    Lewis Hamilton should only go to Ferrari if they almost DOUBLE his salary in mammoth offer claims F1 expert

    Seven-time world champion Hamilton is out of contract at the end of the season, sparking rumours he could leave Mercedes.
    Ferrari have been earmarked as his next destination, with the Mail reporting there has been “close contact” between Hamilton and Scuderia president John Elkann.
    Hamilton, 38, reportedly earns a whopping £45million-a-year with the Brackley-based constructor, making him one of the highest-paid drivers on the grid.
    The Mail’s report adds Ferrari and Mercedes have the financial muscle to offer similar packages at around £40m, helped by drivers falling outside of F1’s new budget cap.

    However, Windsor – an award-winning F1 journalist and former manager at both Williams and Ferrari – believes the Brit should only take Ferrari’s offer if the terms are DOUBLED.
    Speaking on a YouTube live stream, he said: “I’ve seen a few numbers bandied around. One was £40m.
    “If I was Lewis Hamilton, I’d be going for a lot more than £40m because you could argue that Lewis, with the Ferrari brand and what he could do for the Ferrari brand, should be thinking in terms of at least £50m just for PR and brand turnaround.
    “And then how much is he worth as a driver, as a pure race driver? You’d have to say £25-30m.

    “£40m? I would say about £80m would be more logical. And if they’re not going to pay that sort of money, I don’t think he should do it.”
    In terms of performance, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have been irrepressible in earning race wins this season, with Verstappen winning four – including the Monaco Grand Prix – and Perez two.
    As a result, race wins have been hard to come by. Though Hamilton has managed to squeeze one podium in so far this season and he is yet to finish below P6.
    However, Mercedes will be hoping their fortunes will change quickly after implementing £1m worth of upgrades.
    Meanwhile, despite strong one-lap pace, Ferrari have also claimed just a single podium spot through Charles Leclerc – who hinted Hamilton was his ideal team-mate.
    Windsor continued: “I think he should stay at Mercedes and look for some long-term deal at Mercedes and continue.
    “Because what you don’t want to do if you’re Lewis Hamilton is leave Mercedes just as they’re going to be competitive because the odds are, having been uncompetitive for so long, that a team that big and that good will eventually find a way.
    “That’s another issue for Lewis, so he may well stay where he is and it could be the money that decides it.

    “If I was managing Lewis and it was £40m, I’d say: ‘Nah, stay where you are.’
    “Ferrari [is a] huge brand for Lewis Hamilton to put his name to. Massive. And that’s [worth] a lot more than a £40m deal in my view.”
    He then added: “If Lewis is going to Ferrari, it’s such a big unknown in terms of how competitive that car would be that, if I was Lewis, I wouldn’t go for less than £80m.
    “I did say £100m to a mate the other day and he said: ‘That’s a bit much, isn’t it?’ I said: ‘OK, let’s bring it down to £80m…’
    “But £40m? You’ve got to be joking. If he does it for £40m, hats off to him because it means he’s just doing it for the love of the sport.
    “I’m not decrying the enormity of £40m, but I’m just saying for that he might as well stay at Mercedes really.”
    The Spanish GP is up next for Hamilton and Co.
    Before Verstappen won last year’s race, Hamilton had won five in a row around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

    F1 star Lewis Hamilton’s vegan burger chain hits staggering valuation after Thibaut Courtois investment

    FORMULA ONE legend Lewis Hamilton has seen the valuation of his vegan burger chain rocket after an investment from Thibaut Courtois. Hamilton in 2019 launched his own meat-free restaurant called Neat Burger and he now has eight locations in London.

    And following their first move into America, the Financial Times say Neat Burger is now valued in excess of $100million (£80m).
    The latest round of financing raised an additional $18 (£14.5m) and Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois was among those to invest.
    Hamilton, 38, went vegan in 2017 and at the time he claimed his fitness levels improved as a result of the diet change.
    The racer – who is also part of the ownership group of the NFL franchise the Denver broncos – is currently fourth in the F1 standings.

    Reigning champion Max Verstappen has already raced to an early lead after just six races gone.
    But Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has thrown his support to Hamilton, who is chasing a record-breaking eighth world title win.
    Wolff told F1 ‘s website: “It’s so difficult because we were in the mix with Aston Martin and with Ferrari I would say.
    “But we really need to be careful, we need to go to Barcelona and collect more data.

    “It’s a new baseline. I don’t expect us to be clearing Aston Martin and Ferrari [there].
    “It is more about understanding what does this car do now, how to set it up and we are really good at grinding away.
    “Even with the old package which wasn’t that great, or was terrible at the start of the season, we managed to win a race in Interlagos [in 2022] in a dominant way. So we’re going to get there.”

    Lewis Hamilton fans slam ‘shameless’ F1 star George Russell for his cheeky request to Mercedes team-mate

    F1 FANS have slammed George Russell after his “shameless” request to Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton during the race.The 25-year-old Brit requested that he could pass team-mate Lewis Hamilton after he incurred a five-second penalty for a dangerous re-entry.

    Russell got into trouble after rainfall from lap 51 onwards caused chaos for a number of drivers.
    The Brit had been on course for a podium finish but saw himself drop down the positions to fifth after running off track at the Mirabeau corner.
    He then compounded his mistake when Red Bull’s Sergio Perez struck his Mercedes’ when he re-entered the track.
    That collision ensured Russell incurred a five second penalty, which was the beginning of the controversy between him and Hamilton.

    With Russell in fifth and Hamilton in fourth, Russell was heard on team radio requesting that he overtake his team-mate so he could better protect his five second lead on Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in sixth.
    Russell did promise, however, that he would not build a lead of over five seconds on Hamilton.
    That meant that Hamilton would technically still have been in fourth position despite his car being behind Russell.
    That didn’t stop fans raging about the request with many saying it reflected that Russell was “not a team player”.

    One fan raged: “George Russell is not a team player. Makes it sound like it’s for the team but it’s purely self-served. Hope Mercedes chuck him next season!”
    Another said: “George Russell is a shameless t*** for asking team orders after bottling the position!”
    While another added: “George Russell, you almost have to respect the audacity to ask if you can get past Lewis to create a gap for your own 5 second time penalty.”
    Russell did not receive permission from Mercedes to complete the manoeuvre.
    He did manage to comfortably hold on to his fifth place finish however, with Leclerc unable to chase down the Englishman.
    Hamilton managed to hold on to fourth with Apline’s Esteban Ocon coming third, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso secured second, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen comfortably holding on to his pole position throughout the race.
    Verstappen’s victory was his latest as part of a fine season, with the Dutchman sitting top of the drivers’ standings on 144 points.
    His team-mate Sergio Perez sits on 104 points in second, with veteran Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso rolling back the years to sit in third.
    Hamilton and Russell’s positions are a carbon copy of where they finished at Monaco, sitting in fourth and fifth respectively. More

    Max Verstappen strolls to Monaco GP win to continue F1 dominance as rain causes chaos and helps Hamilton finish fourth

    NOT even a sudden downpour could stop Max Verstappen’s Monaco masterclass.The Dutchman was simply sublime in the dry during Saturday’s qualifying as he snatched pole right at the death to deny Fernando Alonso.

    And he played it beautifully here on Sunday as he excelled in the dry and kept his nerve in the wet – albeit coming extremely close to barriers on numerous occasions.
    Verstappen now has won four of the opening six races and has amassed a whopping 39-point over his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez.
    It looked all so straightforward until a shower two-thirds into this race threatened to turn it on its head, but the world champion weathered the storm.
    Verstappen, who overtook Sebastian Vettel on to a record 39 race wins for Red Bull, said: “It was a difficult one. The rain was coming and we didn’t know what was going on with the tyres.

    “It started to rain lap by lap a bit more and it was incredibly slippery. You don’t want to push too hard and you don’t want to lose too much time.
    “I hit the barriers a few times, but that’s Monaco. It is super-nice to win it in this way, in the weather and stay super-calm and bring it home.”
    Verstappen made a clean start and managed to remain ahead of Alonso, who came close to hitting the barriers at turn one.
    But his Red Bull team-mate Perez was not having so much fortune, starting dead last.

    The Mexican, who won this race last year to earn a new contract with the team, was caught up in a tangle with fellow backmarkers Nico Hulkenberg, Guanyu Zhou and Lance Stroll.
    Perez was forced to make a pitstop on lap one, dropping him further behind while Hulkenberg was hit with a five-second penalty for causing the mess.
    Carlos Sainz was next to make a mistake as he clattered into the back of Esteban Ocon while running in fourth place.
    The Spaniard locked up and lost part of his front wing after going to the Alpine driver.
    Out in front Verstappen was soon catching the backmarkers as he threaded his way through the congested streets like an on-the-clock food delivery driver.
    He was soon lapping his team-mate, who despite his best efforts was still languishing near the back.
    And so we settled in for the usual procession that sadly this once-thrilling spectacle can become.
    While Saturday’s qualifying session will remain the best of the season – as Verstappen and Alonso traded places with such mesmeric driving – Sunday’s race day has become somewhat tiresome and reliant upon some freak weather or an accident.
    First, the rain clouds moved away as they teased to help shuffle the order, but they did return to the Principality with a vengeance on Lap 52 of 78.
    The rain livened things up as drivers and teams panicked. Verstappen was noticeably agitated over the team’s radio.

    As he tiptoed his way around the wet track on slicks, incredibly Aston Martin called in Alonso and Stroll for new tyres at the end of lap 54 – but they bizarrely opted for new slicks.
    It was a terrible move and resulted in both drivers being forced to make another pit stop a lap later for intermediate tyres to cope with the standing water.
    It was the opposite for Mercedes, who played it smart and put both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on intermediates.
    Meanwhile, Verstappen was still on slicks and was forced to reduce his lap time after coming so close to striking the wall at Portier.
    It made it even more incredible that Aston had bungled their strategy as the Dutchman was a sitting duck – but only had Alonso been on the correct tyre.
    The rain continued to make things tricky while Verstappen eventually made it back to the pits for intermediate tyres.
    Sainz spun, Russell clattered into Perez, earning him a five-second penalty – and Stroll crashed out of the race.

    But Verstappen held his nerve and while Aston’s tyre mistake made it easier, he was able to come home in first place 27 seconds clear of Alonso.
    Ocon made it home in third and Hamilton managed to move up to fourth place ahead of Russell after Ferrari’s tyre strategy dropped Charles Leclerc to sixth.

    Max Verstappen grabs Monaco GP pole ahead as Lewis Hamilton finishes sixth in new Mercedes after horror practice crash

    MAX VERSTAPPEN produced a thrilling final lap to deny Fernando Alonso pole position for the Monaco GP.The Dutchman left it late – and clipped a wall – but clinched P1 by just 0.084sec.

    It spoiled a perfect run from Alonso, who looked to have taken his first pole since 2012.
    Alonso will line up in second on the grid ahead of Charles Leclerc in a pulsating qualifying session.
    Esteban Ocon was fourth and Carlos Sainz fifth while Lewis Hamilton will start in sixth.
    Hamilton had only just scraped into Q2 after getting caught up in traffic and making a mistake at the chicane in Q1.

    He recovered in time while his Mercedes team-mate George Russell will line up in eighth place on the grid.
    However, Sergio Perez was less fortunate and will start last after crashing out during Q1.
    The Mexican, who won this race last year and is second in the championship, lost control at Turn One.
    He slammed hard into the barriers sideways, bringing an early end to his qualifying session.

    They were all smiles as they stepped off a boat together and then strolled towards the paddock.
    Russell wore a white Mercedes T-shirt with white shorts while his glamorous partner Carmen stunned in a strapless white top and a long blue skirt in the Mediterranean sunshine.
    It was a short commute into work for Russell, who moved to the principality over the winter after his first year as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate.
    And he was in a bullish mood on home turf in the wake of the bombshell news that Hamilton is set to sign a new £50million deal with the Silver Arrows.

    In theory, that keeps Russell as the so-called No2 in the team.
    But the King’s Lynn ace does not see it that way, especially after finishing above Hamilton in the drivers’ standings last season and outqualifying the seven-time world champ in four out of five races so far this year.
    Russell told the Daily Mail: “I don’t care at all whether Lewis stays or Lewis goes, because I believe I can beat anyone on the grid.
    “You couldn’t choose to be in a better position than to go up against Lewis.

    “What a way to test myself. While we’re in this position, he is invaluable to me. There can be no excuses on either side. He’s pushing me, I’m pushing him. I am here to beat everybody.
    “I never had any self-doubt and having these 15 months alongside him has reinforced that. My confidence has grown.
    “We have a good relationship and it would be great if we could turn this around and help the team to winning ways.
    “Lewis is very good with people. He’s very caring, he works exceptionally hard. He’s comfortable travelling a lot, doing a lot of activities. It wouldn’t be a lifestyle many athletes want.
    “It may not be this year or next that everything falls into place. But look at Fernando [Alonso], aged 41. So I have at least 15 good years left in me.
    “You have to be patient, keep working, doing your thing, and no doubt my time will come.”
    Russell and Hamilton have continued to be left flagging in an inferior car against the likes of Red Bull and now Aston Martin.
    Their W14 machine has undergone major surgery in recent weeks with £1m spent on new parts alone to try and compete once more.

    But just a day after lauding the efforts of the engineers in the Mercedes factory, Hamilton crashed into the wall during third practice – damaging his front left wheel just hours before qualifying.
    The Monaco GP gets underway tomorrow at 2pm UK time as Russell and Hamilton try and cut away at rival Max Verstappen’s championship lead.

    Lewis Hamilton crashes new Mercedes in Monaco F1 practice just a day after praising £1m overhaul to car

    His Mercedes car was then stuck in the barriers with clear damage to his left front wheel at the Mirabeau corner.
    It’s a nightmare for the Mercedes man who will need to pray mechanics can fix his car before qualifying in just a few hours’ time.
    The job should be more than achievable but it is not ideal preparation for Hamilton, who was looking to set a fast lap in the final practice session.
    He and team-mate George Russell have new upgrades to deal with in this race as Mercedes look to turn their season around.
    The constructors have brought in a tonne of new parts as they look to catch up with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull team.
    The new parts include a new floor, new sidepods, a changed front suspension and a tweaked rear wing.
    The upgrades were suppose to arrive in the last race for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix before flooding in northern Italy saw the race cancelled.
    The signs have been encouraging for Hamilton so far.

    He finished third-fastest in Free Practice 1 before coming sixth-fastest in the second session yesterday.
    His crash today follows similar incidents yesterday for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon of Williams, with both also having been caught out by the tight and twisty nature of F1’s most famous track.
    The unique elements of Monaco’s layout mean fans are expecting an exciting qualifying session.
    Traditional tracks and even other street circuits have been dominated by Red Bull this season but their blistering pace will not be as advantageous at Monaco.
    Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin will all be hoping to upset the championship leaders this weekend. More

    Mercedes unveil Lewis Hamilton’s incredible new car with six upgrades costing £1m to help him challenge Max Verstappen

    LEWIS HAMILTON’S Mercedes team have unveiled the car they hope will allow him to fight Max Verstappen.Since scrapping this year’s design after the first 60-minute practice session in Bahrain, Merc chiefs have shuffled their design team and come up with a whole new package.

    Mercedes have spent £1m on the upgrades
    The radical changes have cost over £1million in parts alone – with the factory operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to get them ready in time.
    Verstappen’s Red Bull team have dominated this season winning all five of the opening races.
    Here, SunSport takes a look at the changes Mercedes have made in the hope of tackling the Dutchman.
    1. Sidepods
    The most obvious design change to Hamilton’s car. Perhaps almost smugly, Merc had thought they had come up with a revolutionary zero-side pod design in 2022.

    They were the only team to do it – and blindly stuck with it for 15 months. Finally, they realised they were chasing a lost cause and reintroduced the bulbous parts of bodywork.
    The extra surface area will increase downforce and the new design meant the team had to redesign the car’s radiators that sit under the bodywork.
    It does mean the car is now slightly heavier by around 500 grams but it means that the new Silver Arrow looks more like their rivals.
    2. Front Suspension
    The second big change is the top of the wishbone suspension has moved inward and upwards.

    The higher suspension has a number of benefits. Firstly, the improved airflow increases downforce but Merc also believe the change will improve the stability of the car under braking.
    That will increase their drivers’ confidence when stamping late on the brake pedal that the car will not skip out of line.
    A final benefit will result in the air running over the suspension into the sidepod and into the radiator to help with cooling.
    3. A New Floor
    In the past, F1 cars have relied on downforce, wind rushing over bodywork to press the car into the ground allowing the drivers to take corners quicker.
    This new generation of cars work in a different way where the primary aerodynamic principle is to suck the car to the ground.
    As a result, the front and rear wings are less intricate, but the underside of the car’s floor has become extremely crucial.
    It means that Merc have redesigned the underside of the car to accommodate the wider bodywork, without causing the return of porpoising – the dreaded bouncing we saw last year.
    4. Engine Cover
    With the redesigned floor and sidepods, the team have also reshaped the engine cover.
    This improves the downforce of air over the top of it, but also helps channel the air into the rear wing for more downforce.
    5. Rear Wing
    With the new volume of air passing over the car, the rear wing has been tweaked accordingly to take the increase.
    Like the other, larger body panels, the larger surface area will help to create more downforce, ultimately allowing the cars to tackle corners faster.

    6. Rear Brakes
    The final big change sees the redevelopment of the brakes. The cylindrical shape – known as a cake tin – has been redesigned to work with the new airflow directions.
