch.
He’s far too good to keep that drought up and we reckon this is the game he ends it after scoring for Germany in midweek – back Werner to bag anytime at 11/10.
    SunSport’s best bets
Both teams to score: 4/6 (BET HERE)
Goalless at the break: 29/10 (BET HERE)
Timo Werner to finally net in Premier League: 11/10 (BET HERE)

    5

    5

Bolivia vs Argentina betting tips: Messi to score in away win, three or more goals – World Cup qualifier predictions

INTERNATIONAL football has taken centre stage over the last week – and it’s more than made up for the Premier League’s absence.
After England’s excellent comeback against Belgium and a stalemate between France and Portugal, it’s time to turn our attention across the Atlantic and the World Cup qualifier Bolivia vs Argentina.

    2

How Messi and Ronaldo compare in head-to-head battles
Bolivia v Argentina, TONIGHT 9pm (Premier Sports)

Argentina’s qualifying campaigns are never dull.
What’s the betting that Lionel Messi retires again by the end of this one?
The little maestro is back for another crack at the World Cup – and let’s face it, this could be his final chance.
After a torturous summer off the field, all eyes are on Messi as he returns home to try lead Argentina to the 2022 Finals.

He’ll be 35 by then and it’s likely to be last chance saloon if he wants to grab that illusive gong.
It’s more than three years since these nations last met, with Bolivia running out shock 2-0 winners in another World Cup qualifier.
Messi was in the stands watching that day, serving a four-match ban for yelling obscenities at a match official.
See, told you it was never dull.

But when you look further back, it’s clear who has history on their side.
La Albiceleste have won four of the last five meetings between the nations, with all of the victories coming without conceding a goal.
That’s an impressive record – and with a charged up Messi in the XI, we expect them to continue that on Tuesday.

    2

The 2022 World Cup could be Messi’s last chance to lift the trophyCredit: Getty – Contributor
Bolivia won their last game, a friendly against Haiti which saw them run out 3-1 victors.
    Sounds good, right?
Well before that, they’d lost EIGHT on the spin and haven’t won a competitive fixture since beating Chile 1-0 in September 2017.
Things look bleak then for the home side in the La Paz altitude.
And we reckon this will be a comfortable win for the away team in a game that really matters.
Back Argentina to win without conceding at a whopping XX.
As we’ve already seen, that’s been a winner in four out of the last five H2H’s.
And over 2.5 goals – which has happened on three of the last five clashes – is a Tuesday night money-maker.
Messi is the focal point for his country again but it’s been more than two years since his last hat-trick in an Argentina shirt.
He scored from the penalty spot in the 1-0 win over Ecuador on Friday night which got the Argentinians qualification campaign off to a winning start.
At a hefty price of 15/2, three goals from the little man is something well worth putting a quid on as the Barca superstar looks to show the world he’s still the force he was.
