Inside Sir Alex Ferguson’s £3.5m home he shared with his ‘rock’ wife – as it’s still up for sale months after her death

SIR Alex Ferguson’s £3.5million home is still up for sale months after the death of his wife Cathy. The footie legend put his five-bedroom, 7,000 square foot property in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on the market after Lady Cathy Ferguson passed away in October aged 84.

But three months later the home, which comes complete with a stylish open plan kitchen and games room, is still up for sale.
Photos of the property also reveal a dazzling hallway chandelier, en-suite bathrooms and perfectly manicured lawns.
The former Manchester United gaffer likely let off steam in his charming game room – decorated with art work, oak bookcases and a snooker table.
The property also has a unique “Ferguson clan” tartan carpet adorned on the staircase.
    MORE ON SIR ALEX
Sir Alex decided to sell the property following the death of his wife, the Mirror reported.
He previously had said his wife, who he met in 1964, was a “bedrock” in his life.
Fergie’s time living at the luxurious home wasn’t without its share of controversy.
In 2020, Sir Alex lost a planning battle after he objected strongly to next door’s application to demolish a two-storey house and build a three-storey mansion.

Fergie’s lawyers sent a five-page opposition letter to planners.
He claimed his privacy would be affected by removal of trees which would also impact the character of the area.

He said the removal of trees was “likely to have a significant impact on the character of the area and the existing privacy standards afforded”.
    60 YEARS OF MARRIAGE
Cathy first met Sir Alex, 81, in 1964 when he was just 23 years old and they married shortly after in 1966.
In his autobiography, Sir Alex wrote: “I had the good fortune to meet a wonderful girl who has been my rock for almost 50 years.”
The pair have three sons together – Mark, born in 1968, and twin boys football manager Darren and Jason, born in 1972 – and 12 grandchildren.
Commenting on their home life, Alex once said: “Cathy is fantastic with the kids.
“It’s a military operation with her. If any of them misbehave, they’re in the doghouse.”
Cathy stood by Sir Alex throughout his playing career and journey to management.
There were claims that Ferguson suffered discrimination at Rangers between 1967 to 1969 due to his wife’s Catholicism.
However he made it clear in his autobiography that the club knew of her religion.
She was by Sir Alex’s side as he rose to become one of the world’s best managers, starting at St Mirren in the 1970s, then to Aberdeen in the 1980s, where he won the Cup Winners’ Cup, and then to his legendary reign as manager of Manchester united from 1986 to 2013.
When Sir Alex initially wanted to retire in 2002, Cathy famously convinced him to remain in charge of the Red Devils.
“One, your health is good,” Sir Alex claimed Cathy said.
“Two, I’m not having you in the house. And three, you’re too young anyway.”
But she was unable persuade her husband to recommit to Old Trafford in 2011, before he finally retired in 2013.
“I won’t be managing here any more than three years at the very, very most. Without question. I can assure you of that,” Ferguson said at the time.
“You have to think about time for yourself. I think my wife deserves a bit of my time, too. The older you get, the more you feel guilty about it.
“My wife, Cathy, was the one who talked me out of retiring last time but she wouldn’t do that now.”
Ferguson went on to retire two years later saying his wife needed his support after her sister died.
During his tenure, he won 38 major trophies, including 13 league titles and the Champions League twice.

But planners decided to allow the scheme to ahead.
It comes as Sir Alex’s world-record £633,000 jumps horse could miss Cheltenham Festival.

He was part of a syndicate that splashed the eye-watering sum of cash on Caldwell Potter last month.
A Grade 1-winning novice hurdler for former owners Caldwell Construction, the six-year-old is now on his way to Paul Nicholls.

Walker was dumped earlier this week after his wife Annie Kilner was sent a Boxing Day message revealing a “second love child” with Lauryn.
The model is understood to have bluntly written: “I don’t have two baby daddies — I have one.”
Kyle, 33, was then dumped by his wife after admitting he was the father.

She wore a luminous orange bikini and dressed her young family in matching Burberry designer outfits.
Lauryn and her two kids flew first class on January 13 as they escaped the drama surrounding Kyle.
It comes after Lauryn revealed to the Sun on Sunday the Man City and England right back had gaslit her in a “toxic” relationship – saying he had lived a double life.
And model Lauryn told how she took matters into her own hands after months of begging the footballing ace to come clean to his wife.

Love rat Walker had been visiting his son and daughter that he shared with Lauryn – while long-suffering wife Annie had no idea.
And she revealed the toll it has taken on her in an emotional Instagram post.
She said: “I am typing this in tears and breaking down in front of my children.
“I’ve addressed everything that’s been said this week and apologised to Annie.
“I’ve gone away with my children as this week has been so difficult to cope with.”
Lauryn had opened up about the affair in recent days – revealing she had wanted to start 2024 with a clean slate.
She said she had wanted Kyle to tell Annie about the relationship – and said in her social media post that she had dealt with the situation “the best way I can”.
She added: “My daughter is only six months old and my hormones are still raging so I have dealt with this in the best way I can and now I need to be left alone.
“I’m not trying to claim to be the victim in this situation but I’m hugely struggling with my mental health now, I’m at breaking point and I can’t be the best possible mum to my babies when I feel this low.
“I know people love gossip but this is pushing me to the edge.”
In an exclusive interview with The Sun on Sunday, Lauryn said that after so many wrongs, she knew she had to do the right thing and reveal the truth to Annie so they could all “live their lives like adults”.
Fighting back tears, Lauryn said: “I kept saying to Kyle, ‘You need to tell her.
“You need to tell Annie that you are our daughter’s father and you are having a relationship with your children.
“We need to start 2024 out in an open way. If everyone knows where they stand they can make their own adult choices in life.
“I didn’t want to cause any more heartache for Annie or be a b***h but I had to tell her because Kyle was too weak to do it.
“There were hearings coming up surrounding our daughter, there was paperwork flying around and legal meetings had taken place and Annie needed to know the truth before something went public.
“Kyle was happy hiding the truth because he was having two families and was scared about what would happen when Annie knew but I kept saying to him, ‘Our daughter can’t be a secret, she is a human’.
“I didn’t want them to split up or cause harm but it had to be out in the open for all of our sakes.
“When I told Annie, she was cool and calm.”
Walker has apologised to Annie — who has sons, Roman, Riaan and Reign, with the player — after she announced she was “taking time away” from him.
He wrote on Instagram: “Annie is an amazing woman and I can only apologise for the upset I’ve caused her.”
He has moved into a flat near the family’s home in Prestbury, Cheshire.
She had previously been humiliated after Kyle was unmasked as the father of Lauryn’s son Kairo, born in April 2020.
They conceived the youngster during their short relationship when Kyle was temporarily split from Annie – who finally dumped him this month.
In November 2021, Kyle and Annie – who have three sons together – got married, before announcing their separation.
In March 2023, Lauryn revealed that she was expecting her second child – and kept tight-lipped about her daughter’s paternity, only revealing he “is a footballer”.
Annie and Walker met as teenagers in their home city of Sheffield.
But their troubles began after he made a £50million move from Tottenham to Manchester City in 2017.
In 2019 it emerged he had romped with Ex On The Beach star Laura Brown in his Bentley.
Model Annie kicked him out but gave him another chance.
He was moving his stuff back in when he had a brief fling with Lauryn and she fell pregnant. Kyle moved out of the family home and began renting a luxury £8,000-a-month apartment in nearby Hale, Cheshire.
He pleaded with Annie to take him back but was then exposed for breaking Covid  rules by hosting a £2,200 orgy with two hookers.

Football legend Harry Redknapp calls on pensioners to apply for cash boost

FOOTBALL legend Harry Redknapp has teamed up with the Department for Work and Pensions in a major push to help pensioners secure a cash boost. The goal is to encourage low-income seniors to apply for Pension Credit before the December 10 deadline for a chance to net an extra £300, adding to the average yearly support of £3,900.
Harry Redknapp teams up with DWP to urge pensioners to apply for Pension Credit ahead of deadline day on December 10Credit: DWP
Speaking from his car window, Redknapp described Pension Credit as a “brilliant signing” and called on pensioners and their loved ones to check out the online calculator to see what they could get.
The former Tottenham and West Ham boss became famous for hanging out of his car window to give interviews during his managerial career, particularly on transfer deadline day.
He said: “It’s always an exciting time of the season – I would just say to anyone, check in with your mum, dad, nan, or grandad.  This could be a brilliant signing.”

Pensions minister Paul Maynard said: “We want every pensioner to receive all they help they can and with time ticking down to deadline day and the window drawing to a close, now’s the perfect time to check out our Pension Credit calculator and make sure you or your loved ones aren’t missing out on this vital support. In many cases, it’s an open goal to more money in your pocket.”
Currently, 1.4 million pensioners are reaping the benefits of Pension Credit, but there are sill significant numbers on the sidelines, unaware of what they are missing.
The DWP estimates there are 850,000 more pensioners eligible for the benefit who aren’t claiming it.
Applying by December 10, 2023 could secure them the extra cost-of-living payment, with the possibility of backdating for up to three months, provided they were eligible during that time.
As well as this cash boost, pensioners are set to receive an 8.5 percent increase to their state pension after the Chancellor  confirmed the Government would “honour its commitment” to the triple lock.
Who is eligible for pension credit?
Anyone over the state pension age living in England, Scotland or Wales is eligible for pension credit.
The state pension age is currently 66 for both men and women.
To qualify, you’ll need to have a weekly income of less than £201.05 for single people or £306.85 for couples.
Your income is worked out taking into account various elements including:

    Your state pension
Any other pensions you have saved, for instance, workplace or private pension savings
Most social security benefits, for example, carer’s allowance
Any savings or investments worth over £10,000
    Earnings from a job

    The calculation does not include:

    Attendance allowance
    Christmas bonus
    Disability living allowance
    Personal independence payment
    Housing benefit
    Council tax reduction

If your income is too high to get pension credit, you may still get some savings pension credit, so it’s worth checking.
It used to be the case that couples, where one person was over state pension age, could claim, but new rules now mean that both people in a couple must be over retirement age to apply.
This means if you’re single and move in with a partner who is younger than the state pension age, you will stop being eligible.
But if you’re already receiving pension credit under the old system it won’t stop unless your circumstances change.
    Most read in The Sun
How much can you get in pension credit?
There are two parts to the pension credit and pensioners can be eligible for one or both.

Guarantee credit – tops up your weekly income to a guaranteed minimum level. This is £201.05 a week if you’re single and £306.85 a week for married couples.
Savings credit – provides extra money if you’ve saved money towards retirement. You can get an extra £15.94 a week for a single person or £17.84 a week for a married couple.

You may also get additional pension credit if you are disabled, have caring responsibilities or have to pay certain housing costs such as mortgage interest payments.
    How do I apply
You can apply for pension credit four months before you reach state pension age.
Applications for pension credit can be made on the government website or by ringing the pension credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.
    You will need:

    National Insurance number
Information about any income, savings and investments you have
Information about your income, savings and investments on the date you want to backdate your application to (usually 3 months ago or the date you reached state pension age)

Your partner will also need to provide their information if you have one.
    How will I be paid?
Your benefits will usually be paid into a bank account around every four weeks.
You will be asked to provide your bank account details when you claim though concessions are sometimes made for people who don’t have access to a bank account.
Meanwhile, savers with old pensions could save thousands of pounds in retirement by combining all their pots, new data shows.
Plus, how losing your job can actually get you an extra £29,300 in your retirement fund.
You can also join our new Sun Money Facebook group to share stories and tips and engage with the consumer team and other group members. More

Lionel Messi scores incredible late winner in stunning Inter Miami debut

LIONEL Messi began his American adventure with a Hollywood ending by scoring a stunning last-gasp winner. The Argentine superstar came off the bench for new team Inter Miami to send the fans in Fort Lauderdale into blast-off as he stole a Leagues Cup win over Mexicans Cruz Azul with the last kick of the game.

Brought down from behind 25 yards out by Carlos Salcedo, it was the perfect set-up for a moment of brilliance.
And Messi, as so often, did not disappoint, arcing his left-footer over the wall and beyond the grasping, flailing fingers of keeper Andres Gudino.
Even Messi’s smile betrayed his awareness of the impact he had made in his new adopted home, with Inter part-owner David Beckham and his wife Victoria among the many shaking their heads.
As Messi hugged old pal Sergio Busquets, before joining his new team-mates on a parade of honour, there were still gasps of wonder echoing around the DRV PNK Stadium.
    Read more on Messi
But then again, we have all been left open-mouthed by Messi on so many occasions, it is probably right that a new generation of fans get the chance to share that emotion.
The celebrations of the supporters were not as joyful as those of the Argentine fans in Doha seven months ago yet will feel equally memorable.
They had been calling for him with chants of “Messi, Messi, Messi” just 40 seconds into the game and finally got their way after 53  minutes.
As he appeared on the touchline, pretty in pink, there was a wave of noise, a roar of almost disbelief.
    Most read in Football
For many of the fans, it would still seem inconceivable.
But yes, that was Messi, Lionel Messi, THE Lionel Messi, replacing Miami-born Argentina youth midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi, getting a handshake from the REFEREE as he entered the fray.
His first touch was trademark, leaving his marker for dead and laying back to back one-twos to advance 30 yards in the blink of an eye.
Messi was accompanied on to the pitch by his former Barcelona team-mate Busquets – and Inter arguably need the Spaniard more than the Argentine.
Indeed, quite what Messi and Busquets would have made of the first 40 minutes or so would be interesting to know.
Cruz Azul are winless and pointless and stand bottom of the Liga MX standings – with just one scored – after three games so far.
But they should have put the game to bed inside the first 20, only poor finishing, the heroics of Miami keeper Drake Callender and the woodwork keeping the match alive.
It was far too obvious why Miami had not won in 11 games since May 13, shambolic defensively and carrying all the punch of an alcohol-free cocktail.
Yet, from nowhere, they went in front just before the break, with Robert Taylor – a Finnish international but with an English dad and who had youth spells at Nottingham Forest and Lincoln – cutting in from the left to find the net off the inside of the far post.
They didn’t deserve it. But it wasn’t about that.
It was only about one man.
After all, Miami Royalty – in the form of Lebron James, Serena Williams and Kim Kardashian – would not have been in attendance to pay homage to anybody. The new King of Florida is a different story.
Cruz Azul seemed transfixed for a spell, determined to treat him as so special they did not want to get close, letting Messi wander wherever he wanted to go as he dropped into pockets of space.
When Mexico winger Uriel Antuna rifled the equaliser through the arms of the keeper, Messi puffed out his cheeks, knowing he was under even more expectations.
Demanding the ball, he almost played in ex-Spurs and Newcastle full-back DeAndre Yedlin, received from Busquets only for his shot to be deflected softly into the keeper’s chest and then sent striker Josef Martinez through on goal only for him to go too wide.
Messi was smashed to the ground as he attempted to get on the end of Busquets’ return ball, getting groggily to his feet as the referee turned his back on the pleas for a penalty.
He kept on making the runs, recreating that Camp Nou link-up with Busquets once more but crowded out, flagged – correctly – before setting up a tap-in for Martinez, who then himself went too early as the crowd thought the moment had come.

A FOOTBALLER who groomed a teenage girl on Snapchat before raping and threatening to blackmail her has been jailed.Barton Rovers player Kieran Hamilton, now 21, added the then 14-year-old victim on Snapchat in December 2018 before convincing her to send him explicit pictures.

Hamilton, who was 17 at the time, used these images as leverage over the victim and forced her to meet up with him.
The victim, who felt suicidal, told police that she felt she had to do what Hamilton wanted so he would not share the photos of her.
Hamilton, of Chesford Road, Luton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
After a trial in April he was found guilty of raping the girl in February 2019 and cleared of raping her in January.
Barton Rovers terminated Hamilton’s registration when they learned of his conviction.
He scored a goal in a 1-1 draw at Walthamstow the day after his conviction.
In an impact statement read out in court, the victim shared how the incident has left her feeling scared and anxious, and the impact the assault had had on her future.
She said: “Right after it happened, I was scared of being alone, I’d cry if I was on my own, and I couldn’t sleep alone.

“I felt anxious all the time, nauseous and I stopped eating, and I started getting suicidal thoughts.
“I lost a lot of my friends, in school I would disassociate myself and I would not pay attention to my lessons.
“I would blame myself a lot for what happened, because I feel like I could’ve stopped it.”
Judge Alan Blake, who sentenced Hamilton to five years in prison, said to him: “You displayed callous behaviour.
“This was controlling and coercive behaviour to try and control two young teens. The fact you didn’t use physical force does not make it consensual – you knew she wasn’t giving genuine consent.
“There was a significant level of harm experienced. Your messages portray manipulation and exploitation leaving the complainant feeling trapped.
“Your attitude and behaviour make you a risk to young women.”
Detective Constable Hayley Carroll from Bedfordshire Police’s cyber hub said: “Hamilton’s despicable and predatory behaviour saw him use explicit images as a means of controlling his victim for his own sexual gratification.

‘Upset’ Alan Shearer breaks silence on Gary Lineker tweet row after pulling out of MoTD as pair reunite on BBC

AN “upset” Alan Shearer broke his silence on Gary Lineker’s tweet row after pulling out of Match of The Day.The teammate and co-host was back with Lineker, 62, last night on the BBC to bring viewers live coverage of the FA Cup quarter-final between Manchester City and Burnley.

Shearer told how ‘upset’ he was about not being on last week’s show
The pundit opened the show saying how “it’s great to be here” after he was slammed for a tweet last week before being suspended.
And friend Shearer today expressed how “upset” he was to have missed out on the show after he stood by Lineker alongside Ian Wright.
He said: “I want to say how upset we were that all the audiences missed out on last weekend.
“It was a really difficult situation for all concerned.

“For no fault of their own some great people in TV and radio were put in an impossible situation.
“It’s good to get back to some sort of normality and talk about football.”
Lineker responded: “I echo those sentiments.”
The BBC’s highest-paid presenter, on £1.35million a year was blasted for his criticism of Suella Braverman’s migrant boats plan.
    Most read in Football
He hit out at the Illegal Migration Bill, which bans people who arrive on small boats from settling in Britain, on Twitter.
Lineker wrote: “This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the ’30s, and I’m out of order?”
The bill will see migrants detained and removed to their home country, or a safe third state within 28 days.
Tory MPs blasted the tweet as “foul, ill-conceived and disgraceful”, while Downing Street said his language was “not acceptable and disappointing to see”.
And fans piled in on the star, with some calling for Lineker to step down.
Energy secretary Grant Shapps earlier wrote on Twitter: “As a Jewish cabinet minister I need no lessons about 1930s Germany from Gary Lineker.
“Like Gary, I am hosting refugees in my own home, but unlike Gary, I do not believe it is either right or moral to tolerate criminal gangs trafficking vulnerable people across the channel.”
Home secretary Suella Braverman branded the TV presenter’s comments “irresponsible” and immigration minister Robert Jenrick said he was “out of step with the British public”.
But the BBC later confirmed Lineker WILL return to the channel in an embarrassing climbdown 72 hours later.
Director General Tim Davie apologised for the “difficult period” for staff, presenters and audiences after his embarrassing climbdown.
Lineker’s failure to say sorry himself also attracted criticism.
He today marked his return to BBC by tweeting a picture of him and teammates Shearer and Micah Richards.
The smiling pic of the trio comes minutes after Lineker posted a selfie with the caption: “Ah the joys of being allowed to stick to football,” slyly digging at the BBC.
Fans blasted the star after he failed to apologise, with one person saying: “Hypocrite. Please quit.”
Another added: “Will definitely not be watching.”
Someone else wrote: “Well stick to football then and leave the politics to the politicians.”
Another said: “You don’t just stick to football and that’s the problem.”
“Time for a change I feel. Bring in some new faces. Panel have had their day unfortunately in my eyes,” someone else said.
Fans also said the BBC’s embarrassing U-turn 72 hours after taking Lineker off air may spell trouble for the cooperation.

Mason Greenwood’s potential new club revealed as Champions League side ‘make inquiries’ for star striker

A CHAMPIONS League team has been “making inquiries” about potentially signing Mason Greenwood.Greenwood, 21, hasn’t played for his current club Manchester United since his arrest in January 2022.

The striker had attempted rape charges against him dropped earlier this month but his team is carrying out its own investigation.
He will remain suspended until the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season, according to reports.
All charges against the footballer, including attempted rape, actual bodily harm and coercive or controlling behaviour, were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service earlier this month.
It came after 12 witnesses, including the woman at the centre of the allegations, refused to co-operate.

And now it’s been revealed as a Turkish team which joined the Champions League last year have shown interest in signing the striker.
Istanbul’s Fenerbahce United have been “making inquiries” about the star, who has previously said he would like to play abroad.
Greenwood, who earns around £100,000 a week and is contracted until 2025, is still unable to play for United or train while the Red Devils carry out an internal probe.
This is said to involve interviews to get his version of events and checks on his physical and mental health.
    Most read in The Sun
Manager Erik Ten Hag hopes this process will be complete before the summer but it cannot be confirmed, it is understood.
Prior to his arrest, Greenwood was valued at around £50million and regarded as one of European football’s hottest young talents.
But United’s women’s players reportedly don’t want him to return to the club.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against him last week, which included attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It confirmed the charges had been dropped due to “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.
Following the decision, the United forward said: “I am relieved this matter is now over. I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.”
Attention has now turned to what the future might hold for the star after he was suspended by the club since the allegations first emerged.

United said in a statement: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.
“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
Until the side completes its investigation, Greenwood will not be returning to their Carrington training ground or feature in any upcoming fixtures.
There is no indication how long the investigation will take or what sort of outcome it may lead to.

The side’s manager Erik ten Hag declined to comment during his press conference on Friday, only saying: “I can’t add nothing, I refer to the statement of the club.”
Greenwood’s current contract runs until the summer of 2025 and he last appeared for the club in January 2022.
The speculation is though that he will look to leave Old Trafford and try to rebuild his career overseas.
Should he make that move, it is thought he has four options open to him – going to a club in mainland Europe, joining a side in the MLS, moving to the Middle East or possibly joining a side in the Chinese Super League.
If he opts for a Chinese club, he would have to take a significant cut to his currently salary of £75,000 a week, as salaries in China are capped at £50,000 a week.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo recently moved to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, which made him the highest-earning footballer, netting him a reported annual salary of £173million.
However, according to Salary Sport, the second highest earner at the club, Nordin Armabat, earns a reported £54,000 a week.
In the MLS there are only four players who earn more than Greenwood’s current salary.
Lorenzo Insigne, is the league’s top earner on £200,000 a week, according to MLSPlayers.org.
Former Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri is on £115,000 a week while ex-United striker Javier ‘Chichario’ Hernandez takes home £95,000 a week.
Gonzalo Higuain is said to be on £80,000 a week.
However, it is thought that MLS clubs may be unwilling to part with such a high percentage of their salary cap in order to sign him on, due to Greenwood’s current situation.
It’s thought striker Christian Benteke’s salary of £63,000 a week may be a more realistic indication of his potential earnings.
That level of salary indication is also likely should Greenwood chose to move to a mainland European club where wages in the continent’s top leagues are currently lagging behind those in the Premier League.
