The youngest of three children, he has a sister, Cara and older brother, Benjy.
He caught the racing bug when he started go karting at the age of seven alongside Benjy, who was involved in competitive karting.
But by 18, he moved to Milton Keynes to be closer to British Formula 3 Championship racing team, Hitech.
In early 2017, he joined Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport as a part of their junior driver programme.
A year later, Williams announced that Russell had signed a multi-year deal to drive for their team.

As soon as he was thrust into the spotlight, Russell’s love life was placed under the microscope.
He met stunning Seychelle de Vries, who was once linked to Max Verstappen, when he raced in Formula 2 in 2017.
They reportedly dated for three years, before calling it quits.
Now, Russell has been seen with stunning Carmen Montero Mundt.
Back in February, the pair were spotted on holiday in St Barts together kissing on a sunlounger and frolicking in the sea.
While in August, Russell was spotted enjoying a break in Santorini.

Call it fate, but Russell has always had a penchant for Mercedes.
On top of his current swanky Mercedes AMG GT, he has always favoured the car manufacturer as his ride.
He’s been spotted with TWO AMG C 63 motors that cost in the region of £80,000.
Russell proudly displays his cars on social media to over two million followers.

HE’S A STUDENT OF THE SPORT
One of Russell’s many heroes is the late, great Niki Lauda.
In 2017, the up-and-comer got the opportunity to meet his hero in Baku after a race.
Lauda even took the student to a Black Eyed Peas concert, after meeting him at a hotel.
Russell became friends with the three-time F1 champ, and would often lean on him for advice.
During lockdown last year, Russell shared a picture of himself reading Lauda’s autobiography.
While he was stuck at home when the coronavirus pandemic was at its height, he made sure he continued to workout and stay in shape.
He also fitted an F1 simulator to polish up on his driving skills in his bedroom.

HEALTHY LIVING
Crucial to Russell’s is his diet plan.
Regularly, he shares snaps on social media of what he eats – and it’s never unhealthy.
From poke bowls to fresh salads, the athlete makes sure he’s putting the right food in his body.
Coupled with going to the gym, it’s what keeps Russell in peak condition and lean for a race car.
Aside from driving, and working out seven days a week, Russell also likes to play squash and get out on his mountain bike.
LOVES SPORT
Playing and competing in sport just isn’t enough for Russell.
When he has some downtime, he’s happy to sit in front of the TV and watch a live event.
During the Euros, he shared an image online cheering on England. The football fan is a devoted Wolves supporter, like his dad.
While last year, he encouraged his followers to comment who they felt would win the Indy 500, which he was tuned into.

Davy Morgan dead at 52: Northern Irish rider becomes third casualty as Isle of Man TT after crash

A statement issued by race organisers confirmed his death later that evening “with a heavy heart”.
A statement read: “It is with a heavy heart that the Isle of Man TT Races can confirm that Davy Morgan, 52, from Saintfield, Northern Ireland, was killed in an incident on the third and final lap of the first Supersport Race of the 2022 Isle of Man TT Races.
“The Isle of Man TT Races pass on their deepest sympathy to Davy’s partner Trudy, his family, loved ones, and friends.”
Morgan is the third competitor to lose his life at this year’s TT.

Welsh rider Mark Purslow was killed in qualifying last week and French sidecar passenger Olivier Lavorel died after an incident on Saturday.
Morgan becomes the 263rd rider to die on the dangerous Mountain Course, which has hosted the race since on the island just off the north-west coast since 1911.
This year marks the return of the TT after a two-year absence brought on by Covid-19.
Morgan was an extremely experienced competitor who had been a regular fixture in racing paddocks over three decades.

He first raced at the Isle of Man TT in 2002 and was making his 80th start at the event.
Rider Dave Moffitt was also hospitalised last Tuesday following a crash.

More Isle of Man TT deaths spark calls for dangerous race to be axed but riders know the risks – the decision is theirs

AROUND this time of year, there are calls from people who have never attended any form of motorsport event to put a stop to the Isle of Man TT race.It usually follows a tragedy and sadly this year Welsh rider Mark Purslow and Frenchman Olivier Lavorel became the 261st and 262nd riders to lose their lives on the Mountain Course, which has hosted the race since 1911.

It is an incredible statistic in itself but also surpassed when I tell you that since 1937, the only time there were no fatalities at the TT race, was in 1982.
Of course, by modern standards, a sporting event with that level of fatalities would – and should – not be allowed to continue, but this is an exception.
As a motorcyclist myself, I accept the risks whenever I use my bike but I ride it because I enjoy it.
Now, I am not putting myself in the same category of those racing in the Isle of Man this week, far from it, but the basic principle is the same.

I went to see the race in 2019 and was blown away by the speed. I was also slightly unnerved by the lack of safety measures.
I say lack because of what I was used to in F1 where there are run off areas, gravel traps and crash-absorbing Techpro barriers.
At the TT, there are stone walls, post boxes and kerbs to negotiate – but I quickly learned that was the point.
It is not as if the risks aren’t unknown to the riders either.

Back when I visited, I spoke to famed TT specialist John McGuinness and I put it to him that it was ‘a bit dangerous’ and his response has lived with me since.
He said: “You don’t just jump on a Superbike and fly down Bray Hill without knowing exactly what you are getting yourself into.
“James Hunt died as a 40-year-old of a heart attack, Barry Sheene died at 52 years old of cancer.
“If somebody dealt me a pack of cards right now and said ‘You can have 48 great years or 60 s*** ones’, I’d take 48 great years.
“I’ve lost a few mates around here but there’s no gun to anybody’s head to do it.”
He is right too, for when I was reading about Purslow’s tragic accident, I recalled McGuinness’s words.
As the Welshman’s family grieved for the 29-year-old, there was something telling in what his family wrote on the racer’s Facebook page.
They said: “He loved to ride, and he knew the risks but he loved racing since such a young age… we are going to try and get some solace in the fact he always told us if he was going to go, this would be the way he would want to, and that he would be smiling.
“He will be telling us all to stop crying, have a laugh and a drink for him, and celebrate his achievements.

It was a poignant reminder that while the Isle of Man TT remains dangerous, as does all motorsport, it should still be allowed to continue.
Because if you attended the event, spoke to every rider, mechanic and fan, they’d all tell you the same thing as McGuinness told me: “People always try to stop things they don’t understand.
“So before you make your mind up, come to the Isle of Man, watch the racing, talk to the riders and teams, and then decide.”
Azerbaijan GP
I am excited to be heading back to Baku this week for the Azerbaijan F1 GP – mainly for some normality.
After chaotic and sold-out races in Miami, Barcelona and Monaco it will be great to see some half-empty grandstands again in a destination that people have never heard of.
Giovinazzi’s switch
Former F1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi must be feeling drained after such a miserable time since making the switch to Formula E.
He’s currently last in the championship after some dreadful performances – but he exceeded himself at the Jakarta ePrix.
First he almost took out his Dragon Penske team-mate Sergio Sette Camara with an over-ambitious overtake that sent him into a spin.
He then was forced to retire from the race five laps from the end for running out of battery life.
Too soon for Espargaro
Aleix Espargaro was another racer to come up short at the weekend in embarrassing circumstances.
The MotoGP rider, who was running in second place in his home race in Barcelona, pulled over and started celebrating – only it was not until he was overtaken by other riders he realised he’d gone a lap too soon.
Eventually, after realising his mistake, he was classified in fifth place in the Catalan Grand Prix.
Espargaro was distraught afterwards – especially seeing race winner Fabio Quartararo extend his championship lead over him to 22 points.

Heartstopping moment football rolls down hill as Isle of Man TT riders zoom past in narrow miss while at 130mph

MOTORSPORT fans were left with their hearts in their mouths as a FOOTBALL nearly caused a catastrophic crash at the Isle of Man TT Superbike race.Motorcycle legend John McGuiness came within a matter of inches of colliding with the ball as it rolled directly across the track.

Footage posted to Twitter shows the ball rolling along the tarmac at the super-fast Bray Hill section of the track on the opening lap of Saturday’s race.
Fans at the side of the road are seen frantically waving to the approaching McGuiness to avoid the obstacle.
He then comes hurtling past at 130mph, and only narrowly misses the runaway football.
Spectators continue to wave in warning as the next rider zooms past at high-speed.

The W13’s porpoising issues continued last time out in Monaco, with Hamilton showing his frustration during practice by saying over the radio: “It is so bouncy out here, mate. I am f***ing losing my mind.”
Despite his gripes, Hamilton accepts that engineers are working as hard as they can to fix the problem, saying: “I know that work is going on tirelessly in the factory to make progress with the car.
“And I have no doubt we will get it right sooner or later.”

Mercedes have won the last EIGHT constructors’ titles in a row, but appear destined to give up their crown this year to either Ferrari or Red Bull.

A MONUMENTAL error cost MotoGP star Aleix Espargaro a place on the podium during Sunday’s Catalan GP.The Aprilia racing driver was battling Fabio Quartararo for the top spot when he suddenly began to slow down with only a lap to go.

The Spaniard proceeded to wave to the crowd – oblivious to the fact that the race was still going on.
And by the time he realised that he still had one lap remaining, he had slipped out of the podium places and down to fifth.
Espargaro’s pit team looked on in disbelief as they watched him accidentally throw away a crucial podium place.
The Spaniard was then seen in tears as he came to terms with the costly error, but his team quickly rallied in support.

The action-packed Catalan GP was filled with drama from the start.
Takaaki Nakagami was lucky to escape serious injury when his helmet completely shattered during a collision with Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Rins.
The LCR Honda racer lost control before falling off his bike at the first corner.
He slid into the rear wheel of Bagnaia and violently hit his head before flying into the path of Rins, taking him out in the process.
