Just last year, Hamilton missed out on a record eighth title as Max Verstappen pipped him to the gong in Abu Dhabi.
Coincidentally, the father of Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet is Nelson, a former three-time world champion himself.
The Brazilian was known for making controversial and outlandish comments when he was a driver.
And he’s hit the headlines again for using a racial slur while talking about Hamilton.

Who is Nelson Piquet?
A three-time world champion, Piquet is one of the most decorated drivers in F1 history.
He won his first title in 1981 with Brabham, before winning another just two years later with the same team.
Piquet then moved to Williams for two years and won his third title in his second year with the British racing team.
The Brazilian announced his retirement fromn the sport in 1992 and since then has attemped to race in the Indy 500.

He’s also managed his son Nelson Piquet Jr, who was a test driver for Renault in 2007.
Piquet also founded his own racting team, Piquet Sports, in 2000,
The 69-year-old also has seven children, the third-eldest Kelly being Verstappen’s girlfriend.
What did Piquet say about Hamilton?
The Brazilian used a derogatory term in an interview that was given in November last year when speaking about the 2021 British GP.
Piquet, whose daughter Kelly is in a relationship with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, slammed Hamilton’s driving at Silverstone where he made contact with the Dutchman on an explosive first lap.
Verstappen was sent hurtling in the barriers and taken to hospital for checks while Hamilton went on to win his home race for an eighth time.
Piquet claims Hamilton was at fault and referred to him with the offensive term, which was initially missed by local Brazilian media.
F1 has now responded in a statement in support of Hamilton saying: “Discriminatory or racist language is unacceptable in any form and has no part in society.

Hamilton’s Mercedes team have also slammed Piquet, who won the world championship with Brabham in 1981 and 1983, and again with Williams in 1987.

F1 has also responded in a statement in support of Hamilton saying: “Discriminatory or racist language is unacceptable in any form and has no part in society.
“Lewis is an incredible ambassador for our sport and deserves respect. His tireless efforts to increase diversity and inclusion are a lesson to many and something we are committed to at F1.”
Hamilton’s Mercedes team have also slammed Piquet, who won the world championship with Brabham in 1981 and 1983, and again with Williams in 1987.

“Lewis has spearheaded our sport’s efforts to combat racism, and he is a true champion of diversity on and off track.

While F1 have been swift in their response, there is no indication yet what positive action will be taken.
Outraged fans have urged them to ban Piquet from attending any future F1 events, challenging the sport to stand up to their “We Race As One” motto.

THE BTCC season keeps on delivering as Yorkshireman Dan Lloyd enjoyed a fairytale weekend by winning two races at his home circuit Croft.

LEWIS HAMILTON has no chance of winning the British Grand Prix despite Mercedes making improvements to his car.That’s the opinion of Hamilton’s ex-Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg who reckons his former team’s performance is miles behind rivals Red Bull and Ferrari.

Mercedes have had a difficult start to the F1 season thus far.
Hamilton’s yet to win a race and languishes in sixth spot in the F1 rankings.
While his Mercedes compatriot George Russell fares slightly better in fourth.
However, the Mercedes duo have a mountain to climb if they’re to catch up with Red Bull pair Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez who occupy first and second place respectively, with Ferrari ace Charles Leclerc in third.

As well as playing with Roscoe, Hamilton grabbed an early dinner alongside a pal at Cecconi’s restaurant in West Hollywood.
Such was his enjoyment of the food, that he brought some more home in a doggy bag.
While Hamilton is one of the world’s most beloved athletes, Roscoe has built up quite a fanbase of his own.

With Mercedes feeling that they have gotten their porpoising issue under control, Hamilton may feel he can be in contention at Silverstone.

Russell and Hamilton sit fourth and sixth in the drivers standings, while Mercedes are more than 100 points adrift of Red Bull in the constructors championship.
But they are now seeing some of the benefits of not leading the pack as the teams are allocated time to test their cars.
Aerodynamic testing is currently capped by FIA regulations.
But as a result of Mercedes slipping down the grid, The Mirror have reported that they are no longer the most restricted team when it comes to this form of testing – with Red Bull and Ferrari leapfrogging them.

The next race on the 2022 calendar is the British Grand Prix – with the Silverstone weekend kicking off on July 1.
And Mercedes’ technical director Mike Elliott has confirmed the team will be bringing upgrades to the circuit.
He said: “We will be bringing new bits to Silverstone, we will be trying to push the car forward, trying to get some pace from the car we’ve got or from the package we’ve got as well as the new bits we are going to add to it.
“I think Silverstone will be a circuit that suits us a little bit better, like Barcelona did, but maybe it will be just a little bit difficult.
“Whatever happens we will push as hard as we can. Our drivers will push as hard as we can because we want to get back to winning.
“We want to win for the team, we definitely want to win and we want to win for you, the fans. So let’s see what happens.” More
