Michael Schumacher thought I was trying to kill him, David Coulthard says in bombshell doc 10 years since ski tragedy

MICHAEL Schumacher thought ex-racing legend David Coulthard tried to kill him in a past race, says the former McLaren driver. In the new documentary Being Michael Schumacher, Coulthard speaks about the infamous race clash with the Ferrari driver during the Belgian Grand Prix in 1998.

But back in 1998, Coulthard had a bitter falling out with Schumacher after their on-track collision thwarted Schumacher from winning the race.
According to him, the German racer refused to accept that the car crash was unintentional – and believed it was rather a conspiracy to kill him.
Following the collision, Schumacher was furious and burst into the McLaren garage to confront Coulthard, accusing him of ruining his race.
Coulthard reveals in the documentary: “Michael thought it was some sort of conspiracy to kill him and try and help my teammate Mika.

“But it was simply an accident. It was just one of those things.”
The Belgium Grand Prix had taken place under extremely wet conditions, described then as almost monsoon-like.
The slippery track was so dangerous to race on that the first lap saw a massive crash involving thirteen drivers – and the race had to be stopped for over an hour.
After the restart, Michael Schumacher – who was driving for Ferrari – had overtaken Damien Hill.

Here he was nearly 40 seconds ahead when he approached Coulthard to lap him.
But Coulthard did not immediately let Schumacher pass, which led to the furious German shaking his fist at him in rage.
He eventually attempted to let Schumacher through by reducing his speed but staying on the racing line.
But, Schumacher, blinded by the spray in the poor visibility, whizzed on and crashed into the back of the Coulthard’s McLaren.
In a dramatic smash, the right front wheel of Schumacher’s Ferrari was torn off, as was the rear wing of Coulthard’s McLaren.
The latest documentary – which draws heavily on past footage – shows a bitter young Michael Schumacher in the pit lane filled with rage.
He told the television cameras: “David is a sensible driver, so I don’t understand at all why he acted like this.”
The factual film gobsmacked Coulthard speaking to the cameras, saying: “I can’t understand him, he has just accused me again of wanting to kill him.
“He has to take that back, it can’t be true.
“I hope he has some regret over his comments.”
The short film reveals the people who once funded Schumacher said this notorious feud was Schumacher’s fault.
Norbert Haug, former head of Mercedes Benz motorsport says: If I’m being really kind it was 50-50 and if I’m being realistic it was 95-5 done by Michael Schumacher, there was no reason at all to be travelling at that speed.”
Other parts of the documentary include how a viewer in Germany had written to the Cologne-based state prosecution office to “check whether Mr Schumacher’s action was punishable”,
It included the charge of “attempted murder, inflicting grievous bodily harm, coercion, and driving offences”.
For Coulthard, Schumacher was all about pushing the limits constantly, which made him an amazing driver.
But it also meant there was a darker side to him than many realised.
He says in the documentary: “Schumacher could be very ruthless, he could be cold, he could be distant.
“I think that’s probably the level you need to be at to be that successful.
“My understanding of where the limit was perhaps more in line with the rest of the drivers.”
Another clip from the documentary shows F1 presenter Florian König revealing the one thing he tells every curious fan asking about Michael Schumacher’s health.
Speaking to German producers ARD, König said: “Whenever someone speaks to me, at the airport or elsewhere, the question often comes up: ‘Do you know how Michael is doing? Do you know what’s going on now?’
“I always say the same thing: I don’t ask the family at all.”
The presenter, 56, explained why he also doesn’t seek answers from the Schumacher family.
“I absolutely respect the fact that they only gave very sparse information, and I think that’s right,” he said.
König, one of RTL’s Formula One faces for many years, added: “I notice from these questions that people are still interested and that they still share in his fate.”
The documentary, to be aired on December 28, will explore Schumacher’s early years including his rise to prominence, from a go-karting background to one of the best drivers in Formula One history.
It will mark the 10-year anniversary of his horrific skiing accident, which occurred in the French Alps on December 29, 2013.
The new series will follow a 2021 documentary produced by Netflix in which Schumacher’s wife Corinna remained tight-lipped about her husband’s condition, saying only that he was “different” post-crash.

But a new five-part documentary “Being Michael Schumacher” may shed some light on what happened all those years ago and how the former Ferrari star is now faring.
Speaking to German producers ARD, König said: “Whenever someone speaks to me, at the airport or elsewhere, the question often comes up: ‘Do you know how Michael is doing? Do you know what’s going on now?’
“I always say the same thing: I don’t ask the family at all.”

The new series will follow a 2021 documentary produced by Netflix in which Schumacher’s wife Corinna remained tight-lipped about her husband’s condition, saying only that he was “different” post-crash.
Corinna is known to have protected her husband’s privacy to such an extent that only their immediate family and the closest of their friends know any details about how he is doing.
Recently, in an interview with German magazine Bunte, Schumacher’s brother Ralf shared he now had little to do with the F1 star’s immediate family, including his wife and kids.
Ralf said: “When I see his children Gina-Maria and Mick, my heart smiles.
“If someone in the family is looking for my advice, I’m there. They go their own way.”
He made clear he still loved his brother’s family and said of his accident: “Unfortunately, sometimes life isn’t fair.
    “We have to accept it.”
Meanwhile, Schumacher’s pal, former F1 driver Timo Glock, claimed to have kept in contact with the seven-time world champion.
He told LuckyBlock: “I’ve also known other members of his family for a very long time, but I try not to impose on their privacy.
“I respect their right to be private, and I don’t discuss Michael’s condition with them.”
Glock, who told of the parties he and Schumacher used to throw, said they had “such good fun” together.
”I spent a lot of time off-track with Michael, and it didn’t matter what we did.
”Michael kept himself to himself on the track, and he didn’t open up too much. It was, however, the opposite away from the track.
“He was very open, super friendly, and a really nice guy. People thought he wasn’t!”

Meanwhile, British F1 star Norris was recovering from a 180mph crash at Sunday’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.
One of Luisinha’s 376,000 Instagram followers responded to her latest pictures by posting: “What I wouldn’t give to look like this.”
And as the influencer, 23, reclined against a rock on a sandy beach, another fan wrote: “Your smile is one of the most beautiful.”
Luisinha and Norris, 24, split earlier this year after dating for several months.

The McLaren driver publicly revealed their relationship in January with an Instagram post from Dubai captioned “My sunshine”.
But in September on the same site he confirmed they had “mutually decided to end our romantic relationship”.
Luisinha has since posted glamorous shots from around the world, including snaps from a London bar – defying the chillier weather in just a little black dress.
And after seeing the photos from Brazil, her South American followers urged her to keep coming back to the Portuguese-speaking country.

However, up in North America, ex-partner Norris was taken to hospital after smashing into the barriers on the third lap of the Vegas GP.
He eventually stopped on the run-off at turn 12 after slowing to 70mph and crashing into the barriers at high-speed.
Lando assured McLaren on the team radio he was fine.
And after checks in hospital, he was released without serious injury.
But Norris’s worrying time on the circuit was in total contrast to the peaceful snaps from Luisinha – whose life, judging from her social media posts, seems completely back on track following their split.

Unearthed footage shows F1 row that TV missed as Verstappen and Ocon both see their laps ruined

UNEARTHED footage has shown what TV missed about Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon’s row as both drivers saw their laps ruined. As Ocon passed the world champion just before the final corner, the Red Bull driver thought he had lost his chance for a pole position during the Q1 at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Winning the world title is not enough for Verstappen, who wants to finish the year with more victories.
Despite the Red Bull driver clinching his 14th win of the season on the weekend, a video has revealed how it could have been a different story.
In Q1 Ocon overtook Verstappen’s moments before the run-in which ruined both drivers’ hot laps.
The clash pushed the Dutch driver to the third spot before the race, trailing behind Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, while Ocon was handed the 16th starting spot.

The champ was heard shouting “What a stupid idiot!” over the radio about Ocon who was originally criticised for nearly causing a crash.
But a new clip which emerged on social media has sparked debate as it has shown a few seconds before the turn-one clash.
Some fans have continued to back Verstappen whereas others have come to Ocon’s defense.
One fan said: “Let’s hope Esteban Ocon never gets in a championship-winning car, they will be dark times indeed.”

Another added: “What was Ocon thinking during overtaking Max on the last corner??? Lmao.”
However a third added: “He braked so late for turn 1 to ruin Ocon’s lap, he couldn’t stay on track. Verstappen should be penalised. End of.”
Verstappen swiftly made it into Q2 at this point but Ocon was fighting for a top spot position which he missed out on.
The Alpine driver later was asked about the incident and called it “a joke” and said he had no choice after running into traffic earlier in the session.
He told RaceFans: “The difference between me and him is that I have to do that lap because I had traffic in that first lap.
“So I lost some time on that first lap. And if I don’t do the second one, I’m out.
“He has plenty of pace so he can afford not to do his second lap.”
“So that was it. The difference between me and Max is that Max is third, I’m 17th.”
Ocon’s low starting point left him with an uphill battle and only managed to finish the race in Nevada in 16th place. More

That makes it pricier than the previous most expensive modern-day F1 car – Michael Schumacher’s 2003 Ferrari F2003.
However it is still not as costly as the most expensive F1 car of all time.
The 1954 Mercedes W196R, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, was sold by Bonhams in 2013 for £19.6million.
Hamilton, 38, did not even win the F1 championship in the car – finishing fourth as Sebastian Vettel claimed the glory.

But he did race in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04 13 times and won the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in the car.
That meant he became the first Brit to win in a Mercedes since Sterling Moss’s victory at the 1955 British Grand Prix.
    The 234mph F1 machine – Hamilton’s main car for the season – boasts a V8 engine and a 0-60mph of just 3.6 seconds.
It is the only one ever sold outside of Mercedes.

“I really wasn’t expecting the track to be so great but the more and more laps you did I just really loved racing it.

F1 fans shocked as ‘national treasure’ Martin Brundle is brutally snubbed by NBA legend live on Sky Sports

WHEN it comes to Formula One grid walks in the USA, you can put good money on there being an interesting interaction between Martin Brundle and a celebrity. And that was the case once again ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen claimed victory at the circuit after saying it was the “National League” of race tracks.
But ahead of the race Sky Sports F1 reporter Brundle, 64, was doing his best to get some interviews for the broadcaster.
A host of celebs were at the show event, including the likes of David Beckham, Brad Pitt, Rihanna and Veronika Rajek.
However, when it came to NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Brundle was brutally snubbed on the grid.

As Brundle arrived next to one of the Red Bull cars the former F1 driver tried to hail the 7ft 1in basketball icon.
However, O’Neal – known as Shaq – did not play ball with the request despite a member of the Red Bull crew saying yes to giving an interview.
As Shaq, 51, tried to walk away from Brundle, the reporter remarked: “I don’t think he’s up for it, I’ve wasted my long microphone cable.”
Shaq then moved to the front of the car to take a photo with more of the Red Bull crew, including Team Principal Christian Horner.

As he then came back towards Brundle, Shaq once again dismissed any chance of an extended interview.
Instead, he said into the microphone: “Lewis Hamilton baby.”
Brundle finally quipped: “That’ll cover it.”
Fans online praised Brundle for his attempt despite the awkward exchange and slammed Shaq for his unwillingness to talk.
One fan said: “Martin Brundle is a national treasure.”
A second said: “Shouldn’t be down on the grid unless you’re willing to talk.”
A third said: “Not Shaq shouting this after taking pics with the whole RB team including Horner.”
Another said: “Martin rocks. Poor form Shaq.”
While a fifth added: “Another gem 🤣.”
This season alone has seen Brundle cross paths with Cara Delevingne, Machine Gun Kelly and Anthony Joshua in awkward exchanges.
This season’s Miami GP struck a particularly hilarious tone, with interviews including Beckham, DJ Khaled and a blunder with Patrick Mahomes.
Previous years have seen Brundle interview Pep Guardiola, Megan Thee Stallion and Pitt with not much success.
The F1 season will conclude at next weekend’s Abu Dhabi GP.
