CHELSEA swept Newcastle aside after the Premier League returned following an international break.
Federico Fernandez’s unfortunate own goal put the Blues ahead after just 10 minutes before Tammy Abraham doubled the visitors’ lead just after the hour mark.
FINAL SCORE: Newcastle 0-2 Chelsea (Fernandez OG 10, Abraham 65)
THAT’S ALL FOLKS
I don’t think Chelsea will have a easier game all season. They were in complete control from minute one.
It was an own goal from Fernandez which put Chelsea in an early 10 minute lead after he poked home a cross fizzed into the box from the right hand side.
The Blues would continue their dominance clocking up around 80% possession but the only thing missing was the second goal.
Newcastle did come out in the second half with a bit more purpose but if it wasn’t for a mixture of excellent saves and squandered opportunities, Chelsea would of been out of sight.
Karl Darlow was eventually beaten by a caressed ball into the bottom corner by Tammy Abraham after a Timo Werner mazy run.
The Magpies did come close with a long range effort from Longstaff which came crashing off the bar but nothing more than that.
Chelsea now sit at the summit of the table only ahead of Leicester on goal difference, however, City travel to Liverpool in tomorrow’s mouth watering tie.
Thank you SunSport family for tuning in this afternoon.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
BLUES GO TOP
BRUCE’S THOUGHTS
“We got off to an awful start. To concede after 10 minutes makes it even more difficult than it already is.”
“First half in particular, maybe we were a bit too passive. Second half was much better but obviously you then open yourself up a bit and you chase the game higher up the pitch and unfortunately they pick you off.”
“The best spell in the game is where we unfortunately conceded the second one.”
“In terms of possession, they had possession and they had another big chance but we had one or two opportunities but didn’t quite take them.”
“They’re a very, very good side and as I said, when you go higher up the pitch against them, they can expose you at the other end.”
“It was a difficult afternoon and at the end of the day, Chelsea are a very, very good team.”
JOE COLE’S THOUGHTS
Former Chelsea team-mate Joe Cole giving the Chelsea boss the praise he deserves.

“The biggest credit you can pay Frank, you can see his personality on the team.”

LAMPARD’S THOUGHTS
“We played well. It’s not an easy game coming here against a very organised team and it was great to get the early goal because it changes the whole aspects of it.”
“The second one was then so important and obviously we had chances to get that earlier and even after that we could of maybe scored again but you know, we can’t have it all our own way.”
“I thought the first 20 minutes we were great because we had control and we had penetration. We had people running in behind, we were getting to the side and making crosses but I think that sort of danger or control becomes comfort which is dangerous.”
” I understand the players can sometimes become comfortable but that is lessons where we can get better.”
“You need to stay humble when you go top and know that it’s a long race.”
ON THE MEND
No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets this season than Mendy.
Incredible signing for Chelsea.
MOTM ABRAHAM’S THOUGHTS
“Fantastic result, we dug deep. Coming here is never a easy place to come and get three points but we did that today. It was 1-0 for a very long time. “
“They created a few chances and so did we but we defended well and got the second goal.”
“We didn’t let the international break distract us. We had to come out all guns blazing and that’s what we did today and like I said, it was a massive three points.”
“Them games are tricky, always tricky. When you’re 1-0 up and you can’t get that second goal and they’ve created a few chances, it’s very easy to drop your head and lose confidence but we didn’t do that.”
“We knew we’re quick on counter attacks so I got myself forward and I was tired but I had to stay in control and pass it through the keeper which it what I done and killed the game off thankfully.”
WONDERFUL WERNER
I know I said it earlier, but what an assist!

That just sums up how they have been performing so far.
Lack of belief.
NEWCASTLE 0-2 CHELSEA
82. Chelsea looking for that third.
Good build up play from the Blues but a deflected cross goes out for a corner which Mount strolls over to take.
No need to rush of course.

71. OFF THE BAR!
The corner was taken quickly and made it’s way to Longstaff who went for a long range screamer but luckily for Mendy, it came off the bar.
That would of been a cracker of a goal.
