Tommy Fury misses out on huge Jake Paul fight purse as it’s claimed ex-UFC star Tyron Woodley earned £6m for first bout

UFC legend Michael Bisping claimed Tyron Woodley earned £6million for his first fight with Jake Paul – in a massive blow to Tommy Fury. Paul beat Woodley over eight rounds in August, with Fury winning against the YouTuber’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor.

It set up the huge celebrity grudge match which was set for December 18 in Florida.
But Fury this week pulled out with a broken rib and chest infection, while Woodley signed as his replacement.
The ex-UFC champion had been campaigning for a rematch against Paul, and Bisping has a good reason why.
He said on his YouTube channel: “Tyron has been trying to get that rematch and understandably so.
“From what I hear, Tyron Woodley made around $8million for that fight against Jake Paul, so of course he wants to do it again.
“But still, they went with Tommy Fury. Tommy Fury, I thought was a good match-up for Jake Paul, because he’s a boxer, he’s a guy that’s starting off, he’s 7-0 as a boxer.
“Made sense for Jake Paul to be fighting somebody like that, plus with the Fury name, right he’s Tyson Fury’s half brother, so there’s that whole connection there, makes it interesting.”

In Paul’s first three fights, he beat YouTuber ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, also 37.
But his win over eight rounds against ex-UFC champion Woodley, 39, was his biggest to date.
Fury was set to be his first opponent with prior professional experience before the Brit withdrew.
Bisping urged the 2019 Love Island star to reveal proof of his broken rib, which he later did.
And the former UFC middleweight champ admitted with such a serious injury, it would be impossible to fight on.
From what I hear, Tyron Woodley made around $8million for that fight against Jake Paul, so of course he wants to do it again.Michael Bisping
Bisping, 42, said: “Sure, if you’ve got a broken rib there’s no way you’re going to fight.”
The American-based Englishman, now a commentator and analyst, was ringside to watch Paul’s points win over Woodley.
And he predicted a repeat result in the short-notice rematch.
Bisping said: “The thing is Tyron’s taking this fight on less than two weeks’ notice. Now, he has been training.
“But there’s a difference between training for a fight properly and absolutely killing yourself to what there is of just ticking over, keeping the engine running.
“So I fear in this fight Tyron Woodley, even with extra incentive, I don’t think we’re gonna see much different. I think Jake Paul is gonna be in better shape.”

Five fights for Jake Paul if YouTube star gets past Tyron Woodley in rematch including finally taking on Tommy Fury

JAKE PAUL will have to go over old ground after agreeing to rematch Tyron Woodley at late notice. The YouTube star beat ex-UFC champion Woodley over eight rounds in August and set up a mega-fight with Tommy Fury.

But with less than two weeks to go, Fury, 22, pulled out with a broken rib and chest infection.
Woodley, 39, was training on standby and ready to fill in for a rematch on December 18 in Florida.
A win for Paul increases his stock even more, and here SunSport runs down what could be in the immediate pipeline.
    Tommy Fury
Despite Paul’s unbeaten 4-0 record, he has been levelled with criticism for not facing an opponent with prior professional boxing experience.
And Fury, who is 7-0 and has a celebrity profile after his 2019 stint on Love Island, offered the perfect opportunity to answer those critics.
Even though Paul has hinted towards leaving Fury ‘in the dust’ the fight could be too lucrative and well matched to go to waste.

    Nate Diaz
With wins over ex-UFC stars in Ben Askren, 37, and Woodley, Paul has built up a good rivalry with Dana White’s MMA promotion.
Diaz, 36, has been among those to feud with Paul in recent months and only has one fight left on his UFC deal.
If he can fulfil the last remaining bout on his UFC contract, it would then pave the way for a boxing switch.

    Conor McGregor
McGregor, 33, has been at the top of Paul’s ‘hit-list’ for some time and even claimed to have a $50m offer for the Irishman last year.
The former UFC champion still has two fight left on his contract making a move into the ring difficult.
But in 2017, White did make an exception as McGregor fought and lost to Floyd Mayweather, meaning if the money is right, he could do the same again.

    Anderson Silva
The Brazilian, 46, was released from his UFC contract in 2020 and returned to the boxing ring, where he was already 1-1.
What followed was a win over former boxing champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 35, and fellow MMA legend Tito Ortiz, 46.
Silva then entered talks to fight Paul but nothing prevailed, meaning the matchup remains a possibility.

    Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather, 44, in June faced Paul’s older brother Logan, 26, in an extraordinary exhibition, which ended without a winner as it went the distance.
But beforehand, Paul stole the headlines – and Mayweather’s hat – after he nicked the American icon’s cap, sparking a mass brawl.
Mayweather has insisted he is done with boxing, but is never retired from making money, meaning a fight with the YouTuber cannot be ruled out.

But Khamzat, 27, didn’t want to accept an offer because of Tyson’s past, after being presented with the opportunity by manager Ali Abdelaziz..
However, he insists that he DOES respect Iron Mike.
He told The Hustle MMA podcast: “Ali said Mike Tyson also wants something, but I didn’t go.
“I didn’t have much desire to do that.
“As a fighter, an athlete, I really like him. But I don’t like what all happened with him – the violence, the pills, the marijuana, then Muslims, it’s strange.
“But I still respect him – both as a fighter and as a person.

But despite Woodley fulfilling his end of the public bargain, Paul opted to box Love Island star Tommy Fury next.
That enraged Woodley, who told MMA Junkie last weekend: “Jake Paul is a bitch.
“He didn’t want to fight, like, ‘You did it too late.’
“No, you just didn’t want to fight, and they gave you a way out, and you took it and ran.
“It’s like a little kid in a playground, ‘Na, na, na, na, na,’ when they know they didn’t really win.
“Most people that watched the fight felt like I won the fight.

“I really didn’t walk away a loser in the fight. My ceiling doesn’t look different right now.”
Paul – who will face Fury on December 18 – recently taunted Woodley about missing out on a rematch.
He told TMZ: “By the time he’d got the tattoo, we’d already moved on to fighting Tommy Fury and making that fight negotiation.
“I don’t think people really wanna see Tyron vs Jake Paul again.
“He had his chance. He had his chance.”
Woodley plans to compete in multiple combat promotions next yearCredit: GETTY
Woodley, 39, is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the UFC earlier this year.
And The Chosen One plans to compete in several ‘different’ promotions in 2022.
He said: “I’m the only free agent in combat sports. Nobody else can say they’re a free agent.
“I can fight here, I can fight there. I can fight anywhere.
“You’re going to see my fight multiple times, for different promotions – four different styles of fighting.

“I’m going to be the first one to do it, and then everybody else is going to follow behind like they always do.
“One of them is going to be MMA. I plan on fighting in MMA in July in a real special fight to me.
“It’s probably going to be in Las Vegas.”

Fury’s and Paul’s younger brothers – Tommy and Jake – are currently gearing up for a December dust-up in Florida.
And Fury is confident Tommy would do a number on the social media phenoms in the same night.

“I’m sure when he beats the one brother, the other one will want to fight him.
“And then he can fight him as well. So, double bubble, son.”

Jake, 24, has made his feud with Tommy a personal one with several comments about his long-term girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.
And Fury is itching to land a big right hand flush on the American’s jaw.
The 33-year-old said: “I know how good Tommy is. I’ve seen him knock people spark out in the gym every day. He’s a real banger.
“And when gets one shot on Logan Paul (Jake), he’ll be kissing the canvas. Goodnight Vienna. Bye, bye.
“I want a big, old, dirty knockout like Tommy keeps talking about.”
Tommy plans to spank The Problem Child in double-quick time, saying: “After our last fights on the same card, I rocked up with four people to his after-party.

“I saw him and what did he do? He didn’t [do anything].
“He sent a security man over to say: ‘Please leave’.
“When he gets in the ring with me, he will find his level. He’ll be out in the first round.”

It was expected to be the ex-Disney actor’s hardest fight since turning professional, but he silenced his critics in emphatic fashion.
Paul then outpointed former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley on a split decision in August.
And Askren, 37, has admitted he was surprised by Paul’s qualities during his appearance on Lex Freidman’s podcast.
He said: “So the thing I said when I went in to fight him [Jake Paul] is maybe he’s good or maybe he’s not. We really have no idea to this point, you know
“I knew that Tyron was a lot better in boxing than I was.
“And so I thought that there is a good likelihood that Tyron beats him up but there is a chance that Jake is kind of good at this.

“I think what played out is he’s kind of good at it.
“And if you saw the way I saw it, he was still impressive in his showing and he has obviously put a lot of time into it. So, he’s not bad, I’ll say that much.”
UFC welterweight Diaz hit out at Askren over his views, as he tweeted: “Coming from a retired wrestler who can’t fight or box.”
Paul then chimed in, as he compared Diaz’s 13 defeats inside the octagon to Askren’s two.
He remarked: “You have six times as many losses as Ben Askren. Let that sink in.”
Diaz then fired back: “He sucks Jake. You’d get smoked n a real fight tho (sic).
“You can’t really fight boxing matches with wrestlers only. Let that sink in.”
Paul is currently preparing for his dust-up against Tommy Fury in Florida next month.

And he has vowed to embarrass the Fury family as he looks to knock out TNT.
He said: “One month to go until December 18th and a complete embarrassment of the Fury family.
“Mark your calendars now to witness history in Tampa.”

‘He wasn’t a man of his word’ – Tyron Woodley rages with Jake Paul over tattoo as YouTuber fighting Tommy Fury instead

They bet the loser would have to get the winner’s name tattooed on them.
But in the ring afterwards, Paul agreed to rematch Woodley, so long as the bet was honoured.
It took Woodley a whole month to get ‘I love Jake Paul’ inked on his finger, which ultimately proved too little too late.
He has since hit out at the social media star as he posted a link to their face-to-face sit down which was recorded days before their fight.
Woodley, 39, tweeted: “Watched this for the 1st time! Every single word here happened.
“He got gassed & ran. He didnt want to run it back. He wasnt a man of his word.”

After beating Woodley, Paul turned his attention to Fury, 22, who beat his sparring partner Anthony Taylor, 32, on the undercard.
Recently the American talked down a rematch with Woodley, despite the tattoo reveal.
Paul, 24, told TMZ Sport: “By the time he’d got the tattoo, we’d already moved on to fighting Tommy Fury and making that fight negotiation.
“I don’t think people really wanna see Tyron vs Jake Paul again. He had his chance. He had his chance.”
