      ‘We are not treated same’ – Red Bull advisor accuses F1 chiefs of not treating Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen even

      RED BULL advisor Helmut Marko has claimed his team are treated differently to Mercedes by FIA stewards following Lewis Hamilton’s win at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.The 36-year-old won his third race in a row to move level on points with his Dutch rival going into Sunday’s final GP of 2021 in Abu Dhabi.

      In a chaotic race in Saudi Arabia, Verstappen was twice told by stewards to give the lead back to the British icon after running Hamilton deep twice at Turn One.
      And the 24-year-old was also slapped with a ten-second penalty following the race after braking into Hamilton on lap 37.
      The incident led Hamilton to brand Verstappen as ‘f****** crazy’ on Mercedes’ team radio.
      Verstappen was even given a five-second penalty during the GP for leaving the track earlier in the race.
      Marko has expressed his frustration that Hamilton was more than ten car lengths behind Verstappen en route to the grid at the first red flag restart.
      The 78-year-old is also of the opinion that the seven-time F1 World Champion forced Verstappen wide at the final corner after he allowed him to re-take the lead.

      Speaking before Verstappen’s ten-second penalty, Marko stated that he ‘did not accept the decisions’.
      He told Autosport: “Our engineers are preparing that we can prove Max was constant with his braking, he didn’t brake test like Hamilton said.
      “Then he crashed into our car, he unfortunately put two cuts in the rear tyre. That was so severe that we couldn’t attack anymore. We had to take speed out.
      “That was the one thing. The next thing was at the second start, Hamilton was more than ten [car] lengths behind.
      “[Sebastian] Vettel got penalised in Budapest when he did it. But with this manoeuvre he [Hamilton] was preparing his tyre better for the start.
      “Then he pushed Max off, no reaction. So we feel we are not treated the same.”
      Verstappen was left furious following the race, as he stormed off the podium having seen Hamilton draw level with him in the championship.
      Hamilton suggested that Verstappen drives over the limit after he narrowly avoided disaster in Jeddah.

      He remarked: “For me I really had to try and keep my cool out there which was really difficult to do.
      “I have raced a lot of drivers through my life in 28 years and I have come across a lot of different characters.
      There’s a few at the top which are over the limit, rules don’t apply or don’t think of the rules.
      “I just try to do my talking on the track and keep the car between the white lines and do it the right way.
      “There were so many crazy curb walls and then he obviously brake tested I think to try and get the DRS into the last corner to overtake me again going into turn one.
      “Does Max fall into that category…He is over the limit for sure. I have avoided collisions on so many occasions with the guy and I don’t know in his mind being the one who does that. But you fight to live another day which I did.” More

      And boy does the racing legend know how to spend it – splashing his cash on the best cars that could earn him the title of ultimate celebrity petrol head.
      The eco-warrior equalled Michael Schumacher’s seven world titles last season and after a thrilling win in Saudi Arabia last night he can claim a record eighth crown this Sunday in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
      But away from the track, Hamilton, 36, has an equally impressive fleet of cars worth around – wait for it – £13MILLION.
      Of course, being a driver, he’s a car fanatic and collects everything from supercars to vintage classics that he divides between two garages – one in Monaco and another in LA.
      He said previously: “I don’t know anything about wine. I don’t know a huge amount about art. But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.
      Amusingly, so they keep their value, when Hamilton doesn’t want to drive them back home – he reportedly has a tow-truck that comes to pick them up from whatever restaurant or club he’s at. Here we take a look at just some of his extravagant collection:

      The rarest motor in Hamilton’s possession is a £1.6m Pagani Zonda that was made entirely for him.
      The exterior and interiors are purple, and at the request of the sports star he opted for a manual gearbox instead of the usual sequential one.
      His reasons? Because he hated getting behind the wheel of it initially.
      “The Zonda is terrible to drive!” he once said.
      “It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst.”

      Believed to be worth around £4m, it’s a rare sight – unless you’ve seen the racer cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway in LA.
      Hamilton was often spied taking his ex-missus Nicole Scherzinger for a spin in this beauty, which would have him standing out from the crowd.

      LAFERRARI
      Every car aficionado worth their weight in salt owns this £1m Ferrari – another collector’s item that rises in value as the years go by.
      Capable of reaching a top speed of 217 mph, the LaFerrari can hit 0-62 mph in just 2.4 seconds, meaning it’s Hamilton’s fastest car he owns.
      Footballers including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Son Heung-min also drive this frighteningly fast motor that must be just like handling a racing car.

      MERCEDES-AMG PROJECT ONE
      Lewis has already got his hands on a Project One, that’s not even supposed to be out till next year.
      He was heavily involved in the production of the plug-in hybrid sports car that’s capable of hitting a top speed of 217mph.
      Only 275 are going to be released at a cost of around £2m.
      Make that 274 now, since Hamilton has one.

      He already owned a SL Black Series, so why not add the SLS, right?
      Hamilton, who clearly has a need for speed, added this supercar to his garage probably because it’s the fastest Mercedes in production.
      Powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces 622bhp – the SLS can reach a top speed of 196 mph.
      It also hits 0-60 in just 3 seconds – making it the ideal car for Hamilton to get his thrills off the track with. For a price tag of £230k, it’s just what you’d expect really.

      MCLAREN P1
      Despite splitting with McLaren’s racing team, Hamilton can’t have felt too aggrieved with his former employers because in 2015 he added a £2m P1 to his extensive list of rides.
      The P1 has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, which is twinned with an electric motor that means the supercar has a total power and torque output of 903 bhp and 980 Nm of torque.
      In real talk that means it’s fast and powerful, can hit a top of 217 mph and 0-60mph in under 2.7 seconds.

      1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500
      The second classic car that’s part of his fleet, fans of the Hollywood movie Gone In 60 Seconds might recognise this motor as looking to similar to one of the Eleanor models from the film.
      Hamilton had his customised by Oklahoma shop Classic Recreations for additional cost.
      At auctions, these can fetch up to £750k, and you can bet Hamilton’s is in tip-top condition. That said, we doubt he’ll ever sell it.
      BEST OF THE REST
      When the Mercedes-Maybach 6 came out in 2016, Hamilton made sure he got his hands on the concept car.
      The 2×2 coupe is completely electric, and can run up to 200 miles before it’ll need recharging.
      Hamilton also has another Mercedes – the Maybach S600, which is a luxurious chauffeur’s car with a partition separating the front seats from the back.
      Both those motors have a combined worth of around £800k.
      And Hamilton doesn’t mind swapping four wheels for two – sometimes taking his £6,500 Honda CRF450RX Motocross Bike around the dirt tracks of California.
      Then there’s also his Maverick X3 dune buggy that would’ve set him back around £20k, that’s also electric in theme with his eco-warrior status.

      The British star won despite CRASHING into the back of Verstappen.
      And the Dutchman twice had to cede a position to the Mercedes driver he had gained illegally.
      However, the most shocking incident occurred when Verstappen was ordered to hand the lead to Hamilton.
      That was due to him holding on to it by forcing the seven-time champion off the track.
      Red Bull were told to hand the lead to Hamilton and Verstappen slowed to do so on the run to the last corner.
      But the Merc driver ran straight into the back of him, causing damage to his front wing – with the drivers both believing the other to be at fault.
      Mercedes chief Wolff watched on furiously before standing up and throwing his headset down in rage, fearing Hamilton’s title comeback was dead in the water.

      Hamilton was then heard saying over the radio: “He just brake tested me!
      “That’s dangerous driving.”
      The incident, which will be investigated by the stewards after the race, could see Verstappen end up in more trouble.
      The race continued with Verstappen still in the lead until he was slapped with a five-second penalty, essentially ending his fight.
      That enabled Hamilton to win, with the two drivers now tied on points heading into the last race of the season.
      Hamilton said afterwards: “That was incredibly tough and I tried to be as tough and sensible as I could out there.
      “I didn’t quite understand why he suddenly hit the brakes quite heavily and then I ran into the back of him. Then he moved on and I didn’t quite understand what was happening.
      “Then I got a message afterwards that he was going to let me pass so it was a bit bemusing.”
      Wolff told Sky Sports: “I don’t think this is done yet. Lewis deserved it, he could’ve been out a few times with a broken wing. That was spectacular, but not good racing.
      “The telemetry shows he [Verstappen] is slowing down, then accelerated, then slowing down again. Lewis did not know [if he was being allowed to move ahead], it’s the wrong sequence of messages.
      “We need to look at the stewards and they look at the telemetry and come to a judgement.
      “It was a degree of frustration and I need to reserve judgement until I’ve seen the race again tomorrow.
      “The driving needs to be assessed and looked at. It is hard, very hard, maybe over the line. We just want to have a clean championship and the best man wins.
      “If it is Max, I’m at peace with that but we need it to be a fair race. Max has more wins so it’s still an advantage.
      “It’s important to have a great, great race at the end of the season, with two fantastic drivers racing each other. It’s going down to the wire and that’s how it should be.” More

      Merc boss Toto Wolff revealed after Hamilton’s convincing win in Qatar the Brit would be using his “spicy” newest engine for this weekend’s inaugural Saudi Arabian GP.
      It has led to plenty of chat in the paddock about cheating and the legality of Hamilton’s Merc, with Red Bull boss Christian Horner considering a protest.
      But the seven-time world champion says the team has nothing to hide after seeking reassurances from his bosses.
      He said: “Toto loves putting those things in. I think he’s teasing the others around us and it is interesting the little duel he is having with Christian.
      “We all have egos and that’s what controls our emotions and it is egos fighting each other there is defence.
      “There is respect, but what is important – I did see someone say something about cheating and that’s the worst claim to ever make.

      “I called James Allison [chief technical officer] and Mike Elliott [technical director] and said I really want to know about these things.
      “They have taken me through details of where we are. We have done all these tests and this is where it is, but I don’t like it when people put that out there.

      This season’s brilliant fight between Hamilton and Verstappen has been matched by a heated battle in the pitlane between Merc and Red Bull.
      And Hamilton says that nothing should be read into his new-found pace other than it being a fresh engine in the back of his Silver Arrow.

      He added: “I don’t think we have exploited any loophole. They [Red Bull] did at the start of the year with their wing and then they changed that rule and now it is much stricter.

      Lewis Hamilton had different spec Mercedes car to Valtteri Bottas during Qatar Grand Prix following engineer tweaks

      VALTTERI BOTTAS has revealed that he had a different spec Mercedes car to team-mate Lewis Hamilton during the Qatar Grand Prix last weekend.The outgoing Finn, 32, endured a dreadful start on the Losail International Circuit.

      And just as he was making his way back up the order he suffered a puncture, eventually having to retire from the race.
      Team-mate Hamilton went on to win the Qatar GP, cutting Max Verstappen’s lead at the top of the Driver Standings to just eight points.
      After the race, Bottas graciously tweeted: “DNF in Qatar Unlucky day for me, but good to see @LewisHamilton win the race. Let’s keep pushing @MercedesAMGF1 !”
      Lifting the lid somewhat on his own woes, however, he told Finnish outlet Ilta Sanomat: “I have found out the reason, but I cannot give details.
      “But my car was no longer quite the same as it was, nor was it the same as Lewis’.
      “There were little differences in the cars.”

      Team chief Toto Wolff gave Bottas a vote of confidence after the race.
      He said: “We know that he can drive away when he’s at the front. So the speed is there.
      “I have absolute confidence in him for the next races and I hope that we will have a good car. Then Valtteri will be at the front again because we need him there.”
      Mercedes lead Red Bull by just five points in the Constructor Standings.
      On Bottas’ role in the battle, Wolff added to Sky Italia: “He’s very unlucky, because his start was very bad, then he recovered, he was P3 on track, and then there was this puncture.
      “If he had finished the race, we would have had a bit of a safety margin for the Constructors’ Championship, now it will be all decided at the end.”

      Ahead of next week’s penultimate GP of the season in Saudi Arabia, Wolff vowed to unleash his team’s ‘spicy engine’.
      He said: “Saudi should be a good track for us but we know this year when you think it’s a good one it can turn the other way around, but it’s a long straight.
      “We’ll get our spicy engine out for Saudi Arabia that we didn’t use [in Qatar].”

      TOTO WOLFF is banking on Lewis Hamilton’s ‘spicy’ Mercedes engine to heat things up at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix as the F1 championship battle intensifies.Hamilton’s FIFTH engine replacement this season helped him cruise to victory in Brazil last week.

      And although it wasn’t used in Qatar yesterday, Hamilton still managed to steal the win, cutting rival Max Verstappen’s lead to just eight points with two races to go.
      The title race could now go down to the wire and Wolff made it clear that Mercedes will unleash their engine beast in Saudi again to ensure Hamilton clinches victory.
      The Mercedes supremo is also hoping Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas can capitalise off of the mean machinery to help pile the pressure on Verstappen and his Red Bull team ahead of the final race in Abu Dhabi.
      Speaking after the seven-time world champion’s heroics in Qatar, an amped-up Wolff declared to Sky F1, reported by Planet F1: “Saudi should be a good track for us, but we know this year when you think it’s a good one it can turn the other way around.
      “But it’s a long straight, we’ll get our spicy equipment (engine) out for Saudi Arabia that we didn’t use (in Qatar) and hopefully Valtteri (Bottas) is right up there – we need him.
      “But in any case, if everyone finishes the race it will go to Abu Dhabi.”

      Mercedes’ new kit is so impressive that Wolff reckons it’s the best engine they’ve had all season.
      When asked if Mercedes’ new engine was their best yet, Wolf added: “Yes, definitely. I think the car is quick on the straight and good around the corners.
      “Degradation works fine – even at races in the Middle East and we have two to come of these – on old tyres.
      “I think we have to push maximum attack. We have to catch up, make some points up and that’s just what we are going to do.”
      Despite Hamilton winning in Qatar without his new fancy engine kit, he was given a huge boost before the race as Verstappen was slapped with a FIVE-place grid penalty for ignoring double yellow warning flags.
      However, the Dutch driver still managed to battle back to second after starting in seventh and he also earned an extra point with the fastest lap.
