But despite his dominance, the F1 ace sparked speculation earlier this year that he could walk from the sport when his current contract expires in 2028.

Verstappen made it clear that working with GT cars is an avenue he would like to explore.

“It would be nice to do it like Valentino Rossi, I like to see his races in GT, a category I have an interest in because we have our own car entered.
“He did everything he could in MotoGP, with a crazy career, and now he’s having fun.
“While still working hard and wanting to win again. I think I will look for something similar in the future.”

MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia ‘even stronger’ as he chases second win of the year following record-breaking season

MOTOGP champion Francesco Bagnaia is going in search of his second victory of the year in this weekend’s Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas. The Italian came from 91 points behind to pip Fabio Quartararo last season and looks “even stronger” this season according to former Superbike world champion Neil Hodgson.

Bagnaia won the MotoGP season-opener in Portugal and sits in second-place in the championship behind Marco Bezzecchi, who won in Argentina.
But BT Sport pundit Hodgson says now he has one championship under his belt, he will be confident about adding a second.
He said: “The hardest thing is to win your first. A lot of people said the hardest thing is to defend the championship but I totally disagree.
“The hardest thing is to get that first one over the line. And for him, it was against all the odds.

“He broke so many records coming from that far back. He was 91 points down at one point, it was bizarre. Nobody thought it was possible.
“He had the pressure of all of Ducati on his shoulders, the first Italian champion since Valentino Rossi, and he kept calm at that last round. He did what he had to do to win the title.
“Now, look at what he’s done preseason, he’s been incredible. He was clearly the fastest man and looks really prepared.
“I think he’s found the final piece of the jigsaw. Has he got the bottle to fight for a world title? And the answer is yes. Now coming into this season, he will only be stronger.”

The race also offers another opportunity to see the shorter sprint races, rather like F1 have tried, plus a good opportunity to gauge MotoGP’s popularity in the US.
Hodgson added: “The sprint race format creates a lot of drama because they are all-action.
“You can’t save your tyres, there will be no boring tactics, it will be all out in the sprint race.
“You’ll have to be aggressive. You’ll have to qualify well, so I think we’re in for a right treat!

‘This guy should be banned’ – Watch shocking moment MotoGP rider completely wipes out rival as fans fume he’s a ‘danger’

MOTO GP has seen another shocking collision on its opening weekend as six-times world champion Marc Marquez wiped out home hero Miguel Oliveira. The pair were among the frontrunners in the first feature race of the season in Portugal.

But both would end up out of the race within the opening laps after an ill-judged lunge by Marquez.
The Spaniard, 30, had taken a shock pole on his unfancied Honda bike yesterday.
But he dropped back to fourth after a dodgy start.
In a desperate attempt to make up positions, he flung himself down the inside his rivals as they approached one turn three.

But he hit second-placed Oliveira, who was competing in his home race.
The heart-stopping crash saw both riders wiped out with Oliveira, 28, immediately falling off his bike before tumbling across the track.
Both drivers reportedly picked up injuries from the clash.
Fans were left fuming with Marquez’s risky move.

But one had praise for Marquez’s conduct after the accident.
They said: “All class by MM. Immediately went to see if MO was okay. Didn’t even consider getting back on the bike. Cared about his fellow rider.”
It was just the latest shunt in an error-strewn weekend for the MotoGP grid with two drivers ruled out of Sunday’s race after earlier incidents.
Pol Espargaro suffered several serious injuries after he lost control of his KTM bike and was flung into the barriers.
While Enea Bastianini sustained a fracture to his right shoulder blade after a crash with Luca Marini during Saturday’s sprint race.
Both the sprint and the race were won by last year’s champion Francesco Bagnaia, as he looks to become the first man to retain his crown since Marquez in 2019. More
