      Nikita Mazepin SACKED by Haas as Russian F1 driver banned from racing under neutral flag after Ukraine war

      NIKITA MAZEPIN has been sacked by his Formula 1 team Haas.It was announced by the FIA on the first week of March that the Russian driver would be able to race under a neutral flag this season following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

      He has also been banned from driving the British Grand Prix after Motorsport UK blocked all Russian and Belarussian racers from competing.
      In addition to that, the F1 star has had more than £100 million of assets seized by authorities including his beautiful Sardinia villa.
      Now his team have confirmed that his deal with them has now been ripped up.
      And they have also confirmed that it has ended its partnership with Russian potash company Uralkali.
      A Haas statement read: “Haas F1 team has elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali, and the driver partnership of Nikita Mazepin.
      “As with the rest of the F1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”
      Nikita Mazepin’s father, billionaire oligarch Dmitry Mazepin, has close ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

      This week at an extraordinary meeting led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the World Motor Sport Council agreed that competitors holding Russian and Belarussian racing licences could still race under an “FIA flag”.
      But Motorsport UK has gone one step further by stopping them, including Mazepin, from competing.
      A Motorsport UK statement read: “No Russian/Belarusian licenced teams are approved to enter motorsport competitions in the UK.
      “No Russian/Belarusian licenced competitors and officials are approved to participate in UK motorsport events.
      “No Russian/Belarusian national symbols, colours, flags (on uniform, equipment and car) to be displayed at Motorsport UK permitted events.
      “The Motorsport UK decision was made in full consultation with the UK Government and national sports governing bodies to ensure that there is a unilateral response to the crisis.”
      The 2022 F1 season is currently underway with the racers heading to Italy next for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

      Lewis Hamilton jets into London after F1 star is swarmed by fans on visit to Malaysia following Australian GP

      LEWIS HAMILTON has returned to London after a visit to the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.The seven-time Formula 1 world champion stopped off in Kuala Lumpur on his way back from Melbourne, having competed in the Australian Grand Prix last weekend.

      On Monday, Italian financial police seized their luxury villa in the Portisco area of Olbia on the north-east coast of Sardinia.
      A spokesperson for the Italian Financial Police told MailOnline: “Following verifications on subjects that are part of the current European Union sanctions list, an impounding order was served on Dmitry Mazepin his and his son Nikita Mazepin, a driver with the Formula 1 team Haas until March 5, on a residential complex worth 105 million Euro and traceable to both through an overseas company.”
      The expensive property was in the name of the 23-year-old former F1 driver and his father.

      Mazepin’s father Dmitry has been described on a European Union sanctions list as “a member of the closest circle of Putin.”
      He also attended a meeting with the Russian President on February 24, the day Russia’s invasion began.
      Dmitry was also a significant stakeholder in the former Haas sponsor Uralkali, a fertiliser producer.
      But son Niklas was dropped by Haas last month before the 2022 season was due to get underway.
      The Russian has blamed his Haas sacking on “cancel culture against his country.”
      Speaking to the BBC, Mazepin moaned: “I don’t agree with being in the sanctions.

      Social media has reacted with fury to the apparent gesture, with some calling for the FIA to ban Severiukhin from racing for life.
      Severiukhin is not the only Russian sportsperson to cause outrage in recent weeks.
      Following Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak wore a pro-war Z symbol while sharing a podium with a Ukrainian athlete.
      Putin’s supporters have been seen wearing clothes and badges with the letter ‘Z’ on – referencing their support for the invasion of Ukraine.
      The symbol – which represents the Russian phrase for victory – has been visible on Putin’s tanks and killing machines in Ukraine. More

      It was a messy contest throughout, with 16 yellow flags and plenty of contact between the drivers.
      The pair clashed again after the chequered flag, but this time it was Gibbs who decided to contract Mayer face-to-face.
      He stormed out of his No54 Toyota and pushed Mayer hard in the chest, with the drivers exchanging words and shoves.
      Gibbs, 19, was clearly furious with the response and started throwing punches as officials and pit crew tried to intervene.
      They finally fell to the ground and continued to try getting in shots, only to be pulled apart in front of a stunned crowd.
      ‘HE JUST SNAPPED’
      A NASCAR official was also reportedly hurt in the brawl and taken by stretcher to a hospital. 
      Mayer – who had taken his helmet off before the punches started to fly – sustained bruising to his face and a black eye.
      He revealed that the pair spoke later after the fight to cool the air.
      Mayer said: “I just put the bumper to him. He came back over and he was upset and decided to throw a couple punches.
      “I was just trying to get his attention and he took it the wrong way. And he just snapped.”

      Gibbs gave his side of the story: “I tried to talk to him, and he got all in my face. At that point, we’ve got to start fighting.
      “We got put in a bad position there. The only thing I’m mad about.
      “He wasn’t going to get past the No16 there and I just got hit in the left rear.
      “It’s just frustrating. I just got drove in the fence at the end.”
      It’s not the first time tempers have spilled over on the NASCAR track, with Harrison Burton and Noah Gragson trading blows in 2020.
      Joey Logano and rival Denny Hamlin also famously saw red after their round of eight race in the championship play-offs three years ago.
