      MIKE TYSON could have been a champion in MMA ‘no question’ – as the boxing legend prepares to judge in the PFL’s ‘Challenger Series’. Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion of all time aged 20 when in 1986 he brutally knocked out Trevor Berbick.

      Tyson, 55, is one of the most celebrated boxers of all time but become a fan of MMA, striking a friendship with UFC boss Dana White and Professional Fighters League founder Donn Davis.
      And Davis said if MMA was as prominent during Iron Mike’s heyday, then no doubt he would have ruled in the cage as well as the ring.
      He told SunSport: “Mike would have been a champion at everything.
      “It’s just how they said Lebron James could have played in the NFL, no question Mike could have been a champion in MMA.”
      The PFL is MMA’s only league format, consisting of regular season and playoffs.
      Fighters in eight weight classes enter the two-fight regular season where they compete to advance to the play-offs.

      That consists of a two-round quarter-final and three-round semi-final in one night, where the winner advances to the championship finale.
      Up for grabs is a winner-takes-all $1million cash prize, which Tyson in 2019 awarded to women’s two-time champ Kayla Harrison, 31.
      The Hall of Fame heavyweight started as a friend of Davis before becoming part of the PFL family.

      This year, PFL has introduced a ‘Challenger Series’ which stretches over eight weeks and eight divisions, starting from February 18 and finishing on April 8.
      There will be four fights a night but only one of the winners will be awarded the PFL seasonal contract, giving them the chance to fight for the $1m contract.
      That is ultimately decided by a four-man guest panel, which includes Tyson himself.
      Davis said: “There will be a panel of judges, not just one guy waving his wand and deciding.
      “We’ll have MMA experts, including Vitor Belfort or Tyron Woodley, we will have celebrity judges, who are Hall of Fame-type boxers, like Mike Tyson.
      “We will also have champion athletes, like Ray Lewis and we’re also going to have interesting celebrities who love the sport, Keenan Thompson, Saturday Night Live, for example.
      “But most importantly, the fans will have a seat, the fourth vote is the fans.
      “So once the fights are decided, each night will have four fights and which of those four winners gets the contract will be decided by those panel of four judges, which includes the fans and celebrity judges.”

      And Problem Child Paul is willing to travel to enemy territory to throw hands with the MMA mogul.
      The 25-year-old said: “I want to fight [Conor] McGregor, I will fight him in a boxing ring in Ireland.
      “This is partially how the journey [in boxing] started.
      “I made up my mind that I was going to get a fight with McGregor and win it and that is what motivated me to jump into this boxing career.”
      Paul began trolling McGregor in late 2020 and continued his social media slights on The Notorious before and after seeing him suffer back-to-back defeats by Dustin Poirier.
      And he recently referenced the former two-division champion in his Dana White ‘Diss Track’, rapping: “McGregor I ain’t seen you win in five years, you rich little weirdo, ugly ass veneers.

      “And people were like, ‘This kids crazy, Conor will kill him.’ But now this fight could happen within the next 24 months one hundred per cent.

      Paul is currently taking a break from boxing following his sensational sixth-round KO victory over Tyron Woodley last December.
      McGregor, meanwhile, is still recovering from the horrific broken leg he suffered in his UFc 264 defeat by Poirier last July.

      McGregor is eyeing a UFC return this year but had fans fearing for the worst following a few bizarre social media posts after nights out in his Black Forge pub.
      The ex-UFC champion, 33, promised fans he will undergo ‘complete abstention’ from his whiskey and stout liquids ‘very soon’ to begin full-training.
      But Paul, 25, responded to reporters: “I don’t give a s*** about Conor.
      “I just want to fight him and smack him in the head – in that sense I hope that he can win some fights so that we can actually fight.
      “But the guy is a grown-ass man, he needs to figure out his life; it seems to be falling apart from what I can tell.
      “Obviously, everything’s through a lens, we don’t know what he’s going through actually.”

      Paul posted a $50million fight-offer video to McGregor in December 2020 but also called him an ‘Irish c***’ and insulted his wife Dee.
      When Taylor and Paul visited SunSport HQ on Monday – to help promote the undisputed lightweight queen’s defence against the Paul-promoted Puerto Rico icon Amanda Serrano – the rival teams were kept apart.
      And Taylor confirmed McGregor – who has attended a handful of her fights – has not been in touch to call in a favour while she is in range of the controversial superstar.
      She said: “Me and Amanda come from small countries that are very proud to punch above our weight in the ring.
      “I come proudly from a path that has been walked by Wayne McCulloch, Barry McGuigan, Steve Collins and Carl Frampton and she has legends like Miguel Cotto and Felix Trinidad.

      The former interim lightweight champion has flirted with the prospect of a fourth fight with The Notorious and admits he’d also be willing to face his rival inside the squared circle.
      When asked about the prospect of boxing McGregor during an impromptu Twitter Q&A, Poirier replied: “Book it.”
      MMA fans were quick to comment on Poirier’s willingness to box the former two-division champion, with one saying: “I’d rather see the 4th fight than a boxing bout.”
      Another said: “Nah bro, we need a quadrilogy in the cage!”

      Former featherweight rivals Poirier and McGregor locked horns with one another twice in 2021, with the former coming out victorious on both occasions.
      The Diamond knocked out McGregor in the second round of their Abu Dhabi rematch last January before registering a first-round TKO victory in their Las Vegas trilogy fight six months later.
      McGregor, 33, suffered a horrific broken leg in their Sin City series decider, which he’s still on the sidelines recovering from.
      The Irishman has been hard at work in the gym and in rehab over the last few months and is eyeing an April return to sparring.
      And UFC supremo Dana White reckons Mystic Mac could be set to make a summer return to the cage.
      When asked about McGregor competing this year, White told TMZ: “I think so, yeah.
      “He’s doing all the right things with his leg. I’m hoping he can come back this summer.”
      When pressed about Nate Diaz potentially welcoming McGregor back to action, he told ESPN:: “It could be [next].

      He told MMA Fighting: “Yes, definitely, I would love that fight. Interesting story, I think he was the first celebrity I ever saw.
      “Right when MMA was blowing up, my dad was a super big fan and we went to this local MMA event and they must have paid Anderson Silva to come because it was in Ohio so I don’t know why he would have been there.
      “But I actually asked for his autograph and we took a picture with him. I’m maybe like 12 years old but I think he was the first celebrity that I met.
      “So it would be fun to bring it back full circle and fight someone who was one of my first idols.”

      LEGENDARY UFC commentator Joe Rogan has expressed his desire to see MMA star Francis Ngannou face boxing champion Tyson Fury.The pair have been linked with a blockbuster bout, with the Gypsy King urging the Predator to meet him inside the squared circle for a huge payday.

      Fury had previously stated he would face the Cameroonian heavyweight champion in a boxing match, but with UFC gloves.
      And Rogan has agreed with Fury that Ngannou would earn serious cash, as he stated he wants to see the 35-year-old take home a ‘giant chunk of money’.
      Speaking on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he compared the potential dust-up to when Floyd Mayweather beat Conor McGregor in August 2017.
      Rogan said: “I want to see him box because I want to see him get a giant chunk of money – like, Conor McGregor-style, Floyd Mayweather chunk of money.
      “Because when Conor fought Floyd Mayweather, he made $100million [£74m]. I think that’s nice. I’d love to see that.
      “If (Ngannou) fought Tyson Fury, how much money would they be able to make?”

      Commenting on what Fury and Ngannou could pocket, Rogan remarked: “I don’t know. It’s off the pay-per-view.
      “It’s off what they could sell. Obviously, it would have to be very marketable. Tyson Fury is very marketable.
      “Francis Ngannou is very marketable, especially as a UFC heavyweight champion going up to fight in boxing.
      “It would be weird to see Tyson Fury like a legit five inches taller than Francis Ngannou.
      “Oh yeah, Tyson Fury is 6-(foot)-9. I think Francis is 6-(foot)-4 or 6-(foot)-5. I’m not sure.”
      Fury was recently urged by UFC middleweight Sean Strickland to ‘man the f*** up’ and face Ngannou in 4oz gloves.
      He told Helen Yee Sports: “At the end of the day, we’re MMA fighters. Not boxers – there’s a clear difference. I think Tyson Fury should man the f*** up, he should man up.

      UFC legend Nurmagomedov instead wants to welcome Paul over to his Eagle Fighting Championship promotion.
      He said on Nelk Boys’ podcast: “In boxing, he knows how to punch. He’s not bad in the boxing game. Anybody can box.
      “You can box, too, but you never can wrestle. This is completely different. If he wants, we can give him a chance.
      “We can sign him, and we can pay him, and we’ll see.”
      Paul, 25, most recently knocked out Tyron Woodley, 39, in their short-notice rematch, after Tommy Fury, 22, pulled out with a broken rib.
      Woodley took the fight only four months after losing on points, meaning Paul has KO’d every opponent he has shared the ring with.
