Mercedes chief Toto Wolff, 51, remains relaxed about Hamilton putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Wolff said: “As for contract discussions, we have a full year to go.
“We are so aligned – in the last ten years our relationship has grown.”
Hamilton, 38, is taking some time away from the track, going on holidays and talks are set to begin when he returns.

Wolff continued: “It’s just a matter of him physically being back in Europe, sticking our heads together, wrestling a bit, and then leaving the room with white smoke after a few hours.”
Last season proved a disaster for Hamilton as he suffered continuous issues with his car, such as bouncing along the straights.
Mercedes have confirmed they will launch the new W14 car on February 16.
The 2023 F1 campaign begins with pre-season testing on February 23.

The first race then takes place in Bahrain on March 5.
Hamilton is used to speaking out about a range of issues but the FIA will no longer allow drivers to use their F1 platform to make statements on political and social problems.
Anyone planning to do so will need permission in advance with Wolff set to hold a discussion with the governing body regarding the new rule.
He said: “Once he [Hamilton] is back, these things will certainly be discussed with a positive mindset.” More

The move seems targeted at Hamilton, who has become a global advocate for anti-racism and diversity and spoke out on a variety of issues before F1 races.
And Wolff wants clarification from race bosses before the new season starts in Bahrain on March 5.
He said: “We need to see how this really pans out. We understand that sport is not here to mix with politics but on the contrary and to unite.
“I have no doubt Mohammed and the FIA mean well and want to achieve the right things.

“It is just about aligning it with the drivers who have been more outspoken in the past.
“When Lewis has spoken with Mohammed in the past it has always ended up in a positive discussion, so when people sit around the table together I don’t think things will be as harsh as they are written down.”

The 43-year-old Brit was most recently Motorsport Strategy Director at Mercedes, a position he held for over four years.
However, he has disputed any suggestions he is turning Williams into any “mini-Mercedes” after George Russell also spent some time on loan at the team.
    “I wouldn’t consider it a mini-Mercedes,” said Vowles.
“Williams is an incredibly independent team in its own right that has formed its own history, its own heritage.”
Vowles added that Williams was “an entirely independent organisation”.
He said: “It doesn’t mean that Mercedes and ourselves won’t have collaboration in some form or another, it was collaborating before I joined.
“But I have to do what was best for Williams from now onwards.”

He then went on to win his first F1 world title in Brazil in 2008 – beating the home fans’ countryman Felipe Massa to the crown.
But he has still gone on to be embraced by the nation.

As reported by Reuters, he said: “I feel like now I’m one of you.”

He then went on to add: “I have so many amazing memories of Brazil. And particularly 2021 [when he won from 10th on the grid].

Now 37 years old, Muniz’s career is set to take a swift detour after he announced that he will be competing in NASCAR’s ARCA Menards Series championship this year.
He will be driving the No. 30 Ford Mustang for Rette Jones Racing, and in doing so, completing a lifelong dream.
In a statement, Muniz said: “It’s with the utmost excitement, optimism and gratitude that I’m joining Rette Jones Racing for the full ARCA Menards Series schedule this year.
“Ever since childhood, it’s been my dream to pursue racing in NASCAR, and it was important for me to partner with a team that aligned with my long-term objectives and vision, while providing every opportunity imaginable to grow mentally and physically as a full-time race car driver.
“I look forward to not only demonstrating my ability on the track and just how serious how I am in progressing in my racing career, but also showing my son and family what it is to chase your dreams and re-invent yourself.”
Muniz also added in a tweet: “Finally making my dream a reality, this one is for my son and showing him that you can always chase your dreams.”
This marks the culmination of an almost two-decade-long journey in racing, which started back in 2006 after Malcolm in the Middle came to an end.
According to NASCAR, he kicked off his new career in open-wheel single-seater racing, before competing in the Formula BMW USA Championships.

Then from 2007-09, Muniz called the Champ Car Atlantic Championship home.
Unfortunately, his racing career took a nasty turn for the worst when an accident at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course left him with a broken back and a left thumb that had essentially been “ripped off.”
This reportedly caused him to lose his potential IndyCar contract for 2010.
But this speedhump clearly didn’t stop him in the long run.
Rette Jones Racing’s Mark Rette said that they were “very excited to welcome Frankie Muniz to the Rette Jones Racing family for the full 2023 ARCA Menards Series schedule.
“Over the years, we’ve prided ourselves on working with new drivers who have quickly adapted to the diversity of the ARCA Menards Series and, without a doubt, we believe Frankie can do the same.
“It is not going to be easy, and there will be a learning curve. But with his passion, focus and commitment along with the capabilities of our team, we believe we are going to put him in a position to contend for multiple wins in 2023.”

Fellow team owner Terry Jones added: “Without a doubt, we believe in Frankie’s ability and commitment, and with Mark’s leadership, we believe that he will quickly adapt on track and contend for a championship in his rookie season.”
Muniz will take to the wheel of the No. 30 Ford Mustang for the first time on February 18 at the Daytona International Speedway.

Lewis Hamilton warned over Max Verstappen rivalry ahead of new F1 season amid claims world champ ‘can get better’

LEWIS HAMILTON has been warned that Max Verstappen can get even better than he was during his dominant 2022 World Championship win.Verstappen cruised to the title with four races to spare after victory in Japan last October.
F1 world champion Max Verstappen can get even better, says Red Bull’s chief engineerCredit: Splash
And Red Bull chief engineer Paul Monaghan said: “Max is technically extremely gifted.
“He did a lot of work as a youngster, often guided by his father [ex-F1 driver Jos], and you can see the legacy of that.
“He knows what he’s talking about within the car, and he knows what he wants.
“With his engineers, they know how to deliver a car that he finds nicely-balanced, easy to drive.

“Well, not necessarily easy to drive, but driveable. It looks after its tyres well enough that he can manage a situation.
“If you look at his record over the past seasons he’s been with us, it’s stunning.
“He wouldn’t achieve that if he wasn’t an exceptional driver.
“And can he improve? Yes, of course he can. He might not thank me for saying that.

“I think there are areas he can get a little bit better.
“He’ll dig into himself and think what could he do better for a season, and it’s up to us to give him a car to go and demonstrate those skills.”
Hamilton pushed Verstappen all the way in 2021, controversially losing out on the title after a last minute rule change following the withdrawal of the safety car.
As a result of his failure to follow strict safety car rules, Michael Masi was sacked as F1 race director ahead of the following season.
But that didn’t help Hamilton as the poor performance of his Mercedes saw him finish sixth in the Drivers Championship, failing to win a race for the first time in his career.
