LEWIS HAMILTON is set to break his silence on his F1 return and controversial world title loss this Friday.The British superstar was the subject of retirement rumours throughout the last two months, as he took a break from the public spotlight.

But after confirming that he’s returning to Mercedes for another season, Hamilton will speak this Friday as his team unveil their new car.
He’ll join Silver Arrows principal Toto Wolff and new team-mate George Russell on a live stream beamed across the world.
The trio will chat as part of the broadcast, which will also give an exclusive first look at the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance that will take to the grid next month.
F1 fans’ excitement is building ahead of the new season, with a number of teams having already revealed their new cars.
The first pre-season testing will take place in Barcelona next week, although won’t feature live, race-style coverage.
Official testing, with live TV access and fans present, will then go ahead in Bahrain between March 10-12, with the first Grand Prix of the season set to take place in the same location a week later.

Mercedes were left furious by Michael Masi’s decision to let the cars between Max Verstappen and Hamilton unlap themselves behind the safety car at the end of the now-infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.
The last minute changing of the rules cost Hamilton the world title, and led to calls for Masi’s job from fans.
FIA chiefs this week delayed the publishing of a report into Masi’s blunder, but have hinted that he WILL be allowed to stay on as race director.

Meanwhile in F1, trouble may be afoot for Mercedes’ main title rivals Red Bull ahead of the new season.
Team adviser Helmut Marko admitted: “We faced two or three big hurdles. It was the biggest change in regulations in the last 15 or 20 years.
“All the new designs and planning had to be done within the budget cap. And then we were fighting for a World Championship and had to move the new car forward at the same time.”

That’s despite having the chance to switch to No1 on six different occasions.
The reigning champion from the previous season is reserved No1 – should they choose to take it.
But Hamilton has never done so, instead always sticking with the, perhaps unusual, choice of No44.
Although there is a very personal reason as to why he dons that number year in, year out.
He revealed to PETRONAS Motorsports: “When I started racing when I was eight, the number plate on my dad’s car – he had this red Cavalier – was F44.
“So he used 44 – it was his idea. And then it became the family lucky number.”

He is so attached to the number Mercedes quashed rumours of Hamilton from F1 by tweeting: “No44 is back.”
Talk had been rife that the Brit was mulling retirement following the dramatic finale to the 2021 season, where he lost out on a record eighth title to Max Verstappen in hugely controversial circumstances.
Now he is set to be behind the wheel for Mercedes when the F1 2022 calendar gets underway in Bahrain on March 20.
But Hamilton is not the only F1 driver with personal reasons for their choice of numbers.
Verstappen is set to race with No1 this season, but was No33 in the past because his favourite number is three, according to Sportscasting.
Although when the No3 was taken upon his entry to F1 Verstappen simply chose to add another to make No33.
Elsewhere Sebastien Vettel opts for the No5 because it’s the same number he had during a successful go-karting season in 2001.
And Lance Stroll races with No18 because it was the number he had when he won the F3 and F4 titles. More

The two team principals arrived at the sport’s HQ in Piccadilly.
Wolff had a stern look on his face that suggested the season finale still leaves a very sour taste for him and his driver Lewis Hamilton.
F1 teams will be brought up to speed on the FIA’s investigation into under-fire race director Michael Masi.
Masi ignored safety car rules resulting in Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen winning the final race of the season and the title.
The result meant Hamilton was pipped to a record-breaking eighth world drivers’ title on the final lap in the United Arab Emirates.
One solution is sacking Masi, but there is a growing feeling that he will be saved and offered a deputy to help with the decision-making and act as a buffer between Race Control and the pitwall.
The FIA will also try to appease teams who questioned their inconsistent decision-making and application of the rules last term.

NEW Mercedes driver George Russell has put their Formula One rivals on high alert after stating their new car needs a ‘huge amount of improvement’.The 23-year-old has hinted that the Silver Arrows’ dominance in F1 is under threat when giving his assessment of the new ‘W13’ vehicle.

Mercedes have won the last eight Constructors’ Championships, despite his team-mate Lewis Hamilton being pipped to last season’s title by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Speaking ahead of their car launch next week, Russell didn’t give a glowing evaluation of the vehicle.
The former Williams ace told Mercedes’ YouTube channel: “First impressions of W13 have been interesting. 
“It’s a very different car to the previous era – and the characteristics of how the downforce is completely different so we’re still learning as we are going.”
Before adding: “There’s still a huge amount of improvement to be made to bring everything together and make it as nice as possible to drive.
“I foresee a lot of people being in the same boat.
“We’re just learning so much day after day, whether it be in the winter or in the simulator and I think it’s going to be a year of development.
“I think everyone wants to go into the first race and have the fastest car possible.

Hamilton was pipped to the championship by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The British legend was leading by ten seconds going into lap 54, only to have victory cruelly snatched away after the deployment of a safety car.
And with fresher tyres having pitted, Verstappen overtook his rival after stewards decided to allow lapped cars to overtake.
FIA director Michael Masi had initially indicated lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstappen would stay in their formation, only to change his mind, resulting in the Brit claiming that the race ‘has been manipulated’.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff then declared that Hamilton had been left ‘disillusioned’ with the sport – fuelling speculation his time in F1 was over.
But Hamilton announced he’s ‘back’ last week as he broke his social media silence in a huge hint he is ready for another challenge.

And now his future has been all-but guaranteed in a news release by the Silver Arrows previewing their car launch event.

But a customised Tesla Roadster he drove to Nations Cup glory with Sebastian Vettel in the same year, 2010, roared up to £116,700.
Schumacher, 53, has largely been cared for at home since suffering a life-changing brain injury in a 2013 ski crash.
Few details of his condition have emerged since, although it’s understood the German has had stem cell treatment in an attempt to regenerate his nervous system.
But Schumacher’s place as one of motorsport’s all-time greats is assured.
His former estate car was a prize exhibit at Bonhams’ Les Grandes Marques du Monde [‘The World’s Leading Brands’] auction in Paris.
Instead, though, it only made the typical price for a model of that age and mileage owned by you or I.

Schuey kept it for six months and most of its mileage was done by its second owner, a Swiss man, from 2011-2015.
A Mercedes engineer then bought it, changing the wheels but barely clocked up 1,000 kilometres in three years.
And its last owner, from 2018 until January this year, only drove it in summer.
That took the mileage from a 457-horsepower, 6.2-litre V8 engine up to 94,450miles.
SCHUEY TESLA SPARKS INTEREST
Now it’s up to the unnamed auction winner to see if the small piece of history gets the same careful treatment.
In contrast, a Tesla Roadster sparked huge interest at the auction as it eventually sold for £116k.
Schumacher and Vettel raced in the electric speedster at the 2010 Race of Champions.
Current models of the car can reach 60mph in 1.9secs.
And this particular one was adapted for the event 12 years ago, with a roll bar and carbon racing seats added.

However, his work at the factory sends the strongest signal yet that he intends to return to fight for a record eighth world title.
Hamilton, who shared a clip of him running yesterday, was leading by ten seconds going into lap 54 in last season’s finale, only to have victory cruelly snatched away after the deployment of a safety car.
