Brits could bag FOUR day Bank Holiday weekend in August if England wins Euro 2020 as petition passes 350,000 signatures

BRITS could net a four-day bank holiday in August if England wins the European Championship tomorrow evening. Friday, August 27 is reportedly the most likely option because it would already coincides with the last summer bank holiday on the following Monday.

A petition calling for a bank holiday if England wins the Euros on Sunday has passed a whopping 357,000 signatures in barely 36 hours.
The man behind the call, Lee Jones, organised the petition at the end of this week, arguing it was “beneficial and sensible” to give the country the day off.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have added their names — and Boris Johnson refused to rule out a day off for millions of hungover workers.
The Sun previously revealed August is being considered for an extra day off as excitement for a potential win builds.
A day off in July is unlikely because the Queen would need to call at an eleventh-hour meeting of the Privy Council from Windsor Castle in order to approve the plans.
Instead, the Telegraph reports two sources saying Cabinet ministers and Government sources suggested a preferred option was Friday, August 27 with the summer bank holiday on the following Monday.
About eight million lionhearts have booked the day off to recover from monster hangovers after Sunday night’s do-or-die decider against Italy.

Fan fever led to around one in four of the nation’s 32m workers scheduling annual leave on Monday — double the number on normal Mondays in July.
And plenty of bosses will be lenient with their staff, while some schools say kids can come in late on Monday without punishment.
HR experts and unions yesterday urged bosses to let staff take Monday off to avoid clashes with workers who will phone in sick if denied leave.

Firm boasts of giving staff Monday after Euro 2020 final off – before workers emailed to tell them they won’t get it

A COMPANY boasted that it would give its staff a day off after the Euro 2020 final – before workers were emailed and told they wouldn’t be getting it. LookFantastic, which sells beauty, skincare, and haircare products, promised to give its employees a day off after England’s game if their social media post reached a certain number of likes.
The beauty website promised to give its employees a day off if their social media post reached a certain number of likes
Many people called out the brand
The company, owned by The Hut Group, said that the “fate of Team Fantastic is in your hands” as the amount of “likes” would determine what time work begins on Monday morning.
And if the post gained 7,000 likes, the firm said that the employees would be given a whole day off after the Euro 2020 final.
The Instagram post read: “IT’S COMING HOME. In honour of that, we’ve decided to give you the power on what time our teams start work on Monday…
“You need to act quick though – we’ll take the count at 5pm!”
But in an internal email seen by The Sun Online, employees were told that the “stunt” was just a “great engagement opportunity.”
Workers were told that the social media target and the promise of a day off after England’s final was “not official comms.”
Despite the post on Instagram reaching over 30,000 likes – surpassing the top target – workers were told that they were “lucky to have been given the 12pm start.”
The company was not able to specify who sent out the email – but insisted that employees would still be able to take Monday off.
Social media users were quick to call out the brand
LookFantastic posted the deal on their social media pages
In an internal email, staff were told the orders were not ‘official’
Reacting to the posts, one former employee said: “It’s just embarrassing really, it’s also just poor form to put something out there like that.
“Your staff are being treated one way, but then internally you’re sending an email to say the complete opposite.
“I think everyone is disgusted really. That’s what they think is okay to put out there, then they’re going to go back on internally, just for promotion of the brand.
“It’s a continuous vicious circle, and it’s things like this that echo that.”
And multiple people took to social media, claiming that the post was a “publicity stunt.”
One person wrote on Twitter: “Imagine having a culture so poor that you tweet this and then email your internal staff not to get their hopes up because it’s just a publicity stunt.”
And another user said: “You’re not even giving your staff the day off and have said it’s just a gimmick!”
A third wrote on Instagram: “This is fake, hard working employees have just got an email saying that this isn’t ‘official.’
    FOUL PLAY
“How unfair and two-faced. All for a few likes!”
Another person wrote in the comments: “Terrible to post this and then email them to say it’s not happening.”
It’s believed that following external pressure, staff were called into an emergency meeting where previous guidance was overruled and they were told they would in fact be getting Monday off.
The LookFantastic account then confirmed that “we’re giving all teams Monday off.”
The firm told The Sun Online that the initial email, telling employees that the social media post wasn’t “official,” was not sent by senior management.
A spokesperson from The Hut Group said: “We are incredibly proud of what this England team has achieved and, in so doing, they have already made history.
“We will be cheering them all the way in the final and we are delighted that all of THG’s employees will be able to enjoy watching the game in full knowledge that they can either enjoy the day off on Monday or take a day off in lieu, recognising our national team’s success.”

Sunday night’s historic final will see England battle Italy for the Euro title – with many workers expected to be worse for wear the next morning if the Three Lions bring home a victory.
Southgate’s lads bagged a place in the final after smashing Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday night.
It is the first final England has reached in 55 years.
The nail-biting final will be played at Wembley – with thousands of fans expected to flood the capital’s streets ahead of the title-race game.

Excited fans cheered as the newlywed couple kissed and hugged in Shoreditch
With Covid restrictions in place, the pair from London had just 38 friends and family at their ceremony in Islington Town Hall.
But by that evening, they were showered in congratulations by hundreds of Three Lions supporters.
When they booked their wedding day – on their eight-year anniversary – they had no idea their big day would clash with England’s victorious semi-final match.
Jay said: “After the ceremony, we had a restaurant booked out for all our friends and family at 6pm
“But there was a pub across the road so we were keeping track on the match by listening to the cheers and checking our phones.”
With the win secured, the blushing bride and groom took to the streets – still in their tuxedo and stunning white gown.
Artist Rengin, who runs a small business with her new husband, said: “When we went to our hotel in Shoreditch we checked in around midnight and we dropped off our bags and decided to go straight out to outside Boxpark where there was a really nice atmosphere.
“It was really nice because obviously I was in my gown and everyone was congratulating us.

“There were so many people and when they saw us they just ambushed us in a nice way. It really topped off our night.
“It was for sure a night to remember and it felt like England were bringing it home just for us.”
Video shows fans, who spilt out onto the street, surrounding the pair after the squad made it to the country’s first major tournament final in 55 years.
Crowds gathered around them demanding a speech, and when Jay calmed the crowd he simply let out a roar saying “It’s coming home!”
Despite the fact that the couple are no strangers to attention, as together they run a YouTube account with 80,000 subscribers, they were still shocked by the reaction from the crowd.
Rengin said: “There were obviously so many fans that were out and had been drinking and celebrating but we were not expecting that that amount of people would approach us but it was a really nice experience.”

And Jay added: “What wasn’t on video was, we went down the road and a completely different massive group started cheering for us again and they lifted me up and carried me and were throwing me up in the air.
“It was a bit insane having that many eyes on us.
“It was just an amazing feeling to have everyone smiling and congratulating us. Really positive radiating vibes.”
On Wednesday night, the nation backed the boys for two hours during the electric semi-final in packed pubs, bars, front rooms and in Wembley itself.
England fans joined the players in singing the iconic Sweet Caroline as the team celebrated their monumental win after a nail-biting finish in extra time.
After a tense 90 minutes finished 1-1, Three Lions fans were forced to endure the familiar pain of extra time in a semi-final.
In the first few minutes, England continued to drive forward – but could not find the back of the net.

But in the 12th minute, Raheem Sterling went crashing to the ground – winning England a PENALTY.
Harry Kane’s shot was saved by Kasper Schmeichel – but the Spurs ace smashed the ball into the net on the rebound – putting England into the lead.
When the final whistle finally blew on a historic win – scenes of jubilation erupted across the country.

The heavyweight champ, beaten by Lennox Lewis in 2003, wore his country’s yellow and blue team kit as he said: “Today all Ukrainians, even those who are not very keen on football, are closely following the contest against Gareth Southgate and his men.
“But in all honesty, the game will be the toughest and most challenging for our national team.

Former British Army hero Gavin Kuhl, 43, reckons Harry Kane and co will run away 2-0 victors in the anticipated Rome clash.
And he travelled 1,429 miles to be there – just so he could experience the buzz of the big game.
Gav, originally from Cornwall but living in Oslo, Norway, for the last ten years, said: “We’re not allowed to watch the game in Italy so this is the next best thing.
“I thought, ‘why not?’ The beer here is good and the Ukrainian women are beautiful.”
Gav, who served in the Princess of Wales regiment, roared: “All the Ukrainians are saying England have a better squad but they are fiercer and a more dedicated team.
“I think they’re in for a big surprise!”

He showed his power by pressing our flag-flying reporter over his head.
The roaring Ukranian beast is backing Andriy Shevchenko’s men to show their own might in Rome tomorrow night.
But Sun man Ben Leo bid for his own victory over Ukraine by tackling 21-stone Novikov in a brute test of power.

And in what is hoped will be the only Ukranian victory over England in the next 24 hours, Novikov proved he was the real deal with an extremely close-fought win.
Elsewhere, locals in Kiev today admitted Ukraine must channel the spirit of footie legend Valeriy Lobanovskyi if they have a chance of taming the Three Lions.

Motorists honked their horns and gave the thumbs-up in excitement for today’s big game reached fever-pitch.
It came as Ukranian pubs and restaurants announced they were offering free booze to their 40million countrymen every time England concede tomorrow.

But locals in Kiev last night feared: “I think we will end up very parched!”
Taxi driver Alexi Dravachenko told The Sun: “When Russia were playing their first match against Belgium, lots of restaurants and bars here offered free drinks for every goal they conceded.“We are doing the same against England but I have a feeling everyone is going to be left very thirsty.”

Benik Afobe signs for Millwall as ex-Arsenal starlet makes 15TH transfer of career after Stoke exit

BENIK AFOBE will spend next season with Millwall in what will be the 15th move of his career. The Lions announced that the striker is joining them on loan from his parent club Stoke City, after spending last season on with Turkish side Trabzonspor.

He becomes Gary Rowett’s fourth signing of the summer as the Lions look to bolster their attack for the upcoming EFL Championship campaign.
It’s the second spell the 28-year-old’s had at The Den being on loan for a season in 2013.
He has been out on loan for most of his career since joining Arsenal in 2010.
The ex-England U-21 star was shipped out to several clubs including Reading and Wolves.
Wolves initially signed Afobe on a permanent deal in 2015, then subsequently sold him to Bournemouth for £10m.
In a series of haphazard events, Afobe returned to Wolves the following season in a £10m deal, only to be sold to Stoke City for £12m just 11 days later.
Afobe, who scored five goals in 28 games in the Turkish Super Lig last season wasn’t amused with Wolves’ indecisiveness.
He grumbled: ““I could become a pub quiz question for that.”

And he then went on to complain about how the Molineux side had messed him about.
But he hardly got the time to shine with Stoke either.
During Afobe’s two years at the Bet365 Stadium, he only played three times and could only muster one goal.
