Lawrence Okolie plans to own a McDonald’s restaurant after being inspired to box while working tills at fast food chain

BOXING champion Lawrence Okolie plans to go from working the tills at McDonald’s to owning his own restaurant.Okolie was 17 when he was inspired into boxing while watching Anthony Joshua win gold at the London Olympics all while on shift at the fast food chain.

The boxer wants to go from working the tills at McDonald’s to owning his own store
Now, he is managed and mentored by AJ and has a WBO world title to his name – but wants to go back to where his journey all started, as the boss.
Okolie has partnered with his former employers McDonald’s, who have launched a new Plan for Change campaign.
And he dreams of capping off a remarkable return to the multi-billion dollar company by becoming a franchise owner, all while continuing his boxing career.
Okolie, 28, told SunSport: “It’s a very, very serious ambition of mine.
“For me, it’s full circle. At the start, McDonald’s gave me an opportunity, gave me a job, which was my first legitimate income coming in.
“It was the same with my younger brother, at the time that was massive for our family as money was coming in.

“It wasn’t like we were in absolute poverty, but our little bit helped, my mum didn’t need to stress as much, to get us other little bits and bobs, we could afford those.
“To be able to now go back into the company in an ownership way, it shows progression.
“I went from working the tills to owning a whole McDonald’s, I can only see positives really.”
McDonald’s new campaign will see youth workers and services connected to every restaurant in every community by 2024, offer 3,000 apprenticeships by 2025 plus help one million people gain new skills and open doors to jobs by 2030.
Okolie visited the London Victoria store where he once flipped burgers and salted chips before dusting off his old apron.
And it was there he interacted with staff members to share his story and remember where he came from.

Okolie said: “There’s a lot of time we see people go on and achieve good to great things and then they’re not around anymore.
“They’re not reachable, they’re distant but when you’re there to talk to and say, ‘What did you do? How did you do it?’
“It makes you more of a reference for them.”
Okolie is a proud vegan athlete but is still able to enjoy some classic McDonald’s fries as part of his plant-based diet when out of training camp.
    ‘CHEEKY LITTLE MACCIES’
He joked: “I’m on a meal prep when I’m training but when that’s finished, I’ll go and have a cheeky little Maccies, you can’t say no, can you?
“There’s a vegetarian burger coming out soon, so I can’t wait to try that one.”
Okolie won his world title with a sixth-round knockout of Poland’s Krzysztof Glowacki, 35, in March.
He then defended it for the first time last month against challenger Dilan Prasovic, 26, who was taken out in three rounds.
Now Okolie, a 2016 Olympian with a current unbeaten record of 17-0 with 14 knockouts, has unification bouts in his sights.

Ex-Man Utd star Anderson could have been best in world if it wasn’t for his love of McDonald’s, says Rafael

ANDERSON could have been the world’s best player if it wasn’t for his love of McDonald’s.That is according to his old Manchester United team-mate Rafael.

But the midfielder’s love for fast food held him back, according to RafaelCredit: Eamonn and James Clarke
Anderson, 33, retired last year aged 32 after a spell with Turkish side Adama Demispor.
He spent eight seasons at Old Trafford and won the Premier League four times within that period.
But the Brazilian struggled with his weight and physique throughout his career.
And Istanbul Basaksehir star Rafael says it was his love for fast food that contributed to his troubles.
In his new joint autobiography with twin brother Fabio, ex-United full-back Rafael said: “We could be on the team coach and pass the services on the motorway and Anderson would jump up impulsively and yell ‘McDonald’s, McDonald’s’.
“The guy was crazy, but I love him.
“Give him a football and he would just play with freedom and sometimes, if he got a good run of games, he could play as well as any player in the league.
“Not only that, but when he was playing well, we were playing brilliant football. He picked up a lot of big injuries and then his problems with eating the way he did started to affect him.

“It was no coincidence that his best form came when he had a lot of games because that was when he couldn’t eat so much.
“I will say something about Anderson – if he had been a professional football player, he could have been the best in the world.
“I’m saying this was all seriousness. I don’t know if he ever took anything seriously. He just loved life in such an easy and casual way.
“In some ways that was a quality. It was what made him so popular and one of the most popular players at the club.
“But he would just eat whatever was put in front of him.”
Anderson played 181 times for United after being signed from Gremio.
The 2008 Golden Boy winner had a loan spell with Fiorentina before moving back to Brazil when he signed for Internacional.

Every year, the fast-food chain put on the event for the Ronald McDonald House Association charity.
Last year, former Premier League star Carlos Tevez donated 1,000 burgers to the cause in his native Argentina.
And in 2020, Suarez got his teeth into the charity bash all the way from Madrid.
Despite not being in his native Uruguay, Suarez was able to order £4,300-worth of burgers through the McDelivery app.

The ex-Liverpool and Barcelona star bought 1,000 Big Macs at £4.30 each to contribute.
The proceeds went to the children of a youth football league in Pando – a city 20 miles from Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.
The Ronald McDonald House Association helps over 7,000 needy families each year in Uruguay alone.
The charity provides food and accommodation, while also giving support to pregnant women and those in need of medical treatment

After the new Atletico Madrid hero’s monster donation, McDonald’s Uruguay tweeted: “Luis Suarez proved that the Big Day has no frontiers.

Suarez’s generous donation was confirmed by McDonald’s Uruguay

“He bought 1,000 Big Macs from Spain via McDelivery to help the House Ronald, Liceo Impulso and donate to Pando’s BabyLeague.
“Thank you, Luis, for putting the jersey on the Big Day! Anyone can join in wherever you are.”
Another local hero, ex-Inter Milan star Alvaro Recoba, took part in the event.
