RED BULL chief Helmut Marko has admitted that Formula One world champion Max Verstappen is a “time bomb” who could go off if they “don’t win again soon.”The Dutchman has endured a tough start to the 2022 season, failing to finish in two of the three races so far.

Despite Verstappen having a fast car to stage a title defence, reliability problems have seen him drop 46 behind drivers championship leader Charles Leclerc.
The faults cost the 24-year-old 36 points, despite winning the second race in Saudi Arabia.
And Red Bull chief Marko has admitted that the team needs to win again soon to avoid “time bomb” Verstappen going off.
He told Austria’s ORF: “With the set-up of the car, you sometimes lack the confidence to maintain his [Verstappen’s] extreme driving style.

Despite his previous outbursts, £40million-a-year Verstappen is “a lot calmer”, according to Marko.
Verstappen has been part of the Red Bull F1 programme since making his debut with the team’s sister outfit Toro Rosso in 2015.

Marko continued: “He is a lot calmer.
“After his retirement, he returned to the pit box and we discussed things calmly.
“However, in this case, we knew we could run into that problem, because we also had to deal with that in qualifying, so it didn’t come out of the blue in that regard.
“He is an emotional and passionate driver who will always give his opinion.
“But, in my view, he is a lot calmer than in the past.”
Verstappen will be hoping this weekend’s race in Imola can kick-start his season and get his title defence back on track.

And it was only an issue with Red Bull that enabled Hamilton to secure his only podium finish out of the first three races this season.
That has left the 37-year-old seven-time champ sitting fifth in the Drivers’ standings, 43 points off leader Charles Leclerc and nine behind Russell.
Hakkinen, who won the championship twice in the 1990s, has now revealed that he believes Hamilton could be looking for a way out of Mercedes in 2023 unless things improve.

SEBASTIAN VETTEL could end up QUITTING Aston Martin after his torrid start to the new Formula One season.That’s according to ex-driver Timo Glock, who believes his fellow German is already close to ‘losing his patience’.

Vettel, 34, missed the first two races of the campaign after coming down with Covid.
But his return to action at the Australian GP in Melbourne did not go according to plan.
The four-time world champion first crashed in FP3 to dent his qualifying hopes.
Vettel then skidded off the track during the race itself and did not finish.

Aston Martin’s woes also extended to teammate Lance Stroll, who crashed as well Down Under.
And Glock reckons unless the team behind Vettel’s car can sort things out quickly, the former Red Bull and Ferrari man could head for the exit.
Glock, who secured three F1 podiums for the likes of Jordan and Toyota, told Sky Germany: “I can imagine that Vettel will lose his patience at some point because he himself knows how long it takes to get out of such a low.
“Therefore, the question arises whether he still wants to do that to himself.
