Now in their last-16 tie, the world champions will be looking to start stepping their performances up a notch against a Swiss side that were bashed 3-0 by Italy in the group stages.

Left back Lucas Hernandez remains a doubt with a knee problem after hobbling off during the Portugal draw.

Everton’s Lucas Digne came on to replace Hernandez, but pulled his hamstring within moments of coming on in the final group stage game.

Thomas Lemar and Ousmane Dembele have also left the France squad looking threadbare, with the latter ruled out of the tournament needing to undergo surgery on his knee.
